Want to get into Judo, having a hard time finding a club near me, could use some help

I live in the Omaha area (which is one of the largest cities in the US, mind you) and between google, yelp, and dojo.info I found 6 Judo clubs, three make me nope out of their website (serious focus on kids or a kid black belt), and three I just don't know about.

First place: It's nice that they have 3 hours of class a week for adults, but they have over 8 hours of class for kids, which makes me think the adults are much less important, which is a problem because I'm in my 20s. And they teach Judo and TKD and don't even list on their schedule what class is what.

Second place: 1 hour of kids Judo, 2 hours of adult Judo, and 2 hours of something called "competition Judo", which I'm guessing is just open mat time? They also seem to have a lot of students doing really well in regional Judo tournaments, but a lot of those students are under 10 and most of their pictures are of kids.

Third place: this one frustrates me the most. They actually list their price on their website! That's awesome! They have a flat rate, so I can do any of their other classes (which they have quite a few) without paying more! But they have 2 hours of Judo a week. They're mostly about MMA so they have BJJ and Muay Thai, and they have at least 3 hours of BJJ and 2 hours of MT a day. That would be great if I wanted to do BJJ but I wanted to do Judo! My only hope is that the four hours a week of "BJJ roll" is open mat time and it's cool for the Judo students to go.

I've already checked, USJF doesn't have anything in my state and for some reason the club finder on the USJA's website won't work for me.

So, does anyone have any ideas of what I should ask before I start making calls/driving to places to them check out?

Also, for some reason Yelp lists a gymnastics school as teaching martial arts. Way to go Yelp, you're living up to all of my hopes and dreams for you

No Krav school anywhere near me, but I will be going to one once I move in a year or so, so the question is: if I'm going to do EITHER Judo or boxing right now, which one should it be?

I was just wondering which one would dovetail better into Krav once I started doing it, and which one was really more practical for self-defense. I would think Judo, because I've always heard "never punch to the head in an actual fight, you'll break your hand" and that's precisely what boxing teaches you to do, though it would be a great way to learn stance, movement, and just getting used to and dealing with being hit.

My only problem with Judo is that it seems to heavily rely on your opponent wearing a shirt sturdy enough for you to grab and throw him with, hence the old joke: "What's a judoka's worst nightmare? A shirtless opponent." 'Har har har' and everything, but there does seem to be some truth in that. Having watched waaay too many fight videos on youtube I've noticed that a lot of the time at least one participant in the fight isn't wearing a shirt, and frequently they're wearing something that doesn't seem like it would be sturdy enough to throw them by, like a tank top or t-shirt.

Thoughts?

Crosstrain Jujistu and BJJ?

I do a small bit of BJJ and really enjoy it. I also started "Japanese" jujitsu as well as I liked the traditional/defense style of it. Such as the stand-up joint locks, strikes to vitals and knife defence. However after 4 weeks I'll have to get the whole Gi/membership package. So I want to make the decision on whether to continue with the jjj. The thing is that I don't want to drop bjj as I think its really something special and fun. So my question is: Is jjj worth doing as a whole and is it worthwhile to do both jjj and BJJ?

My aim is more for fun, fitness and sport rather than 100% self defence. (although it doesn't hurt to know it.)

A good feedback/explantion would be greatly appreciated as opposed to a one line answer.

Thanks.

EDIT

I really appreciate all the replies and advice i'm getting. I will definitely leave the jujitsu as it is a one user described a "modern offshoot style" made by the owner when he set up his own school. And because it's not really the sporty/fitness style I'm looking for.

There doesn't actually seem to be any Judo near me. So I'll stick with the BJJ and maybe a bit of MMA striking from the same BJJ club.

[SURVIVAL GUIDE] You're gonna be rich af soon, and that poses dangers you need to be aware of.

Inspired by /u/BlakeClass 's orignal post on what to do when you win the lottery. Hard reality is, we're gonna be rich as fuck, which legitimately puts quite a few of us in danger, if not from family, then from people who'll get a whiff of it.

First, go and read Blake's post, because it goes into detail on how being wealthy seriously impacts your health. I'll tell you right not, there'll be a few apes who are going to OD on cocaine, and there are going to be some who crash their lambos into lampposts and die, and there are gonna be some that will be targeted by less wealthier, envious individuals. This is serious, you're about to have an amount of money that people will kill for - literally. Fucking prepare yourself!

Right now, you might be unemployed (like me) or struggling to run a business with sales suffering from the pandemic, or you might even live on the streets, with nothing but public wifi to keep you in the know on your 1 GME share - point is, we're all in the same boat. We have problems now, but they will amount to nothing after the squeeze. Like I said, when people figure out you have money, they'll fucking hound you for it. Friends will appear out of nowhere, and "business opportunities" will be rife.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

>Lesson 1. Your life now, is going to be completely different after the squeeze, you'll be doing things you never thought possible, and you'll have obligations you didn't even know existed. You need to start preparing for the unknown.

I live in a fairly large village, it's a still a village, but it's a big one, and I can comfortably walk to the store without a bother, I might see somebody I know, say hello, but I can right now walk to the store, buy things and come back without a single problem. However, after I have wealth, and people figure out I have wealth, people will come up to me and ask for money, eyes will be on me, people will want my attention, I'm usable to them now, if they can somehow get to me, maybe I can give them money and help them realise their own dreams. In the day it will become a nuisance, but at night - it becomes a threat. On a night, it's easier to get away with a crime, you can run down an alley, and be gone from sight in seconds, similarly, there are less people around to see a crime

New to martial arts, thinking Judo.

So I've been wanting to get into martial arts for a long time now. I'm 22 years old, and 6'2, 160 pounds in case that matters. I work out pretty regularly so I'm in decent shape, although would like to get some weight on given my height.

In college I took an aikido class, but quickly realized it's... controversial teachings. I'm thinking Judo is the best for self defense in case someone grabs you and you can't get away. I also would like to get into practicing MMA in the long run. I really enjoyed Aikido but would like to get into a martial art that is more combative.

There is a Judo school near me and taught by a former Olympic silver medalist so I figure this place is legit.

Any advice on starting Judo or any tips on how I should prepare myself?

Thanks!

"Mundane" Fighters are Actually Pretty Cool

Casters typically outweigh martials, especially at higher levels. Even among martials, people tend to lean towards the more magical side like paladins or eldritch knights, but I feel like there isn't enough talk about how cool some of the mundane subclasses of the fighters are even at high levels. Mechanically and flavor-wise, I feel like WOTC really hit the mark on a lot of these.

Cavalier: Did you know that the cavalier's 15th level feature, "Ferocious Charger", has no size limit nor does it say that the attack has to be melee? Yea, you can run 10 feet, put your momentum into a javelin toss, and drop a dragon from the sky. Granted, you do need to succeed on both an attack roll and a Strength check, but you can attempt this reasonably well every turn. And, Cavalier's 18th level ability gives them unlimited attacks of opportunity. Combined with Sentinel and Polearm Master, enemies really can't do anything near you. Go into range, get hit, go out of range, get hit, move within range, get hit, hit an ally, get hit. AND, if you land this attack, not only is their movement set to 0, they now have disadvantage on any target other than you!

Samurai: Most people reading the Samurai's abilities probably put together the obscene amount of attacks they can make in a turn, but they usually don't figure out that Swift Strike's second attack actually also has advantage if you used fighting spirit that turn, since the advantage is only removed for one attack. But the most badass ability is their 18th level ability, and it actually does more than just give them another turn when they are about to die. No, not only do they get a FULL turn, they straight up INTERRUPT the current turn. That cocky dragon that thought they could hit you and run away? Naw, it's your turn now. That solar that was relying on their massive movement speed and legendary action teleport? It's in 10 pieces now, even legendary actions don't activate in time.

Battlemasters: This one is actually pretty popular and gets the love it deserves, but I'm going to gush about it anyway because it's so dang cool. It has so much more than just trip attack. One of my favorite builds was actually an unarmed battlemaster. Unarmed attacks count as melee weapon attacks, and you can do everything from feint, counter, parry, or go for a grapple. There's so much flavor you can put into each of these, even if they're suboptimal. Flavoring things like lunging attack as some long range TaeKwonDo kick or a pushing attack

An entitled mother tried to assault me and her daughter saved me from the cops!!!

I'm 16 and I'm a huge Sonic fan. I have mental health problems such as depression and suicidal thoughts but Sonic has always put a smile on my face. This happened back in April of 2020. In the UK covid really hit around late March and many people I knew were infected. The only good thing that year was I got to see the Sonic Movie twice before Covid shut down cinemas. So I bought a Sonic Face mask from the Sega shop online in the UK and I got a lot of praise telling me how cool it was. One person didn't like the fact that I had it.

I went out one day cause I was on a small diet and I fancied some Zero Sugar Pink Lemonade so I went to ASDA. As I'm trying to find it I hear a little kid

"Wow that's so cool! I love your mask"

I look down and see a 7 year old girl and I smile under the mask which was pointless cause she couldn't see it.

"Yeah I know right? Its awesome. You can get it for £10 mostly £8 but £2 for delivery"

Which that £2 actually goes to a charity that makes face masks.

"Cool alright see ya gotta go fast!"

And the little girl runs back to her mother making me super happy that she said those words "gotta go fast" anyway I continue my shopping. Only a minute later I hear a loud "Ahem!" And I ignore it thinking someone was trying to get an employee's attention until I felt a strong hand on my shoulder making me turn quite violently.

"You! I've been trying to ask you something for 3 minutes you R word I hate hearing it"

I stood in shock cause another thing to mention i hate being forcefully moved by strangers if they simply tapped my shoulder I wouldn't have minded but nope this crazy a**hole had to spin me forcefully.

"My daughter wants your mask! Give!"

She put out her hand as if she was expecting me to give it to her so I reply:

"I'm sorry but this is my mask. I bought it with my own money I can't ju-"

"Oh shut up you f*cking gay fag" she called me this cause of my pink hair and I think she assumed I was gay which I'm not btw.

I see the sweet little girl telling her mother "mommy I don't want his mask I want one that is his on a website he got the mask from..."

Then the mother goes "I'M NOT PAYING £10 FOR A STUPID MASK!!!" Me being the smart ass I am I went

"But you are paying about...£100 on 9 bottles of wine?"

I saw her trolley and saw it nearly full of alcohol. This made her angrier and she even tried to punch me cause I looked older and was freakishly tall but the thing is I quit Judo bout 5 years ago and have played

My 90 Day Itinerary

Hello there friends! So, with all fingers crossed and good luck hopefully on my and the world's side to have COVID lessen a bit here in the coming months, I'm planning a 90 day trip to Japan with my brother in September! We originally had this planned for April-June, but seeing as nothing officially has been stated, we thought it'd be best to shoot for Fall.

I would LOVE advice, recommendations, etc! For the sake of brevity, I won't be listing an EXTREMELY detailed goings-on for each day, but will give a good idea of what we plan to do. Also, a note, I plan on exploring places to eat, so won't list those unless it's something really worth mentioning, but if there's a place I HAVE to try, please let me know! :)

TOKYO /// Sep 2nd: Arrive in Haneda, get through the airport, and arrive at our hotel. We plan to go to a conbini, play "Onigiri Bingo" (from Abroad in Japan in which we choose a random onigiri) and hopefully sleep off the jetlag.

Sep 3rd: Birthday! Starting off, for me, I chose to spend the day in Akihabara. Get some ramen @ Ramen Fukuro. Super Potato and Animate, along with Mandarake are on my list to go to and see and shop a bit. Potentially go to a Maid Cafe if things are "normal".

Sep 4th: Asakusa, do a street food sampling, go to Sensoji temple in the afternoon and explore the city. At night, go to an Izakaya to snack and get some drinks. We're specifically looking at Shochan.

Sep 5th: Shibuya, See the scramble crossing, go to the top of Shibuya sky, and end the day at Center Gai and/or Niko-Yokocho

Sep 6th: Nakano, get as much cheap food as we can (we plan this one to be a bit more spontaneus and just try what looks good) and visit Mandarake. Ultimately, a foodie stop with some anime/manga on the side.

Sep 7th: Shinjuku, See some of the arcades, explore Kabukicho with spontaneity on the mind, potentially go to WARP club to end night

Sep 8th: Odaibo, Get some ramen from wherever looks good, visit Diver City, and end day with Oeda Onsen.

Sep 9th: Harajuku, fashion shopping, specifically for sneakers, check out some of the anime and manga shops and check out their crazy sweets like the giant cotton candy

Sep 10th: Ueno, visit Korea Town for food. Explore the Ameyeko market.

Sep 11th: Yokohama, Cup Nooodle Museum, Cosmo World, general shopping

Sep 12th: Rest day. To recoup, may wander around near hotel and hit up a Lawsons, but nothing planned.

Sep 13th: Ikebukuro, Anime and game shop around, end day with visit to Sunshine City.

Is judo appropriate for teachers?

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a quick story and ask a question. I’m a high school teacher and broke up my first student fight today that required me to be hands on. The student in question was in a near blind rage and if I didn’t deescalate him could have been capable of serious harm.

The experience has made me reflect on just how thin the line is between violence occurring or not.

What I was wondering is whether judo would be the optimal martial art to learn to both protect myself and to be able to safely restrain other people in an emergency?

Thank you for any advice.

Self defence tips thread

I keep hearing about all these attacks on us and I wanted to share some self defence tips I picked up from my judo sensei back when I did it in school - I’m in no way an expert, but what he told me always made sense to me because (1) everything suggested below is precipitated by the assumption that you can’t de-escalate or run away, and (2) I cover roles for yourself & for bystanders.

Anyways I’m a bit hesitant to share this but I welcome actual experts to comment their insights below, and hopefully this can help prevent some bad stuff in the future for all of you.

————

So first of all, these attacks are almost always precipitated by verbal, racist insults and they are entirely designed to pull you into a confrontation with a prepared aggressor - so you need to think about a couple things:

  1. Firstly, make a conscious effort to be more aware on the street. I usually listen to music but lately I’ve stopped because awareness buys you time to react, and time buys you options.

  2. Can you de-escalate the situation by physically leaving? Many times you can’t because the attacks have been happening in tight spaces so you may have to stand your ground. Maybe you can use your words and talk sense or ultimatums.

  3. If you can’t talk sense or feel that this person is 100% aggression, make sure you communicate that you are not to be fucked with. Your attitude has to be determined, and your body language has to reflect somebody who is in charge of the situation. You don’t have to swear or be fast in your replies - you have ultimate power if you make them wait. Do not ever let them take you to a 2nd location, even if you are being threatened at that moment (that’s usually the cue to begin fighting for your life).

If words turn to fighting, then here’s what to think about:

  • You gotta know ahead of time if you have anything worthwhile in a fight - perhaps you are large / strong, or have trained before etc - but if you aren’t, that’s ok just admit it and create a basic plan around your current capabilities.

  • If you can’t fight, run. It is a perfectly good option and what I will likely do. If you can fight or have to fight, you need to think about how you will respond and whether you intend to use force multipliers ahead of time.

I personally do not like firearms, but I do think that carrying brass knuckles is a safer alternative that might add an edge to your defence. The problem with any force multiplier is that you really need to be trained on how they ar

Being "jailbait" is not sexy. You're not "mature" for dating a much older person. Your elders have failed to protect you.

People in positions of authority should do more to protect the people who count on them. I mean, obviously, right? But this is specifically about Teachers and their students. One teacher in particular for me.

Here goes.
When I was 13, my sister got a new camera. She wanted to be a photographer. This was before the days of Facebook, IG, Myspace. Most of us just had an AOL account and a Livejournal, maybe MSN instead of AIM. Whatever.
We'd just dyed my hair red. I was a pale and petite thing. She dressed me in her prom dress, which was sleek and black and flowy that hugged my budding curves and made me feel like a vampire-princess. We went out to the garden in the yard and she took pictures of me holding dead roses. I felt beautiful for the first time in my life.
I showed those pictures to some of my online friends, who were older, and I didn't understand that they might want things from me other than conversations. I'd never kissed a boy before. I still thought sex was some weird 69 thing that involved pee. My friends online didn't press too much, but I remember them calling me "jailbait" and being told that was a compliment. I remember suddenly getting more attention from the guys in my group. I remember one of them asking me to "save myself for him."

When I was 14, I went to the local youth fair. I was wearing those Brazilian jeans that were in style, with a corset top, and a white t-shirt under it. A boy who was working one of the rides came over and started to flirt with me. He told me he was 18, I told him I was 14. He said I seemed older, more mature. I was flattered. I blushed, and I gave him my number. Within a week, he was texting me to ask "how far will you go with me?" I said, "I have to ask my mom, but probably to the end of the block so I don't get lost."

When I was 15, I saw a movie where a middle school girl was dating a college boy. The narrative was that she was this really cool, really mature girl that all her peers wanted to be just like. That summer, I met a 19 year old on a cruise ship, it turned out he lived in my area. We exchanged numbers. We went to see a movie together when we got back. He snuck alcohol in, and I drank some. He told me I was sexy. He put his hand down my shirt, and it was cold. I hated it, but I wanted him to like me and he said this was what people did on dates.

When I was 16, I moved out of state to a small island town in California's bay area. I started taking Judo/Jiujitsu which

I want to go back to judo but I’m kind of embarrassed...

I started judo last October and tried it for a while but got busy because of my part time job. I told Sensei I was coming back near December and January because I quit my job but I ran out of money to be able to go. There’s also this mma guy there that acted inappropriately with me when I went to his mma dojo and he trains at the judo dojo regularly. Sometimes Sensei pairs us up with the black belts and the mma guy is a black belt so I really don’t want to be paired up with him. Basically he touched me near my bum and upper thighs when he was showing a technique and he asked me out for dinner (I thought it was a group dinner but it was just him) and asked inappropriate questions and comments about my romantic relationships and sexuality (female, lesbian and with a gf).

So I really don’t know what to tell Sensei. Should I tell him that so and so was being unprofessional and not to be paired up with him? Should I also mention my absence was due to financial reasons and avoiding that guy? I don’t want drama in the dojo but I really just want to train and participate in tournaments. FYI I’m in Osaka, Japan.

My DD on Palantir.

Normally I don’t do this kind of thing, but I’ve had far too much wine, just enough weed, and I’m feeling kinda jolly this evening, so let me spit some knowledge for my fellow Retards about everyone’s favorite eye in the sky these days: Palantir. Demo Day is coming on Jan 26th, and leading up to that will be a buying opportunity, because Palantir’s is 🚀going 🚀to 🚀the 🍆fuckin’ 🌖moon, boys. Get your helmets on, and strap in. This 🚀rocket’s about to blast off.

Palantir’s pretty well-established in the Data Analytics community with Big Government contracts pouring money into it's R&D projects. You don’t need to turn a profit when the Government uses you for their skunkworks dept. Especially this early on the explosion of industry that is Surveillance.

Speaking of surveillance... let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we. Y’all remember Barack Obama, right? Tan suit? Dijon mustard? The guy who wrote annual Presidential Executive Orders declaring a continued State of National Emergency that brought us the NSA cell phone bullshit, along with all the other erosions of our privacy we are now totally accustomed to, and largely gave us the rise of Mass Surveillance? Turns out, ol' Barry had some pretty colorful characters working for him. One of those characters was this total badass named Avril Haines.

If you don’t know about her, you should. Again, because she’s a badass. Studied Judo in Japan, apparently became bored with that at some point and casually studied theoretical physics at University of Chicago. Somehow that wasn’t exciting enough for her, so in her down time, she ended up buying a used-up, junk-ass Cessna airplane, and rebuilt the avionics herself. Once that little weekend project was completed, she tried to fly across the Atlantic Ocean and crash-landed near the Newfoundland coast. No shit. I mean, who does that?! A badass judo hobbyist who dabbles in theoretical physics, that’s who. Now, she did crash, yes, but: her co-pilot ended up falling in love and wife’in the shit out of her. I mean, can you blame the guy? They cuddled for awhile and opened up a little bookstore in the ghetto of Baltimore, hoping the danger of a drug riddled city could hold her lust for excitement and adventure. Shocker: it

UFC 260 Fight Predictions

Hello!

I hope you're all doing well!

This is the last event until I have a much needed one week break, I haven't had the best record this year, i'm currently at 54.8% accuracy and it kinda sucks. But, with that said, I will warn you all now. There are some controversial predictions for this event. You guys know me, sometimes I hit these controversial picks on the head, other times i look like a complete dickhead, but that's just me, and i'll never change that, I could go as low as 40% accuracy and still think of stupid shit, but that's not stupidity, no, that's MMA.

Onto the fights eh?

(c) - Champ

(D/DWCS) - Debut/Dana Whites' Contender Series

FLS - Fight Lose Streak

FWS - Fight Win Streak

NS - No Streak

(#x) - Rank in Division

(x/3) - Confidence levels

Lets go!

Prelims

Welterweight

Jared Gooden (+175) (17-5-0, NS) v Abubaker Nurmagomedov (-225) (15-3-1, NS) - An interesting start to this insane card. Gooden is coming off a tough loss against the veteran Alan Jouban. It was a highly competitive bout, Gooden very early on managed to deal significant damage on Jouban but the adjustment between round 1 and 2 was the game changer and Gooden just couldn’t keep up blow for blow, he couldn’t check those leg kicks, he couldn’t adjust his game plan. I hope Gooden has since then adapted to the competition in the UFC because Jouban is not an easy debut at all. Gooden is very well rounded, he has heavy hands and great wrestling, but with only one fight (albeit a very competitive bout) in the UFC, it’s very hard to judge what is going to happen. Gooden got tested on the feet in his debut, and with his second chance at a win in the UFC, he’s facing a vicious and high pace wrestler in Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov is in similar shoes to Gooden, in that his debut was a loss and we didn’t really see too much of him. It is fairly safe to say that Nurmagomedov is a high pressure wrestler, someone who maintains excellent control on the ground and just stays heavy. This is all pure speculation, but considering he trained under the same gym that Khabib trained at back in Russia, under his fathers (uncle in this case) wing, then we can somewhat expect a similar gameplan, pressure, push his opponent against the cage, then wrestle. His loss was just one of those things where he got caught in a submission, and I don’t think Gooden is good enough to defend the submission acumen of the Nurmagomedov smesh-style. So, at the moment, I’m leaning on Nurm

Need help to do a flip? As you wish

I was recently reminiscing with a friend, and remembered this little story, that might fit on this subreddit.

When I was about 12 years old, my mom used to put me in a martial arts class near our house, cause she needed to work. It was Judo, and since all age groups were mixed, and the class was too small to really split up, we often had the kids do an hour, and just watch while the adults did their hour. The teachers meant well, and you learnt a lot by watching the older students train. Anyways, we had two teachers, the master and his highest ranking apprentice. Master had a son, Michael, who attended all lessons, since he needed to babysit him anyway. He was about 2 years older than me.

One day my mom called me to tell me she can't get me at the usual time, and I should stay an hour longer. This happened frequently so no biggie. Michael and I were the only kids today so we grew bored quickly. To shut us up, master put a soft big mattress in a corner of the gym, and told us to just slide it around or jump on it or something. You know the ones, about half a meter thick, really soft and bouncy. We complied and hopped around for a while. Out of boredom I started doing rolls and flips, because why not. Michael was apparently not a fan of that, and try as he might he just couldn't do a flip. After some sulking he got really angry at me, told me to stop flipping around and showing off. Since he's the teachers son, of course I stopped. He jumped and fussed but he just couldn't get Tha height to completely flip, always landing on his back.

After many failed attempts Michael got a bright idea. Why not flip from the side of the mattress onto the floor. It was about 50 cm from the ground, that should work, right? But he hesitated. Kinda high for a jump onto floorboards huh?

Then he ordered me to help me. How, you ask? Well I should hold his hand, so he has something to hold on to when he falls. I said that will never work, cause his hand won't rotate. Hell rotate it he says. You'll hurt yourself I say. 14 year old brain does not compute and he threatened to tell his dad I hit him if I don't do it.

Can't argue with that, so I gripped his hand tightly, sitting on my knees on the mattress. He was standing at the edge of the mattress, gathering all his strength for one mighty jump. And jump he did.

To his credit he actually did a front flip and landed on his feet. He couldn't savour his victory though because while he did a front flip, his tightly gripped arm,

How Would You Approach A Sambo Tournament?

Hey guys,

It looks like there's a Sambo tournament near me in a couple months (North Carolina). I'm a purple, hopefully brown in a month or so. I wrestled in high school and did Judo for about a decade. I would describe myself as good but nothing special in those context. I'm mostly a dirty guard puller these days.. My passing and pins are good but my real strength is open guard. What tactics would you use to get the match to your strengths. I know there's no strangles or twisting leg locks. I use mostly straight ankles and knee bars from ash garamis anyway. Could I always just focus more on the armbar from the triangle positions and call it an armbar? I dont really have any expectations going into the tournament. I just like competing and anything in states around me has been few and far between since last year.

In honor of Akira Kurosawa's birthday, all of his films ranked

I got this list done with 30 minutes to spare, phew. I plan on turning this into a youtube video, let me know if you guys would be interested in watching something like this! Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit but I couldn't really think of where else to put it. r/movies seems to only be about news for upcoming movies.

#30 - Sanshiro Sugata Part Two

This sequel to Kurosawa’s very first film is by far his most uninspired film. It’s possibly the only one that I would say toes the line of actually being bad. Sugata 2 exists partly as a propaganda film which declares the physical and spiritual superiority of the Japanese near the tail end of WWII, partly as a watered down sequel to the original. I don’t have an inherent problem with the propaganda, but in the case of this movie it’s tiresome and thick. The Judo fights are hard to enjoy as well because they don’t carry the same weight that they did in the original. The final showdown in the vast snowy landscape is great, though.

#29 - The Quiet Duel

The Quiet Duel is so disappointing because the groundwork for it is so wonderful, and there are so many things to love about it. The opening sequence, the chemistry between Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura, the shot compositions, even the story itself is. The Quiet Duel is meant to depict the internal struggle of the protagonist who has contracted Syphilis because he performed a surgery with an open wound on an infected patient during the war. Having never experienced the pleasure of a woman and being engaged to a woman he loves for six years, he continues to live a torturous life. He must reject his fiance, he must be celibate, and because of his shame he must keep it a secret. If it sounds like a slow burn, it is, and that would be a fine thing if the film leaned into it. Unfortunately the so-called Quiet Duel erupts into a melodramatic scene which is meant to culminate the cloaked struggle but actually undermines it with the only poor Mifune performance I’ve ever seen. The outburst spits in the face of the drama rather than uplifting it, making the film unfortunately ineffective.

#28 - The Most Beautiful

If Sugata part 2 is part propaganda film, The Most Beautiful is all propaganda. The film depicts a group of young girls, workers in a Japanese optics factory, and their unfaltering devotion to their work. They demand an increase in productivity because they feel the social obligation to help the Japanese cause in the war and they work tirelessly t

President Arayik during a meeting with locals: there are many conversations and rumors. I want you to know exactly what happened. The opponent wanted to take Karmir Shuka (south) at any cost. Thanks to you and our boys, we were able to preserve it. Yes, part of the area (south of Karmir Shuka) was lost, but the rest was saved. For a long time, they wanted it, but we said "forget Karmir Shuka".

We are going to involve additional construction crews here. Artsakh will see widespread construction within the next 3-4 years. 150 houses will be built in Karmir Shuka.

##former regime continues the rallies on Baghramyan Avenue / GCoS deadline

A group of former military officials and allies gathered in front of the Defense Ministry to show support for GCoS Onik Gasparyan, who could soon be fired unless President Sarkissian challenges Pashinyan's decision in the Constitutional Court.

Among the gathered was the president of Bar Association Ara Zohrabyan. He said "President Sarkissian has 3 days to decide whether to challenge the firing of Onik Gasparyan, which means the deadline is on Sunday, but it has to be a weekday, so the deadline is automatically moved to Monday, but since Monday the 8th is a holiday, the actual deadline is Tuesday the 9th."

The Onik's supporters then marched to Baghramyan Street to join the rally organized by the former regime. Co-organizer ARF Gegham praised their youth wing for "strength and determination" during the protests and that "they are patriots and love their history." The platform was given to young participants who gave speeches.

ARF Ishkhan said they've been occupying Baghramyan Avenue for over a week now because it's an important hub that hosts the Parliament, President's, and Constitutional Court buildings. "Our future depends on the decision of these 3 structures." They don't plan to move out of Baghramyan Avenue.

Vazgen Manukyan remains convinced that snap elections cannot be held now, and that Pashinyan should resign first, a new government must be formed for a year, before elections can be held. Manukyan called for patience while waiting for President Sarkissian's decision whether to challenge GCoS Onik's firing

Interesting differences between Annie and Eren you may notice if you have some martial arts knowledge.

Both are solid, versatile fighters, but they have kind of a different taste in stand up and ground game.

Annie resembles a classic Muay Thai fighter, high stance, and a huge emphasis on kicking (kicks score higher in MT and are much more devastating than fists. Makes sense, a small girl will never have nearly the same punching power as a guy, so she has to use the most powerful techniques available, without wasting time and energy.

She works with kicks on all three levels: high, middle, and low. Textbook Muay Thai form btw, nice job Isayama.

She also uses elbows which is again, a much more powerful and far less fragile weapon than a fist, though there's obvious downside in reach compared to a whole arm.

Eren on the other hand is more of a boxer by spirit. He punches, evades, counters with fists and rarely kicks at all. His favorite weapons are hooks and overhands

He seems to be a more of a counter-puncher, both in his fights against Reiner and Armin as well.

I'm not nearly as well versed in grappling as standup, In fact I'm a filthy casual in ground game, but even I notice that Annie prefers clinch judo throws with immediate transition to immobilize her opponent, no waste of effort.

Here: low kick -> o soto gari throw -> arm triangle -> you're fucked.

Again: throw -> gun in mouth -> done). (If somebody is a judoka here, please tell me the name of the throw)

With grappling though, unlike Annie, Eren seems to actually prefer guard game, or newaza as it's called in judo. He's using various submissions and sweeps and seems to be pretty comfortable working from the bottom.

Reiner makes a very stupid mistake, jumping right into Eren's dangerous guard in their first fight with a double leg takedown, which was exactly what Eren wanted and it allowed him to immediately lock-in a guillotine choke. If Bert wasn't t

Joining a boxing gym vs. judo

I moved to a new area and was really excited to join a martial arts gym, which I’d be wanting to do for a while, and then COVID hit. Well, getting my vaccine today, so I am excited to pick this up again.

I’ve always been especially interested in judo and boxing. I found two gyms near me and both seem fantastic all around. High quality instruction, professional (this to my untrained eye, mind you). Both are also good in terms of location and price. The instructors at both seem to be of high caliber.

I DO plan on doing a trial class at both.

I plan on going to class 2x a week. My main goals are fitness and learning a proper self defense technique.

Taking into mind my goals, and that I will be going to a trial class.....just curious what else or points you all think I should look for in making my decision?

Descent of the Demon Lords: Part 12

First/ Previous/ Next

Staggering forward as adrenaline soared throughout his body, Pickard dodged to the side quickly, avoiding the rugby tackle of the first orderly. He swiftly followed up by grabbing the orderly’s head and yanking it down, the momentum of their tackle easily bringing his lower body well past where Pickard had the head. As the orderly collapsed in a heap Pickard followed with several quick stomps to the face, neutralizing the threat for now. One down for now, the total time taken was barely two seconds, the practical martial arts of Krav Maga he had been practicing well entrenched into his muscle memory.

Another orderly tried to grab him, but Pickard shuffled back just enough to escape the grip, parrying the lazy grapple attempt with his left hand, to strike at the exposed head hard with his baton. It was drilled into all police recruits, that the baton was to be used sparingly, and a head strike was potentially lethal. James felt a tiny pang, forgotten deep within him for just a moment.

Pickard struck the head again with a loud crack, bone of the skull relenting to the hardened steel and the second orderly dropped with a spray of red mist.

Continuing to move back James had the opening he needed, and sprayed his standard issue CS spray in an arc towards the advancing attackers, the manager yelling something to others in the distance. He got at least one good in the face, the others quickly reacting by raising their arms, covering most, but not all of the irritant brown spray. Taking advantage of the obscured vision, James rushed forward to the closest one, jumping up and catching him on the jaw with a hard flying knee, knocking the orderly out instantly, long before he hit the ground.

Spinning backwards with the baton towards where Pickard thought the next one would be he was taken off guard by thick, bulky arms twisting his arm around to disarm him in an attempted Kimura lock, forcing Pickard to drop his baton. Thinking quickly to stop the Kimura being locked in, James counted with a backward mule kick, getting lucky and buckling one of the knees of the assailant behind him, loosening his grip on James’ arm, and allowing him to shove them both back into the wall, dazing the man grappling him.

The Spartakiade Killer

Hi everyone. I really enjoy the series on African serial killers and decided that I would also like to introduce you to some lesser known serial killers from other countries than just USA/UK/USSR. The Spartakiade killer always fascinated me, partly because he was active in my home-town of Prague and also because of other unusual aspects of the case which I don't want to spoil right away.

Between February 17th and May 16th 1985 the city of Prague in Czechoslovakia was shaken by a series of brutal attacks on women. It was during the preparations for the Spartakiade festival, a communist propaganda event with massive gymnastic numbers performed by thousands of people from all over Czechoslovakia. Because of this, the investigators were under extreme political pressure to solve the case and the perpetrator got the nickname „Spartakiade killer“.

The first known attack occurred around 9 pm on February 17th. Twenty year old Milena was walking through a dark wooded area when she was suddenly knocked to the ground by a stranger. She started talking to him, convinced him that she wants to have sex with him willingly and said that they should go somewhere more comfortable. The man agreed and as they approached a well-lit street, the girl screamed for help, which scared the attacker away. The woman did not report the attack at first, but later investigators found her and she was able to give a good description of the man.

During March, four women were assaulted in a similar fashion but the perpetrator always fled the scene quickly after attacking. One of the women, a judo fighter, even chased after him when he took her purse, but he escaped. The victims described the attacker as very young, but the forensic specialist concluded that due to his strength he must have been between 20 and 25 years old and likely just of short stature.

On April 2nd after midnight, a young boy was approached by an 18 year old nurse named Ludmila at a tram stop. She asked him when the next tram is coming. They struck up a conversation and eventually she accepted his proposal to walk her home. He seemed kind, intelligent and attractive. She even gave him her phone number, but when she tried to enter her apartment building, the boy crossed her path and started touching her. When she protested, he put his arm around her neck from behind. She fainted, but regained consciousness after a while and offered to take the boy to the basement of her building, where they could have sex on a mattress.

STATUS: DEPENDANT SPOUSE-HUMAN CH 11 The Three S Solution

First Chapter Chapter 10 The Jester Who Thought Himself A Knight Chapter 12 He Jumped the Gun (Coming 24/Feb/2021)

Chapter 11- The Three S Solution

Willowby Family Farm, Cherokee County, Kansas, many years ago.

Travis was walking through the woods bow in hand. Grandpa and him were working on a deer drive. Pushing any animal forward through the brush in a hope it would run into his mother who had the rifle. His bow was a compound model. The side mounted quiver was mostly filled with flu flu arrows and blunt Judo points for taking something small, like a rabbit or squirrel or, ugh! a possum, if need be. He only had one arrow that had a broadhead. The bow had belonged to his uncle, who must have forgotten he owned it. Because if he had remembered, he would have pawned it or traded it for Oxy.

Mr. Turner, who owned the farm near his grandpa's, had shown him how to tune it and how to shoot it better. He practiced about two or three hours a day. There was really not much else to do right now.

His mom and him had fled the city and moved back in with her parents when the invasion began. The aliens had struck first on the coast pushing any ground troops inward toward the Rockies and the Appalachians. So far, except for seeing their craft in the sky sometimes, they had yet to take any interest in the Midwest. The joke going around most of the farmers was that even alien invaders didn’t give a crap about the flyover states. So we were being invaded by intergalactic Democrats. Though that wasn’t exactly true. People from as far away as Nebraska claimed they saw the streak in the sky that took out NORAD. Travis wasn’t sure if he had. He did remember seeing the ones that took out McConnell and Whiteman.

The reason they were out here deer hunting out of season was that Grandpa had given his small herd of cattle to the national guard months ago for them to slaughter and eat. This wasn’t so much an act of patriotism as it was hard nosed practicality he had explained, Give them the cattle, and they’ll leave our pantry alone. Grandpa had had an older brother who had fought in Europe during WW2 and said his brother had told him horror stories of what he saw when armies had to “forage”.

As he walked the woods pushing the possible deer forward, Travis came to a small dirt road. He was in

How my wife saved me (financially as well as other tings)

First let me say I am making this post in response to the amazing and overwhelming comments I received as a result of my comment on another post. You guys are all amazing. I waited until my wife was home and she's here with my as I type making sure I don't miss anything and also to fact check when I exaggerate as I have a tendency to do.

TL;DR: I was a middle-class suburban bum who didn't know anything about money and my wife came from nothing and her work ethic and ability to organize money led me to pay off my student loans last week

Now to get an idea of both myself and my wife I'll give you a little background. I came from a typical Middle Class, suburban American family. My mom is a nurse and my dad has done everything from own a chair factory to delivering dental supplies, but we always were pretty well off. This is also partly due to my father's family being very wealthy and allowing him to inherit the money to buy his home with zero mortgage. Financially, I was taught little or nothing growing up, everyone is aware of the lack of financial prep in the US school system, and my family treated money as a sort of "dirty" topic. If you did something for free you were "clean" and "noble" if you did things outright for the pay it was "mercenary" and not considered good. When I was told to look for careers both me and my siblings weren't told "make sure you can make a living and take care of yourselves" but "do what you love, the money doesn't matter" and the classic "money doesn't bring happiness". It took me years to learn that a lack of money can certainly bring UNhappiness.

So, as a result, I found myself making a series of financial mistakes my whole life. Everything from not opening a line of credit (I thought I was "beating the dirty bankers") to develop my credit score, to repeatedly overdrawing my checking account to be hit with $500 overage fees AND additional $25 late on paying the overage fees-fees (Once I owed up to $2000 without realizing and only by pleading with both the bank to reduce it to $1000 and my mom to pay it off did I escape that fiasco). And I never really learned. After moving out of the house I did get used to checking my checking account to make sure I had enough money to pay various bills and rent, though I do remember forgetting a few times and having my water shut off. Long story short I found myself an adult with no career, $80,000+ in student loan debt, and zero idea of how to progress.

Now my wife's story is about as

UPDATE: Sometimes I cry thinking about it

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure where to start. In the past 9-10 days, a lot has come about. So I'm gonna try and make this as short and concise as possible. Here's a like to the original post if you want some context as to why I'm on this sub. https://www.reddit.com/r/survivinginfidelity/comments/lba2m2/sometimes_i_cry_thinking_about_it/

After owning the fact that my ex's cheating was still bothering me, I sought out a therapist who really is a great guy and great at his job. Needless to say, I just unloaded everything I was feeling. The rage for being deceived, the hatred toward her and the guy she cheated with, and the sadness of it all sinking in. I had to come to grips with the fact that the girl I thought I loved, is dead in my mind. And I was mourning a memory of her. Though, my therapy won't just stop here.

I renewed my gym membership and found out they have a new boxing program with a well-known coach in my area. I did a trial run with him, did a few sparring rounds with some of his guys. I fell in love with it. When I was working some combinations on the pads and heavy bag, I got the same feeling of bliss when I met my ex. But. This. Is Different. Though, I realize boxing would never break my heart, but it would break my jaw haha. When I was done for the day, the coach said I was a natural and suggests I sign up.

I'm most likely gonna take him up on it, given how my ex is gone and I'm not saving money for dates and what not. I also confided in that coach for some odd reason and he knows exactly what I'm enduring. I'm not rich by any means, but I've got a little cash to burn on myself for a change. I also resigned up a my old judo club (I'm primarily a grappler but cross trained before).

I'll wrap this up. I'm nowhere near the mental state I need to be in. But these tools that I've discovered are a stepping stone to getting better. I learned, that I can't run from this and ignore. There are some things in life that you have to internally fight. And no one can do it for you but you. I urge everyone please, please, please. Get help, exercise, stay healthy and know its okay to ask for help. Read my last post. Don't try to drown it out, please, learn from my mistakes. Acknowledge it, address it, and every so often fight it.

In case I got a tad long-winded

TL-DR: I sought out help, and I'm tryna pick myself up through martial arts and therapy. Ga

A Mother Like No Other - A Hug A Day Pt. 3

You know, I'm really getting a kick out of writing these. They're so much fun. One idea leads to another, and I just have to write it down. That's kinda sorta what happened here, and I truly hope you enjoy it! Especially you, u/Madturkey55. Here's hoping I do shrimpy justice.

Damn I'm on a roll.

---Ironblood Dorms, Bismarck's Quarters---

"Are you absolutely certain? Yes he's half-kansen, but the ability to manifest a ship form and rigging like our own? That seems quite a bit far-fetched, even for him." said Roon, skepticism in her voice. Across from her, the leader of Ironblood nodded with certainty. "Ja, I will admit that even I had my doubts when my nephew first returned to us, but over the past month or so, I've sensed it. You have as well, have you not?" She then leaned forward, her azure eyes locked with Roon's amber. "The same energy that your cubes emit, I can feel from your son as well. Surely you've seen the signs, no?"

Roon then thought for a moment. "Now that you mention it, he's not like the other humans we've encountered..." Of course! how could she forget? His rather immense strength, his vastly superior eyesight, his rapid reflexes...so many red flags that she failed to notice. If only there was some way for him to make that one, final push...

At that moment, she had an idea. And then, she began to giggle.

Slight panic crossed Bismarck's features as she watched the heavy cruiser's giggle turn somewhat mad. She couldn't possibly be thinking... "Fraulein Roon, I know what you're planning to do, and do not at all believe that it is the correct approach. There must be some other way to get your son to manifest his rigging without the method you're planning. Please reconsider!" implored the battleship.

Unfortunately, her pleas fell on deaf ears. Instead, the heavy cruiser merely smiled. Then, in probably the most sweet but sadistic voice she could muster, Roon spoke.

"Oh my Herrin Bismarck, no need to worry! All I'm planning to do his give my son the push he needs to reach his full potential, nothing more. As his mother, all I want is what's best for him. Surely you see my reasoning?"

Bismarck sighed tiredly. "Ja I do, but I'm not sure that it's the best approach. You have my permission, but see to it that no real harm comes to the Kommandant, Roon."

At that, the heavy cruiser rose from her seat, and bowed to the battleship. "Auf wiedersehen, Herrin Bismarck. You have my utmost gratitude." She then turned towards the door, and l

The results are in! The dreaded "Love-triangle" poll! ⚠️💘⚠️

Less than a week away!

Greetings, all!

Thanks very much to all who participated in the “Love-triangle” poll. It saw 383 votes.

I was hoping to see a higher turnout, but maybe the poll dropped into the feed at a bad time, or perhaps the subject was just repellant to some. Dunno. I’m not sure how polls see attention until the end of a run, especially when they get buried in days of other content. I suppose users must seek them out. Polls are fun, and they give a vague idea of how the more active members of the sub feel on certain issues.

Just for a laugh, I went for some of the more dubious images of the participating characters (those that could be found). I dunno about you, but my reddit has begun showing links to pics almost exclusively, as opposed to the images being in-text with the rest of my hogwash. It kinda blows scrot… The pics are half the fun, sometimes, and they best contribute when immediately seen.

Meh. I don’t make those decisions…

Let’s go! I hope the names I cooked up for each potential love-triangle aren't too cringe.

6. Naga-pai-Yo

Such a fearsome lil’ demon!

I’m a little surprised Yoshi placed the lowest of the Naga-friends and overall. It was a nearly sure thing she wouldn’t top Sakura, but not beating out Gamo-chan is a bit of a stunner. A sad day indeed for the Cult of the Yosh. Or maybe it isn’t… I dunno; it depends on how you feel about things.

Yoshi—while supposedly more “experienced” than Gamo-chan—is the most uncomfortable of the Naga-girls pertaining to the male-species.

You’ll see this notion more than once, but Senpai is viewed by Yoshi as very different than all the other boys in her life. I’m just not sure exactly what he is to her. When Yoshi has her wing-women at her side, she’ll grab at Senpai’s fluff, push him to apparently molest her oldest friend, use her lower-extremities to drench him in an entire bottle’s worth of sunscreen, and lasso him for the sporting of a dog-collar.

So appearently my grandmother won't allow me to be on my bedroom tomorrow, because i have "family"?

What the title says. I just don't fucking get it! I spend all time in my room on either PC and/or phone because it's my only way to contact people who aren't my abusers...And they often bitch about how i'm supposedly "addicted" to them and try to enforce rules that only apply to me to "curb" my "addiction", citing as isolation as one of the reasons...like dude no, by cutting off my contact methods to non-abusers, i'll actually feel pretty isolated.

But in topic of the title, so appearently my grandmother stormed into my bedroom recently, stomping her feet as she quitely said that she doesn't want to see me in my bedroom tomorrow, which she repeats in a louder voice because i didn't really understand it properly...why? because i have "family" and "a lot more to see"...

Yeah, when said family is intolereant of mistakes, belits you for your flaws, your symptoms due to autism, of course you don't want to be near said family! They're not real family!

But of course, since my real family (my friend groups that are mainly on discord) is online-only, my grandparents try to enforce rules that try to limit this to "encourage me to spend time with family and do other things", basically it boiling down to "How dare you not spend time with your abusers! They're your family!"

Yeah, a fake family that's trying to mold me into a society that probably won't even accept me!

In a side note, earlier this month, Judo got restored earlier for Feburary and while luckily i haven't went into judo this year yet, i was forced to do judo in 2019, only stopping in 2020 because of coronavirus, and it's still going strong...and i live in the country with the worst amount of cases - Brazil. My grandmother really wants me to risk my life with a deadly virus over a stupid sport i was forced to do. (i had no choice in the matter, why else i'd be doing judo?)

Pro tips to all CHD moms/dads from a CHD child.

Im no doctor, but I was born with one ventricle and other problems, 3 open heart surgeries (Fontan, Damus- Kaye- Stansel and another one I don’t recall the name) 26 years later im super healthy, fit and graduating from law school, I have a girlfriend and good friends. If I don’t tell you or you don’t see my scars, you would never imagine I have a heart problem. My doctor in Boston says that my condition is amazing and I outperform most of my friends in physical activities. here are my tips.

  1. Enforce Daily exercise(5 times a week): I find swimming the best. Growing up and as a teen my parents out of fear never push me to do daily exercise nor to try to keep up with classmate and others. Big mistake. Most of my life I was a tad overweight. When I was 17 I took on Paintball and Swimming. I got fit, and performed even better than my paintball teammates. Yes I will never go pro, but still my life improved drastically. IMPORTANT**** Don’t be afraid to let your kid push himself or herself*******.Always tell him to follow and listen to his heart. I always knew when to stop. Im super healthy with absolutely no issues and live a normal life. The good thing of paintball and swimming is that I never have to give my 100% for more than 2 minutes and there is plenty of resting time. Swimming is great as a cardio activity, paintball also encourage team work and making friends. I also practice Martial Arts for a long time and I do encourage. Judo is great cause there are not punches or kicks but still full sparring. I won a national championship in Brazilian jujitsu tho I stop it due to constant choking. So yeah, judo is better.

  2. Enforce A healthy diet. comes hand in had with tip N.1 .

  3. When he/she gets older, be sure he/she knows how to drink. Im very thankful for my brother in this case. Alcohol and heart conditions are a no go. Now, young adults and alcohol go hand in hand for the most part. I barely drink, I know its not good for me, yet a cup of wine with my girlfriend is hard to refuse. So make sure you teach him the basic of good drinking. Just one cup or two, always at home, and always with a good meal or after one, never on an empty stomach. Til this day only once I felt sick due to alcohol and it was the day I did not eat well. I drink around 3 times a year only on special occasions, but I always feel good.

  4. Teach him discipline. Its very hard to live with the condition without discipline. Specially because some days you just feel tired and lik

Wanting to get more serious about Judo/SAMBO

Hey everyone;

Over the past year and a half I trained casually/informally with a coach in my area, but I moved away for work a couple months ago and would like to take up Sambo/Judo more seriously. Unfortunately the only Combat Sambo gym near me is a 2 hour drive away which would obviously limit the amount of time I could do classes there. There is a Muay Thai/Judo gym like around the corner from me though, but that would mean I would have to sacrifice Sambo. You can see my issue.

Also should I attend classes right away? I haven't trained or worked out since October, I've started again but maybe a few weeks at a normal gym before starting up again?

The extraordinary career of Jess Hawkin - Naval Cadet 2

First/Prev

The first few days of training in the academy flew by for Jess Hawkin. It was clear that they intended to give the cadets a grounding in every aspect of naval life and she had already attended classes on everything from engineering to navigation. When classes finished, there were assignments to complete, not to mention the simple domestics of helping to keep the squad dorm room tidy, cleaning uniforms, polishing boots… the list was near endless. By the time lights out was called at 22:00 each evening she was happy to collapse onto her bed.

After the first day’s duties had been completed, there had been some consternation amongst the squad when it was discovered there was just the one communal shower, until Deputy Squad Leader Ann had broken the ice, saying “I don’t know about the rest of you, but I need to get clean!” before stripping naked and walking the length of the dorm, towel draped over her shoulder. One be one, the rest of the squad had followed suit until they were all crowded under the jets of hot water. There was an awkward moment when one of Dwayne’s elbows brushed against Aisling’s chest, but when she responded with a good-natured shove which caused a domino effect of accidental contact everything was smoothed over and before long soap was being passed around and backs were being washed by whoever was nearest.

Day four of training was reserved for Physical Instruction. Jess and the rest of the squad stood huddled together in the cold dawn air in their blue PT uniforms, breath steaming as they listened to their instructor. She was a tall, thin woman, hair tied back in a ponytail. “OK cadets, we’re going to start with a little jog to get your blood flowing. Follow me and keep to my pace” She started slowly, gradually building up to a ground-eating speed.

Jess had always considered herself to be pretty fit, but after 10 minutes she was breathing hard, sweat making her kit stick to her body. After another 20 minutes, she could no longer feel her legs and was continuing on nothing but willpower. Looking around she saw that the rest of the squad was also struggling – all except the three Centauri. They hardly seemed to be exerting themselves, talking normally as they ran.  The rest of the squad was strung out in a long line, with Ho-Shi trailing

The middle of nowhere is not so peaceful.

I don't expect anything from this I am just writing this down to get it off my chest.

Psychosis, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety and drug addiction have made my life hell and I thought maybe it would help to put what's been going down in my life here, I haven't really had the time (or they haven't had the patience to listen) to really talk to anyone about what's happened and what I am dealing with on a daily basis.

I have been out of hospital for about a year and a half, it was the forth time in 9 years and it was the worst time of my life.

Majority of the time i am quite.. I'm the type of person that takes a lot of shit before you can tell I am having a bad day, I usually keep to myself but I do say hello to everyone I see and will engage in conversation if they are interested in a chat. I am father of a beautiful little girl, unfortunately I no longer get to wake her up for breakfast or tuck her into bed at night as often as I used too.

I was a troubled child growing up, around 10 years old my teacher told my parents I had ADHD and I was medicated for months and put into anger management I got incredibly skinny and my mother noticed no change in my behavior so she stopped the medication. The anger management felt like I was being punished they talked to me like I was stupid.. giving me names like gus the anger slayer I didn't take much from those sessions and I believe it was all a big waste of money, I have a sister who is a few years older than me who treated me and still to this day like shit. My parents split when I was only a baby and my mother had numerous boyfriends and we were moving around a lot.

My mother used to beat me as I was growing up and I believe this maybe the reason my sister abused me phisically and sexually, I was 6 years old and she was 9 when it started. As I got older my mother put me into judo classes and this is when I started to defend myself from my sister. I loved doing judo however that was cut off completely because I used what I learned from my judo classes on my sister when she tried to hurt me and my mother and her new husband thought I was just being stupid and I had no say in the matter.

Things got better for a while at home, my step father watched my mother beat me once and she stopped after that. We used to go to the park on his days off and play spots and even built a speed boat for the pond at our park.

Once I got into highschool I was bullied and suspended and expelled for fighting from 3 different sc

Judo and injuries

Hey,

I want to finally start learning a martial art after the lockdown. I am currently 28 years old and fairly unfit.

There is a great judo gym near me but I am a bit hesitant because of all the articles on judo related long term injuries like athritis of the fingers and backproblems (which I am especially scared of since that stuff is essential for my livelyhood).

I don't have much of an ego so I'd probably tap when necessary and submit before a situstion could get dangerous. Also not looking to (seriously) compete: mainly for fitness and selfdefense.

So I wanted to know from the insiders: how bad is it really?

Respect James Bond, 007 (Roger Moore)

>"Keeping the British end up, sir."

From the early 70s to the mid 80s, the character of James Bond, 007, was portrayed by English actor, Roger Moore. Moore’s interpretation of the international secret agent was more light-hearted and comedic than the men before him. Some critics even called him “too nice to play Bond” or “an international playboy who never seemed to get hurt”. Still, Moore seemed to do something right, as he portrayed Bond for seven films, eventually tapping out due to age.

This version of James Bond has stopped a heroin operation in the Carribeans, shot the Man with the Golden Gun, defeated the superhuman Jaws on a few occasions, prevented human extinction from outer space, destroyed a communications device that could’ve led to a world war, disarmed a nuke in the circus, and saved Silicon Valley from a maniacal industrialist. He gets through his adventures with an arsenal of gadgets custom-made by Q, plenty of clunky fistfights and no small degree of luck.

Note: The events of For Your Eyes Only directly tie into the film featuring George Lazenby as James Bond. Roger Moore’s incarnation may very well be the same version of the character as George Lazenby’s, whose respect thread can be found here.

Jaws Respect Thread- Jaws is a superhuman villain that tangles with Bond on a couple occasions over two films. Bond should not be scaled directly to him, and always has to fight off Jaws with the environment or some gadget. However, Bond has survived some grappling and fistfights with the man, so it's just here for reference.

UFC Fight Night: Edwards v Muhammad Fight Predictions

Hello!

I hope everyone here is doing well! A bit of a bad weekend in terms of predictions but if everyone just laid on the ground after tripping then no one would get any work done, right?

Don't get too used to these tuesday (it's tuesday here in australia) predictions, I got super antsy yesterday and today and kinda just went with it. Next week though, back to thursday prediction posts... unless i get antsy again.

Disclaimer! I don't see into the future.

(c) - Champ

(D/DWCS) - Debut/Dana Whites' Contender Series Winner

FLS - Fight Lose Streak

FWS - Fight Win Streak

NS - No Streak

(#x) - Rank in Division

(x/3) - confidence levels

Lets go!

Prelims

Welterweight

Jason Witt (18-6-0, NS) v Matthew Semelsberger (7-2-0, 4 FWS) - A fight between two talented fighters still trying to find their footing in the UFC. Witt had a strong showing a few months ago where he submitted Cole Williams by an arm triangle choke. Witt showed insane strength and knowledge, followed by impressive pressure and control on the ground, he maintained position, landed solid ground and pound and eventually sunk in a choke. Witt has James Krause in his corner and considering that most of Witt’s style is to wrestle and control, there really isn’t any better coach to talk you through stuff than Krause. Witts wrestling will play a key role in this fight, especially if he carries Semelsberger to his own corner to get more expert advice from Krause, an absolutely incredible wrestler. Semelsberger is coming off a 4 fight win streak and an impressive debut over Carlton last year in which he displayed beautiful striking and sheer power. Everything Semelsberger threw had an impact and had the intention of putting Minus away very quickly. He did show some issue with head movement though, he seems willing to eat shots if it gives him the opportunity to return fire twice as hard. I didn’t really see too much wrestling from Semelsberger during that fight, so I don’t know how he’s going to react to the strong double leg takedowns that Witt has, but if I had to guess, Semelsberger will probably see it coming and land an uppercut and catch him a few times. Rough, low confidence prediction coming in because it could easily go either way, but at the moment i’m liking what I see from Semelsberger.

Semelsberger via KO R2 - (1/3)
