MNM candidate Padma Priya says that the first time kids hear about caste is on their school forms. Herein, you know the பார்ப்பன-Brahminical nature of their anti-caste politics: it is a politics of "let us move on from caste, right now!" Where does this arise?
For one, Kamal's reverence of Bharathi as the ultimate reading on caste, Bharathi who despite his many charms also had escapist caste politics, is an interesting representation of this. On realizing caste-privilege guilt, it is a response of wanting to escape it. So they say, if we could declare caste annihilated and move on to the next issue, it is so much more comfortable for us.
So, when Bharathi writes,
சாம்பல் நிறத்தொரு குட்டி,
கரும் சாந்தின் நிறம் ஓரு குட்டி
பாம்பின் நிறமொரு குட்டி
வெள்ளை பாலின் நிறம் ஓரு குட்டி
...he only says, "come on, we're different, but we can coexist." So, I imagine Kamal thinks Bharathi's சாதி மறுப்பு (caste opposition) is radical in Kamal's own பார்ப்பன (Brahminical) ignorance and is thus weak on any means to his intended ends. He is disconcerted with social inequality and decries it as appalling, but thinks that we just need to convince everyone to not be casteist. It's a politics that through omission or misprioritization (1) erases the material and physical benefits associated with caste privilege and (2) does not want to redistribute wealth or opportunity to change that material inequality. It is almost like he believes that (1) caste is only in the head and (2) will be annihilated just from social change.
That's why, if you read Bharathi closer, you know his troubling subconscious and that the same Bharathi lets slip, describing the poverty of his Brahmin father,
So, Bharathi laments about how the physical labor forced by modern poverty destroyed the knowledgable பார்ப்பான் குலம் (Brahmin race) in the கலியுகம் (Kali Yug, the rotten era).
In fact, Bharathi's writing directly reiterates Manu and the varna system. Therein, he seems more interested in perceiving all castes and their associated labor as valuable rather than in breaking the hereditary inheritance of occupation and class. So, he writes that the entrepreneurial Chetty, the just, ruling Naicker, and the genius Brahmin all do their part, are all the same, and that without either kind of w... keep reading on reddit ➡
Just remembered Vijaykanth's canvassing where he hit his candidate - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2qxYuIAz2g. I'm not sure if Kamal threw the torchlight on somebody, but he seems to be speaking to someone inside the van and throws the light in the same direction.
