LPT: Don't use Netflix on Google Chrome. Chrome only allows up to 720p, while Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge allow for 1080p.

PSA: [Google Chrome] Chrome no longer supporting non-pepperflash adobe player

For Google Chrome users: Some players (including myself) have reported bad lag in form of black tiles, damage without being hit, etc, unless one disables the pepperflash plugin at chrome://plugins. This has worked until Chrome / Adobe removed the non-pepflash version sometime this week. Thus, to Google Chrome users familiar with this issue, the bug is back and beware going into godlands or what not if you insist on playing with Chrome. old video showing the bug

Does anyone know of a fix for Google Chrome users for this bug after the Chrome / Adobe changes?

tl;dr Chrome is messed up again.

Edit: A temporary quick fix suggested by DocmanCC works for me. After following his steps and restarting Chrome, be sure to go back to chrome://plugins and disable pepperflash and pepflash debugger, leaving only the NPAPI flash player plugin.

How to Re-Enable NPAPI for Google Chrome:

  • In Chrome's address bar, paste (or type): chrome://flags/#enable-npapi

  • Find "Enable NPAPI Mac, Windows" in the list, and click "Enable," (Please note: if you don't see this option, it might be that your Chrome version hasn't been updated to version 42 or newer.)

  • Click "Relaunch Now" at the bottom of the page.

Please be aware that at some point in the near future Google will remove support for NPAPI plugins entirely, making it impossible to revert to the NPAPI version of Adobe Flash.

Please see comments for pictures if needed.

Alternatively, as others have suggested, it may be time to try to use a different browser.

Google Map Not Showing Current Location Dot in Google Chrome in Windows 10 Laptop.

Hello,

Google Map is not showing the current location dot in Google Chrome.

Chrome Version: 84.0.4147.135 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Location Permission Allowed.

However it works on Firefox and Edge.

Tried "Restore Settings to their Original Defaults". Didn't work.

Uninstalled and Reinstalled Google Chrome. Not working.

Tried to reset the site permission from site settings and also cleared the site cookies. Whenever I am clicking on the "Your Location" button on the bottom right corner just above the zoom in and out button, the map zooms out completely instead of narrowing down to my current location.

Can anyone help me with this?

Device: Acer Aspire VX5 - 591G.

OS: Windows 10 Home 64 Bit.

Google Chrome Stable Busted after update to 62

I just updated Chrome and the browser no longer loads any pages, even flags. To make sure there weren't any problems hidden by the software center I removed the install, deleted my .config files for Chrome, and did a manual pull and build with the same results. Currently stable and beta are the same version (62.0.3202.62), but installing from the beta xml didn't change anything. Unstable is also broken for me.

The only warning I receive during the build is that the suid is set (I was under the impression this is normal)

When I launch the browser via terminal the following is displayed:

Seeing the above message in /var/log/systemlog. Pulling up the _opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash file just gives me a bunch of garbled crap. I don't even know why it's doing this. I previously had a bluetooth dongle dedicated to a PS3 gamepad, but it's no longer even plugged into the system and the bluetooth service is disabled.

GRSecurity Applying Exceptions - Google Chrome

Hello Internet.

I am having some problems applying exceptions with the linux-grsec kernel. According to the wiki, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PaX, I should just be able to set exceptions in /etc/paxd.conf since I have installed the paxd daemon and verify it is running with "systemctl status paxd.service".

I added these exceptions in the /etc/paxd.conf...

PemxR /opt/google/chrome/chrome pemx /opt/google/chrome/nacl_helper emx /opt/google/chrome/chrome-sandbox

I reboot the machine expecting the exceptions to be place but they are not. So I edited the extended attributes as posted in the wiki with...

sudo setfattr -n user.pax.flags -v "PmxeR" /opt/google/chrome/chrome

Reboot and launch chrome, but it continues to crash.

Can anyone help with learning how to set PaX exceptions with the GRSecurity kernel?

Thanks!

Google Chrome Issues on Debian Stable

Good Day to you all! Currently one of my devices runs on a Debian stable 7.2. Basically I already did some basic configurations and when I tried to install google chrome i386 (since I'm using a 32 bit device) dpkg -i says it has dependency problems.

It indicates that the following packages are not installed :

  • lib32gcc1

  • lib32stdc++

  • libc6-i386

  • libcurl3

I've already tried doing :

  • apt-get install -f (I tried using with aptitude also)

  • installing gcc-4.7-multilib (i386 version)

but all has no effect.

I guess some of you here knew this problem since it is Debian stable.

Edit: The problems seems to be from the chrome itself, since the dependency it needed was only for amd64 and the problem was devices using i386 can't install it and receiving a dependency error

related link (for reference)

Update2:

It seems that the problem was not only for debian but also distros that was built from it (I tried mint, and ubuntu and have the same problem).

The problem might came from the latest version of google chrome.

Update3:

Another much more comprehensive discussions (and possibly solutions) about the issue.

Possible Fix:

I guess I'm not the only one here that has a problem in installing/updating google chrome or chromium browsers the only fix that I did ( as advised on the link ) was to install the unstable version of google chrome (or chromium), since the dependency error only persists on the latest stable version 30.0.1599.66 of chrome.

Fix:

(Please Note that the error only persist to version 30.x.x on google chrome/chromium)

$ apt-get download google-chrome-stable
$ dpkg-deb -R google-chrome-stable_30.0.1599.101-1_i386.deb 304017

$ sed -i 304017/DEBIAN/control \

      -e 's/libc6-i386 (>= 2.11), //'

$ sudo chown root:root 304017/opt/google/chrome/chrome-sandbox

Advertisers are starting to abuse the background music in Chrome feature. (Bug needs immediate attention Google!)

My wife was on Nookazon looking to trade for some items and she turned her screen off and put the phone down. About 15 seconds later, we heard an ad for some movie coming out in the near future. I looked at the phone thinking she left her screen on - she didn’t... The phone showed the β€œmusic” notification and showed Nookazon as playing an ad. I hit the pause button and turned the screen off - about a minute and a half later, a new ad queued up and started playing.

This needs to be addressed immediately before advertisers get even smarter. Perhaps a simple prompt: β€œThis site is playing music, do you want it to continue in the background?"

Edit:

I shouldn't have written Bug in the title - it's an abuse of a feature. So effectively, this is a Design Change Request. Regardless, this needs to be addressed ASAHP otherwise you'll have advertisers abuse this (like they already are on Nookazon).

For anyone who can't repo, specifically try that site. If it doesn't work after a minute or two, try letting your screen time out after refreshing. If you still can't repro it, it may be helpful to the engineer who will eventually review this if you leave your phone model and country. So far it's confirmed on Pixel 1 through 4.

Edit 2:

Video proof: https://youtu.be/Ah34oiFBiyg

Also, when I was editing a comment below, Nookazon went in to a background tab. It happened again, I took a second video of it happening here:

Google Chrome slows down Macs even when it isn't running

Short story: Google Chrome installs something called Keystone on your computer, which nefariously hides itself from Activity Monitor and makes your whole computer slow even when Chrome isn’t running. Deleting Chrome and Keystone makes your computer way, way faster, all the time.

Long story: I noticed my brand new 16" MacBook Pro started acting sluggishly doing even trivial things like scrolling. Activity Monitor showed nothing from Google using the CPU, but WindowServer was taking ~80%, which is abnormally high (it should use <10% normally).

Doing all the normal things (quitting apps, logging out other users, restarting, zapping PRAM, etc) did nothing, then I remembered I had installed Chrome a while back to test a website.

I deleted Chrome, and noticed Keystone while deleting some of Chrome's other preferences and caches. I deleted everything from Google I could find, restarted the computer, and it was like night-and-day. Everything was instantly and noticeably faster, and WindowServer CPU was well under 10% again.

Then something else hit me, my family had been complaining about the sluggish performance of a 2015 iMac since practically the day we bought it. I had tried everything I could think of – it had a Fusion drive and the symptoms were consistent with a failing SSD – but drive diagnostics always turned up nothing. We even went as far as to completely wipe and set up the computer fresh multiple times.

Then I remembered, installing Chrome was always one of the first things we did when we set up the computer. I deleted Chrome, and all the files Keystone had littered on the computer, restarted, and it was so snappy it felt like a brand new computer.

Yeah, I realize this sounds like a freakin' infomercial, but it worked so well I spent $5 on a domain name and set up this website even if it makes me sound like a raving nut.

OK that’s weird, how do you delete Chrome and Keystone?

  1. Go to your /Applications folder and drag Chrome to the Trash.
  2. In the Finder click the Go menu (at the top of the screen), then click "Go to Folder...".
  3. Type in /Library and hit enter. (Check the following folders: LaunchAgents, Application Support, Caches, Preferences. Delete all the Google folders, and anything else that starts with com.google... and com.google.keystone...)
  4. Go to "Go to Folder..." again.
  5. Type in ~/Library and hit enter. (Note the "~") (Check the following folders: LaunchAgents, Application Support, Caches, Preferences.Del

I built a Chrome extension to directly save jobs from LinkedIn and Lever to Google Sheets so you can easily organize and keep track of all your job applications

Hey all - I built a Chrome extension that adds a button to LinkedIn and Lever to autosave the job's title, company, and link in a Google Sheet so you can have all your job applications organized in one location. I used to open a bunch of tabs to apply for jobs that I never ended up applying to bc I was either lazy or it got too messy to keep track of. AKA I never went back to that tab again πŸ˜‚

The job hunt is stressful enough / it's easy to get discouraged when Chrome loads 50 tabs for LinkedIn and Lever postings that have expired when you finally get to it. I figured I'd try to build something to make the process simpler.

The extension has really helped me navigate my own job search. (BTW it got approved by the Chrome store yesterday πŸ’ͺ). I wanted to share it with anyone looking for a simple and beneficial tool.

What's great about this extension:

  • It's free forever - just trying to help people find a job
  • No sign up needed - works with your Google account
  • Saves job postings directly to Google Sheets
    • You can customize and edit the spreadsheet however you want
  • Integrates with LinkedIn and Lever
    • Adds a button on the website - no more switching between tabs or copy/paste

Dont use google or chrome for your drug activity (lol!)

I usually chk in ddg when on mobile and tor when on laptop.Accidentally I opened google search and had used it for not more than 3-4 searches yesterday.Today again(negligence) opened google and entered search term there.

Lol.80% of the search results were abt drug addiction ,drug de-addiction centers. There were also a few results abt the harm caused by drugs.Rofl.

On a serious note, what with the storage they have it wont be a surprise if I am flagged some where when I least expect it.

Safest and carefree use is on a laptop with tails and tor.No worries of something biting you unexpectedly.Something that the diligent would do.

Google Chrome spying on keystrokes now?

Maybe this is a huge coincidence but I was searching my music collection on AIMP (an offline music player that you don't login to). I searched for Demiurge by Meshuggah then reloaded youtube's homepage and "Meshuggah Demiurge Guitar Cover" was at the top of my recommended videos. I don't listen to music on Youtube.

Google has been getting (not getting, they already are) out of control with this stuff. My girlfriend and I repeatedly get ads and recommended videos for things we talk about in video calls which is why I'm even bringing this up. I'd think it was a coincidence but I had Chrome open in the background when I searched for the song so who knows.

What are the chances that this is a coincidence vs them now reading keystrokes when I'm in other programs? I feel like I'm paranoid but not without reason. I'm thinking of moving my primary OS to Linux and only using Windows when I really have to and maybe resetting my phone or buying a privacy oriented one and dumping all google accounts. If they're willing to listen through whatever Google's "home assistant" is and they seem to be listening to video calls then it's basically half a step to just listen and monitor through software. What's the moral difference between collecting ambient conversation and "ambient keystrokes"? What a gang of creeps. Even if this is a coincidence data collection has gone way too far.

Funny how a supposed left wing liberal company is happy violating people's privacy like this for money, and then they post condescending political cute google doodles as if they're teaching us to be better people. It's exactly what George Carlin said, tyranny will come with a smiley face. Sorry for the long post, the fact that I'm even in a position where this is plausible has just disgusted and infuriated me.

Switching to Google Chrome after Chromium loses sync support

For my job there are certain internal web pages (poorly designed) which would glitch with Firefox. I need to plan ahead what to do after Google starts to ban sync support of Chromium in March, as my Google account is my main password manager, bookmarks manager and extensions manager.

I would really love to stay with Arch and a choice is to use the proprietary Google Chrome at https://aur.archlinux.org/google-chrome.git.

However, it's still less than ideal because AUR has the risk of getting malicious code injected. I can easily get tired of reading PKGBUILD every time there's an update.

Is there a strong reason why google-chrome can't be voted into the official repo? According to stats about 50% Arch users have chromium installed and may get affected by this. Can an exception be made just like Nvidia drivers?

If it's too much harassment to securely update google-chrome then I'll be forced to consider switching to Debian bullseye or OpenSUSE Tumbleweed where Google is providing official installers.

[FREE] I built a Chrome extension to directly save jobs from LinkedIn and Lever to Google Sheets so you can easily organize and keep track of all your job applications

I hope this helps at least a few people with their job search :) If you do try it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to improve!
