Up until modern times, animal intestines have served as strings for instruments. Would I need to go to a specialist to replace my strings? Or is this something most musicians knew how to do themselves?

Bard/lute needs a buff

As is the tiered lute is incredibly underwhelming. The main draw of it, the range buff, has no real practicality for the majority of bows with multishot and serves solely to buff other players (melee). The defense buff is nice, but is nothing game changing or amazing.

Not to mention almost all of those small benefits are completely lost by it having an unnecessarily long cooldown. I’m not gonna stand at 1.25 distance away if my range buff is down, making the buff completely obsolete since I have to stay in normal range anyway to maintain dps when it drops. Do you expect us to be constantly running at and away from an enemy at all times to take advantage of it? That’s just tedious boring and distracting. And that’s doubled for the defense duration.

Now I don’t wanna just complain without providing reasonable alternatives

Ideal changes in order of desirability

  1. Remove cooldown completely, or at least make it 3-4 seconds. The bard having a massive mana pool should be usable. What

Suggested resources for learning/studying music of the Renaissance? Particularly for the lute?

As the title above states, I’m looking for any suggestions for learning about Renaissance music, both in general and for the lute.

I’ve been playing the lute for 3 years or so, and it’s the only instrument I’ve really studied. Aside from taking private lessons, I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for resources pertaining to the topic.

I am interested in learning about ideas of music theory during the period and how it translated into the music I am learning to play.

I feel one of the weakest areas in my study of the instrument is in the realm of theory and the ability to critically analyze the music I am playing.

I have a few books about the lute, but they do not go into detail about the musicβ€” they are much more focused on the history of the instrument.

I greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Shavka's Lute

I've been brewing some single faction stuff lately and really enjoyed the relics. One of the more fun decks I played was a Grodov and Shavkas mixture with Grenadines. (https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/9exSunm5pkw/shavkas-song?view=list)

Highlights

  • Playing Grodovs weapons from your sacrifices stacks warcrys from Shavka's. Having 3 Shavka's, Grodovs, and 2 Grenadins plays a 9/9, warcry 9, flying, overwhelm, exalted dragon.

  • Attack with infernus and sac at the end of the turn with a grenadin for cheap dragons.

  • Lumen reclaimers replenish the deck and also make good sacrifice targets so they multiply.

  • Sacing Devotee of the sands when they emerge creates an exalted weapon with unlockable.

  • Using Lumen will return all of the infernus' to your deck, ensuring you don't run out of dragon fuel.

  • Even getting swept leaves your entombed units out for targets of all the Grodovs weapons

Struggles

  • Unitless

  • Not getting a Grodovs when you need to start making dragons

Recommended easy lute music for accompanying voice?

Hello!

I've been taking lute lessons for about a year now, and voice lessons a little longer. One of my milestone goals is building a repertoire of renaissance ayres from composers like Dowland or Thomas campion accompanying my own voice with the lute. However, a lot of renaissance ayres are pretty complicated for getting a start on multitasking.

Would anyone be able to recommend me some easier lute/voice music to start out with? Bonus if there are recordings! By the way, it doesn't have to be renaissance or even an 'ayre'. I'm honestly looking for something more 'folk-like'. Thank you!

Problems with Lutes

These are just a few problems I've noticed with lutes:

  1. the music notes that come out of the lute appear for everyone which adds to lag
  2. parrots show for everyone and their particles combine to add a lot of lag when in big groups of bards.
  3. increased range screws over some weird pattern weapons, for example colo sword (not too bad because you at least get extra range), but corruption cutters get destroyed by extra range because it makes it so it is nearly impossible to land both shots whereas without inspired you can comfortably land both shots at like 3 tiles away

Thomann Lute vs Roosebeck Lute vs Harp-Guitar, questions from a beginner

A bit of background.

A few years ago I got a Roosebeck 8C Deluxe lute, took some lessons, and found that on pieces with more complex chords, such as Greensleeves for instance, I had a lot of trouble hitting and fretting the exact strings required. After looking online I found that the string spacing on it was way off, the distance between strings in the course was too big making it harder to hit both at once, and the distance between courses was subsequently small, so I'd end up grazing an adjacent string.Well I tried doing what turned into full blown surgery on it, and not its just a mess of odd sounding strings, lots of 2nd and 3rd harmonics, and most strings sound like they are buzzing all the time, and no its not fret buzz, its some kinda internal resonance.

So, I am approaching the conclusion that my current Frankenstein lute is beyond saving, and thinking about getting another (entry level priced) one.Has Roosebeck's quality gotten any better since say 2015?Is Thomann a good op

Tiered Lutes feel underwhelming

Maybe it's a bit too early, but I can't help but think that the tiered lutes feel a bit underwhelming.

The actual range increase isn't that large, and the concept of a range increase in general doesn't do much unless you're trying to shoot from beyond base range. I haven't seen that happen very often.

Also, since the buff only lasts a few seconds before the bard needs to reapply it, most people don't use the buff by moving back a square and shooting before moving up a square again when it wears off, instead they keep shooting at their base range so as to not lose dps on the downtime.

As for how to make lutes feel more impactful, maybe reintroduce a nerfed version of energized? Or maybe make it boost the defense of allies as well as self?

What do you all think of tiered lutes?

Bach BWV998 Allegro on the German baroque lute

This piece is often played on the guitar so I thought you might be interested to hear this as there are very few recordings played on the 'correct' German lute of Bach's time.
Bach’s BWV 998 is in my opinion the best piece associated with the baroque lute, but also very problematic. There can be little doubt now that it was written for the lautenwerk (gut strung harpsichord) rather than the lute and it is rarely played on the lute because of the severe technical difficulties. When it is, it is mostly played on other non-18th century German types of lutes with different tunings; the only other video on Youtube is played on a single strung archlute in a non-standard tuning, it’s played very well but doesn’t have the right sound to my ears.

I experimented with adapting BWV 998 to the German baroque lute years ago but decided to revisit it. I approached it thinking of β€œhow would Weiss have played it?”. So, I used open strings and slurs as much as possible, otherwise it sounds too st

This was intended for non-players, but there may be something of interest, the demonstrations focus on the transition from 13-course lute to mandora to 'lute guitar' - a topic not often covered.

[Spoilers] Vanity Ability Effects, Class-Specific Items and Bard's Lute Updates/ST/UTs

subject to change

A lot of variety this time, mostly because there's just been a lot of small shit.

Vanity Ability Effects

This looks to be a new monetization scheme, and it's a pretty good one for Deca standards. TLDR use shard with rare UT to give it a [vanity] special effect.

Shards
