Could you use other imaginary units than sqrt(-1)?

Sqrt(-1) seems fairly arbitrary to me since there are other things in maths which are similar to sqrt(-1) like ln(-1) which doesn't have any real solutions. So could you use ln(-1) as an imaginary unit? Or more broadly, is sqrt(-1) the only imaginary unit? If so, why?

My imaginary unit: NCT Variety

When SHINee appeared on Weekly Idol for the first time they said they were like SM's lab rats for new variety shows because they would send SHINee first to test new shows before sending other SM idols lol

So it came to me in a dream: an NCT unit made up of Taeil, Taeyong, Kun, Xiaojun, Mark, and Jeno called NCT Variety.

NCT Variety would become the new lab rats but unlike SHINee they are veeery awkward and quiet (you could argue they have their funny moments, but overall they're awkward turtles lol) so they'd be sent to try every variety show and if the show succeeded in making them funny, then it was considered worthy for SM idols to appear on LOL

Hello, I am in my compulsory military service in Egypt, 2 days ago I was tested because I came into contact with another positive solider a week ago. The results came in POSITIVE. I didnβt ask to be tested or did I feel anything significant.

They gave us Vitamin C and Zinc Tablets along with paracetamol tablets.

I started taking the Vitamins and is drinking a lot of water and herbs.

I started feeling a very very mild sore throat when I wake up, a mild mid-back pain. I have no headache and my temperature is 36.8C~37.3C.

What should I be doing now ? What types of food should I avoid ? How can I kill it before it starts ? My parents are old and if I need care and I wonβt let them help then I have no one else(okay friends can help but I donβt want to infect anyone).

My first contact with an infected person should be 9 days ago now. Maybe I got infected by someone else later though.

Why did they stop making Unit art imaginary gifts?

I can't be the only one who really enjoyed collecting imaginary gifts with Grade 3's on them. It's especially great for the budget player to have a vast collection of imaginary gifts without spending too much money, like I would have loved a Claret Sword Force 2, instead we get these lame grey ones, hell I miss the expensive anime character ones too! I love my Koutei Force 1, and wish we got the Kanzaki Force 1 so I could add to my gift collection. Just feel like Bushiroad is losing a lot of potential with gifts, anyone have any idea why they stopped doing it that way?

Why is sqrt(-1) treated as mathematically permissible to work with if replaced with the imaginary unit, whereas dividing by zero is just never fine?

Intuitively, square root of any negative number should just be undefined since no number times itself can ever equal a negative number. Imaginary numbers have real world applications in fields such as circuits and physics, but it seems arbitrary that we have an imaginary unit for such a specific undefined case.

Why not have a second imaginary unit to represent divide by zero or another function with undefined results in a certain domain?

Why is it when taking the magnitude of a frequency response, we just ignore the imaginary unit?

I was looking at the magnitude response for an RL circuit and the numerator of H(w) was obviously j*omega*L. When the magnitude was taken, this was simplified to just omega*L. But the sqrt(jwl^2) still contains an imaginary component if I ran it through a mathematical solver (like Wolfram Alpha), so I'm figuring there's something I don't realize about impedance magnitude that let's us discard this.

Is there some sense in which all the quaternion units can be interpreted as "roots" analagous to the imaginary unit?

Historically the imaginary unit arose when considering roots of polynomials. Later it turned out to be useful in giving the plane an algebraic structure.

Quaternions extend that algebraic structure to 3-space.

Why was the imaginary unit "i" put into the time dependent Schrodinger Equation in the first place?

I know Schrodinger basically just derived the equation from his head, but there has to be a mathematical reasoning behind it that I'm missing.
