Making your own herbal tea/tea blends/infusions?

I love to buy and drink all kinds of tea as much as everyone else here, but I am interested too in branching out. I am an avid gardener and would love to know if anyone else has made any of their own herbal teas and what they like and how they like it (strength, blends, hot, cold, only from fresh leaves, dried first, etc.) What do you like blended with black, green, red or white loose tea? Perhaps some wouldn't be considered tea as much as a sun tea/infusion, but you know, when it's 100 outside in the summer sometimes you crave different things. If you have personally dabbled in this or have tasted the fruits of someone else doing so, will you share your thoughts? I have a ridiculous amount of lemon balm that needs harvesting, and I have some new lavender, mint and basils growing and I wonder what's out there I haven't tried. I also have a dehydrator and am reasonably proficient in the kitchen. TIA!

Indie herbal tea recommendations?

I've started to attempt to have a regular bedtime routine, in an effort to improve my overall sleep hygiene (the key word here is "attempt," hahah, but I'm trying). I've found that I really like when I have a nice cup of calming herbal tea before bed. Recently, I've been enjoying Drink Your Vitamins (& Minerals) by Cattail Apothecary (it's quite pleasant and I really like it with a little bit of honey!). I also have a few different teas by Ritualcravt, which I also like a lot. I'd love some more variety, though, so I would really like to hear your recommendations for indie herbal teas!

As an avid tea and herbal tea drinker, i have a proposal...

okay so i already have known herbal teas are technically 'tisanes' for a long time, but i just read that non-judgemental guide to tea in the sidebar right now. apparently, the word 'tisane' is derived from a greek word meaning 'not tea'.

yeah right, i always thought tisane was a dumb name anyway. this is 2021, we gotta get with the program. i propose that tea tea is referred to as tea, and we ditch that nonsensical 'tisane' term for the more natural, obvious term 'tean't'.

tea is tea, herbal tea is tean't. duh.

Can herbal tea be detrimental to weight loss?

Hey!

So, I (24f, 5'7, 60kg) drink a lot of green tea, it helps curb my appetite and fulfils some of my water intake for the day. I often have a few cups of tea during the day then dinner, the odd day I'd have a 2 egg omelette for brunch - but in all, generally pretty consistent decent calorie count for the day.

However, it wasn't until I ran out of my regular tea and stopped drinking it for a few days, same meals, just more plain water than normal, I saw a shift on the scales that has since stuck.

So, my question is, is tea affecting my weight loss? Or is this coincidental? I've read caffeine both helping and hindering weight loss but I didn't think tea was that significant. I'm aiming for a bit more weight loss so any insight on tea effects would be great!

Edit: Thanks for your input! Tea seems to be fine by majority so I'll start exploring other factors!

Vegetal milk with herbal tea CBD ?

I bought some CBD herbal tea. They told me that I have to put fat into the water in order to capture the active CBD. They told me about a teaspoon of oil or cow milk. I am vegetarian and dont like cow milk. Do you know if almond milk would do the same effect of keeping the CBD in the water ? And or/ coconut fat ?

In parallel, they warn me to cover the teapot in order to prevent the active cbd to evaporate. Any other advices in order to keep the best of CBD herbal tea ?

Recently switched to loose leaf teas but can't find herbal loose leaf I enjoy. Any suggestions?

I've been drinking tea for years but just recently got into loose leaf. With tea bags, I really preferred herbal teas and never found black/green/oolongs I was really happy with. Now with loose leaf, I've found several black, oolong, darjeeling teas I love but seem to be unhappy with the herbal teas. They don't seem to have as good of flavor as the tea bags. I want to switch because Im having trouble getting tea bags shipped to my home.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions in buying herbal loose leaf teas or making the transition from bags to loose leaf?

If it helps, my favorite herbal teas are Bigelow's steep - hibiscus rooibos or green tea pomegranate, celestial seasonings Vermont maple ginger or honey camomile, or greenfield's red ginger.

What herbal teas should one have or avoid when recovering? What's some good herbs?

I was drinking peppermint tea earlier and have been reading interesting reports on how peppermint can be antimicrobial against some species of bacteria. This has made me wondering about what herbs one should drink when recovering from sibo after antibiotics.

Would peppermint prevent beneficial bacteria from growing back for example?

Can I make my own herbal tea capsules?

I've been drinking dandelion tea to help with water retention (yes I already drink a lot of water to help that, but it's not enough, probably because I consume a lot of salt and I don't want to let go of it), and it's great but it takes a lot of time to drink, and I don't usually have time for it on work days.

I also want to try spearmint tea because I read the anti-androgen effects can be helpful for hormonal acne (I am already doing a lot to remedy it but would love to speed it up). But I definitely can't fit another 1-2 cups of tea into my day. There are some spearmint capsules on the market but they're really expensive especially as they have to ship internationally to Australia, same with some 'herbal diuretic' capsules that contain dandelion.

I want to make my own capsules - I could bulk buy empty capsules, and maybe one of those capsule-holder-filling-trays that pharmacists use, or borrow/buy a precision scale for consistency. It would save a lot of time to replace a cup of tea with a pill!

I'm just not sure if it's okay to digest tea leaves like that rather than steep them? And I'm also not sure if I'd be able to fit enough of it into a capsule, because I use 2 dandelion tea bags and there's a looot of tea leaves in them. Maybe factories make them concentrated in some way? Is there a way to do that myself? I have a blender if that helps, it could possibly reduce the volume a little bit.

I tried googling this first but couldn't find any answers. I'd love to know if anybody has any experience or has done some research into this.

Thank you :)

P.S. If this kind of post isn't allowed, I'm happy to take it down

First Time making a Herbal Tea

I thought I would share my experience of making a Herbal Tea from scratch for the first time. It was my first time making any herbal remedy. A couple of days ago there was a discussion on the subreddit about chronic migraine remedies and one redditor shared their recipe so I decided to give it a go. So I ordered Skullcap, Chamomile and Lemon Balm from a supplier I use in Ireland where I am from. I already had the Fever Few. I ordered on Sunday and got today so that was great!

I was so excited so I began after my Tuesday Zoom meditation. Opened the Skullcap bag and put a teaspoon into a cup, then opened the Lemon Balm and put a teaspoon in. Was about to open the chamomile when I knocked over the Lemon Balm and a lot of it ended up on the floor and the table 😡 Swept that up and continued on with the chamomile and fever few. Then I realised that I didn't have any kind of strainer or infuser so I searched in the cutlery draw and found a slotted spoon. So I used that and the lid of a re-useable coffee cup to strain it.

I've probably done it all wrong because I hadn't really read anything about how to actually make herbal teas from scratch. And I probably should have let the herbs infuse a little longer but it actually tasted all right.

I'll definitely try making this again. Minus the knocking over the herbs πŸ˜‚
