Anybody interested in mixing world/cultural/anime music (specifically Asian) with heavy metal? HMU

For example I have a Ruan guitar (zhongruan) and have no idea what I’m doing lol but I know what I’m doing with an electric guitar for metal. I think it’s be really cool to find a way to mix Asian type music with heavy metal kinda like how System of a Down mixing Arminian music in their metal.

Heavy metal music hasn’t gotten worse, it’s fanbase has

I’m into all kinds of music, not just metal, but whenever I try to talk to a metal fan online they usually seem to think that all music is garbage apart from underground death metal and black metal. They are really unwelcoming of new and casual metal fans and will just shit on popular bands and criticize people for liking them, and call them β€œpOsErS” if they don’t listen to a certain underground death metal band yet when other people do start listening to that band they don’t like them anymore because now too many people are listening to that band. Pathetic.

I'm black and mostly listen to heavy rock and metal music. Is that weird?

For most of my life, I grew up listening to rock and metal music thanks to the internet. When I was a kid, my parents were pretty religious at the time and they only listened to gospel music and a little bit of secular music like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. I wasn't exposed to hip hop or R&B so I didn't know who 2Pac, Biggie, Beyonce, Jay-Z,etc were until the 6th grade. I was pretty much harassed and bullied for it and was considered the weird kid. I couldn't really get into it because it seemed pretty vulgar at the time and didn't know any that wasn't (minus Beyonce). My parents probably wouldn't have allowed me to listen to it anyways. I ended up liking rock music more because of the beats, the guitar solos, and the lyrics. I also felt actual emotions when listening to it as well. Fast forward to today, I'm a bit more open to the genres and many others since I no longer have any religious influence on me and a bit nonchalant about the music I listen to. However, I still mainly listen to heavy rock music. As a black guy is that weird? I was never able to really fit in with people and black culture itself.

Hey Children of Bodom Fans - Is High Intellect Tied to Heavy Metal & Classical Music?

This is something I've read a lot about, heard a lot about and have been asked a lot about for at least 20 years. Below are links to 2 articles (of many) that touch on the matter. Like Classical and Metal, Jazz and Bluegrass are complex and require a ton of practice and talent, but repeatedly, high intellect has been linked to Metal & Classical genres.

Something tells me Bodom fans are more than qualified to provide insight on the subject.

"Its not as heavy as their previous music, so it sucks." - why I hate rock and metal community

"Its not as heavy as their previous music, so it sucks."

That about sums it up. You can see this literally everywhere. It makes me pretty mad. Those people totally discredit the other qualities - improvement in lyrics, better instrumentals, better production quality etc. And just say it sucks because its less heavy. Even though its better in literally every way compared to their previous music.

I guess people want heavy music with bad production quality, shitty lyrics, boring instrumentals, and they want every album to be the same.

PSA: Don't play Heavy Metal music at full volume at 7 in the morning. Some people may not have gotten home until 11 in the fucking night!

I've been staying at my mom's house for the weekend cause my car broke down and I've been borrowing one of theirs. Last night was an incredibly stressful and busy day at work and I got home at 11 and went to bed at 1 in the morning.

So imagine how fun it was to be woken up at 7 a.m. with heavy metal music blasting. I usually don't even wake up until 9 or 10, and even then, my own place is quiet for a while.

Today's gonna be a lovely day cause now I didn't get a full sleep and I have an even longer shift at work today.

On behalf of all late workers, fuck early risers.

The video was pretty short and had people being eaten by all sorts of skeleton-zombie characters. The title of Pearl Jam - do the evolution looked really similar to the art I saw in the video. There might have been have been a scene of a person falling of a building but I’m Not sure. I think I Searched β€œSkeletons” or something basic like that and that video showed up, so the video might have been pretty popular, I don’t surf for video that much I only clicked the first results.

I don't know how to explain it well, but music that not many would flock to. It's like the lyrical type of music won't suffice, or does't match a certain scenario. For an example look up "Pilotredsun" soundtracks on Youtube.

Do you listen to metal/heavy rock, and what is your level of music knowledge?

Music knowledge can be anything from playing an instrument to studying music theory. Instrument-wise, I would consider intermediate level to be about high school level of performing, whether you're in high school or not.

I had an interesting conversation with my friends about why certain people like certain kinds of music, and we're guessing that music knowledge plays a part in it. I'll do this poll for a few other genres to see if there's a pattern.
