I’ve known this for some time but shared it with few. I’ve always loved how in Oblivion, from the Shrine of Hermaeus Mora, you can look out over the border into Skyrim and see the general geography of the land, in a game that was released 5 years prior. That’s love for lore.

Do you think Rollback will change the geography of competitive fighting games? If so, how?

As good rollback is coming to big titles and we can expect/hope it to become the new standard, do you think that will affect the quality of the competitive players of specific regions?

Stuff like NA West Coast getting much better than East because they'll be playing Japanese players more often; or maybe European scene evolving due to more playing vs NA East? Maybe regions that were completely isolated could now become powerhouses?

(don't stress over my likely poor examples, this is more to bring the opinion of people who actually know some shit about this, lol)

[PC][~2006] A kids educational game involving world history and geography

Hey guys! So I’ve been trying to find this old PC educational game. It’s the type of game you would get inside a cereal box.

It may have been just an exploration game (more likely) or a hidden object or puzzle game (less likely). There was a giant map in the home page and you’d play the game when you click it. And to choose your location, you would hover over the map and find where you wanna play. You could choose England, for example, and you’d find a bunch of things from England’s historical past. If you choose Greece, you’ll get stuff like Zeus. Italy: the coliseum.

And when you press on these things, you would get a page talking about the thing you chose. For example, if you chose the Redwood trees, you would get a page talking about how they’re the tallest trees in the world, and you can revisit those pages you discovered later on.

There was a lot of audio in this game, with sound effects made for each item you press on. The graphics are 2D but pretty cool as I remember.

If anyone has any questions let me know and I’ll try answering them and adding them to this post.

Thanks everyone!

If you like games, geography, and fast food restaurants, you might like this

There is this web-based game called GeoGuessr (https://www.geoguessr.com/) where the point of the game is to pinpoint on a map exactly where you are from a given Google streetview. The closer you pick to the exact location, the more points you get. There are other variants of the game, but that's the jist of it.

I created a themed map where all of the Google streetviews that you are given are the very first location of a fast food chain (or, in some cases, the closest branch of that chain to the original location). I thought some here might enjoy this map, as it was partially inspired by Doughboys. You should recognize all the chains, as I think Nick and Mitch have covered all of them. And if you listen to Nick's intros, you might just have a good idea of where the chain started.

You can access this custom map with this link: https://www.geoguessr.com/maps/601d93ce839cd90001b4411e Without a "pro" account, you can only play it once a day. But there's a work around where I can create "challenges" that you can play without a pro account. Here are some challenges:

Easy challenge - Unlimited time limit, you can move around in google streetview to help pinpoint your location: https://www.geoguessr.com/challenge/XQhEm32FfPwzU30G

Medium challenge - Unlimited time limit, but you can't move around. You can turn the camera and zoom in if you want: https://www.geoguessr.com/challenge/CBY1dupZ7l1XNExB

Hard challenge - Unlimited time, but you can't move around, turn the camera, or zoom: https://www.geoguessr.com/challenge/CWO5m2tiz7yVNFNe

Extreme challenge - 2-min time limit per round, and you can't move, turn, or zoom: https://www.geoguessr.com/challenge/2h6VTBIpUjLiJs6t

Let me know if you guys enjoy this, how you did on the challenges, and if you want more challenges!

[TOMT] An old Windows PC game that quizzed you on geography?

Okay back in the early 2000s, we had an old pc and some games. Recently I saw a video about Carmen Sandiego, and I was like oh hey I faintly remember that and...well we don't have any of the games anymore obviously.

I looked up the game but the gameplay is different from what I remember so I don't think the game I'm thinking of this that.

BASICALLY, from what I remember, it's an old computer game where you go to different countries and they ask you questions. It was like, a 4th - 7th grade game I think??? or maybe 2nd - 7th grade. I still remember the disk colors. The top was red and the bottom half was white.

The only question I remember was asked by this robot, asking what the coldest continent is. And I remember the robot had some sort of accent, though what the accent is, I don't remember. But when you answered the question right she would say "Correct, (state the fact)" and then an added comment. Like I remember to the coldest continent question her comment was "Now that is bone-chilly" or something along those lines.

I was pretty young when we had the game, and my older brother played it more than I did, but he doesn't remember it either.

[DOS][probably pre 1995] Geography game

Hi,
recently I've been on a quest to restore an old folder with tons of DOS games I loved as a child. I've found some, but one I got stuck on and can't seem to find it anywhere. In the process I've stumbled upon this sub and I'm hoping you guys can help me.
I'll do my best to describe the game from memory, I apologise if the details are few and not spot on.
Here goes nothing:

Before the game boots a globe is shown. It's made out of meridians, just white lines on a blue background. That might be the logo of the publisher.

The whole game is basically just a political map of Europe, each country in a different colour (I think Slovakia or Lichtenstein might have been dark red).

The names of capitals pop up and you have to click on the correspondent country and do it as fast as you can. When you click on a correct country the colour becomes slightly brighter and a five point star appears where the capital is in the same colour as the country but in a lighter tone, almost glowy.

That's about it. I know that's not much to go from but if anyone knows what I'm rambling on about any information and help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

[Internet][2013] Geography World Map Quiz game where you'd pinpoint a guess of a given world city's location, scoring based on distance to real location and time

Platform(s): Online

Genre: Educational Quiz Game

Estimated year of release: I played in 2013

Graphics/art style: 2d, colorful maps, simplistic

Notable characters: none

Notable gameplay mechanics: There were multiple map choices for each continent or a world map choice. Each round would give you a city, country that you would have to click on where you thought it was. A flag would appear and then another flag connecting the first with a line to indicate the real location. Points were based on how far away your guess was and how quickly you responded. You needed a certain amount of points to get to the next level

Other details: I used to play this in class all the time around 2012-2014. I feel like it was on like a travel channel website or nat geo but I cant find it. Please help!
