We all see and hear people complaining about caustics on their teams for the same reasons but this is the first time ive heard it be said about rev. The ult complains I get cause that is his most lackluster part but its not really a hindrance and the silences block the enemies vision a LOT more including sound disruption n such. I'm just tryna either understand or figure out how to be less hindering to my team. I fucking love rev but my friend say he absolutely hates him.

At what age do people feel old? Remember when you were 7 and you thought 30 was old, but once you got to that age you realized you are *way* on the underside of the "old" spectrum? At what age do ppl feel age is now a real hindrance in doing or accomplishing things bc they're officially "old"?

Example: I'm 34 (never married, no kids) yet energetically and motivationaly, I feel like I still have my whole life ahead of me to try entrepreneurial ideas, make up for lost money from my youth in time for a comfortable retirement, travel, date and marry someone in my 40s and still feel "young" and no time wasted. So far, I don't think 45 or even up to 50 is too old or too late to do a lot of things, but at what age do ppl feel that happens?

I think Payton is more of a hindrance and issue to the team than Randle is

I think we can all agree that Randle can be a bone head when he gets his tunnel vision. He spins into the defense and is blind at times when some guys (RJ) are open.

But based off what we’ve seen in the pre-season he’s been more of a team player and arguably one of our best passers

Payton on the other hand gets me so tight

Dude dribbles the ball for 18 seconds before passing. He only passes if it’s an entry pass to a post up, if he can get an assists, or if he sees Randle.

The flow of the offense dies when he is on the court since doesn’t try to work the ball around, he’s just trying to get that assist.

An example is when we run line ups of with guys like IQ, Knox, RJ, Obi, Mitch, and Frank. The ball is much more free flowing, it’s guys move a lot more and get into rhythm better.

With Payton it’s so stagnant because he needs to be the guy making every play since he can’t do anything off ball.

Example, with Quickley he can pass the ball, run off a screen to the corner or elbow and be a threat to shoot. So even without the ball he can still make himself useful.

With Payton, once he passes the ball what can he do? He’s not a good cutter since he doesn’t have any crazy finishing ability. He’s a terrible shooter so he can’t be a spot up threat. And he’s also so small that he can’t be a screener to get someone else open.

So what is his usefulness on offense? A few layups and some assists. Outside of him making some passes he’s damn near garbage on offense and just kills the offensive flow.

I don’t mind Randle as much. He’s been passing decently, he’s our best scorer, he’s not a great shooter but can still hit the 3 at times.

If there is anyone I want off this team, it’s Payton.

Why straw phonation is not only unhelpful to the singer, but is a hindrance to your development

Please listen with an open mind, as I have studied the voice quite a lot in my path to becoming a speech therapist.

First thing’s first: Just because something makes something easier doesn’t mean it’s helpful or beneficial.

Cheating on a test is easier, but what happens when the final exam is monitored? Training wheels helps a kid ride a bike, but if he keeps using them is it helping or hurting? Straw phonation is even worse, because they aren’t just training wheels, they remove any of the sense of performing the action. Imagine training wheels, but also self pedaling pedals and self turning handlebars, and you’re strapped to the seat and can’t fall. Now are they even training wheels, or a waste of time?

The science and fundamental logic behind straw phonation is flawed, and it’s time this is heard by singers.

We don’t sing with a straw sized vocal tract.

We have to learn to sing with our real voice and coordinate all the muscles effectively and not make it into a tiny tube. All the straw does is take away all of the learning, pulls you out of the need for proper engagement and balance of the 100+ muscles.

Most significantly,

it removes the very aspects of the human voice that makes it what it is (it’s high range of dynamic capability as well as it being a resonator that can constantly change shape for the intended vowel and color of sound. That’s what singing is. You don’t sing one volume level and one vowel as you sing, and you don’t keep it the same size. It’s constantly shifting for the intended vowel, color, and size of the voice. That’s what gives the voice all the sounds it can do. And to do this effectively, we have to learn to isolate and coordinate the right muscles in the right synchronicity. The straw removes all of this, so it is not aiding you in learning how to actually sing well. Again, go back to the bike analogy. When you have removed all of the need for the proper balancing and timing of muscles, it stops becoming a training tool and is just a fake sense of aid.

The hallmark of a great singer is vocal efficiency. And ironically, straw phonation inspires a less efficient production of the voice, and unfortunately does not solve any of the aspects of technique that lead to a more efficient sound (such as control of the breath flow, correct engagement and antagonistic balance of inhale and exhale muscles, controlling and isolating the intrinsic laryngeal muscles etc). Just because you made a phonation mor

Our loan officer has not answered a single phone call we've placed, or returned one. She's called only when she has felt compelled.

She doesn't give frequent updates, hasn't said the words "conditional approval" "final approval" or "clear to close".

When I ask questions, she doesn't really answer them. For instance, I just asked her to confirm the certified check amount for closing and she told me that it's on our closing disclosure. I asked if my wife was safe to transfer funds from savings to checking and she basically said "It should be fine,"

I've had quicker, friendlier, and more helpful responses by contacting our processor and closer individually.

Hindrances via Character Development (SWADE)

Heya!

Question: Is there any precedent for assigning hindrances (aside from Enemy, etc.) during long-term play? I couldn't find a RAW example, but I swear I've seen it somewhere before.

Background: A player character at my table start down a fairly interesting development path where he has started becoming Vengeful, so I was eyeballing the hindrance and considering having him adopt it if the PC continues to behave in such a way.

Any thoughts/feedback welcome. Thanks!

Zhongli's kit being about specifically dealing with Geo constructs is a hindrance to the character.

#JusticeForZhongli

I deeply love the Geo Ceo, and I want the best for him, which is, not to be in this awkward place as a 4* stat with 5* glitter. Buffs or nerfs aside I've come to realize that one of the few useful parts his toolkit has amounts to nothing. Why? Well, hear me out.

Dominus Lapidis. The core of this skill is useless long and short term. Drains Geo energy from a maximum amount of 2 targets. Resonates with Geo constructs. Okay, cool, but realistically speaking, how many enemies use Geo? Mondstat being thematically the city of wind had 0 enemies where this could have proven useful. Liyue, the region of Geo, barely had enemies to interact with this skill. A couple stone shields here and there widely spread across the land, some Geo Samachurl and big buffed Hilichurls. Main problem is, outside this very specific niche set of enemies this aspect of his skill is lost. Will Inazuma have geo constructs? I sincerely doubt it. My Razor obliterates stone shields faster than Zhongli can drain energy from them, claymore users are way better than Zhongli's absorption.

Is this good or viable long term? Honestly, no. There's no 5* chatacter that needs a specific enemy in order to not loose their toolkit. Even Venti's ult that can't drag big fat enemies can trigger elemental reactions due to how versatile Anemo is. Is it good to have a 5* dependant of specific elemental enemies in order to not have restrained its moves? Definetly not. Is Zhongli extremely depentand in this? Yes. "But he has more skills than that, you know!". A pillar that needs other constructs, that can not resonate with anything else but Geo that can only drain geo energy when geo stuff isnt even common is a horrible planified toolkit.

TLDR: The Geo God dependant of Geo constructs in a world scarce of them is just absurd.

Was over reliance on Slave Soldiers and Feudal Levies a hindrance for Islamic military progress

In Edward Gibbons seminal work "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" he points to a number of factors for Rome's dowfall but one of the main reasons he points was the late Empire's over reliance on Foederati, basically hired "barbarians" mostly Germans but also Celts, Berbers who lived outside the fringes of the Empire or with in the Empire its-self but were not citizens of Rome, in its last years they increasingly became a prominent proportion of the Roman military, and again its not the direct reason for Rome's downfall but a big factor

Islamic states were no different sultanates, emirates, caliphates and immates all had a substantial number of either slave soldiers famously Ghilman and Mamluks or raised local levy forces

permanent standing armies were rare, even European Christian states also used predominantly raised local levy forces for warfare with exceptions, such as the Italian wars which used a number of mercenaries and local miltias

however by the end of the Late Middle Ages many European states were adopting permanent standing Armies, France during its hundred year long defensive war against England and England during its civil war

these standing armies gave a level of development and loyalty and stability far above other states

I mean the Delhi sultanate had so many revolts by the slave soldiers that there were 5 different dynasties of slave revolt origin and this led to massive political weakness which was exploited by outsiders

I mean don't get me wrong Mamluks and Ghilman were effective for Islamic forces in the start but standing Armies had far more advantages in the long run

Duo's Hindrance almost feels mandatory now to do well on AR Defense

I focus my resources in this game mostly at AR and it definitely still is my favorite mode in the game. My AR Defense usually gets about -80 to -120 each week, and prior to implementation of Tier 28, I was usually in the Tier 26-27 area. However, I don't know if it's just me but the last few weeks it seems like my AR Defense has just been getting repeatedly crushed by these crazy Duo Skills coming out every month. So much so that I found myself spending my last aether stones on Duo's Hindrance and replaced one of my high investment units on my defense team with +0 Duo Byleth who is the only Duo Unit I actually have.

When I face a team without any duo skills, it seems I almost always win or get enough kills to make the lift loss not too bad. But now with DuoLyns running around self dancing, and DuoTiki duoskill dancing DuoLyn, not to mention winter Altina who seems to sweep most teams when it's not even her bonus week, it seems like the future of AR if you want to do well in defense, you need Duo's Hindrance. A new Duo Skills comes out every month and it seems like they are only going to get more OP as we head into 2021.

And even Duo's Hindrance isn't a guarantee that you won't get rolled by Duo Skills since now most teams are able to sacrifice one unit and still get full score, nothing is stopping them from smiting Eir in to snipe the building or your Duo Unit, and then proceed as normal.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I guess I never was a big fan of Duo Skills in general, it always seemed like a P2W "I win" button gimmick to me. Thoughts?

Pregnant and wishing JNMom was a help rather than a hindrance.

CW: talk of miscarriages, mention of abuse

Hi, first time poster. My mom is the JN in my life and I’m exhausted, and I guess I just need a place to say it. Maybe a hug. Advice is welcome.

I (27f) have been low contact with my physically, emotionally, and financially abusive JNMom for three years, ever since a manipulative event that was the last straw for my twin and I when we were the last of the 6 siblings living at home. I struggled with guilt for leaving for a very long time as she has multiple disabilities and relied on our support so it took almost a year, and a number of other manipulative events, before I was able to move past that guilt.

I moved in with my boyfriend at the time, who is now my fiancΓ©, and now we are expecting our first child in March. There’s so much more to this woman than what I’m going to rant about but I will stick to the relevant information for this post, which is my pregnancy.

My whole life I had been terrified of pregnancy, and up until last year had zero plans to ever be a parent but my SO is a wonderful man and eventually I decided I was ready for it. I guess I didn’t realize how much of that fear was because of JNMom and being apart from her was what allowed me to realize that I truly did want to be a mother myself.

Anyways so the problem is that she keeps trying to be involved in my pregnancy. I have set boundaries multiple times, backed up by my siblings, and do my best to keep my distance from her but it’s not always easy nor does she stick to them. I will admit she is trying, but she’s so damn oblivious sometimes it drives me crazy. I cannot cut her out entirely as she is both mentally and physically unstable and she would be worse if I tried, plus I won’t leave my siblings to deal with all that alone.

The main problems are as follows:

A) I am terrified of losing my baby. She always told us that we might have problems with pregnancy because she herself had so many complications and I just know that if something does go wrong she’ll make it all about her. She constantly brings up uncomfortable details about her own pregnancies as well as sharing traumatizing information about all her kids’ births. She also shared every name she gave to her multiple miscarriages with me and each story behind them, and will bring them up randomly even after I’ve asked her not to.

B) No milestone is far enough for her. I’m 27 weeks now (yay third trimester!) and spent most of early pregnancy in a haze of anxiety waiting for

Can a cemented leather boot be converted into a goodyear welt(or any other stitched construction)? If not, what are the hindrances?

Hello dear professionals of your craft!

I have this question that I could not find an answer to... The title explains it all. I have got this pair of leather boots that I bought fully knowing that they are what they are. I bought them in Deichmann for 70€ (on sale from 90€ I think). Initially just for winter, but soon I started bringing them to random housework when mowing the lawn, digging the dirt and so on outside of winter. This summer I did some hiking in them and they held up very well. I have, unfortunately, created an emotional connection to something that will soon fall apart. I have noticed, that the fake welt came loose in some places exposing the actual part that binds the sole to the upper. That means that sooner or later, they will start falling apart because I wear them into mostly into rain and not so nice weather.

So.. is it possible to literally convert the boots into any kind of stitched construction making their life a little longer? The upper is of a good leather to what I use it for mainly and honestly. The person that decided, that that boot will be cemented with that leather should face jail time honestly.

Is desire a hindrance and should certain objects be avoided?

I often see this question (or a variation of it) on many subreddits, including this one. The underlying fear behind this question is that, by becoming detached, you withdraw from life and become motionless and devoid of love for life. This could not be further from the truth. I came across this quote by Francis Lucille that perfectly answers this question, and I think in a way represents the way Alan loved to live his life.

Q: Is desire a hindrance and should certain objects be avoided?

Francis: This is not a path of detachment from objects, of depriving oneself of life. On the contrary, life should be a celebration. We need to discover what life is before we can truly celebrate it. When we find out what life really is, a natural detachment takes place. This detachment is effortless, because our discovery gives us such absolute happiness, cures us so radically of fear, gives us such an ease of being and freedom, that the usual objects of desire seem pale in comparison. In other words, we are not detaching ourselves from objects through practices or disciplines; they are detaching themselves from us as a result of understanding and causeless joy. The objects are all still available but the difference is that we no longer use them to obtain happiness. We use them to celebrate happiness. (taken from The Perfume of Silence by Francis Lucille).

Do you believe contemporary American culture is a hindrance to movies set in the present-day/recent years?

We often hear modern storytellers discuss the limitations of placing a story in our current culture. It seems that to achieve any sort of realism, smartphones and other forms of technology must be acknowledged or worked around in some way. Horror films definitely suffer the most from this. Aside from storytelling, I feel a lot of these films suffer from a style standpoint.

This might be a bit snobbish, but I generally dislike films set in contemporary America. (This excludes films that take place in parts of the country that haven’t fully caught up to modern technology. I think of Hell or High Water.) A character shown texting on a smartphone screen turns me off more than not. It’s also often that I watch something (It Follows most recently) and feel it would’ve benefited from being placed in a previous era. You can attribute that to the romanticization of those time periods, but as a Gen Z-er, I crave great films set in the era I’m growing up in! The Safdies Bros and Sean Baker come to mind as directors currently making those great films.

Does anyone feel the same as me? Is this an issue that every generation faces, or specific to us? I’d love to hear your thoughts as well as any films or directors that you feel overcome these limitations and are able to excel.

When trying to get par scores, the friendly AI are a hindrance, not a help and it's ridiculous.

I recently got the MCC, been having some fun and I just beat Halo: CE on Legendary, right now I'm going through, getting the skulls and terminals while getting the par scores, I'm on level 3 Truth and Reconciliation and this level is the fucking worst. The marines have killed me more than the fucking enemies, because all the strats I read for the level advise I have boom on because it makes it easier to chain kills, and to deal with elites aboard the ship. I've had several borderline flawless runs, where I hit all the elites with a headshot, and I'd managed to get up to an untouchable so my score was going up. Right on cue, like Aaron Rodgers throwing a Hail Mary, the Marines spawn in and ALL throw a grenade, which causes some to ricochet towards me and cause instantaneous death, it's happened so many times and you're literally not safe anywhere I've been standing behind the marines, 80 yards away and several distances in-between and I've ended up dead after a few flawless runs all the way up to the gravity lift.

Am I alone on this? Does anyone else find the marines to be a hindrance? Aside from them just being terrible and dying in most levels to any enemy.

Have you seen the 2020 lockdowns as a help or hindrance to your weight loss efforts? Edited!

Personally, I feel this is an opportunity to lose the weight I’ve been trying to shift for a decade.

Restrictions on going out (saves my weekend drinks and social meet ups which usually mean I have to be really strict on myself for the rest of the week) and less time commuting means more time in the kitchen to prepare healthy foods.

But it’s different for everyone - those on furlough have to fill more time and might be reaching for the snacks. Or they might be out doing more body magic. Families may be barely holding it together with home schooling. I’m just really interested to see the balance.
