I made a snarky reply to a redditor and he dug up a post I made a couple years ago on /r/suicidewatch about how I wanted to commit suicide since I have never been in a relationship even though I am in my mid twenties. That have absolutely nothing to so with the post or what we were talking about. Keep in mind, he had to look through several pages of my submission history to even come across that.

Fuck people like this so much. If you get annoyed by someone, do you just look through their post history to dig up whatever shit you can to humiliate and slander them?

George Floyd was murdered by America: a historian's perspective on the history of U.S. police brutality against Black people

From the /r/AskHistorians mod team:

Multiple histories of US police violence against the Black community are being written this week. They’ve taken the form of tweet threads, news articles, blog posts, and conversations among friends, loved ones, and even strangers on the internet. Amidst these waves of information, we as historians want our readers to remember the following:

Police brutality against Black people is woven into the fabric of the history of policing in the USβ€”and reflects the historical reality that white America benefits from police and state violence against the Black community. George Floyd’s murder and the brutal suppression of the ensuing protests are the latest in a long history of police brutality and excessive, extraordinary violence.

As historians like Edward Ayers and Sam Mitrani have established, the construct of American policing was formed between roughly 1840-1880 on the crest of two trends. First, rising population density in cities brought middle-c

CMV: there's been around 10,000 religions in the world throughout history. It's genuinely absurd to believe in a religion because even if there's a religion that is correct, there's a 9,999/10,000 chance that yours is not it.

And those people who smugly put forth Pascal's wager (if a believer is wrong nothing happens when they die, but if an atheist is wrong they'll go to hell when they die, so it's in your best interest to believe) are idiots, because that doesn't take into account the other 9,999 religions that could be correct.

If any one religion was correct, it should have sprung up in multiple different places (with slight variations) independently of one another. But that hasn't happened.

Religions only exist as a way a community develops understanding of the world and a moral/legal system. They are human made to suit human needs. That's fine, but the second people start trying to impose things on others or harm others because their particular religion says so and their particular religion is definitely right, we're crossing into ridiculousness. You can't possibly know yours is right, the chances of it being right are negligible.

For all we know, some tribe somewhere was right 15,000 years ago and

AITA for not sharing medical history before being pranked?

Heyo, I'm a schizophrenic. Started when I was 22, and will last till I die. I'm active in schizophrenic communities, go to groups, the works but I am fairly private about it to most people to include friends. It's fairly common for people to think I'm eccentric (comes with the turf) due to some of my habits. Those habits include not going to parties or other places with lots of people, suddenly deciding not to do something (I have to be protective not to do or go to certain things if I think a delusion might be coming on), saying the occasional odd quip, normal schizophrenic stuff.

Some friends thought it would be funny to make it seem like I might be going crazy as a group. They would individually wear something silly like a wizard hat or dinosaur costume (TRex blow up costume) to a group event or say something totally out of the ordinary and pretend like it was normal (Police like to track people like you, covid is just a way to microchip you, etc). These are very real scary thou

Capitalism isn't perfect, but it's one of the best creations in human history.

Unlike other economic "systems," capitalism is predicated on freedom and choice. It also rewards hard work through social mobility. It eliminates barriers and gives everyone equal chances at succeeding. Instead of tearing it down, we need to support this system and incentivize a hardworking, dilligent society. Laziness is one of society's evils, and capitalism roots it out.

This pandemic is honestly surreal, and we probably won't fully realize it until it's in the history books.

I think about this all the time.

I mean we've all seen all this stuff in movies and video games; a virus outbreak, killing thousands, causing unemployment and the rest of it. I go to my local stores to get groceries and everyone is standing 6 feet apart, wearing masks, and disposable gloves. Just like in a movie, every headlines news contains the latest statistics and updates on the virus and how to combat it. Most people have been in their homes for months on end, yet we were kind of instantly accustomed to it. And there's the usual jackasses from the movies as well, denying existence of the virus and roaming about as nothing is afoot.

I don't know, I feel like this is something extremely huge yet most of us probably haven't even thought of it twice. Thank you if you've stuck till the end of my rambling.

When in human history did we start cutting our hair?

Given the hilarious quarantine haircut pictures floating around, it got me thinking.

Hairstyling demonstrates relatively sophisticated tool use, even if it's just using a sharp rock. It's generally a social activity and the emergence of gendered hairstyles (beyond just male facial hair) might provide evidence for a culture with more complex behavior and gender roles. Most importantly, it seems like the sort of thing that could actually be resolved from cave paintings or artifacts or human remains found in ice, right?

What kind of evidence do we have demonstrating that early hominids groomed their hair?

AITA for reminding my accountant he is professionally obligated to keep my tax and work history confidential, especially from his son?

I have been working with CPA who is a close friend of my dad’s. He does my taxes and helps me put together documents when I need them. Recently, he needed to go over my previous tax returns for something but I didn’t have the copies, so I just paid for a form 4506 or something to get the IRS transcripts to him.

After we went through my tax returns, he discovered something in my employment history that I had never mentioned to anyone. In college and grad school, I was a cam model for an agency that is completely legit and 2257 compliant. But it does show up in my tax returns because I paid taxes on the earnings.

So I told him the cam model work history, and he looked visibly upset (through zoom anyway). Part of the reason is that he knows his son and I are fooling around (strictly fuck buddies) and that his son is really into me, and wants things to be serious. I already get the sense that he is not into our friendship. I think this work history just confirmed whatever fears he had.

Huge shoutout to _______ for being a part of history. They should be super proud of themselves.

Michele’s the only Winner at War to never be voted out and one of four people to play two seasons and make it to the end w/o being voted out (joining Sandra, Russell and Amanda who have since been voted out).

Regardless of what anyone thinks about her or her individual game this season or in general, that in itself is a huge accomplishment and I hope this time she's super proud of herself for it. She's won four immunity challenges over two seasons β€” with only seven women having won more than her β€”Β and honestly played a really strong game to not have received a single vote. Hope to see Michele 3.0 in a couple years.

History nerds of reddit, what is your favorite obscure conflict?

Doesn’t have to be a war or battle

My favorite is the time that the city of Cody tried to declare war on the state Colorado over Buffalo Bill’s body. That is dramatized of course.

I was wondering if I could hear about any other weird, obscure, or otherwise unknown conflicts. I am not necessarily looking for wars or battles, but they are as welcome as strange political issues and the like.

Edit: wow, I didn’t know that within 3 hours I’d have this much attention to a post that I thought would’ve been buried. Thank you everyone.

Edit 2.0: definitely my most popular post by FAR. Thank you all, imma gonna be going through my inbox for at least 2 days if not more.
