You know, for us solo guardians out there...
I do...barely. Keep your blues and stars in shadow for one week. Why so stingy???
Edit: I had a vague memory of Bungie saying they were buffing IB drop rates....turned out I was thinking of this Bungie update from 11/17/2015: “Increased drop rate for Legendary Gear in the Iron Banner playlist.” Back then, there was a hero named u/HeyFitzy who would play 300 IB matches and post the drop rate data (traveler bless you wherever you are).
I have a distinct memory of seeing a friend in the Kings Fall raid with an IB helmet at max light. I proceeded to grind IB and finally hit max light thanks to that helmet.
A few other memories from commenters: (1) the post match reward screen, where you could either be encouraged, salty, or braggy when everyone sees the teams’ drops. Seems most of us enjoyed that communal experience; (2) when you could buy gear and weapons from Lord Saladin; (3) when there was new, distinctive IB armor (some even with animal pelts); (4) when there was also IB clash and IB rift.
Some memories are better than others, but they all seem to indicate that the idea of Iron Banner has always had potential to be a rewarding and fun community endgame activity. At times, IB has been dialed in closer to its full potential and it’s been further away from it at other times. I enjoy reading where you all think it currently sits.
What is the point of sun setting if we are just chasing old weapons and armor again. I dont expect new sets every season but a brand new dlc should being new armor and weapons for a in game pinnacle event. But since IB is a free event they don't invest the money and resources too. I've been dying for a new of IB ornaments and armor and it's extremely disappointing to see just old armor brought back again and again.
It's pretty much all in the title. As sweaty as IB usually is, I haven't been killed by MT once. Despite sunsetting's many pitfalls, this part worked out extraordinarily well for PvP.
