(Update) My [21M] girlfriend's [21F] grandfather is a Michelin Star chef and is visiting. I am supposed to cook for them but I cannot cook. What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Original

Hey guys. Thank you all for your advice. My gf's grandfather came and we had our dinner yesterday, so this is an update to that post. I just want to say first, I am drunk, so please excuse any typos.

Anyway, I was really freaked out all summer about wanting to impress him. I was seriously considering pulling the Skinner scam and buying takeout and disguising it, but I decided to just go for trying to make something myself. I spend pretty much all of July trying to make steak. I started with cheap stuff, and it was really, *really* hard at first, but I learned from my mistakes.

I wanted to go all out, so I bought really nice steak to make when the day came. I made three. One for all of us, and it ended up being better than I hoped, though obviously not Michelin Star quality. I also brought some really expensive (at least f

My late Grandfathers favorite joke

There was an American wrestler from Texas named John, who throughout his high school career had never lost a match. As he went on into college he continued undefeated. He became a national icon and symbol of American strength.

News began to circulate of a Russian wrestler who was fierce and unstoppable. As each wrestlers legends grew, a match was set up between the two, America versus Russia. The match would be held in Texas.

John began training immediately. Every day his coach would tell him, β€œThis Russian has a move called the Mongolian Death Grip. No one has ever escaped the Mongolian Death Grip. DO NOT let him get you in the Mongolian Death Grip”

The day of the match finally came. Just before each wrestler stepped onto the mat in front of the capacity crowd, the coach once again said, β€œWhatever you do, do not let him get you in the Mongolian death grip. No one has ever escaped the Mongolian death grip”.

Four seconds into the match, the Russian had the American in the Mongolian

[UPDATE] I sent the only footage of my grandfather who passed away 2 weeks ago into a shop to have it converted from VHS to USB. I’m starting to think it’s a front for something or other. They won’t give it back.

(Link to original post)

Last time I went in they told me it still wasn’t ready and to come back on Friday (yesterday), and so I went back but it was, unsurprisingly, closed. I went today, Saturday, this time with my mum as my backup. We told the woman behind the counter that we wanted our VHS back, she still tried to insist that it wasn’t ready, and that she couldn’t give it back. We mentioned that this was the seventh time we had been now, each time being assured it would be ready, and (paraphrasing here) that this was the last straw. Eventually she gave in and got the tape for us- she hadn’t even began to get it converted, whether that was by sending it off or otherwise, it was still in the small back room they had. We even got our money back!

So! No USB, but we DO have the VHS back, which is a relief.

Thank you to everyone who offered advice and even off

The time my (ex) SO refused to acknowledge me during my grandfather's funeral because I didn't do his laundry.

I recently casually mentioned this story to a friend and they were appalled. It's been years since breaking up with this SO, but I'm now finally understanding how messed up he was and how much damage he did to me emotionally.

This particular incident happened about a month after us moving in together. We were getting ready for my grandpa's funeral and he had a work shift later that afternoon. He asked me to put his laundry in the wash in the basement before we left, or else he would "have no clothes for work" since he hadn't done it himself prior. Being in a bit of a hurry, I said I didnt have time since I was still getting ready. He went to put the load in and I thought nothing of it...

Until we were driving to the cemetery. I tried talking to him a bit, but no response. Finally, it dawned on me that he was mad, but I wasn't sure why. I asked him what was wrong and if he was mad and he said yes, he was very mad. After all, I'd denied him one simple request (the laundry) and had app

My girlfriend (22F) wants me (25M) to marry her grandfather

First of all, im sorry if this sounds confusing, English isn't my first language. But I really need to hear opinions on this.
So today, out of the blue, my long term gf sent me a message saying that she discovered something interesting.
That interesting thing was that her grandfather, who is almost 90yo, a widower and retired, has some kind of pension for the spouse. This pension is lifelong, and is more than our country's minimum wage.
So what was she suggesting?

That I married her grandfather, collecting the pension as a lifelong, complementary bonus for our wages.
Of course I was shocked and asked her if she was joking.
She wasnt. She's serious. She says that the downside is that we'll never be able to legally marry, as I need to stay a widower to receive the pension.
She also informed me that she talked to her mother about it and she also thought it was fine and a smart move.
I told her that I couldnt believe what I was reading, and she pretty much answered m

Bingoed by my grandfather..ended up pleasantly surprised.

I was visiting my grandparents yesterday and my grandpa asked me "when am I going to get more great grandchildren" so I replied with the obvious, "idk but they won't be from me if at all possible" and to my surprise he turned around and told me "well, I don't blame you, in a time like this I can't imagine why anyone would want to bring a child into it all" so when I explained that adding the added stress to my already stressful life and not being 100% on board with having a child would just lead to resentment I got a "you're completely right" from him and my grandma and that was the end of it. I am still so shocked that it went over like that, but am so pleased.

I just wish everyone could understand and be this easy to deal with.

My [21M] girlfriend's [21F] grandfather is a Michelin Star chef and is visiting. I am supposed to cook for them but I cannot cook. What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Update

Context: Been together since around March 2019. Yeah I love her with all my heart.

First of all, please do not judge me. Yes I am a 21 year old man, but look, I just cannot cook. Sure I can make something like *very* basic pasta, a boiled egg, etc... but I absolutely cannot make anything where you have to prepare multiple ingredients. When I cook, the food dateis either done or its not done. I have no experience with "doneness." I do have my redeeming skills, but cooking is just not one of them. I have tried following recipes word for word, but just have had no luck.

My girlfriend and I are both rising seniors in college, and I have my own apartment near campus where we will be meeting for dinner. When I agreed to make something, I thought I could just bullshit something, but then when I mentioned it to my GFs brother (who I'm

I just found out my LGBTphobic grandfather is coming to visit next week... I'm not out yet, but I just got my ears pierced and have been growing my hair out, so I look fairly androgynous. Definitely more fem than he probably expects. I'm a bit scared. I know he's going to yell at/insult me about it.

TIFU by laughing at my grandfather's funeral, whcih caused for my whole family to get kicked out of our church.

This happened a few years ago. English is not my first language.

My grandfather never was a loving person. He married his cousin in an arranged marriage, they had 9 children. He was an okay father, but strict and authoritarian. He was really cold and would not spend money on anything he didn't think was absolutely necessary. As he grew older he became deaf and half-blind. On top of that, after my grandmother's death he became an alcoholic, and so his children organized themselves so that he would not spend his days aloneβ€” one daughter would spend weekdays with him, while the other children would take turns on the weekends. This meant that every two months we would have to spend two days at his awful-smelling house trying to stop him from getting drunk, watching whatever he chose to watch on TV (mostly soccer or bullfighting) and cleaning the messes he made. He was miserable, and though we tried to help, no one seemed to be able to. A few years later, he ultimately ended up in the hosp

The Princess Bride: When the kid says that Grandfather is reading the story wrong, he’s right. Sort of.

So, I love The Princess Bride but I’ve never read the book, but I have read some of the differences between the movie and the book, and a couple of the things in the book sounded a bit violent. For example, instead of shrieking eels, there were sharks in the water when Buttercup jumped ship, and Vizzini threw a cup of HIS OWN BLOOD into the water to attract them.

Or when Inigo Montoya kills Count Ruben, he CUTS HIS HEART OUT saying he felt as if his own heart was cut out the day Ruben killed his father.

In the movie neither of these things happen. My theory is that the Grandfather toned down those more violent parts in the book when reading it to the Grandson because he was so young.

They tore up my grandfather's garden. He tore up their car.

My dad told me this story a few years back.

My Grandfather lived in a really rual area in Georgia. This was around the late 1930s early 1940.

My grandfather owned a farm and had a garden. He had planted various veggies.

Well the only neighbors were about a mile away. And for some reason the neighbors would drive their Model T through the garden, tearing up the veggies. My grandpa would have to replant the garden.

The neighbors kept doing this.

So here comes the revenge part.

My grandfather dug holes around the garden and stuck metal poles into the holes. He covered up the holes with leaves.

A few days later the neighbors drove through again. My dad said they tore the undercarriage out and had parts strewn all over the place.

He couldn't remember what happened after that. But I don't think they did that again.
