TIFU and realized I wasted my whole life. at 42 years of age took the safe path as a dentist. My advise to people at a similar age.
I think I have wasted my whole life to be honest.
I am Joe, I have been a lurking for a while. I created this account to get my story across, I have no idea what I am planning to achieve by doing so, but I hope it can help those who are at crossroads and are stuck between passion and safety.
For the past 15 years of life, I have been a dentist, a path that I chose after leaving a job to study further in the hopes I will make more money. I do not even know why I cared about money when I did not even spend any of it. I met my wife before I started school, when I was 20, when I was a risktaker, a dreamer and wanted to change the world.
Now Iβm in a place where I have chronic pain, a cheating wife, kids who donβt love me, a life of staring into mouths all day, a dull brain, no more passions and hopes, no real purpose in life.
I wanted to work as a social worker or an educator, but my parents and wife thought that I could help people in other ways that pay well. They convinced me to tak

Being afraid of law enforcement, even if you don't commit any illegal activities and don't have a record, is completely normal. They have the ability to totally fuck your life up.
I don't carry a gun, don't do drugs, and don't break the law. I still do a massive double take when a cop car pulls behind me. Yes I realize they're human and most of them aren't sociopaths. But people with a badge can totally fuck your life (sometimes without meaning to) and rarely face repercussions. Telling people that if they're not doing anything illegal they have nothing to be afraid of is stupid. You should always be on high alert when you're dealing with someone with a weapon who could easily shoot you on a suspicion and would almost certainly not be prosecuted for it.
EDIT: ok so a lot of people are saying this is popular? If this were so popular why would there be protests across the us? Reddit is a lot more diverse than some of you seem to think, and plenty of people have commented saying this is bullshit. So no, I donβt think this is popular. Maybe in your circles, but itβs very controversial in general.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty- Why I love it so much
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a 2014 film about a mild mannered employee at life magazine (portrayed by Ben Stiller) a constant daydreamer who wishes for an adventurous life, and is given the chance to go on a true adventure when he travels to to three different countries to track down Sean OβConnel, a photographer who Walter believes has a valuable photo negative thatβs poised to be the final cover of life magazine.
On its release, it was given a lukewarm reaction, and it was criticized for its product placement, but I firmly believe that itβs one of the most inspiring, underrated films of the last decade. Itβs a tribute to ordinary people, going out into the unknown and doing amazing things, and by the end of the film, you feel like youβve been there for the journey.
This may be a very unpopular opinion, and Iβm ok with that, but to me, it speaks on a very deep and personal level. It reminds of Alaska, where I grew up, and the pioneer spirit that has become so engrained in t

LPT: Know you're about to get fired? Then for heaven's sake don't throw your resignation in first in one last show of defiance. The meeting where they let you go is your chance to extract a great severance package and positive references. Employers want a clean departureβdon't make their life easy.
If things have gone sour but you think they're on shaky ground, hold your nerve and stay the course. Your future self will thank you for it.
Edit: Lots of debate about whether you are getting fired, laid off, terminated, fired for cause, or whatever. The point is: you don't make your situation better by quitting right before they fire you. Their documentation will be the same: terminated for xyz.
Edit2: The 'severance package' might amount to just securing a supportive reference for your next job.
