Knowledge Matters

A common experience I hear when speaking with teachers is that they want so badly to focus on facilitating the development of their kiddos' resilience, empathy, mindfulness, etc., but that parents don't understand or appreciate the value of this over specific content knowledge. How do you go about communicating to parents the importance/value of these life skills?

Edit: RIP inbox. Seriously though, thank you for all the amazing responses. I’m going to catalogue every comment on a document and then slowly pick a few and go down the list. As someone that hasn’t been a huge reader earlier on in my life I’m so excited to get lost in some amazing books.

The “jezebel” side being… having a sense of self, desiring and seeking autonomy, believing that our time, minds, energy and bodies have value. Meaning... not tiptoeing around men’s feelings at the expense of keeping our own gender subjugated and censored. Because what’s the point? Where is the reward? Where is the incentive?

Misogynists effectively dismantle 15-20+ years of patriarchal conditioning that the typical woman receives throughout her life— social conditioning that greatly benefits them, when they run their mouths on Reddit/online. When a woman spends 20 minutes on Reddit and realizes she can never win, that she can never redeem herself, that there are no avenues to being one of the “good women”, that no matter what she does— she is hated. What incentive does she have to pander to men, to seek their validation? What incentive does she have to give them the benefit of the doubt, “a chance”? Why should a woman endanger her own life, future and mind, for “the chance” that an investment in a man will pay off? By this, I don’t mean just in relationships— but in everyday interactions. What’s the point being nice to a strange man, when there is a high chance he will not see it as a gesture of politeness or human kindness, but as a sexual invitation?

Now add to this— men’s diminished economic, physical and logistical leverage over women. Why should women seek to be submissive to men, to continually give them chance after chance, when not only do they openly reveal their contempt towards women, but they are also literally not physically necessary anymore for survival? That in fact, oftentimes a man’s presence in her life, reduces a woman’s chances of survival.

Intelligent, nuanced and covert misogyny is much harder to dismantle, if not nearly impossible. FDS would not exist if misogynistic men were smarter and thought more long-term, if they could see shades of grey, if they had any self-control or self-discipline.

If misogynists were more than just sentient, if they could do more than fog up a mirror— not only would FDS not exist, female dissent would barely exist, there wouldn't be any feminists PERIOD let alone radfem leaning FDS ones, they wouldn’t have any “mean bad bitch women” to complain about.

As for gold digging— when you completely devalue women’s biological value, intellectual value, social value, her time, her earning ability, her options, when you have the audacity to want a woman to have her own money, but you don’t take her job/car

(This is my first post in this group. I hope I'm not violating any rule in this post and it won't be deleted)

I am from Cerner India, have been working in AMS-SWx team for over 6 years. Here, only stats matter. How many number of tickets are closed per month/week matters. In case of less tickets in any solution, They even make cross training on different solutions(just 2-3 days training) to make sure that associate reaches target. Ops jobs (automatically logged) tickets are considered as productivity. We are asked to inform client to make a single ticket into multiple tickets to increase our productivity.

There's no value for the quality or knowledge of an associate. Only stats matter to them. Although KC management has warned Bangalore AMS team, it has no effect.

When I asked our AMS Director about taking up some new clients tickets, which could improve my domain knowledge, he said: "we are focused on productivity only. Improving associate's knowledge is not our priority". I was shocked to hear this from our director.

If an associate doesn't reach target for consecutively 2 months, he/she will be fired. Some are not even put into PIP(performance improvement program). Though they achieve target in PIP, they'll fired. Management thinks that this will make others to reach their productivity. Every month 1 or 2 associates have been getting fired(or they are asked to put down paper). AR partner is friends with the management and they are least bothered about associate's concern.

Is this how AMS-SWx in all regions or is it only over here in Bangalore?

Hey guys, I was asked to create a new version of an existing wordpress site and i started to wonder on how to act.

First of all i'm working without a mock-up so i feel really insecure on how to realize pages and i don't have any idea on how to realize a professional mockup (i have some graphic software knowledge but it's not that much) so there's that.

Having said that, i'm also finding myself asking them some questions that i thought they should be able to answer (credentials and stuff like that) and they're struggling to answer them so this makes the situation all the more insecure and irritating, i sometimes can't work because i have to wait on them to answer.

I wondered what other people in this field do when the client has literally no clue on anything, and they probably just got abandoned by their previous tech expert or, even worse, they never got a tech expert and just ousourced their site a long time ago and then forgot about it.

For example now I'm waiting on them to give me permission to update wordpress because i can't go on without a new version, but that will inevitably visually "break" the site and render it unusable until i complete the new version(i've already made a backup of everything but that was also more difficult than it had to be).

If you were in my place, would you ask them permission to do the things you need to do or would you just do them?

I learned recently that Romanians and Roma people are not the same!

I didn’t know that because of the media and the stereotypes that people spread around.

The thing is, where I live, whenever I go shopping and I see a Roma person around I see also the security following them wherever they go and just right in front of them.

What do you think about this type of treatment?

Does that happen all the time?

This is in response to someone saying that "doubts are part of faith" which is unwarranted and uncalled for. Having lack of knowledge of the Deen can easily make one conflate some matters erroneously. Doubts are not at all part of faith but rather certainty is part of faith. One should never claim something before having checked if the scholars have talked about it before and if one's understanding truly coincides or conforms with how scholars have understood it. Otherwise, one will mislead others and give them a misinformed understanding.

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

>إِيَّاكَ أَنْ تَتَكلّمَ فِي مَسْأَلَةٍ لَيْسَ لَكَ فِيْهَا إِمَامٌ

>"You should beware of speaking (on the matters of this Deen) about an issue in which you are not preceded by an imam (i.e. scholar)." Quoted from I'laamul-Muwwaqi'een (4/266); and Majmoo` al-Fatawa.

Having doubts contradicts some of the conditions of shahaadatayn, which are:

1. Knowledge

2. Certainty

3. Acceptance

4. Truthfulness

5. Submission

6. Sincerity

7. Love

Even worse, having doubt in certain aspects of the Deen can in fact be tantamount to disbelief.

Muslim (27) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No one will meet Allah with this (twin declaration of faith), not doubting it, but he will enter Paradise.”

Al-Bukhaari (86) and Muslim (905) narrated that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “It was revealed to me that you will be tested in your graves; it will be said: What do you know about this man? The believer or the one who has certain faith will say: He is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah; he came to us with clear signs and guidance, and we responded and followed (him); he is Muhammad – three times. Then it will be said to him: Sleep the sleep of the righteous, for we knew that you believed with certain faith in him. As for the hypocrite or the doubter, he will say: I do not know, I heard the people saying something so I said it.”

So the other day I made a post about how education is key, and that if you want to be successful the best route is to learn as much as possible. Now I want to clarify as some people messaged me attempting to debate me that a college degree isn't needed for success, and to that I 100% agree. I believe a degree is something that narrows the talent pool when applying for jobs; however, when working for yourself things like degrees, certificates, and any other form of paper have no real use in the entrepreneurial world. It's rather about how you apply that knowledge moving forward. For instance, I have a degree in marketing but coming out of school I didn't know anything about the actual world of digital marketing. My business struggled for years on end until I bought my mentor's course and studied the concepts day and night until I was a digital marketing pro. I then took those new-found skills and applied them to my drop shipping model and then after weeks of fine-tuning I was able to find success. But just having a college degree did absolutely nothing for me, instead, you should take the skills, learn them, and then apply them to real-world situations because that is how you create a successful business model. Not just by obtaining a piece of paper. So don't just go out and strive to get a piece of paper, take that knowledge and use it!
