TL;DR: Don't die in the boss room, you'll get booted for inactivity if it takes too long for your teammates to finish the encounter. (But only sometimes.. because cheeseforever's fireteam member didn't in their video. cooooool)
EDIT: I guess you have to go in your menus (unhelpful for your fireteam, but ok) / push buttons that don’t do anything to re-trigger the afk timer. Bungie, plz. Interacting with your camera angle and switching to your fireteam's bodies should count as movement.
2nd edit: all the upvotes! I wish I could give everyone who has experienced bad AFK juju here a hug. I’ll share an upvote instead. Share those stories! Let’s get AFK timers improved!
3rd edit: 15 hours later... did it again. LET'S GO, COMPLETION #2 GUY GOT HIS TRIUMPH. YES
My clanmates and I just completed the grandmaster Glassway and in the boss fight were at the final phase, and one of our fireteam members died. We were past the 30 min mark, so no revives. They then got booted for inactivity after dying while we were finishing up the last phase. Because dead ghosts can't move, there wasn't activity in terms of "movement" obviously despite him making callouts from his camera angle on his ghost :(. He was moving his camera, switching to our field of view too to watch our backs. So he was active.
We ended up beating it, but the 3rd member who got booted due to not being able to do anything while dead couldn't join back up due to locked fireteams.. and clearly didn't get the triumph for their hard work :////
I posted on Bungie Forums to see if they'll do anything to reward the guy his triumph.. but my guess is nothing will come out of it apart from "get good, don't die"... but anything else anyone can suggest we do to try to get our 3rd their triumph? We're going to re-run it tomorrow to get it again but dammmmn, it felt bad man finishing it after he got booted.
I hope you guys find it helpful. I get asked this question frequently in coaching and generally, so I thought I'd just make a guide video on it.
If anyone has any questions they'd like to ask I'd be glad to discuss anything you like!
Just for comparison, Exodous Crash had over 19,000 complete the GM last week. My team and I completed it on our 7th try after some trial and error.
Do you think this GM is too hard, or do you think the difficulty is justified because of it being a GM? Interested to hear others thoughts.

Edit 2: Now under 5,000.

Hey, I hope this helps out. I will be going over each champion type, the ways to stun and patterns to look out for. I will also leave a detailed video link as well, with a timestamp for each champion. Full Vid -here
Weapons - Scout Rifles, Auto Rifles, Divinity
For Scout Rifles, I highly recommend having Explosive Payload (+10% damage Headshot, 15% Body Shot) (very consistent splash damage which covers a great area) or Vorpal Weapon (15% damage against Bosses and Ultras which is what Champions fall under). Rapid Fire Frames Scouts (260 RPM) attached with Major Spec (7.8% damage) in mod slot. I personally do not recommend auto rifles, since overload round proc halfway through the magazine.
Kinetic Slot Scouts - Patron of Lost Causes, Nightwatch, The Guiding Sight, The Scholar, Transfiguration, Talons of the Eagle.
Energy Slot Scouts - Trustee, Royal Chase (rolls are not the greatest, but very usable)
Here is a clip showing for the curated Nightwatch that drops from the New Light Quest with Extended Mag/Overflow/Explosive Payload Nightwatch curated
Abilities - Solar/Stasis Grenades
Divinity - This weapon has built-in overload rounds and as soon it hits an overload champion, it will stun it. I always recommend to burst the shots instead of holding down the trigger, it will help reduce ammo consumption.
Tips on OVERLOAD - You should usually wait for the champion to teleport and then go in for the stun in the brief moment when it's not moving. While the champion is down, there will be a noticeable halo around its neck, you have that window to do damage. You can’t stun it again while it has that halo. Crucial part here - as long as you pace your overload rounds and stagger the champion, it will not teleport until you stun it again, the video has a great example of that. There are times when the champion may teleport once but would not heal right away.
Here is the vid part for Overload Vid
Took a year hiatus during Year 3 so I have only gotten around to trying out Grandmasters with my friends. We hit up every strike and got the title. Wasn’t easy especially Scarlet Keep and The Glassway.
Anyway, once there is more incentive to run these Strikes instead of bashing your head against a controller for 40 minutes for some materials, more people will flock to Grandmasters once real loot is on the line.
People will be in for a surprise and I can foresee the community asking for adjustments like drops in Light Level etc.
Grandmaster Nightfalls have there problems too. But that is a discussion for another topic.
They have been under the radar because of lack of incentive as people haven’t even bothered playing them for the most part.
Ok, so GGG said 11 new maps, but https://web.poecdn.com/protected/image/echoes/screenshots/Panel4/Screenshot1.jpg?key=fy1a0GUJ4gzD44M49RhADA
has only 164, so 1 map was removed from Atlas and after little search, you can see in valdo's rest Promenade Map without HoG
GlassWay GrandMaster Walkthrough (In Depth)
This is not the only way to complete the GrandMaster, but here's what I found to be simple for any fireteam. So let's start :) Full Vid Breakdown here
#Nightfall Ordeal - GlassWay Modifiers
#Suggestions for Team Synergies
##Team A: Main Goal, Orb chain for supers and resistance.
##Team B: Main Goal, survivability in each room, orb chain. Finished first try with this one
##Team C: Main Goal, Same as B but with two Titans.
Was on by far the best run of Scarlet Keep I had had this weekend, the last Grandmaster I need, when one of my teammates got weaseled and basically killed the entire run. I get that they don't want people to join and leave, but it's ridiculous that someone can get an error code and it ruins the entire strike. Can we PLEASE have some kind of allowance for people who get the error code to re-join?
Added an Edit 3 at the bottom, I wasn't very clear on something. Probably important to read Edit 2/3 in order to accurately see what I'm trying to say.
Look at GSL for example, regardless of what year it is and the balance at that time the same pros keep making it into GSL, Dark, Rogue, Trap, Stats, InnoVation, Maru, etc, etc.
These top level players are THAT good. Even if their race is the weakest they’ll still make it in. In 2018 I believe it was Maru won FOUR GSLs in a row! Does this mean Terran was broken? Imo this doesn’t indicate that, it indicates that Maru is a beast! Serral the same year won 3 WCS events in a row and Blizzcon. Completely different race.
The pro scene IMO shows how good individuals are, not race, the sample size is too small to show what the “best” race is anyways. If we go down a level to Grandmaster, sure they’re not pros, but they are still the top 0.1~0.2%, the 99.8th~99.9th percentile.
There are some exceptions. For example it’s probably considered easier to purely cannon rush to GM, than to Proxy Rax or 12 Pool there in every match-up and there are a few Protoss that do that which skews the Protoss GM numbers a bit higher, even though you can’t realistically cannon rush every game up to pro level so that IMO is not a strong indicator that Protoss is the strongest race at the highest level, that’s more of an exception.
Looking at Rankedftw.com last year IMO this shows that Protoss is the strongest race. Not by the same extent rankedftw shows though because it’s slightly skewed with cannon rushers and I know a certain player cannon rushed multiple barcode accounts into GM so you have 1 player taking up multiple spots skewering the data. As a side note I don’t think it’s logical to blame race on losses though, if Serral & Maru are beating 7K Protoss players, you are not losing to a 4K Protoss because their race is broken.
So long story short I think balance patches, should be based on GM as a whole, that may actually balance the pro level better than only looking at pros. For example nerfing Reapers when only ByuN was winning TvZ consistently with 3 Rax Reaper, Maru tried and even HE wasn’t able to pull it off. The units were not broken, ByuN was that good. When Serral won 3 WCS in 2018 and Maru won 4 GSLs the same year those races shouldn’t be nerfed because those individuals are that good. If GSL was all of a sudden 5 of one race, 8 of one and 11 of the other then sure the race with only 5 could probably use a buff.... keep reading on reddit ➡
