Have you tried them? Did they make a difference?
Hey guys, I'm pulling the trigger and trying to buy a hardtop but I know they're hard as hell to find. I know one guy in Portland is selling one (messaged), but I want to know if anyone else knows of any for sale right now
I purchased a 2009 Audi TT 2.0t soft-top convertible about 2 years ago, and the fabric top has been destroyed by the Texas sunlight. The fabric shrunk and has separated from the rear windshield, so it leaks and rattles, and there's no way I'll be able to stretch it out. Instead of paying to have a new soft top installed, I would love to convert it to a removable hard top, but I have no idea how to go about doing it. I've googled it, called convertible repair shops in my area, looked up any youtube video's explaining how it can be done, and I've found nothing. I'm starting to think no one has actually tried converting an '09 TT to a hard top...
I have a couple options I'm looking into. Most ideal is that I find a shop that is knowledgeable on this topic, and a hard top that I can purchase that fits on the '09 TT. I have been unsuccessful in finding either of those. If anyone has recommendations for body shops that do custom work in the San Antonio area, I would love to hear them! If you know anything about compatible hardtop replacements, I would love that info as well!
My other option is to trade in my TT for an actual hardtop version. I am about half way through paying off the loan on my car. I know the issues with the soft top is going to instantly depreciate the trade in value, so I'm not sure if I want to trade it or get the top replaced. I love this car, and I can see myself driving it for years, which is why I ideally would like to keep it.
We all know hard tops for NAs and NBs are coveted, with aftermarket pricing rising to crazy levels. My question though, is why?
My enjoyment driving the Miata when Iβm driving top down has to be 5x greater than top up. The open air, the sounds of the engine, I feel more connected to the environment and the road...itβs what makes a Miata a Miata in my mind.
So what is it for everyone else? Is it because I live in a land of no winter? Does the added rigidity really make the driving experience that much better? Is it about looks? Added security when parked?
Would love to hear feedback on this.
