St. Louis Jane Doe of 1983 (Also known as Hope, Little Doe, Little Jane Doe, "Precious Hope.", Lily, Sweater Girl, and The Girl Nobody Seems To Miss)
Content Warning: The case involves the gruesome death of a child.
I picked this case in hope of a quick and easy write-up. However, the more I looked for basic information the more and more the information became blurred. A game of telephone if it were. Please keep this in mind as you read through my write-up. I did my best to gather as much possible info but there are so many details that seem wrong or misinformed. Interestingly enough the lead investigator of the time also thought this would be an easy case. *"*Back then I thought this would be an easy case to crack," recalled Burgoon, one of the city's first homicide detectives at the scene. We'd find out who the girl was and that would lead us to the killer." - Joe Burgoon
Feel free to copy-paste and use my collected info in any way you wish. Credit is nice but never needed for any cases I write-up. I would rather the info be used and our Little Doe's case eventually solved. Also, I'm probably going to keep adding and working on this write-up. The piles of information laying around are so vast! I am not worried about my spelling or grammar but I understand if you must point out my mistakes. There will be discrepancies with the info on this case just because the information available was so contrary! Lastly, if I have quoted you and you do not want your name attached just let me know, or if you want your name edited.
The story of the Little Doe starts out on a cold day on February 28, 1983, in St. Louis, Missouri. Two people often described as looters, enter an abandoned Victorian home (at one point renovated into an apartment) of 5635 Clemens Avenue in the city's West End Cabanne neighborhood at about 3:30 pm. Then straight from the pages of a penny dreadful, one of the men lit up a cigarette and illuminated the headless body of Little Doe who was there in the dark laying on the ground. Police quickly arrived and they assume she is a discarded prostitute, but when they turn her over they realize she was only a child. The newly appointed and first black commander of the homicide division Leroy Adkins was desperate to solve this case. Adkins wanted to show his community that the police cared for its black community just as much as it cared for its white. However, as hard he worked the case remains to this day unsolv... keep reading on reddit ➡
Thanks to help from the nonprofit DNA Doe Project and forensic Anthropologist Kathy Taylor- using genetic genealogy- Jane Doe B-10, the youngest victim of the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway, has been identified.
Jane Doe B-10 is Wendy Stephens. She was a runaway from Colorado, aged 14.
Wendy's remains were found in a little league baseball field in March of 1984. The ballfield's manager's dog had brought home a bone that looked human and he called police. Within minutes police were on scene and an officer had spotted the rest of the remains. Wendy was also found with another one of Green River Killer Gary Ridgway's victims, Cheryl Wims. Six of Ridgway's victims in total were found in this area during the same time frame with Cheryl's body being only 100 feet away.
Ridgway claimed Wendy was Caucasian, in her early 20s and possibly had brown hair but other than that he didn't give detectives much else to go on. Despite not having much to go on, examination of the remains indicated she was more than likely between the age of 12 and 18. Additional examination indicated Wendy was likely left-handed and had suffered a healed skull-fracture to her left temple.
The Green River Killer was a prolific serial killer that saw the peak of activity in the 1980s and 1990s. Victims of the Green River Killer were either believed to be runaways or sex workers that were picked up along Pacific Highway South and then dumped in the secluded, wooded areas around the Green River, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and various other "dump sites" around and within South King County Washington
Not all Ridgway's victims however were dumped in Washington, at least two confirmed victims were found in Oregon with Ridgway having transported remains across state lines in order to confuse police.
Although he was suspected to be the Green River Killer as early as 1983, it wasn't until 2001, with the help of DNA that Ridgway gave in April of 1987, was he arrested for the murders of four women. Marcia Chapman, Opal Mills, Cynthia Hinds, and Carol Ann Christensen. Forensic science helped identify three more victims to add to his original indictment. Wendy Coffield, Debra Bonner, and Debra Estes.
In 2003 Ridgway plead guilty to 49 murders but in taped confessions has cited the numbers to be as high as 65, and even up to 71 women in total, many of them prostitutes as they were "easy to pick up.".
Ridgway is currently serving 48 life sentences, one life sentence to be served consecut... keep reading on reddit ➡
Long form reporting at its best. Lots of details on Tom's fraudulent activities:
Clark Perry Baldwin was identified as a serial killer in 2019, with the help of forensic genetic genealogy. Baldwin, born in 1962, had lived in Iowa and Missouri, working as an over-the-road truck driver, seeming to have used this vocation to access, murder, and dispose of vulnerable victims. Baldwin is charged in the 1991 murder 32-year-old Pamela Rose McCall and her unborn fetus, in Tennessee. He is also charged with murdering two women in Wyoming, between 1991-1992, both found in 1992, about 400 miles apart. Neither have been identified, and currently go by the monikers "Bitter Creek Betty" and "I-90 Jane Doe." In 1991, in Texas, he was also charged with raping a 21-year-old hitchhiker at gunpoint, and attempting to strangle her to death. The charges were dismissed after the state was unable to locate the victim, though Baldwin apparently admitted to the assault. He also has past run-ins with the law involving counterfeiting. Baldwin's name also surfaced during a 1992 homicide investigation in Iowa, when his ex-wife told police that Baldwin had bragged about "killing a girl out west by strangulation and throwing her out of his truck."
While he hasn't been charged in any other murder cases, investigators are "hopeful" that Baldwin might be linked to other crimes.
While reading about Baldwin's crimes and victims, I immediately thought of Hillsborough/New Hope Jane Doe--a young woman found murdered in North Carolina in 1990. The circumstances, timing, and location make Baldwin a pretty good suspect (more details below), and I'm curious if he's being investigated for this murder, and also what you all think about a potential connection.
Pamela Rose McCall
McCall was last seen at a Tennessee truck stop. She had spoken to her mother on March 2, 1991, from a payphone, and was said to be in a good mood and planning to be home in a few days. Her body was found 8 days later in the woods off Interstate 65 in Spring Hill, Tennessee, seated in an upright position. It took a few weeks for her to be identified. McCall had been sexually assaulted; she had obvious injuries to her face and neck, and had been killed via strangulation. Her clothing was partially missing and torn, and she was without footwear. McCall was 7 months pregnant when she was murdered. Sperm evidence was recovered from her pantyhose; almost 30 years later, it was used to help identify a serial killer.

Who is Slidell Jane Doe (AKA Lake Pontchartrain Jane Doe)?
On June 18, 1986, police in Louisiana received a call from an unknown person saying they would find two bodies beneath an interstate bridge if they met up with a man at the state tourist information center on I-10, just west of Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. When they arrived, they found there was no one there to meet them. They searched around the I-10 and I-59 bridges for the bodies but could find nothing.
On June 19th in 1986, two fishermen discovered the nude body of a woman near the I-10 twin span bridge in Lake Pontchartrain. She was found 50 yards from the shore. A plastic bag was placed over her face, secured with gray duct tape and a red-colored 22-pound weight tied to her neck. She had suffered numerous stab wounds to her facial area as well. The body had drifted 40 yards east from where the fishermen had found her.
The victim had auburn shoulder length hair, unknown eye color, and freckles. Her height ranged between 5"2 to 5"4 inches. Her teeth were very well-cared for.
She was also three months pregnant, was probably married (because of the markings on her ring finger) and was dead for 2-3 days before she was placed in the lake.
When the coroner investigated her remains he found that the lady had a lot of scars (round scar on right knee, scar above navel, scar on right wrist), damage to her hips (which had healed before her demise), plastic surgery done on her nose, facial reconstruction done (maybe because of a previous vehicle or other traumatic accident as well as silicone breast implants. She was three months pregnant.
Toxicology reports found alcohol and caffeine in her system, so she may not have known she was pregnant.

At a press conference today, Pecos PD announced that Pecos Jane Doe who died in a hotel swimming pool in 1966 was identified via DNA as Joliane Hemmy of Salina KS. This case has been written up several times in this subreddit. A quick recap from the Othram link:
" In 1966, a young woman drowned in the Ropers Motel pool in Pecos, Texas and for more than 50 years her true identity was unknown. The young woman, known until recently as Pecos Jane Doe, checked into the Ropers Motel with an unknown male companion, using the names, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Battoun. Hours later, a hotel employee found the woman’s body in the hotel pool. As the woman was being taken away in an ambulance, her companion checked out of the hotel and was never seen again. "

Once again, family reported her missing and never stopped searching. So excited this one was solved.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe was so tense that I had to stop watching it half way through. I convinced myself that if I was going to watch the rest of the movie, I'd have to watch it while I wasn't alone.
About four months after my first attempt, I decide to turn it on while my friend is staying over for the night. The two of us start watching it and it is just as scary as I remember. I start getting to the point where I stopped watching it the first time and I actually feel like stopping it again. I ask friend if he wants me to turn it off(hoping he'll say yes)and he says no.
So we watched the rest of the movie and I was very disappointed. The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a build up movie. The first half is dedicated to slowly progressing the creep factor as the two main characters discover more anomalies about the body. When this is happening it is BRILLIANT. It is extremely uncomfortable to sit through and by the time that the first dead person is seen standing in the halls, you are truly scared. Then the rest of the movie happens and it's just generic horror stuff. The second the zombie person jumps out and pulls the older gentleman into the bathroom it loses all its tension. It's a huge shame. The beginning of the film feels like Hereditary and second half feels like every other mediocre horror movie.
Forty years later, finally Justice for Cynthia Jane Miller. Earl James Robbins, 64, has been indicted for her brutal murder. Let me take you through a very brief summary of what occurred on the evening of August 26, 1981.
I’m originally from West Virginia, born and raised, so Cynthia’s unsolved murder has always been close to my heart. In my first two episodes, of my podcast CRACK THIS CASE I discussed and examined in great detail the tragic death of 27 year old Cynthia Jane Miller, a much loved daughter, friend, and school teacher in Beckley, West Virginia. Cynthia was brutally murdered in her home on August 26th, 1981, as she was finishing last minute preparations for her much anticipated wedding that would take place the very next day to Gary O’Neill, a police officer in the nearby town of Lester, West Virginia. Cynthia was the proud owner of a lovely spacious 4 bedroom home at 103 Miller Street that she had purchased from her Grandfather who had built the home himself. She was so excited to begin her life with Gary as husband and wife in this home. Cynthia also had become a landlady when she converted her basement into a one bedroom apartment and rented it out to a young woman named Terri Boland. Terri was in this basement apartment on the evening of August 26 as Cynthia busied herself in her final preparations for her wedding the following day. Aside from teaching, being a Landlady and preparing for both the wedding and her new teaching job, Cynthia was also a sales representative for the popular Avon cosmetic company. At 9:00pm she made a telephone call to her Avon Manager for some assistance with one of her customer orders she needed to complete so it wasn’t hanging over her on their wedding weekend. Because Cynthia and her manager were also friends, they enjoyed a 20 minute conversation. Her Avon Manager said she was upbeat, so very happy, and couldn’t stop talking about her wedding the following day. Their conversation ended at precisely 9:20pm. Ten minutes later, just a mere 10 minutes, at 9:30pm on that Thursday, August 26th, Gary called Cynthia from his fathers home whom he had been visiting in Princeton, WV, a town approximately 45 minutes away, to tell her he was running late in getting home, but to his surprise there was no answer. Additional calls to his bride to be also went unanswered which was totally out of character for Cynthia. Worried, he left his dad’s home & drove the 45 minutes back to Beckley as quickly as he could, stop... keep reading on reddit ➡
At 9:30 am on June 12, 1993, a Saturday morning, a man, inspecting his recently purchased property discovered an unthinkable horror - a woman's head floating on the lake next to his home. The lake, Bone Lake in New Scandia Township, Washington County, rests about 35 miles northeast of Minneapolis-St Paul.
The man immediately called authorities to report the ghastly find. The head belonged to a young caucasian female, approximately 20 to 30 years old, and had not been in the water very long, perhaps only 2 or 3 days. It had been severed with an extremely sharp blade, cutting cleanly through the woman's neck to the backbone, which had been sawed through. This undoubtedly pointed to murder.
While basic demographics such as height and weight could not be discerned from the head, it did show some distinctive features, which were later memorialized in a composite sketch. The victim wore a very short hair style, described as possibly spiked, with a small ponytail in the back (a rat-tail?). She had 3 piercings in each ear, and was specifically noted to have several chin hairs (were these normal or excessive hairs?).
On June 14, just two days after the discovery of the head, a human foot, again, cleanly severed and with remnants of red nail polish, was discovered along the banks of the Mississippi River in Saint Paul, near Pig's Eye Lake, by a family who was out fishing. Police immediately connected the foot to the head, and conducted further searches of the areas surrounding the two locations. No further body parts were located.
Disturbingly, the location of the foot was over 40 miles away from the head, in an unconnected body of water, suggesting the killer or killers were dumping her body parts around the metro-area.
While the police received numerous early leads about the possible identity of the female - none of them panned out. A month out from the discovery, the only lead the police were still pursuing was a June 21 call from an unidentified man, claiming to be the killer. The man stated he killed the woman and left her body under the Mendota Bridge in St. Paul, near the Minnesota River. The caller claimed the woman was from Wisconsin and told police "``he was sorry [they] didn't find the rest of her."
Police searched the area the caller described for over eight hours but found no further clues or evidence.
No further body parts were ever recovered, and the case became cold, lacking any further attention from the Star Tribune past July of that year.... keep reading on reddit ➡
I am not team Lynette but I’m finally catching up on season 8 and thinking- yup- that’s why you don’t date a married man Jane.
On Valentine’s Day, 1978, the charred body of a teenage girl was found off of Proctor Valley Road in Otay, California. She had died up to two days prior, and, despite the burning, her face remained mostly recognizable. Her official cause of death is undetermined, but poisoning is suspected due to a high level of drugs in her system. Bruising and swelling on her face showed that she may have been beaten or tortured prior to her death. She was small, only 5’1 and 90 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, and had a malformed right ear. She was wearing denim overalls and a white halter top with a blue floral pattern.
