The second season/book for Outlander takes place during 1744-1745 and in it British aristocrats and even an army officer are shown as visiting France from Great Britain with the full knowledge of the respective governments for purposes of personal business such as arranging marriages. Is this something that did happen or could’ve realistically happened even though Great Britain and France were at war during this period?
