I dated a girl that had two different cell phones that represented two different personas. She was herself on her main cell phone, but had a burner phone that she used and would pretend she was someone else.
Some background: I started my first, full-time, office job at a corporate America hell hole a week after college. It was an industry I hadn’t worked in before and I needed to be licensed. The company that hired me, we’ll call them Smith Inc., paid for my licensing fees, study materials, classes, etc. for me to become licensed. The total cost was about $500. It was a sweet deal. They gave me approximately 90 days (paid) to study a textbook and pass an online course. I didn’t have to do any work for the company, simply study and pass the licensing exam. It was pretty easy and I passed on my first try.
My boss, let’s call her Mary, was super excited that I passed and I began training under an associate level coworker who had just been promoted from the position I was in. The coworker, Jen, was super great and helpful. She began training me on two simple tasks that I could do, the only rule was if the client had a question specifically about their contract, I would ask Jen or forward it to my team-lead. Well, I ended up getting an email from a client about their contract and I video called Jen to ask how to handle. She walked me through it as I shared my screen with her. I wrote the email back to the client exactly how she told me and she read the email before sending.
A month goes by and everything is great. I’m learning and getting more comfortable. Then I get a really nasty email from Mary. She CC’s my whole team into the email going on and on about how I cannot answer contract questions and how she’s gone over this with me before (she hadn’t, Jen was the one who told me I can’t answer contract questions). Both Jen and I try to explain what happened and that Jen was the one who wrote the email, I just typed what Jen said and sent it from my email since the client emailed me and not Jen. Mary then calls the team up in a video call and goes on about how I don’t know anything and I just started and I really dont know how this industry works and that answering contract questions is out of my job description. It went on for about 5 minutes. I say “Okay.” and get off the call crying.
The next day out of pure pettiness I simply do the absolute bare minimum. I don’t know anything, right, Mary? I still complete all my tasks and everything that’s required of me. Anything more advanced that I would normally try to learn with Jen’s help? Nope. I just forwarded it to our team lead and said “Sorry, Mary said I can’t do anything outside of my job description!” Work... keep reading on reddit ➡
Just for background information, when I (19f) was 4 years old my dad died. At his funeral his parents told me, my mom (28yo at the time) and my sister (6yo at the time) that we are the reasons he died.
They also kept his life insurance money, that was supposed to go to my sister and I.
Since then, my grandparents have refused contact with all three of us and the only form of contact I have with them is them sending me and my sister a $50 gift card to Walmart twice a year (birthday’s and Christmas). The last time I received a gift card from them was on my 10th birthday and it was for Baby’sRUs. I haven’t heard from them since.
They live in Florida and I live in New York so I have no chance of seeing them either, at least I thought.
Flash forward to present day, 3 days ago now, I was in Walmart near my house to get a few things for my mom. When I walked past the pharmacy I saw my dads parents. I tried to hide in the isles because I didn’t want confrontation, but they saw me anyway.
They started asking me a bunch of questions about my families financial situations and college and if I’m married yet, stuff like that. I responded by saying “I have no idea who you are.” They looked angry and shocked by this but told me who they were and after that I told them I had no desire to talk to them and I didn’t have anything to say to them anyway.
I started walking away and was just going to leave it alone, but then they said “you’re so disrespectful. we are your grandparents and you need to treat us better than that. your mom did a terrible job with you.” After that comment I turned around and went off on them. I said something along the lines of “you are not my grandparents because you abandoned my sister and I after telling us we are the reasons for our dads death and you stole his money from us. Don’t you dare talk about my mother either because she did an amazing job with us without any help from you two. I’d be happy with never seeing your sorry faces again.” I started to walk away again and heard my grandmother start to cry, but I kept walking.
AITA? The are technically my grandparents, but they did so many things that are unforgivable.
EDIT: Also, my dad was active in the military when he passed. The VA has been paying my sister and I a certain amount every month since his passing. I did not have access to this money until a year ago, when I turned 18. To me it doesn’t seem like a coincidence that they showed up only a little while after I gained ac... keep reading on reddit ➡
Just thought I'd share what I have been suspecting all along. GameStop has become a huge problem!! Not a tiny little annoying problem, no no. This is becoming a thorn in the side of the biggest players on the market. The higher ups thought retail would just tuck their tails between their legs after they coordinated a stoppage back in Jan. Dumb money would just take their licks and go back to life as usual.
Guess what Apes, you fucked up their plan. They were praying all this would just go away and it would be business as usual. Fuck people. They have been literally rewriting the fucking RULES because they can't ignore this problem anymore! The system is getting exposed. Short selling has been going on for years and nobody really cared. A little slight manipulation. Everyone does it. That's just how the industry works.....everyone just cheats a little and if you get caught, they slap a fine on you. Business as usual.
I spoke with some people across multiple industries just friendly catching up type shit since I know what they do. All them said, "You know I can't talk about that" and I respect that. Every single one of them when I asked, are you at least aware the GameStop situation, every SINGLE one just said a version of, "yeah what a fucking mess". EDIT: Mods if you want to contact me, I'm happy to speak to you. I'm taking out the part of the user to reported me because I wouldn't give up my friends names to a rabid pack of HFs lurkers, SEC lurkers, and rabid Apes. His comment is still up but I'll not Dox him even though it's a dick move on his part.
Edit 2: I just wrote u/redchessqueen99 since we have spoken before and she can let me know what she would like from me.
Edit 3: For anyone asking, they didn't give me anything. They literally can't talk about this stuff with people. All I got was a lot of we can't talk about that but what a shit show. SEC- If you are reading this, I would argue if you ask any single person in the world who understands a tiny bit about stocks; they know something is off with GameStop. Doesn't matter which side of the aisle, whether you are a bear or a bull on GME.....everyone knows something funky is going on with GameStop. Maybe you guys should be looking at some Market Makers instead of retail.
Picture this. There... keep reading on reddit ➡
The focus of the sub from now until June 9 is going to be VOTING
We don't make claims about catalysts around here. So I'm definitely NOT telling you that this could be the catalyst.
But the importance of exercising your right to vote cannot be understated. THIS IS OUR ONE SHOT TO PROVE TO THE SEC AND EVERYONE ELSE WHAT IS HAPPENING. GAMESTOP NEEDS OUR HELP!!
Fidelity users, TDA, WeBull, Vanguard, Schwab, and more all reported being able to get their hands on their control number and vote as of yesterday. Feel free to drop a comment below if you have already voted and want to show that off!! WE ARE GIVING AWAY VOTED STICKERS (FLAIRS) TO EVERYONE THAT HAS VOTED!! 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
Be sure to check your inbox and contact your broker if you have any questions. And also be sure that if you have multiple brokerages accounts, you will need to get a different control number for each one. So if you carry shares in 3 different brokerage accounts (I do, cuz I don't trust a bitch) then you will have 3 different control numbers and will be voting 3 different times.
Steps to Voting:
Obtained from your broker, not to be shared with anyone. This number should be confidential.
Do not input your control number unless you are 100% sure that the site is legit.
Take a moment to see what the board recommends you vote for if you are unsure. This community can not tell you how to vote, only you can decide that.
SUBMIT YOUR BALLOT.
SHARE WITH EVERYONE HOW PROUD YOU ARE TO HAVE VOTED.
Gamestop's Board of Directors is urging everyone to vote as soon as possible.
🐈 BUT PINK, WHAT IF I HAVEN'T GOTTEN MY CONTROL NUMBER YET?! 🦧
Well, did you...
Crypto is treated like a get rich quick scheme but many of the new users in this sub, which it is not. The only reliable way to make a life changing amount of money with crypto is consistent buying, and holding for the ultra-long term, no matter what happens. I don't care what some kid made in their Shiba coin, that is a fluke in my books.
If you truly want to be rich, you need to buy on a schedule, and develop a strong stomach for dips. YOU WILL NOT GET RICH IN A FEW MONTHS. This requires dedication and balls of steel.
Why would God be interested in what humans fight literal wars over? These are human fancies that a God who can literally make universes wouldn’t care about. Obviously the descriptions of heaven in the Bible were written by men who valued shiny, worthless things like pieces of yellow rock and oyster waste and assumed they would be in the afterlife. These vivid descriptions of pearly gates reflect the demand and taste of the time they were written (by humans.)
Edit: I'm getting messages referencing my daughters story on instagram. I did not post
My partner and I had to tell my daughter that even with all the doctors and medicine in the world, nothing can heal her body. There’s never been something I couldn't work hard enough and make happen. A problem I couldn't solve if I just busted my butt hard enough. But this can’t be changed, we can’t go back, we can’t throw our bodies in front of the danger that is killing our child, we are completely helpless to fix it, and it’s forever, the end.
I’ve never sent my children somewhere I have never been. I’m suffocating under my grief of not knowing where she is going and I won’t know if she got there safely. I’m not super religious but now I refuse to believe that there isn’t a place where she will be waiting for me at, I’m not done being her father.
Tragedies usually come quickly and leave devastation. No time to “make a wish”, rally the troops, or crowdfund. This pandemic has drained so many of us, the economy will normalize, money can be saved for gifts and family vacations but now my girl is racing against the worst thing; time. She won’t see another birthday, holiday, or New Year. She made a hypothetical bucket list (covid drained us). On her list is having mom and dad all to herself for a full day, meet a llama in person, ride on the back of a golf cart, and eat as many snow cones as she can before puking.
Odd, goofy, simple, just like her.We decided to tell her what was happening because she is going to start noticing (rapidly) that her brain and her body are going to no longer meet and the things she could do yesterday are things she can’t do tomorrow. I don’t want her scared. She asked me “what if I don’t know anyone in heaven?” and “how will I know when I’m safe?”.
Today we went to the library to laminate the photos of the loved ones who will be waiting to meet her. Seemingly overnight she has attached herself to these pictures and takes them everywhere she goes. She says she doesn’t want to put them down in case she forgets who to look for. As we were laying down for a nap she very quietly asked “Who is going to take pictures of me to send to you as I grow up so you know what I look like as a big girl?”. Choking back sobs while my lungs burn and a lump in my throat I pretend that I’m asleep.
Hug your kids.
Spoil your kids.

For a broad overview of Vicky 3, check out my announcement coverage on IGN: https://www.ign.com/articles/paradox-reveals-victoria-3-a-long-awaited-sequel-to-a-grand-strategy-series
For everything else...
CAVEAT: Everything I saw was very work-in-progress. Anything could change, especially specific numbers.
KEY: This is a simulation. It's not a map painter. Military conquest is not the main focus. Victoria 3 is more about diplomatic maneuvering, shaping your society and laws, building and industrializing your economy, and "tending the garden" of your nation.
1836 - 1936.
4 ticks per day, so the number of ticks per campaign is similar to EU4.
The map is divided into States and Provinces. There are about 730 States at game start, which are the smallest unit you will interact with for purposes of politics and economics.
It's possible to split existing states, such as when you demand a Treaty Port in a war or Diplomatic Play. This creates a new State that is only one Province in size. Even at game start there are some cases of having more than one State, gameplay-wise, within a single "State Area."
Provinces are subdivisions that you usually only interact with for maneuvering armies and when colonizing (which is done one Province at a time as you add more Provinces to your Colonial State), and there are roughly the same number of individual Provinces as in HoI4. (According to Google, that's around 13,000 - roughly 18 Provinces per State on average.)
Visually, urbanization will spread across individual Provinces within a State.
The pre-alpha map we saw looks better than HoI4 but worse than CK3/Imperator. They did say specifically that it isn't done yet. You can definitely zoom in further than HoI4, so I'd say the map overall feels bigger than the HoI4 map. Zoomed all the way out it looks very similar to the Vicky 2 paper map. Zoomed in you can see realistic clouds and stuff drifting over the landscape. Railroads are visible.
Well over 100 playable countries, but not all countries are playable. Most of Africa, parts of inner South America, and a few surviving native tribes in North America (including the Lakota, Dakota, and Cree) were not playable. These are "Decentralized Countries." Post-launch, they want to make them playable eventually. But they want to do them right because the gameplay experience should be significantly different. All the Decentralized Countries have names and governments. There are no "uncolonized" provin
Another post on here reminded me of this one.
Quite some time ago, my girlfriend and I (now my wife of more than 15 years) moved in together, and had to set up all the things. Cable, internet, phone, etc. We got our home phone number, our 2 cell phones, and we were off to the races.
Almost immediately, we start getting calls for an establishment that does custom framing and various other art-related things. Let's call them "Expo for Art." Of course, we had caller ID, and we had friends that would call us, but inevitably if we didn't recognize the number it was someone wanting to find out if their order was complete, or their frame was done, of what their hours were, or any of a thousand other questions.
I'm sure anyone else who had had this happen will recognize this exchange.
"Sorry, that's no longer their number, this is a residence."
"Yes I'm sure"
"No I'm not giving you my address."
"No I don't know their new number."
"Yes I have a phone book, but so do you."
Eventually, after a thousand of these, and changing the message on our answering machine to say "This is not, I repeat not, Expo for Art. If you are trying to reach Expo for Art, please hang up, look up their number, and try that, because we aren't them."
Eventually, I got my gazillionth call, and I asked the person on the other end of the line where they keep getting this number. "Well it's printed on my receipt. I guess I'll just call this other number." Any chance you can give me that one? Thanks.
I call it.
"Hello, Expo for Art."
"You guys are still giving out my home phone number on your receipts."
"Well, fucking stop it. It's been at least a year since you haven't had that number. At least cross it out or something."
"That's a pain in the ass, I'm not making my employees do that."
"So you're the manager?"
"I'm the owner."
"So let me see if I have this right. You, what was your name again?"
Let's call him Fred.
"You, Fred have decided that it's too inconvenient to cross my home phone number off of your receipts, so you're just going to keep giving it out?"
"Yup. What are you gonna do? Sue me?"
"Whatever. I've got shit to do. Bye."
I called a lawyer. Didn't really have a leg to stand on.
I went to the store and asked for Fred. "Fred's not here. He's hardly ever here, really. You want me to call him?"
"No, I'm fine. I know this is going to sound odd, but is there any chance I can see one of your receipts?"

Every time we play Catan, I know I'm going to spend the next hour+ thinking about all of the ways I could be having more fun, like jamming a rusty ice pick up my urethra. I've never had even a little bit of fun while playing it, and I cannot for the life of me see why people like it.
The reason I keep sitting through it is because everyone else in my game group absolutely adores Catan. And as much as I try to only bring bangers to the table, I'm sure that they've all sat through one or two of my games that they didn't enjoy. I mean, I can't stand one of the most beloved games in the hobby, it's not that crazy to think they didn't like my games.
So that got me thinking, what about you /r/boardgames? What games does the community gush over that just make you think "I'd rather play nothing than play that"?
