My Homelessness Perspective

I debated making this post for awhile because I normally just comment in replies to other things. But someone came across an old post and thought I should share directly, particularly given the influx of homeless discussion.

I'm a homeless person in the area. I lived on paid campgrounds in the region when the weather was nicer and now when I have the cash, I stay in motels. So I'm not someone on the lawn, chopping up bikes (I actually sold mine for $50 to pay for another room night) I'm a nobody and you've probably stood in line next to me and had no idea I was homeless because I do everything in my power to keep it together. But I cry a lot and the longer this goes on, the more difficult it is to climb out of because literally everything in society is working against you and I don't think many people realize the logistics of how difficult homelessness can be.

I lost my job literally the week after the NBA shut down. For what it's worth, my former boss got a six figure PPP loan (i

Making Crafting Profitable Part 3

In part 3 we will cover:

  • I provided a typo in the auction house list fees. I apologize, and will provide the correct version
  • why the Default Material Cost Method does not use dbminbuyout and neither should you
  • a very short-term "fix" buying materials and crafting right away that shouldn't be used long-term
  • the difference between smartavgbuy and avgbuy
  • the Sources list in the Gathering tab of the crafting UI
  • using a custom price source to make auctioning simpler when we get to that point

I will explain things relating to part 3 herein, but if something is not covered, check part 1 and part 2. In fact, if you haven't read parts 1 and 2, then part 3 isn't going to be totally useful.

The listing fees typo

When auctioning an item, merely listing it incurs fees, which

If you see Blackhawks over your neighborhood...leave

My hope is that if you are reading this right now you will take heed of my warnings and leave where you are.

The reason for chronicling the events that had taken place over the past several weeks is to serve as a warning to other communities. Sure some people will read these events and wonder if this is a hoax or if you are posting this how are you protecting yourself.

Let me answer the last question first.

Anonymity.

This is the way of protecting myself as this post is being sent from a dual layered VPN. However if any three letter agency wanted to find me they would be able to do so. Another point in my favor is that the places described in this post are kept vague. Does this take place in the United States? Possibly. However, it could take place in a variety of places around the world. As for being a hoax honestly, why would someone spend all that time to make up something as convoluted as this? Believe me H.G. Wells himself would be proud if this was all for just a hoax.

Meat Beneath the Skin

I’m trapped. Maybe I shouldn’t bother you, maybe I kind of deserve my fate, but if someone doesn’t send help soon, roll the credits, β€˜cause I’m finished.

Let’s start from the beginning. My name is Kyle, and I’m in the eighth grade. We had just moved into this stuck-up little town and this cruddy old house because my grandmother died and Dad wanted to fix it up before selling it.

Me and Dad were in the attic sorting boxes when the side of one split open and comic books spilled out.

β€œLook at these!” my father said. β€œMust’ve been my old man’s!”

We took a break to pour over the faded Batmans and Dick Tracies. Flipping through a Superman, I stopped on a weird ad. β€œSea Monkeys”, it said, only the β€œmonkeys” was crossed out and replaced by the word β€œmonsters”.

A bowl full of terror and mischief, the ad announced, scare your friends, scare your parents, scare yourself! Just add water and watch the little devils grow.

My First 4-Color Print: A Memoir

Hey! After lurking this community for many months, I made my first 4-color print a few weeks after making my first 1-color print. I got a cheap press, tinkered with it endlessly and wasted days upon days making dumb mistakes that I came here to troubleshoot. Rather than remain in the shadows forever, I wanted to post this story somewhere to have a record of it; where people could understand my struggles navigating this learning curve. (Video at bottom of post)

This story takes place in the shed in my backyard.

Before I had the 4-color press, I made one shirt successfully with those metal clamps that come in DIY Kits. A lot of eyeballing and several hours later I somehow did a passable enough job aligning 5 screens (4 on the back + one chest) on this "1-color press."

SO, I took some pictures and put it up for sale...this was the moment I entered the abyss.

I have a small podcast and this is our first hand-printed, hand-dyed piece of merch. It was designed by our friend Hann

An Overview of the History of Russian and Eastern Bloc Animation

Before the Covid-19 outbreak me and another guy were working on a one off podcast on the history of Eastern Bloc animation. The purpose was to trace the development of animation in Russia and the Eastern Bloc from it’s probable roots in old Imperial Russia through the USSR, noting how developments in the medium illustrated (haha) developments in the broader Soviet system.

The project fell through, and I kind of forgot about it until I came across the script I had put together for it in my mailbox this morning. Since I figured it would probably go to waste otherwise, I decided to rework it into a long form article to share here. Hope you enjoy.

Ladislas Starevich and the Beginning of Russian Stop Motion Animation

The beginning of Russian animation can be dated to 1910. That was the year the 27 year old Director of the Museum of Natural History in Kaunus, Ladislas Starevich, decided to produce a short film documenting two stag beetles fighting. He had produced 4 su

How my dorm became a drug superhighway.

The year was 2012, and we were all supposed to die in December. It was my freshman year of college. I was settling in quite well. I made friends with a bunch of people in our residence hall, we hit it off immediately. We started going out on the weekends, starting with thirsty Thursday, which turns out is actually a thing. I had more than one room mate. We lived in a four person suite with two bedrooms. I had a full ride to my University, so I had a lot of extra money to spend on my living arrangements and meal plan. Oh yeah, I was also a huge pothead.

I made friends with the dealer on my floor and started buying him extra meals in exchange for weed. That's when one of my room mates came to me with a proposition. He asked me if I knew what bitcoins were. I did not. He explained the virtual currency and how it worked. Then he really laid it all out. He told me that he had quite a lot of bitcoins and that he wants to get into selling weed. It all sounded great, but I wasn't sure what he

Breaking Lease

Got ourselves into a situation. We saw a cheap space for rent in our little downtown area, when we looked at the space it had another tenant in it with stuff everywhere, and the exposed insulation areas where covered up and or not noticeable at the time. Also with it being a pandemic, we had masks on. The space also has no HVAC. 3 weeks later, we get the keys, bring cleaning supplies and go in without masks. Within 20-30 minutes, our eyes are burning, throats itching and lungs hurt. We think heck we got the covid, lets come back tomorrow. After we leave we feel fine. We called the landlord that night L/M saying we need to talk about the space. Day 2 we go back and same thing happens again, now we are looking closely, lots of big gapping areas with old exposed insulation, and new bits. Its a strange industrial space and we look above the loft area and its tons of loose insulation that overlooks the whole space, also peeling paint and moldy back wall up above. Dear customers

I am posting this because I read another persons response on another post and I feel as a driver I must agree and share. But in my own words...

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE SURE YOU HAVE VISIBLE HOUSE NUMBERS. Especially now with the holidays almost upon us. Make sure there are no plants covering them or that they aren’t the same color as the house. On both sides of mail box. Reflective if on mailbox. Etc etc. on a post outside by the entrance if your house is far in. Hell spray paint it on your trash cans. So many homes have no visible house numbers and that makes it hard to deliver. Not only that but for safety as well. Emergency personnel need to see house numbers also. Our gps SUCKS! Trust me. It helps everyone out and it’s a cheap fix. Tell your friends and neighbors. I guarantee less complaints about lost packages with this one simple solution.

Don't follow instructions from strangers.

I moved into my new apartment a few months ago. It was a three bedroom house that I shared with two other graduate students. I had been so excited to move on my own and start a new life. No more dorm rooms, strict rules, terrible food, or Exes. I was on my own. Granted I had my two roommates, but we all kept to ourselves apart from the occasional shared dinners. It was the first place I felt independent, and that felt good.

The house was on a small road which looped to Main Street five minutes from my university. It was just far enough away to avoid the frat houses that always seemed to cause trouble, perfect for three studious graduate students. The house was small with the entry to the living room and a hallway to the rights, leading to the three bedrooms.

My bedroom was the only room on the front side of the house. I had a window which viewed the front yard and driveway. I often sat at my desk below the window and would lose concentration watching the neighbors pass by. It was a

Review: The Soul of Adventure: Islands of the Meencan Seas

I stumbled over this book written by Robert Bird while browsing for odd RPG's to try out. I liked the cover and considered buying it, but I couldn't find any reviews at all. I asked Reddit with no results, so I decided to buy it anyway because I liked the cover and my curiosity got the better of me. Also, it's quite cheap.

After a long wait, the book finally arrived in my mailbox and I was eager to check it out. I spent a good 2-3 hours giving it a brief readthrough while trying to catch the major points of it.

On the back of the cover, the book promises adventures with villains, wild animals, ruins of old, steamcars, and more. It's safe to say that this 258 page book delivers on all these points. But to what extent?

First off, it features a unique (as far as I know) playing card system, where each player has their o

[Feedback] My opinion on SD2

My opinions on SD2

[Disclaimer: didn't mean to sound rude, goal is constructive criticism]

General Opinion - Too similar to the first game; Feels like the same game; No really exciting new mechanics; Lacks content, still feels like an alpha after all this time. First game was good, and this one is good just because it's similar to the first one. But it just feels like playing the first one again, with a few additions and a bunch of removals. In my personal opinion, the game strongly lacks upgrades (upgrade price jumps from 1m to 500m, there should have been a dozen of upgrades/unlocks inbetween. On a side note, tap select costing 500m is ridiculous too). Particularly, I think the game also lacks more early game rare items, a bit. Don't get me wrong, the game has a few cool new things, I just hope for more in the future.

QoL lacks - I expected the game to have way more QoL improvements over the first game than it actually does, since we had plenty(?) of time to think abou

Package Shenanigans - LONG!

To preface this story, please know that I'm not against the government-run package and mail delivery service that we currently enjoy in any way. There are good and bad people in every situation, the following story unfortunately illustrates some of the bad ones.

As some readers may remember, I've had some bad luck with package delivery where I live. It's very rural, I have a crazy neighbor, a mile-long driveway and no mailbox at my residence. I had tried their suggestion with the red-white-blue delivery service but that didn't work.

So, I tried a method wherein my box number is added to the end of the governmental delivery service's name and address and the package is sent "general delivery" c/o me at box # in their facility in our small town.

I then informed them that week that it would be coming their way soon. I did it with a cheap item so if something went wrong, I wouldn't be

*Authors's Note: So nearly a week ago I challenged myself to write something every single day. I did this for a few reasons, first to keep me writing and hopefully help me improve my writing skills, second was to force me to explore avenues of writing that I might ignore if I took a more relaxed approach, and third I just wanted to face the challenge. As far as the first goes I have definitely seen improvement already, though part of that is definitely from finding a great discord community for writers that was willing to help. The second has already happened as well, on day four I ended up writing a pair of very emotional pieces that might qualify as poetry. Now then about what I'm sharing here today, it was originally part of my daily writing challenge for day 3, this version has been edited and also had an extra passage added in the middle. I'm Dorming In An Old House, I Think Something Lives Here With Us

I’ve always been afraid of my past coming to get me. Now, I’m afraid something else might get me first. Something worse. I just had to tell this story somewhere.

Living in off campus housing wasn’t my first choice, especially not in a house that made the trailer I had grown up in look like the Four Seasons.

Listen, a full ride to Trinity College was such a gift (and I’m not complaining!!) but what they don’t tell you is room and board is not covered in a full β€œtuition” scholarship, and it’s basically the price of another semester; plus, money was especially tight after my mom...well, I guess that’s besides the point right now.

It was coming down to the wire when I found a craigslist ad for a (CHEAP) room in a house that was split up into 3 apartment units. Apparently that’s a thing in New England, to take an old, crumbling house that should otherwise be torn down, and split it up by floor into apartments so you can continue charging college kids an arm and a leg. This house was pr

OFM – Don’t mess with a licensed blaster’s daughter.

That reminds me of a story.

One that’s been going on in the background for a couple of months that just seemingly has come to a conclusion.

It all started when Es sent our youngest a birthday package. I had been able to send home, via the Diplomatic Pouch, a couple of really cool and exceedingly rare Best Korea propaganda posters. True, they were folded, but a little time with a steam iron and they’d be right as the mail; as they were printed on fabric.

Esme used on old South American River System box to send her the gifts. Besides the posters, there were other odds and bods for the celebration of her natal anniversary. There were a couple of books; yes, she actually reads books in this day and age. Amazing. Also, there were several gift cards for local vendors and other bits and pieces of birthday cheer.

Luckily, we wired her birthday dosh directly.

Alas, she never took possession of her birthday box.

Plan that will *finally* circumvent online & TV censorship. Twitter killed my account so I couldn't share this on their platform.

PROBLEM: The multi-billion dollar Corporate Media Complex

β€’ Right-wing radio

β€’ So-called liberal news media including MSNBC, CNN, etc.

β€’ Right-wing news including FOX News, OAN, etc.

β€’ Social media platforms and search that censor progressive outreach to the mainstream. If anyone doubts this, open up a fresh VM on a VPN and browse online as if you're a typical American. Watch what YouTube presents to you from searches. It'll be corporatist narratives at best and right-wing propaganda at worst. Same goes for Twitter, Google search, Reddit, Google news aggregator, YouTube on Smart TVs, Facebook and on & on.

Yesterday, March 31st, marks the day both my girlfriend and me were able to buy our longboi. With all the similar posts popping up here on this subreddit, I thought it might make for a nice change of pace to talk a bit about how we did it. Beware: long post ahead.

Back in November, around the time the longboi removal come Shadowlands was announced, we were nowhere near it by our standards. She was sitting on ~600k, while I was hovering around 1M. Like many others who read the announcement at the time, I panicked. I had a modest collection of things on the AH; nothing current, mostly leftovers from levelling professions across 7 toons, so I had all of them levelled to the max, except for BFA. These things, while they were selling from time to time (and made up for a good chunk of that million I had), would get me nowhere near the goal by the time Shadowlands released. That was really dark. Dark thoughts creep into my head a lot. I want to bang my head on a wall and shake all the dark thoughts out. Murder House (part 1)

Having served in the military, there have been plenty of times when I’ve felt scared. There’s only been a handful of times in my life, however, where I felt truly scared, and it didn’t happen overseas, in war. It happened right here in my sleepy town.

I’m sixty-four years old now. Some nights, when I forget to self-medicate, I relive this fear, this thing, in my dreams- my nightmares. I’ve only ever talked about this with therapists over the years; and even then I’ve only shared enough with them to get the meds I need to sleep. I can always tell when they stop believing me. It must be so much easier not to believe. I wish I could choose to β€œnot” believe.

I was in the military for longer than I care to remember, but there was never any doubt in my mind I would end up back here, in this town, once I was ready to retire. Peak is Here and its time again where the most crazy of shipping seasons begins. There will be hundreds of people coming here for help trying to get information on their packages. Mods, if you would be so kind to sticky this, I think we'd all appreciate that.

2019 Update

>DRO has been rolled out in at least a few terminals (I do not know the number). This is a brand new system. It is having a lot of issues right now (as of the 2nd week of November) ... so ... Peak may be very interesting in large markets.

The Elmwood Experiment (Part 1)

P******ublished by Chantwood Magazine

Part 1 | Part 2

β€œDerickβ€”Hey! DERRICK! Pay attention! One pepperoni pie! 322 Bryan Drive!”

I cringed at the high, whiney voice piercing the commotion of the bustling kitchen. Dom, the short and rotund bane of my existence, was regrettably my boss. He furrowed his greasy, sweaty brow and gave me that look again. That look that says β€œget there fast this time or you’re done.” Dom slid the pizza box across the stainless steel countertop. It made it halfway and stopped short, forcing me to walk toward him to retrieve it. He did that sort of thing on purpose. He needed to remind the kids who was in charge.

Dominick Vandelini was a bit of an eccentric in the forgettable town of Elmwood. He loved zombie movies. Actually, I suppose β€œloved” is an understatement. Dom was obsessed. Movies, books, TV shows, clothing, toys… you name it. It wasn’t normal. If

[Review] Yeezy 350 v2 Desert Sage - LJR

cover photo

INTRODUCTION

What's good Repfam? It's your QC god back again with another review and this time it's for a colorway i've reviewed recently but this one is from a different batch. What's interesting is that this is the first time I will be reviewing a Yeezy 350 v2 that's from LJR batch - let's dive in:

This Yeezy 350 V2 Desert Sage dropped 14th of March in most retailers across the globe. The new colorway is composed of a desert sage Primeknit upper with a tonal side stripe which reflects when hit by a flash or direct light. A translucent Boost cushioned sole and orange interior completes the design. However you take it, we cannot deny that this colorway is something that many will definite pickup.

DISCLAIMER

This pair might not look like what you'll buy so no guarantees, you need luck to find a good pair.

ORDER PROCESS & QC

This is the second pair that I bought from Monica (first was the BASF Alien last Dec) so I just

my mailbox adventure: UPDATE

So the other day I told the story of how it took me like half an hour to figure out how to get my blender out of the mailbox.

Well, normally I work out at night because that's when A. I have time and B. the temperatures reach tolerable levels for my extremely cold-favoring physiology, but today, given my new blender, I took advantage of having a day off work to go for a rare daytime bike ride, with the promise of a creamy and delicious chocolate banana milkshake when I got back, with the milk in the fridge, the frozen bananas in the freezer, and the cocoa powder in the pantry calling my name. OR so I thought. When I got back in the door, I discovered that one of my housemates had TAKEN MY BANANAS OUT OF THE FREEZER AND LEFT THEM ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER. They were now entirely thawed and entirely disgusting. Needless to say, I did not have my milkshake today.

Now, it's not the money. Bananas are cheap. And it's not even the post-workout recovery: there's always water to lower the tempe

Please Obey the Posted Metro Operating Hours.

If you ask people who've spent any relevant amount of time in DC, you might hear that the city is its own animal, something like a collective organism. A hive. Sprawling legs that cover all parts of the city. Tainting them, or gracing them, it depends on who you ask. It has pristine, clean parts, and dirty parts. In some places, you're in danger of being in someone's vacation photo. In others, you're in danger of being robbed or accosted by a resident nutcase. Either way, you eventually become part of the city, and it becomes part of you.

This particular night, I'd been out doing nothing in particular. I'd just gotten a new, big, fast lens for my DSLR and decided to have a night walking around taking pictures of the monuments. With a podcast playing through my headphones, I wandered around the mall, shooting long exposures and occasionally switching on the big flash to get a candid shot of some tourist or denizen walking on the street.

It was a hot Friday night in the middle of sum

The neighborhood hoarder finally cleaned up his yard. I think he was making room for a cult.

In every little slice of suburbia, quietly tucked away in those β€œcute neighborhoods” referenced in the real estate pamphlets, there is always THAT house. You know the one. The β€œshit show.”

Welcome to Saddle Downs. At one time the best neighborhood in town, but now amongst the perfectly manicured lawns and driveways with nary a spot of oil leakage, an unholy abomination that looks like an episode of Hoarders made sweet love to Fred Sanford’s bread and butter elicits sighs and dramatic eye rolling from all who reside here. They wonder out loud β€œhow someone who can afford to buy here could live in that kind of mess. Of all the damned nerve!”

Standing in the driveway--garden hose in hand and meticulously rinsing my yard tools, I surveyed my crab grass outbreak with disdain and BOILED under the surface about what he’s done to this once beautiful collection of domiciles. I know the property values here have completely gone to shit. How could they not? And it’s ME who has to live DIRECTL

Sea Monkeys Have My Family And I’m Locked In My Room!

Not exactly sea monkeys, but something like that, only much worse, a nightmare come to life. If not for the blood and brains all over my floor, I could convince myself it’s all in my mind.

Let’s start from the beginning. My name is Kyle, and I’m in the eighth grade. We had just moved into this stuck-up little town and this cruddy old house because my grandmother died and my dad wanted to fix it up before selling it.

We were in the attic sorting boxes when the side of one split open and comic books fell out.

β€œLook at these!” my dad said. β€œMust’ve been my father’s!”

We took a break to pour over the old Batmans and Dick Tracies. Flipping through a Superman, I stopped on a weird ad. Sea Monkeys, it said, only the monkeys was crossed out and replaced by the word monsters.

A bowl full of terror and mischief, the ad announced, scare your friends, scare your parents, scare yourself! Just add water and watch the little devils grow.

A drawing showed a sailing ship surrounded by se

[Day 3] Cabin

*Author's Note: I am extremely proud of how this one turned out. It was a rollercoaster to work on, I had the general idea pretty much since I woke up and slowly started to nail down some details in my head while I was at work. Then suddenly about an hour before I got off of work the ending hit me like a speeding train (the last three paragraphs). I knew exactly how it ended and just needed to figure out how it got there. Those final three paragraphs were the first thing I wrote when I sat down at my computer this evening. I then started back from the beginning, I very nearly started crying while writing this and I am not one that cries easily or often. I had tears in my eyes as I wrote that first section, tears of sorrow for what the main character would have to go through as well as tears of guilt that I was the one putting her through it. If I managed to get even 1% of the emotion that I felt writing this across I will be satisfied. This is a horror story, or at least my first attem

Cabin Edit

Authors's Note: Not sure how often I'll do this but I have edited day 3's submission and would like to show off the final product. A HUGE shoutout goes to Boo and Ottdragon on "The Writing Cafe" discord for taking the time to look at and edit the piece. Not only did they do that but they sat down and chatted with me about it, so that I could understand why they suggested the changes that they did and I could explain my reasoning and see if that changed their feedback. Also Boo went above and beyond and gave the piece a second look over after I went through his suggestions and implemented some of them. So without further ado here is Cabin in what is most likely it's final form.

My face split open and I released an unholy sound as a massive yawn took over my body, when I finally regained control of the muscles in my face I took a look at the GPS;we still had another thirty minutes before we finally made it to our destination.

Same goes for Twitter, Google search, Reddit, Google news aggregator, YouTube on Smart TVs, Facebook and on & on.

β€’ Television programming in general. See "The View", etc. that constantly misinforms their viewers.

SOLUTION:

The Corporate Media Complex working in collusion with the CIA is the firewall [that protects
