Illinois TE Luke Ford's Grandfather Passes Away Without Ever Getting to See Him Play Due to NCAA Transfer Ruling

Link to tweet from Luke Ford himself:

https://twitter.com/lukeredx97/status/1229951370159165440?s=20

>My Grandpa just passed on to a better place in heaven. Love you Papa! I’m sorry you didn’t get to see me play in person, my heart is devastated... Rest in Paradise 🌴 ❀️

"Ford, the top-rated recruit in Illinois in the Class of 2018, transferred from Georgia in January 2019, citing his grandfather’s poor health and a hope to play closer to his family’s home in downstate Carterville. The NCAA in April denied Ford’s initial request to play immediately, and his family hired a lawyer and worked with Illinois to appeal."

In his grandfather's overcoat pocket, a man finds a ticket for shoes left for repair in 1955

A man is cleaning out his grandfathers home after the grandfather passed away at 90.
In one of the grandfathers old overcoats pockets he finds a ticket for some shoes that the grandfather had left to be repaired, dated from 1955.
In curiosity the man checks online and is surprised to see that the shoe shop was still in business and is still at the same location.
The man enters the shop and starts talking to the owner. The owner explains that he is, in fact, the grandson of the original owner and has worked in the shop all his life.
The man gives the ticket to the shop owner and he heads into the back of the shop just to see if the shoes are still there.
After some time he returns from the back of the and exclaims "Amazingly I was able to find the shoes! They will be ready on Monday."

AITA for missing the birth of my first child so a mate could spend time with her dying grandfather?

This is a horrible situation and I need to know if my wife is justified.

My wife gave birth to our first baby 3 days ago. We've had a rough few years with 2 miscarriages and a stillbirth at 37 weeks. So my wife was terrified this whole pregnancy. I am a firefighter and was on duty when my wife went into labour. Her doctor said that it would likely be a while so I decided to stay at the base for a little longer because it is about mayhem and we're never enough people anyway. Then one of my mates gets a call that her grandfather had a heart attack and will probably not make it. Obviously she was devastated. Things got really hectic we got called out to another fire and our captain said one of us could go but not both. I told my colleague not to worry she should go and spend time with her grandfather since it will be her last chance. So I had to go out and missed the birth of my child. I got there 2 hours after my girl was born. I felt horrible and apologised profusely to my wife but s

PART 4: FINAL

There are certain things you just can’t forget. You must’ve seen those clips of old musicians, deep in the grips of Alzheimer’s, who spring to life when they hear an old tune, suddenly able to find the correct keys on the piano even when they can’t even remember their own name.

For my grandfather, it was languages: he might not remember much, might not be able to tell an old friend from a nurse, but if you spoke to him in French or Italian, Mandarin or Arabic, he’d reply fluently without missing a beat.

Even if it was just to ask where he was.

Or who you were.

I don’t know quite how many languages he actually knew. It must have been upwards of a dozen, easily

My grandfather was murdered in a series of robberies and it was never solved.

This story is part of a collaborative project between Project: Cold Case and a University of North Florida Journalism class. The student credited above wrote this story as a class project.

Herbert Donnell Scott was a tinkerer who always wanted to own a hardware store in the small town of Acworth, Georgia. His family and friends called him Don, and they knew how much he loved getting his hands dirty – building antique cars and cutting stones to make jewelry for his wife.

Don retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers after 36 years as a soil analyst during the construction of the Panama Canal. It was there, in Panama, that he would develop a love for geology.

Mrs. Scott would often tease her husband about his love of rocks, saying he was the only man she knew who was paid to make mud pies for a living. Rebecca, Don’s daughter, couldn’t help but laugh when recalling stories just like that. SheΒ  was 21 years old when her father was killed. Her brother Chris was 18.

It was October 28

SΓ‘pmi is the cultural region of the SΓ‘mi indigenous people. My grandmother and grandfather on my moms side are SΓ‘mi and consider it it’s own unofficial nation, while most people don’t really know about it i still think it’s kinda cool.

Here is a picture of my Grandfather George O. Whitaker who was a paleontologist. He discovered the largest mass grave of the coelophysis dinosaur in 1947. This picture was in the late 30's in his bedroom of his parents house. The horse skeleton next to him was named Napoleon Boneyparts.

Mum is pressuring me to bank transfer her all my grandfather's money without his knowledge

TL;DR I have access to my grandfather's bank accounts. My mum wants me to transfer all his money to her.

Background: I have power of attorney for my grandfather. His memory and financial understanding are very poor, and he doesn’t trust my mum. I help sort out his mail, use comparison sites to get a good price for insurance, and set up savings accounts for him. Mum is not an evil person, but does have loose morals (thinks tax dodging is okay, very nosy as to how wealthy he is). In the UK, if you need to go to an old folks’ home, it’s only paid for by the government if you don’t have savings. It can cost Β£20k a year. In his will, he has left his home to my brothers and I, and his money to my mum. She is an only child. His home is worth less than his bank account.

Paragraph of extra detail you can skip over if you're busy: He can be very difficult, he is convinced he is very poor and I regularly remind him he can have the heating on all week, and buy whatever food he likes

I am paying on a loan my grandfather signed for; he died 5 years ago. Can I stop paying?

He signed for the loan in 2005. I am listed as the student, but the Promissory note the lender sent me in the mail this week lists no co-signer; just my grandfather as the signer.

The original loan was through Key Bank Campus Door Loan Program. It's now serviced by AES. Their website seems to indicate that the loan can be discharged if the borrower is deceased. His estate was settled years ago. I've reached out to the lender, but I think the correct course of action is to submit the death certificate, have the loan discharged, and then be done?

Does that sound about right?

Anakin is the Chosen One: He saved his son's life and destroyed the Sith.. and if he didn't save Luke... then Luke never would've trained Leia.. and Leia never would’ve trained Rey.. and Rey never would’ve faced her grandfather.. bringing balance to the force again - it all starts with Anakin.

After her grandfather read about the discovery, Venetia, who enjoyed mythology, said the planet was in a region similar to the dark, remote underworld ruled by the Roman god Pluto.
