So about a week ago or so, I introduced my partner to reddit after using it for over 3 years and she finally decided to get on the karma train.
Now I sold it as a platform 'like Instagram but for every interest you could think of'.
First few days went well of her just posting on comments and uploading things she likes. So far so good.
Then about 2 days ago the story took a deadly turn. She discovered karma. She started trying to out karma me (not a challenge at all, I only post about nerdy things) and has made it her ONE life goal.
This manifested yesterday on a long car ride where I lost her to her photo reel of things to upload to get that beautiful upvote feeling.
Then worse of all, this morning the true addiction became apparent. I was woken up to "Oh my God I already have 500 karma! Are you proud of me? I'm gonna beat youuuuu!"
So Redditors. I have lost my partner to all of you, please take care of her, because I am no longer her priority in life, the karma is. Press F3.

How many of you had your love of horror solidified by Scooby Doo as a kid? As an older fan I know I watched the hell out of the show as a kid. I know a few other parents with kids who love horror and got started with Scooby Doo. I'm hopeful that it works with my daughter. She loves the show and is only a few episodes in (hbomax). If it works, what's something tame (4.5yrs old) for her to try before moving on to goosebumps and are you afraid of the dark (when she's older)
On December 2, 1987, the Soviet Deep Space Network received a transmission from outer space. It was first picked up by the Galenki RT-70 radio telescope and soon confirmed by the other telescopes within the system. The signal – which was repeated every day for about two weeks – came from KIC 8462852, today more famously known as Tabby’s Star. It’s an F-type main-sequence star located in the constellation Cygnus approximately 1,470 lightyears from Earth. Unusual light fluctuations of the star, including up to a 22% dimming in brightness, were discovered by citizen scientists as part of the Planet Hunters project. These observations puzzled the scientific community, which has yet to explain what kind of natural phenomenon could cause such a massive dip in brightness in a star. My team, however, wasn’t as surprised. Given the transmission and the nature of its content, we felt confident that the dimming of Tabby’s Star must have been the result of some kind of artificial megastructure, su... keep reading on reddit ➡
It seems that some people on this sub worry that Sam Harris has become a gateway to the alt-right. I thought it may be productive to share my story about how Sam was my gateway to the left.
I grew up in a deeply Christian, conservative family, and their views were drummed into me as a child. In middle school I was arguing with teachers that global warming wasn't real. In high school I was writing papers arguing that legalized abortion was a genocide. When I went off to college, almost all of my friends were non-religious. 1.5 years and an existential crisis later, I finally admitted to myself that my religion didn't make sense. It's hard to explain to people who grew up in secular households what it's like to have your religious worldview fall apart. Life feels meaningless. You hear church bells on a Sunday morning and start second-guessing your decision to stay home. You catch yourself praying out of habit and get angry with yourself.
In the wake of that existential crisis,... keep reading on reddit ➡
I've lived in NYC for a few decades and every once in awhile I get a brief yearning for suburbia and the stuff that comes with it, like strolling through the aisles of a giant supermarket etc. The other day I went to The Gateway Center in Brooklyn and they had a huge Shop Rite, HUGE!!! Also Haagen Dazs ice cream was under $3 a pint. I just read about the largest supermarket in the Bronx and wonder what spots you like?
edit: Thank you for all these fantastic responses, I am definitely going to scope these out! I checked out some pictures of the places you mentioned online and they definitely look like they're going to scratch that suburban itch :-) Thanks a lot!
For those with more than a few bottles, here is the scenario: you have a friend that is familiar with bourbon in cocktails only, tried bourbon neat in the past and did not like it, and you want to help them unlock their inner bourbon power. Help them find that 'wow' moment.
For me: Angels Envy on the rocks. The second drink is almost always Angels Envy neat. Yeah, it is a bit of a 'bastard' bourbon but I find it is very approachable for those who are squeamish drinking neat.
I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the topic of the stigmatization and extreme distrust most fundie’s and fundie lites have of opposite-gender friendships (even between two siblings).
Although we can probably all agree that opposite gender friendships are certainly different than friendships between two people of the same gender, why is there such a profound and abiding disbelief that two people could relate to and connect with each other in a non-sexual way? Most of the fundies and fundie lites whom I know, abide by the Billy Grahm Rule (avoiding eating, traveling, or otherwise spending time alone with someone of the opposite sex), and consider a close friendship between opposite sexes to be a “near occasion of sin”, AKA asking for it. This not only seems really reductive, but also the obsessive focus on identifying sin in our every human inclination and interaction, is so contrary to the spirit of the Gospel. What are all of your thoughts on this topic?
I recently watched a video about how weed isn’t as bad as alcohol. That is a problem for another day, but people stated that weed is a gateway drug, and that their personal experience has lead them to believe that. I would first of all like to say your personal experience doesn’t equal the truth. My personal experience have been been bad with other things, but that doesn’t lead me to think that the total truth. Weed saved me from much harder drugs I could’ve got into, and while thats not everyone like I said above It seems people think that everyone who smokes weed wants something like heroin. This just comes down to mindset people think differently than other people and If you get addicted to more hardcore drugs because of weed than you have legitimate problems that weed clearly isn’t the only reason for. 0 deaths have been from actually having weed , and I say having because people always assume people just smoke it. There are other ways to digest weed such as edibles. Not sure if t... keep reading on reddit ➡

I’ve been sculpting since 2002. I’ve posted elsewhere about the journey I’ve been on, it’s been incredibly intense at times. To summarise, I hated myself for most of my adult life, from my teens until age 36, in 2017. The only constructive pursuit I had was sculpture. I made a lot of weird stuff, like this carved from chalk in '04, but most of the time I was drinking heavily and smoking pot to escape myself. In 2015 I discovered that modelling in clay while drunk and high was a lot of fun; I didn’t have to worry about whether it was good or not, I could just express myself and let the chips fall.
It turned out to be incredibly cathartic, my darkest emotions poured out of me into the work and what I made helped me understand what I was struggling with. Because I was in such a chaotic state I wasn’t thinking about what I made and it flowed straight out of my subconscious, allowing me to explore the contents. In Sept... keep reading on reddit ➡
I just finished playing Yakuza Kiwami 2 and played 0 and Kiwami 1 before that in the same month. That's close to 200 hours of gameplay, so it's fair to say that Yakuza was almost my entire life for a few weeks. Thanks Game Pass !
I'm usually more on a lurker on this sub but I needed to take a moment and reflect on these 3 games, so I might as well share my thoughts with everyone. For those who don't know the series, the first Yakuza came out on PS2 and follow the story of Kazuma Kiryu, a famous yakuza who ends up in prison for a murder he didn't commit. 10 years later, he is released and finds out that his Clan is on the verge of collapse. He decides to step in this world again to save the Clan and find out what happened to his sworn brother. Kiwami is the remake of Y1 and and Kiwami 2 is obviously the remake of Y2. Yakuza 0 is a prequel that came out a year before Kiwami in Japan and follows not only a young Kiryu but also Goro Majima, a very important character in the entire series.... keep reading on reddit ➡
Lately, I'm thinking a lot about how people get into country music in the first place cuz SO MANY people tell me "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line was one of the first songs that made them check out country... and even if they're fans of Cody Jinks now, they're thankful for the gateway.
I also feel like "I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Tennessee Whiskey" would be two more examples of tracks that were so popular that they got people curious about the rest of the genre.
What are some other ones that come to mind?
Casuals will play the gamemodes they are given. They quit from being stomped, so give them chaotic low skill-floor modes so they won't be stomped. Hopefully, eventually they will try other modes.
When I was playing over the weekends, the only gamemodes I could play with my newbie friends was Weebow Instagib. Any other gamemode was too difficult, since there wasn't anything in those gamemodes which would give players more equal ground, nor focusing on chaotic fun. They only had one gamemode with which they would get familiar with the mechanics. The only other choices was being destroyed in Wipeout/mcguffin.
Having more casual gamemodes where you can shoot the shit by using stuff like a BFG, infinite dashes, grapple hook, freezetag, no reload time, ridiculous modifiers basically, would go a long way for giving casuals something to learn the game with.
(I'm not saying replace the current gamemodes. I mean they should be in addition, as extra arcade modes, like how ov... keep reading on reddit ➡
So here’s a big picture theory on what I believe is happen behind close doors of the Broken Ghost. The TLDR is the title and this theory requires some knowledge of what’s been happening.
Revenant is a gateway to ghosts of the past.
From S5 launch trailer, Revenant’s head phase-teched as a failsafe against intrusions and a key element to note is that there are 129 other known facilities. An assumption from the Broken Ghost questline is that Hammond may or may not know their locations, however, they know where Revenant’s source code (SC) is. If his SC lands into places like KC (abandoned black R&D sites), it’s a gold mine. Revenant is a gateway to the vast technology left behind by the former Frontier factions such as ARES division, IMC, and that’s where Loba came into play.
Ash is the key.
Throughout the questline, we collect Ash’s head in KC Beta. The artifact pieces are interesting because they paint a picture of how simulacrum function yet they never explained th... keep reading on reddit ➡

Hi, I'm 23 and fell in love with CrossFit a couple years ago. After three months of paying $150/month, I realized that I simply could not afford it. I asked the owner if I could potentially clean the gym in exchange for a membership, and he said yes!
I've been a janitor there ever since, cleaning about 3 hours a week. I have my own key, and get to workout whenever I want. It's awesome, however, it made me realize that this pay-format simply is not accessible to most people.
One of my dreams is to open a box, but I would love to make it accessible to people with low incomes. I've been exploring the idea in my head... I wonder if it would be possible to build some form of sliding membership scale, like, pay what you can, we'll get the difference. Further more, we could ask wealthier members to cover membership costs for members who struggle financially.
The CrossFit community is so fucking cool and I really think some people I know would jump on a chance to fund a members' journey.... keep reading on reddit ➡
I live in an apartment complex where we’re forced to go through AT&T. They require we “rent” (I believe it is renting since we are charged an equipment fee every month) the modem/router from AT&T.
Should I be concerned that AT&T would ban me or give me grief over practicing pen testing on my home network since they may own the modem/router? I plan to use proxy chaining but would I be better off just setting up another router off of the rented modem/router to play around with?

tl;dr - Do you know any written matter on how to start RPG's with utter newbies at dinner parties? Or any systems to look into?
I have had a lot of success with boardgames during a dinner party. Thankfully there are lists of "gateway" boardgames to play with completely new players, something like after dinner with friends (about 30 in age). This works great and many of my friends are now considerable boardgamers themselves in their own right with their own collections.
I personally have a huge love for RPG's and am trying to find similar type of "gateway RPGs". Once I tried out Fiasco and it sort of worked. It was kinda fun, but for most of my friends, starting from "what does RPG stand for?" and the burden of going straight into on-the-spot spontaneous acting and becoming creative film directors for about 2 hours - was understandably hard for them
In retrospect, due to the heavy burden on the players: "Ok....now act!" even though Fiasco is an easier to un... keep reading on reddit ➡
Cargo delivery to the Lunar Gateway. Yes, there is Dragon XL. However, that will be limited to 11,000 lb of cargo. Far less than Starship's 220,000 lbs. It will use the Falcon Heavy, rather than the fully reusable Starship designed for even lower cost operation. It will have to be built to survive atmospheric reentry and landing on the Earth.
Rather than multiple Starship launches to send a Starship there and back simply to carry cargo, how about this instead:
A spacecraft with a lightweight frame that can latch onto a container of a standard size with standard attachment points. Good for shipping fuel for lunar landers to use in their hops, water, air, and other cargo.
A small chemical engine at one end with sufficient fuel and oomph to get the spacecraft from LEO to the station while laden.
An ion thruster and solar panels at the other end to get it back from the station to LEO after the cargo and its container are dropped off.
All of which would fit into a Starship
So my current situation is this: It's usually pretty difficult and rare to get my wife on the table to play a board game with me. While I think that she generally likes games that require some brains and have a certain depth, she is hesitant to invest time and energy into too complicated rules.
My kids on the other hand are still too small to play anything that I actually enjoy (5 & 3 years). So with Corona and everything I decided to get myself one or two solo games. I got the Arkham Horror LCG already, which I quite like (only played Core so far though), but my wife found it too complicated and also isn't too fond of the horror theme.
So I'm looking for a game that has a solo mode but that I can at least potentially play with my wife or kids in a few years. Or maybe just something that's small and cheap?

So far, we've written articles based on:
What do you think are some other games that would be good for us to base recommendations on? We thought everyone here might have good insight into this. Thanks in advance for your thoughts :)
For reference, here's one of our articles: https://goodgameshelf.com/recommendations/codenames.html
I just finished A Memory of Light and I mostly enjoyed it, but there's one thing that's troubling me. I've been thinking about the creative uses of gateways introduced in the last book (huge gateways, horizontal gateways, gateways high up in the air, etc). The more I think about it the more I think they are way too powerful, especially in the hands of the Shadow where they can be used to kill and destroy indiscriminately.
1. Gateways as methods of assassination. If you knew the exact location of your target, you could open a gateway directly into their body and kill them. This could be done even with "old" tech (small, vertical gateways) so I'm not sure why the Forsaken did not use this more often. Even if your target is a channeler, they wouldn't have any warning. The assassin could be far away with their end of the gateway, so their use of the One Power would not be detectable.
Even if you don't know the location precisely enough to open a gateway into the targ... keep reading on reddit ➡
Are there builds that need to be pylon-scouted? Is gateway scout just better, if so, why? I see everyone doing gateway scouts, so I know it’s more common.
I started scouting with my pylon probe since I always lose to cannons and 12-pools. I have more time to think now, but I’m considering switching back to a gateway-scout.
Thoughts on inefficiency: When you scout, you lose the minerals the probe would have been mining, but it’s the same for either time of scouting. The difference is: do I lose 60 minerals now or later? Since I don’t need those 60 minerals early (no interruption to probe production etc.) I haven’t felt like it hurts me. However, when my probe doesn’t make it back to keep mining, I feel like I lost those extra 60 minerals. And, if it were truly equal, I’d have to send it back earlier than the gateway scout.
TLDR: Would I win more with pylon or gateway scout? I’m D2/D1 at 4K MMR on NA.
So I ordered a USG and set it up yesterday and placed my Eeros into bridged mode. I don’t mind what I’m “losing” by running in bridged mode but even with the USG being only $130... it’s not delivering what I had hoped.
First off... the user interface and dashboard are nothing like what you see on their website. If you’re kind you say it’s “forward looking beta software” and if you’re not nice, you say it’s outright fraud and false advertising. Allegedly you need to run early beta software (which I tried) but you may need a Dream Machine and not the USG. Not confirmed because no one in the Ubiquiti sub-Reddit is running it that chimed in and others have said they’ve never seen the graphics that are on their website. Not sure if Yuck is considered a shoegaze band, but if it is, Yuck is definitely my gateway drug to shoegaze.
First time I listened to Rubber, I was blown away by the spacey and ethereal guitar distortion. It feels like the reverberation slowly encapsulate my whole mind and body which gives the out of this world quality to the song.
From then on, I was hooked. Started listening to the “entry level” shoegaze band such as MBV, Slowdive, and Cocteau Twins. Can’t wait to explore more!
What’s you gateway drugs to shoegaze? Happy to get any recommendation of more bands and songs.
I was on the phone with Eero support for a while this afternoon and also with my ISP. No one seems to be able to solve the problem, and I could use some new ideas!
I upgraded a few days ago to gigabit speeds from Xfinity. My Eero app speed test shows roughly 950 mbps from my Motorola modem. My iMac is hardwired into a 10/100/1000 switch which is then hardwired into the Eero Gateway.
I can never get speeds over 200 mbps when I do speed tests on my iMac through speedtest.net or fast.com. All WiFi connected devices top out at 200 (I have two beacons).
I have rebooted both the modem and the router countless times. I have hardwired my iMac directly into the Eero Gateway and received the same results.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am out of ideas. What I simply don't understand is that the Gateway literally shows a 950 download speed, but I don't understand why a hardwired device would get 200 or lower.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Or maybe a “shoehorn” drug, as it makes you not really care. Just something interesting really, that almost every time I’ve impulsively or irresponsibly taken drugs it’s been largely due to the fact that my inhibitions are lowered from drinkin
Nothing against drink at all, but the reasons presented for criminalisation are questionable to say the least lol. Why is it never mentioned that maybe after a few pints you’d be far more likely to hop in the back of some car and rack a few lines than u would smoking a damn plant in the comfort of your own home haha
We all know anyway it just blows my mind
For me, it was Revolutions Anti-Hero, since then my palate has expanded, but I can always kick back and enjoy the beer that started it all for me.
What was the beer that got you hooked into craft beers?
I am stil stuck on the old USG with low throughput on IDS/IPS. In addition I have the cloudkey, 3 unifi switches to cover the house and all living rooms/labroom as well as 2 Unifi APs
What are the options when it comes to upgrading from the USG? Are there any other options than the Dream Machine Pro? I’m a little concerned about fan noise as the internet fibers comes into my house through the main living room. The small USG as I currently own (not pro) are as you know fanless.
I am also thinking about adding the Doorbell if it is out yet and maybe some cameras to cover the exteriour of the house. Afaik the the DMP has video recording options as well?
Any other new routers to replace the USG with firewall options?
Wanting to get away from servers completely as I’m in web development. Love serverless and the idea of it, there are some websites that need dynamic content generated on every page load. Is serverless a good idea for this?
In TV, movies, and games any time there's space travel it seems like there's some kind of wormhole somewhere. Not in everything but in too many things for my taste. Especially when the wormhole is stabilized or just created by people who do not have the right level of technology to do that.
