Looking for some Linear Programming/Programming help

I have a problem that requires a linear programming model to be made and the model to be implemented into a programming software that finds an optimal solution (not excel). The software suggested is CPLEX OPL Studio Wondering where if anyone knows where I can find help for something like this or if anyone can help directly. The problem is pretty specific/complex and the deadline is approaching so I’m running out of options. I’ve looked at github and other sources - although all suggestions are appreciated. So I’m really looking just looking for a tutor that can help me realize what I’m doing wrong or just do it entirely.

For those who took Calculus or Linear Algebra, did you find either of those two maths harder to learn than learning a computer programming language or did you find learning an actual programming language and building apps from that to be harder?

I really like to know your thoughts on this. Whenever people ask about learning a programming language, the first thing they often ask is if do I need to know math to learn programming. I've taken hard math courses, and I find math not hard at all to learn. What about you guys?

Has anyone here developed long term linear programming for forestry harvesting schedules from scratch?

Hi folks, I'm having trouble understanding some of the way the Linear programming constraint building for "future treatments" of stands. As in how do you model the constraints for 20-30 years in the futures and how do you build the edge-node matrix and convert it into a constraint equation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: This is not an assignment. Rather I'm in the infrastructure world and I'd like to use forestry harvesting / scheduling / multi period models with treatments to solve my problem

[Hiring] Linear Programming developer using Pulp

I am looking for someone experienced with Linear programming to solve a problem. The problem is a mix of Bin Packing and Wedding Problem and requires a fair bit of knowledge in converting my requirement to use Linear Programming

If you have heavy experience in Linear Programming you should possible be able to solve the problem in a day.

Requirement

The idea is to build an ideal flooring plan based on the constraints.

  • for eg: The laminate should overlap for at least 40 cm and last cuts should be more than 40 cm

Also the solution should be optimal such that any extra cuts in one laminate can be used as a starting piece in another column.

Integer Linear Programming staff cost minimising question

University level maths (Management Science Integer linear programming)

Part of Question I'm stuck at: Constraint: full time workers (X) are allowed a break of 1 hour (out of 8) and half the full time workers take a break at 12pm while the other half take a break at 1pm. If there is an odd number of workers then the higher number of nurses take a break earlier.

Constraint (according to me): 12 pm constraint: 0.5x + z1 + .... >= 16 1pm constraint: 0.5 +z1 +... >= 18 *Where z= part time workers (ignore this variable mostly as it is solved)

' when I solve it I get the answer as: 0.5(5) + z1.... >= 16.5 0.5(5) + z1....>= 18.5

How do I get the answer to be a whole number. I'm using Excel solver to do it.

Linear programming

Hi I am struggling a bit processing on how to write down the constraints for this linear program. I am beginner in linear programming so this is pretty new to me.

The question below:

With the machinery you have right now, you see that you can create 200 Type X ventilators per hour and 140 Type Y ventilators per hour. After some calculations, you note that the profit per Type X ventilator is $25 and the profit per Type Y ventilator is $30. You have also discovered that in a week you can create a maximum of 6000 Type X ventilators and 4000 Type Y ventilators because of the person-hours and capacity of specialists available to you.

Note that you have only 40 hours per week to produce them.

The objective function would be to "maximize profits: 25X + 30Y" right?

The constraints I am struggling to wrap my head around. How would I write down the production units per hour, maximum units per week and the 40 hours of production in total. Would I have to also take into consideration the weeks and hour conversion?

Need help with the constraints for the linear programming question and how I’d go about formulating it on Excel.

Case study: The nurses answering telephones in a healthcare call centre are expected to speak to 5 patients each per hour. The service operates between 9am and 5pm.

The call centre can employ up to 10 full time nurses, and it has many nurse willing to take part time shifts. Part time nurses work 4 hours if they are requested to work at all, and can start anytime from 9am to 1pm. They earn £10 per hour. Full time nurses work 8 hours from 9am to 5pm and are entitled to 1 hour break where half the full time nurses take a break at noon and the other half at 1pm (if there are an odd number of nurses than the higher number of nurses have an earlier break), they earn £90 per day. For consistency there must be at least 5 full time nurses working each day.

You have been asked to design a roster to minimise the workforce cost.

9am-10am = 50 patients 10am-11am = 60 patients 11am-noon = 70 patients Noon-1pm = 80 patients 1pm-2pm = 90 patients 2pm-3pm = 80 patients 3pm-4pm = 70 patients 4pm-5pm = 50 patients

What I have so far is that the objective function is Z= 90x + 40y And 5<= x <= 10 X= full time nurses y= part time nurses And the approach I’m looking at is optimising by time period 9am-10am x+y >= 10 10am-11am x+y >= 12 etc etc... And then 12pm-1pm [1/2x] + y >= 14 (to take in account the breaks) 1pm-2pm [1/2x] + y >=18

Is this the right approach? Have I missed something?

How to write a non-typical constraint in Solver? (Linear Programming)

I am trying to use solver in a linear programming model. I have the most recent version of excel.

I have a constraint that the total number of product A to be produced must be 4X that of the amount of product B to be produced. In solver, I can only find such constraints as "<=" or ">=" which will not give me the result I need.

Linear Programming: How to construct explicit constraints?

I am having trouble to construct explicit constraints. In this problem, there are two variables that I could consider as constraint themselves as seen in the photo but I feel that they should both be placed into one.

The problem:

>During the pandemic, a vegetable farmer in Laguna ships 900 baskets of vegetables on a freight truck daily to a certain Muntinlupa public market to alleviate the economic effect brought about by COVID-19. He must ship at least 550 baskets of lettuce and at most 200 baskets of celery. Furthermore, his profits are Php200 per basket of lettuce and Php225 per basket of celery. Determine the manner in which he should be loading the freight truck in order to maximize his profit.

Whats more useful, grad class in numerical analysis or linear programming(optimization)?

Hey so I have the option of either taking a grad class in num analysis or lin programming this semester, and I'm not sure what would be more useful for me in the future. I want to have a solid background for data science as well as quant trading, so what would you guys say?

Edit: my current background in math is calc 1-4, probability theory and stochastic processes (very basic stoch honestly)

In cs I'll also be taking grad courses in big data storage and algorithms
