This abyss is the worst iteration we got yet

Before i get downvoted to hell, i just want to say i love the game and i still believe everything is open to constructed critisicm. As such, my argument here is that this Abyss was not only very short and underwhelming but the design was lazy and felt like a mini-LC for Balthier rather than a full-fledged Abyss. For anniversary, it's a bit of a bummer, they didn't even try to make it a bit challenging for Balthier uses it's just straight up "everything buffs itself, enjoy". I rushed it with the same team in an hour and was dissapointed.

So yeah, no sub-strata is a bummer and my usual hype about trying out different teams was completely missing here. Here's hoping the next one is bigger. My goal here is to leave feedback in hopes that we can get a better middle-ground in the future, it is by no means an insult, i just enjoy Abyss a lot usually and felt like voicing it out this time because this didn't feel like Abyss.

To add to what some comments said, no FF12 music nor Bestiary (wrong Ultima model?) is a dissapointment and feels rushed with the copy-pasted Beatrix LC assets. Cheers :)

New Iteration of U Tron featuring Urza

This is my latest version of U tron: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3710657#online

It's basically an attempt at including as many FIRE-design cards into U tron as possible. To make room for 4 copies of Urza, among other cards, I cut all copies of Condescend and Thirst for Knowledge. Lately, these archetype defining cards have felt rather lackluster so I felt like it was worth a try.

I would also like to point out how flavor packed this deck is. It features Urza along side the Urza Tron lands and Karn.

Lands (24):

12x Tron lands
1x Academy Ruins
1x Tolaria West
5x Islands
4x Riverguide Pathway
1x Clearwater Pathway

We splash red for Blood Sun and Engineered Explosives so we need the 4 Riverguide Pathways. The 1 copy of Clearwater Pathway is for the occasional 3rd color as well as black for Dismember. Academy Ruins might not be necessary in the deck anymore, but it's solid with Explosives and Ballista. No other utility lands since we need a lot of blue sources to cast Urza. Also, if we have too few blue sources, then turning pathways into nonblue is more painful.. Tolaria West is great with maps to get Chalice, Explosives or Ballista.

Spells (36):

4x Maps
4x Remands
4x Chalice of the Void
3x Talisman of Creativity (UR)
2x Engineered Explosives
2x Repeal

The 4x Maps are a given. Remand is a strong card so it makes sense to include it even in this list despite being less instant speed oriented. Going Turn 3 Urza into hold up Remand is solid. Chalice is a super strong card vs Lurrus decks etc., and if it's bad it can still be used as a blue source with Urza. The same goes for Explosives pretty much. Recurring EE for 0,1 or 2 with Academy Ruins vs a Lurrus deck is one way to close out the game. Repeal helps vs problematic permanents like Ouphe, vial, blood moon etc., but can also be used to save Ballista or cycled turn 1 on a chalice on 0 if we need to. Talismans helps provide more blue sources, and particularly let's us ramp into 4-drop on turn 3. It also provides red mana for Explosives or Blood Sun.

4x Shark Typhoon
4x Urza, Lord High Artificer
4x Thought-Knot Seer
4x Karn, the Great Creator
1x Walking Ballista

Shark Typhoon is very good in this deck. With Tron or Urza online we can hard cast Shark Typhoon fairly aggressively and then start spinning Urza. Naturally, getting a huge shark in our opponents end step is the go-to mode.

Urza does everything. Some g

Do you think China in its current iteration will really become β€œthe most powerful” country in the world, as in overtaking the US and the West?

I know this has been asked before, and I think if China in its current iteration would be the greater of two evils (compared to the US) if it becomes the global superpower (or even just a superpower), but the more I think about it, the more I wonder whether people’s fears (to one degree or another) are overblown. As a Chinese-Canadian who’s lived in China for the last 2 years (well I have my own issues with Canada but that’s a story for another day), I can see the good points but when it comes to the country’s issues, I feel it has a long way to go before it can be remotely considered a modern country in the Westphalian / democratic sense (not to sound overly Fukuyama-esque).

  1. The huge population is both a strength and a curse, in fact I’d say just as much of a curse. I say this because the parts that most foreigners won’t choose to visit / live in are really the β€œheartland” of the country, poor and underdeveloped and uneducated. Bringing all those masses up to anything resembling contemporary standards of thought and understanding is a monumental task that will be even more challenging than what the CCP keeps saying as β€œlifting them out of poverty.” I’m sure many of you have experiences whether personally (if you’re married to Chinese women) or less directly when it comes to just how backwards and archaic much of the country still is.

I’m pretty much a failure by Chinese / Asian standards when it comes to STEM, and yes eventually the country will have more STEM grads than perhaps the total number of students (at any level / studying any subject) in the States and Canada and Europe combined, but the rigid bureaucracy and still rampant intellectual theft (due to the flaws of the education system) really hinders real, quality scientific thought. You can send as many missions as you want to the Moon and Mars and Proxima Centauri (eventually, I guess), but the overall level of scientific knowledge among the general population is about as good as your typical American Hillbilly or Redneck but on a population magnitude that’s 200 times larger.

Plus, China is also becoming an aging society though perhaps not to the same degree as Japan, Korea, or Taiwan. Prohibitive barriers such as the hukou, along with rising living costs in cities, and outdated traditions like the bride price and 嫁妆 (dowry) are making it harder and harder for young couples to start families and have kids. And the kids are thrown into the meat grinder at an early age, facin

Can we please get the ability to change the home screen to previous character iterations?

Bringing this request around again. Seeing as today is Lunar New Year, I was reminded of the awesome Li-Ming home screen, I wish I could see it in game again. There were so many great intro screens that clearly a lot of love went into and they've been locked away for so long. Previously the running theory was that it would take away from whatever information needed to be relayed on the landing screen, but that really is moot at this point, so why not?

u/ozdogan put together a great compilation of previous character splash screens when they were released, with some really great music too. PLEASE consider adding a selector like SCII has, or even just a random option. It would be a small but really great QoL change.

GA Iteration: Some Insight for the community

Hello friends. I see alot of chatter on here about GA's going "overboard" recently, and there is a pretty big misconception about what this all means. I care about this community deeply, and would like to help you all understand what's goin on a little bit better, even if I can't tell you everything just yet.

We've been working with the Pro Players closer than ever this year, and we're all still finalizing rulesets for the official CDL season kicking off next year. Because of the massive amount of content being offered in Create a Class and Gunsmith in particular, this takes some time and playtesting to get the right competitive gameplay in place.

I have to thank the Players for taking this on with their critical and thoughtful approach, but also in keeping confidence with the discussions we've had. What the Pro Players are doing by shifting the GA rules, is experimenting and helping determine what the ruleset should and will be for the CDL Season. Because the Pro Players are actively engaged in streaming and sharing their time and gameplay with you, everyone here gets to see it happening live, but doesn't have all the context. That can cause some overreactions to what is actually very normal and healthy iteration. We are looking at some new ways to solidify the officially sanctioned content for the CDL which we will talk more about next year, and working closely with the Players and their insight on what those rules will look like.

Expect what you've seen to continue: new experimentation, new rulesets, playtesting, and updating again. We are working together to find the best set of rules, including the right competitive content for the right modes, and I can't tell you how difficult that is to do with the hundreds of thousands of you watching and speculating all along. Again, Kudos and thank you to the Pro Players for walking that tightrope balance. You might have noticed competitively relevant tuning and gameplay changes in recent updates, and we will continue those as we work together to get the best competitive ruleset in place for CDL to begin, with the goal of delivering an incredible Competitive COD viewing experience for you all next year. Thanks for you patience, hope you are having fun with our game and have a great Holidays!

Next iteration of Fullstack TypeScript-based Framework (KaviarJS)

Hello,

I've been working for the past year and so on a new framework (KaviarJS) to help me faster prototype applications while using my favorite tech stack: Node, MongoDB, GraphQL & React. (all flavored with TypeScript). It has been a rough ride, I had many hoops to jump.

You can look at it here: https://kaviarjs.com/

I'm now beginning to evangelise it and will start creating a docuseries on it starting next week and work on documentation like hell. I strongly believe that the documentation is as important as the quality of the framework itself, and currently there's a lot of room for improvement.

(More info on the roadmap here)

I want this to grow and be solid this is why I'm making it a startup and will hold fundraising this March. Hope it will go fine, any support in this regards is welcome.

Things that are β€œspecial” in Kaviar:

- Everything is type-safe. (Typescript FTW)

- Everything is hackable (due to DI you can customise almost all bits of logic in any Kaviar app)

- The foundation is Database/API Agnostic, but it contains rapid development tooling with specific Stack (GraphQL/MongoDB)

- Powerful Database-agnostic Security module. (Multiple authentication strategy support, Roles Hierarchy & Domains, Passwords Attempts Security, etc)

- Nova (SQL speeds for relational data in mongodb)

- Seamless Live Data with GraphQL and MongoDB (Meteor-style simplicity)

- Async Event Management

- Intelligent cli tool that knows your code and offers powerful autocompletion based on current code-base

- Scaffolding tool for CRUDs and almost everything

- Rapid development tooling

At this stage, feedback is like oxygen and even negative feedback will be appreciated. Would love to know your thoughts.

UPDATE
You can now try the boilerplate: https://github.com/kaviarjs/x-boilerplate

Nexus Blitz seems to be getting worse and worse with every iteration

NB is back, and none of the problems people complained about last time are fixed. From the terrible imbalance of the event awards (from a crappy suicide-sled to an elder soul), to the absolutely random and unfair event spawns that are supposed to help bring back the losing team into the game yet often make a balanced game unfair or make the winning team stomp even harder, to the length of the game making it so that you can almost reach your full build and have your power fantasy fulfilled, only to see your nexus stand up on it's stumpy legs and run it down mid, ending the game. On top of that, this time all the NB-exclusive items are gone, giving you even less of an incentive to play since you can't even play with fun new(old?) items and create previously impossible builds.

At this point I think I'd rather see this gamemode scrapped instead of watching it deteriorate like a forgotten salad at the back of the fridge.
