Hermione and the Locket

I'm really curious about how the Locket affected Hermione. We know it made both Harry and Ron extremely short-tempered and angry. Harry's doubts about his friends' loyalty and his own capabilities magnified exponentially while Ron's jealousy just about exploded out of him.

So what did it do to Hermione?

I think the Horcrux played with her fear of failure and got her to work harder.

And it seems counter-intuitive at first, but think about it. How much harder can Hermione work before she crashes and burns? She's the main strategist for their team. It's her magic that means they have food to eat most days. She's the one doing the protection charms. She has been the designated peace-keeper of the group. That's a lot of responsibility and stress for a teenage girl.

Now imagine that the Horcrux is whispering to her that she's not doing enough. Ron almost died in her arms because she splinched him. He is still in a sling because she didn't learn healing spells when she really should have. They don't have any food because she was stupid and she should have prepared for this as well. Her mind plays all the ways her protective enchantments fail and they die because she was negligent of her duties. Let it play the names of all the people who died because she's not producing the answers they need fast enough.

She's supposed to be better than this.

And so Hermione reads her books over and over. She obsesses over the littlest details in their plans. She checks her wards once, twice, thrice even when she's meant to be sleeping. She inventories what they need to get and panics when they run out of supplies. She practices the magic until she loses all feeling in her arm. She makes plans, contingency plans, and contingency plans for her contingency plans. She is the first one up and the last one to bed, and even then, it takes hours to fall asleep because her mind is still whirling about everything they still have to do and everything she doesn't know.

And still, the Horcrux croons to her all the ways she's failing and failing and failing. How can she just lie there and do nothing as others are out there and dying?! Forget that she can't remember the last time she's slept. Ignore the fact that she can barely see straight from the exhaustion, that her hands shake as she weaves the wards. She's so tired she's about to puke, but she can't stop yet. She hasn't earned her rest yet.

The Horcrux can't make her leave, but it can work her to the ground until sh

When do you actually buy and make use of Holy Locket?

For 2500 gold I feel like this could've been a Glimmer Cape, Force Staff or other utility items. I tried to make use of Holy Locket in a couple of occasions but it just feels like a glorified Magic Wand for a whopping 2500 gold. The 20 stacks heal just doesn't feel that good in the mid to late game imho..

I am a relatively low elo player. I play with friend who are plat+, but can’t seem to grind out of bronze as a support maining naut. Whenever i play ranked, locket feels weak, with my teammates not being able to utilize the peel i can give them. Ramblings on Bami's, Locket, and other support items

Most of this is just random musings and ideas may not be fully formed or thought through. Any input would be appreciated.

Ornn is unusual for a tank in that he has strong, fast waveclear after you get some levels on him. Most tanks are tuned in such a way that they have to dedicate a lot of effort to clearing minions in time and resources, and as a result pick up Bami's Cinder as a way of boosting this. In fact it was so ubiquitous that with the item rework all the tank mythics now include that item.

I'm not sure Ornn actually needs it. Historically you would pick it up because Sunfire Cape provided the most EHP out of all the early armour options you could get, the only other option was Iceborn Gauntlet which sacrificed a lot of EHP for its CDR and slow, usually a bad trade off. Given how overtuned Sunfire Aegis was on release as well it's no surprise that most people defaulted to that as well, but you didn't really get much of a boost to waveclear from it because W plus E already mulches all non cannon minion, if you proc the brittle on the melee minions. Bami's also has some disadvantages, mainly you can't turn it off. If you hit a minion then the burn starts and you end up pushing the wave unless you walk away from it, if someone hits you near a tower the burn starts and you draw tower aggro, you give up control in exchange for pushing speed, the same sort of trade off as Tiamat. So if Sunfire is no longer in the must buy catagory and we don't really need the Bami's passive, do we have to buy a tank mythic?

As a result I had a look at Locket. Really cheap, loads of haste, and provides a surprising amount of EHP. 30 arm, 30 mr, and 200 health, plus the shield. You're never going to be picking up the mythic before level 8-9, and even if you get a really crappy shield that is only half effective you're still going to get at least 150 health out of it, so we are already even on EHP with the tank mythics at one item. Even after upgrade you're still doing well on EHP, you've got a tiny smidge less resists but more health and more haste.

The sacrifice is you've got no Bami, so less damage output. But while you've got less damage output, you are providing EHP to everyone around you passively and can give them even more EHP with the active, which negates one of the biggest problems tanks have: why hit the guy with all the EHP. Usually it's because the tank kills you if you don't, but Locket gives another answer to that.

Support items on Ornn also aren't a

i was doing some math on locket vs moonstone and outside of the armor/mr/ap
locket look like it was about about the same for 5tricks of moonstone and locket is +2armor/mr what make anyone that heals have more hp

so locket+ olaf aatox is good gets staff on 1-5
but takes more skill to use

and armor/mr tanks make moonstone better
need for you to cast/aa on 2sec cd what works on 1 player at time
in my eye the 2sec cd can take skill to min/max has anyone done testing on how to min/max moonstone

so i like to know if anyone has done more math on the 2items

and for player that take staff i hope we run fol for the uptime of the staff for the team but i do think rede+lock maybe the same uptime what lest us run more item cdr

So this is probably going to make me sound like a total moron but I'm going to post it anyway. I just finished reading Half Blood Prince for the 4th time a couple of days ago and I just had a realization about something that happens toward the end of the book. When Harry and Dumbledore go to the cave to retrieve Slytherin's Locket Harry attempts to summon it by yelling, "accio Horcrux", which obviously doesn't work. The reader is left to assume that Harry's summoning charm doesn't work because of some sort of magical protection Voldemort puts on the locket but really the summoning charm doesn't work because Harry is trying to summon specifically a horcrux, which the locket in the cave is not.

Where is Holy Blessing now? Does it work or was deleted in 7.28? I see no information in item description about it.

What heroes should purchase it now? Dotabuff say's it's Wisp, Chen and Abbadon, but if Holy Blessing was deleted, this item haven't any differences with Magic Wand.

Holy Locket DOES actually amplify undying's soul rip guys

I'm not sure why people were believing in that thread so much. I tested in demo several times, with actual pictures to prove it, and it indeed does work with HL. Pay attention to the combat log on the left and the timestamps of the heal, as well my inventory.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/248095852642566145/783387716989222973/unknown.png

I'm gonna do more tests with more units and post the results. First pic i have HL in the backpack, 2nd pic i have it equipped. Note the timestamps. Now i just tested with 1 extra unit and it still works

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/248095852642566145/783390377859743855/unknown.png

Now with 4 axes, the heal amp works just fine. I don't think i need to test more.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/248095852642566145/783390985790291989/unknown.png

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/248095852642566145/783391109271126056/unknown.png

The reason why I tested with a variable number of units is because I thought it was first a bug relating to the number of units on the map. I don't have time to test more for now, but rest assured Holy Locket does work with Undying's soul rip. Dota is full of hidden and obtuse mechanics , especially with what's considered heal or not, but that's not one of them.

edit: So the OP from that thread apparently tested HL in a dummy target, which explains why it wasn't working.
