Are the cultural/social geographical differences (from state to state) in the USA bigger than those between rural and urban areas (without getting into politics). For example are New York, Los Angeles and Chicago more similar to each other than they are to the rural areas in their respective states?

Now we've seen a quietening of the situation in the LAC area i'd like to understand what China has achieved by heightening tensions and what has changed post landgrab. If its in a more favourable position how is it so?

So long story short I bought some bitcoin to make a special purchase years and years ago and had a little bit left over that I didn't really bother with at the time because it wasn't much at all. But I just logged back into my account after almost 6 years and when I try to send my bitcoin to coinbase or some other address I get this message. Does anyone know how I can get my BTC to coinbase or some other platform without it getting lost in the void?

The Gyre is about the same area as Denmark, and other geographical rude awakenings.

Obviously, do what you want with fantasy maps. Go have fun.

But if you like to presume a somewhat Earth sized planet for your "Region Scale" mapping, an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper mapped at the same scale as the Gyre (60 x 48 six mile hexes) gives you a slice of world roughly the area of Denmark (autonomous territories excluded).

This means snowy north and desert/jungle south on that single map won't fly without fantasy logic intervention (The White Waste being an example of such). BUT it also means you can have a region of somewhat uniform character, and embrace variation within that character to make one campaign stand out from another.

To use a video game example, consider The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The whole game takes place in a single cold, mountainous realm, but you still see mountain peaks, coastlines of shattered ice flows, wide open tundra, frigid bogs, thick forests, and more as you play.

For my "Kingdom Scale" mapping, I plan on 6 miles/1/2" hex, because I like the space to doodle more detailed icons. Assuming 16 x 21 hexes or so (because margins) I get 2016 square miles: roughly the area of Trinidad and Tobago. Tiny relative to the world, but quite suitable for humans adventuring on foot or horseback.

All this to say it's easy to run amok during map-making with visions of grand journeys, and I thought you all might enjoy having these realistic benchmarks as much as I enjoyed discovering them.

(Unoffended by math corrections if I'm significantly off on any of the calculations, but I think my estimates check out.)

[Task] Use google to find businesses within a certain category in 4 different geographical areas. I will pay you $0.50 per record.

I need a bunch of information on local businesses within a certain category. Name, contact, phone number and email. I want google, homeadvisor, angies list etc to be used to help find them. Minimum 100 records per location. I pay for only complete data. If you are using a scraper, let me know because I have a different offer for that. This is for manually searching and entering. The only acceptable format of delivery is Excel. I have used this sub for this before and had a great experience. Hoping for the same this time around. Hit me with those DMs!

ELI5: How are wind forecasts developed in weather forecasting? How is a single summary vector prediction produced for a geographical area such as a town?

Two related questions here:

  • What information is used to forecast the wind vector at a particular time? To a first approximation, is this mostly a factor of macro-scale movement of air (e.g. cold fronts, etc.)?
  • How does a forecaster arrive at a single prediction vector for an area (and a range of time such as an hour)? Are there many vectors at different point positions which are simply averaged? Is there any "risk adjustment" or bias towards the higher wind speeds that might be present? (for example, highly turbulent air might average out to zero, but that doesn't sound like a useful summary).

Is there any way to delete pins by geographical area?

For example, I added the GPS .kmls from my Garmin to Google Earth, but I only want the pins for a few states to appear on my map. Since I've driven all over the country, this means I will have to manually delete hundreds of pins one by one, in several U.S. states. It would be such a simple thing to do. Highlight an area on the map with a crop tool or a drawn line, and hit delete to erase any pins in the highlighted area!

What countries or geographical areas would you add to World Showcase?

Forgive me if this has been posted here already, but I was listening to the WDW Radio podcast and they did a show released on May 18th about their top ten countries they’d add to World Showcase and that gave me the idea to see what ideas some other fans of Epcot would have.

I’ll start it off with Belgium, you could have a scaled down replica of the Atomium from the 1958 worlds fair in Brussels. In terms of food, you could have the incredibly delicious Belgian waffles, frites (French fries) Belgian chocolate and an assortment of other not as well known dishes. There’s no question about alcoholic beverages with Belgium’s illustrious history of churning out incredible beers!

What do you guys think? What countries do you think would fit well in the potential 7 available slots in world showcase?
