Could any European historians - preferably specializing in WWII history - help me trace my Great Grandfather, Grandfather, and Great Uncle through Poland, The Ukraine, Italy, and England during WWII?

I am sorry if it sounds like a lot to ask, but my family are very involved with investigating our ancestors from Poland.

My grandfather told my mother he studied in medical school in Italy, and served in the Polish Underground Resistance. He told us of his father owning a road construction company, and not much else. We are not sure where in Poland he is from, but I am just trying to get a timeline from some of these documents we have found.

I have a discharge certificate with army no. 30040168 and the effective date of discharge being 3/10/47 but the records office stamp says 25 FEB 1948, Witley Camp, Godalming Surrey.

Another note we have is dated May 19, 1952 written by Wladyslaw Anders, certifying that he served under his command in the 2nd Polish Corps in Italy and was decorated with the Bronze Cross of Merit with Swords. It also notes that he received a military grant and studied Medicine in the Bologna University, Italy.

What I am confused about between those two documen

New here. Great grandfather, grandfather, and father all died from smoking.

My grandfather died of smoking related cancer. My father recently died of lung cancer from smoking. I heard that my great grandfather died of smoking related causes, but don't know the details. Why I didn't quit immediately when my father died I don't know. I have quit for a week or two weeks many times but I want to do it this time. Last night I threw away half a pack, and I just pulled them from the trash and chain smoked the whole thing. It's 3:00 am.

Tomorrow it starts again, there are none in the house and I just have to not go buy them. I'm also two weeks into not drinking, but this 'deal with one problem at a time' attitude has cause alternating between the two in the past. Quitting drinking was actually my excuse to start again last week, I figured that whatever I had to do to not drink was ok- even going to buy cigarettes. It didn't help. I'm still sober, but the cigarettes didn't make anything easier, they just made me start slipping into feeling like shit again. If anythin

My 4th great grandfather had two kids named James what are the odds that one was adopted?

Let's call him John. John had two sons named James, one given the middle name of "Givens". The two have different birthdates and different death dates but there are enough sources to suggest two James' under one roof. They lived in an area heavily populated by people of the same last name. So much so that they started going by their job titles to differentiate different people, so I can't fathom the idea of naming two of his sons James when there were already plenty of folk around who shared their exact names.

Doing a bit more research, my 6th great grandfather (grandfather of John) married a widow whose ex-was had the surname Givens. Is it possible the Givens family remained close with mine and that the James with the middle name "Givens" could actually be adopted FROM that very same family?

How often is it that an adopted child is given their former surname as their middle name while inheriting the surname of the adoptive family?

Entitled neighbor let their friends build a hunting nest on my Great Grandfather's property and refused to take it down

This is an old story that happened in the 80s. My uncle told me what happened only once. So this is basically pieces together from memory. But in the 80s some people who lived in the local area just up and decided they wanted to hunt deer on my family property and not ask permission to do so.

My great grandfather (Henceforth known as GG) was a pretty good guy. But he was not someone you wanted to cross. He grew up in the great depression, and had no patience for certain kinds of people. That said, he would try and do whatever it took to resolve things on his own before doing anything drastic. One day while driving his truck through the forest part of his property, he saw a hunting nest built up in one of his trees. He took it down himself since the ones who built it were not there. However a week or so later it was back in the tree as the hunters had rebuilt it.

GG asked around and found out the hunters were not actually neighbors, but friends of a neighbor that was letting them come

My great grandfather used to visit his wife in a Alzheimer's home and leave a rose on her bed everyday up till his passing. He would say my great grandma would think angels left the roses because they're looking after her. He really loved so much.

Pre WWII Wooden House in Tawau. I was back in Tawau a while ago and was surprised this house was still standing. My Great Grandfather Patrick Chung had lived in this house during the 1930's when he was the Assistant District Officer of the Tawau Residency. Must have been a pretty house back then.

This cabin was built by my great grandfather, round medows area. It's not in our family anymore. Grandpa has been dead for many years but if he knew saw that he wouldn't say a word. Instead he would pull that flag down and wipe his ass with it and walk away.

I found my great grandfathers journal from 1946 with a very interesting take on world events as well as some football. Obviously he was a very smart man. He died when I was around 16 of Alzheimer's. He seems to have lost interest in this journal around mid February.

Pictures of my Great Grandfathers siblings don't add up. One of them died in 1917, but he is in a photo that says it is from 1920.

First let me apologize for a long post. This has been bothering me for years. Below is a slimmed down amount of information that I hope gives enough details to help with this puzzle I face.

Here are the images I need help with: https://imgur.com/gallery/yA5tdrf

The picture with 2 men, 1 woman, and 3 children says the following: 1920 Aunt Rose - Bill Grant ^(this is written in red ink, and doesn't look 100 years old)

I think Bill Grant must have been William Frances Grant (1901-1948), but if he was born in 1901 he couldn't have fathered the children in the photo by 1920.

Then the other photo is clearly the man on the far right in the group photo. The backside comment (attached image since I cannot make out all the text myself) looks like it was originally marked as Willie Grant. Willie was crossed out and under they wrote George.

Here are my problems:

  1. George died in 1917, so he couldn't have been in a photo in 1920.
  2. Was William Frances Grant using the nickname Bill,
