##it begins: department for the confiscation of illegally-obtained property is investigating 214 entities

An anti-corruption bill aimed at public officials was approved recently to allow the authorities to require them to prove that they obtained a large property legally, or face a threat of confiscation. No felony case will be launched besides the confiscation unless it is proven that the property was stolen, however.

Justice Minister Badasyan: the law was approved in April of 2020. The agency began operating in September. Petitions were filed to investigate 430 properties that were already part of various felony trials. The preliminary investigation found enough grounds to investigate 214 of them. They are in process.

According to new rules, public officials must disclose certain expenditures. The Corruption Prevent Committee is authorized to request expenditure declarations from third parties, too.

Within 2 years of the official's departure from the position, if their wealth changes significantly, the CPC can demand details about incomes and properties.

The definition of a luxury property is reduced from ึ8m to ึ5m.

The list of officials required to disclose wealth has expanded. It'll include municipal secretaries and city council members of settlements with over 15k population. That means 9,000 public officials must disclose wealth instead of the previous 3,000.

Makjang 101: Taking Things To The Extreme

In the wake of the recently aired Penthouse: War In Life and in preparation for its upcoming seasons 2 and 3, I wanted to do a little introduction to makjang (๋ง‰์žฅ) dramas -- which is one of my guilty pleasure kdrama genres. I hope this introduction will provide a better "clearer" idea of what is makjang and what dramas are makjang dramas, in addition to the "best" viewing attitude towards such dramas.

##What Is Makjang (๋ง‰์žฅ)?

Word Origin

The word makjang (๋ง‰์žฅ) is actually not an officially recognized word but rather a non-standard form of the word kkeutjang (๋์žฅ) (noun), which means the end or the conclusion (such as death or complete failure).^1 Essentially kkeutjang represents a state of having reached the extreme where further continuation or development is not possible. In popular culture, the term makjang is used to represent the idea of having reached the extreme.

Makjang + Drama

In the context of dramas, makjang is a stylistic, tonal, or narrative element in dramas that chooses to play up outrageous storylines to keep viewers hooked despite how ridiculous the stories become.^2

According to the Urimalsaem definition of makjang drama:

> > A drama that is difficult to understand or accept based on common sense and moral standards of an average person. These dramas will often feature things such as forced situations/settings, tangled relationships, affairs, and birth secrets.

Other hallmarks of makjang dramas include switched identities, revenge plots, power struggles, death (lots of it, especially due to murder), incest (often shown as undertones rather than real relationships), amnesia, blackmail, and evil rich people.

Thus, makjang can be used to refer to specific elements of a drama or the drama overall as a genre designation.

##How Makjang Is That Drama?

Over my years of drama watching, I've developed a personal scale of measuring how makjang a drama is based on the presence or absence of "normal" moral compasses in characters.

The fewer number of characters with a "normal" moral compass, the more makjang a drama is.

By counting the number of "normal" moral compasses present in a drama, I rank dramas on a spectrum ranging from makjang-lite to full-blown complete makjang. A drama with 3 or less cha

Upon a Dead Horse: Chapter One

It had been centuries since the Luddite Wars but the scars across the badlands had still not fully healed. Twisted spires of half melted rock loomed over glass smooth craters pockmarking a desert of orange sand. Sand that had formed from the rust and decay of thousands of tons of burning steel from long abandoned cities. Though rarer now, sometimes the winds would uncover a new pocket of irradiated debris and scour the barren lands with a new wave of radiation. But, other than a few isolated pockets, the battered and scabbed land - bitter and sterile though it was - no longer could be said to be lethal within hours of entering it. Still, with its nightmarish hellscape and it's metal laced grit battering anyone foolish enough to enter, the area more than earned its moniker of Damnation among the survivors. It was said that only a great fool or a madman would ever ride out into Damnation. The sight of just such a rider emerging from a cloud of rust colored sand caused a stir of dread to pass through those that manned the Wall that day.

Still too distant to make out details even with use of the periscope. In wilder days when the winds were still fierce and still hot with radioactive winds a brave soul might have volunteered or been coerced into exposing themselves from the protection offered by the wall to Damnation and venture on top to use a spyglass. But, as the centuries passed and the desert cooled both the Keepers and the Wall itself succumbed to the ravages of time. The sixteen meter tall line of concrete and steel that stretched from horizon to horizon was now just a stained and crumbling shadow of its former glory. Gaps showing exposing the rebar underneath were evident on both sides but, for now at least, the Wall still held. As for the Keepers themselves? That profession which was once viewed as a vital part of the defense of the remnants of humanity had gradually suffered its own form of social erosion. From a respected job to one that was used as a prison sentence to a refugee camp for society's outcasts. The current Keepers were little more than scavengers attempting to carve out their own niche from the scant protection offered by the Wall. So, they contented themselves to observing the stranger through the narrow eyepieces of the periscopes. Watching and waiting.

The stranger was garbed in a fashion appropriate for desert travel. That is to say with no exposed skin and a full face breathing apparatus. The stranger's long coat and wide brimm

Cluster B (Data by PD & Exploratory Analysis

>Antisocial Personality Disorder - Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is characterized by persistently violating or disregarding othersโ€™ rights, committing crimes, deceiving others, behaving impulsively, exhibiting agitation through frequent fights/altercations, acting recklessly, and lacking responsibility and empathy (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Adolescents who exhibited conduct disorder are typically diagnosed with ASPD as adults if they continue behaviors consistent with ASPD (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Individuals with ASPD may be prone to legal problems for several reasons. First, ASPD has frequently been associated with the commission of criminal offenses (Hodgkins & Cรดtรฉ, 1993; Roberts & Coid, 2010). Deceitfulness, reckless behavior, impulsivity and lack of empathy increase the individual's risk of becoming involved in the legal system. ASPD is the one personality disorder linked to psychopathy, a condition with some overlapping features of ASPD including deceit and manipulation (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Hare, Hart, & Harpur, 1991). Accordingly, ASPD is more commonly diagnosed in correctional populations where some studies have estimated that more than 70% of inmates have the personality disorder (Coid, 2002). Second, individuals with ASPD may fail to fulfill their parental obligations, possibly resulting in child neglect, child endangerment or even abuse (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).

Antisocial Personality Disorder - Exploratory Analysis

>The majority of Cluster B cases fell under ASPD with a total of 2,048, of which
1,330 were ruled out;
1,008 were unreported,7.
137 involved parties with no diagnosis[*8.

An In-Depth Top 10 Ranking of Every Ace Attorney Game (Except Prof. Layton Crossover) Part 1: The Flawed Entries (#'s 10-8)

One of the most fascinating things about the Ace Attorney series, as a whole, is that every game has its own strengths and weaknesses, and, as a result, different people will prefer different games over others. I've decided to rank every Ace Attorney game that has been released (except for the crossover) from worst to best. Before I begin, I don't actually hate any of these games, as each game has at least one case that I really like, but the quality of the mysteries, over-arching plots, characters, and the overall feel of each game varies a lot across each entry, which naturally leads me to prefer some games over others. For this ranking, I'm gonna rank all 10 of the Ace Attorney games that I've watched through, and give a brief explanation for why I prefer some over others (DGS games and Investigations 2 will be spoiler-tagged) I'm interested on seeing your rankings in the comments below!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

10th: Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth

Coming in last is the first Ace Attorney Investigations game. While I don't hate the game, it is definitely the most flawed entry in the series. First, let's get the positives out of the way. The new gameplay mechanics introduced in this game (the ability to move freely around the crime scene, piecing logic together, and Little Thief) are all great additions, and are all used to great affect to give the game a distinct feel from the mainline games, and fit Edgeworth as a protagonist quite well. Secondly, some of the characters introduced in this game are great, like Kay, Detective Badd, and Ambassador Palaeno, although they could've used some more screen time. Lastly, Turnabout Reminiscence is a fantastic case, and the way it expands on Franziska, Gumshoe, and Kay's characters along with introducing the main villain of the game, Calisto Yew, make it the best case in the game, and unfortunately, its only noteworthy one. One last thing I wanna mention is that I don't mind the characterization of Edgeworth in this game, as this was Yamazaki's first game, so of course he's gonna have a different feel for the character than Takumi, although he does feel kind of out of character in Turnabout Reminiscence, but that's a minor complaint overall.

Getting into the game's flaws, it's apparent that its story structu

How can I get my own vaccine card?

I just watched a news story that warned people to not share their vaccine card pictures on social media due to forgery. After seeing numerous pictures being posted I realized that this literally looks like a 4"x5" black+white card-stock printout with pretty common information that was written. In fact some of the cards being posted online looked like they were scribbled on by hero 'front-line worker' and were barely legible.

Now, we already see most retail establishments not allowing us to enter without a piece of cloth covering part of our face. We need to be smart and realize that this is definitely the next phase. This card will be the next key to allowing us into retail establishments again. Sure maybe some of the places in rural America won't do this, but for at least 75% of us, we will need this 'super easy to forge' slip of paper that says we definitely got vaccinated.

The news story ALSO conveniently reported that fakes being sold on ebay have been taken down. That got me thinking, where can I get my fake card? I have actually never seen a vaccine card in person, let alone held one, so I was wondering do you guys know what the exact measurements are of the card? Do you know what the thickness of the card is? Do you know what type of paper it's printed on, card stock, glossy etc? I was able to pull up a few .pdfs of the card (one for the US and then one for the UK) but like I said, I don't know if these are exact copies of what is being passed around.

If someone would like to chime in with a place to purchase these, feel free to post or DM me.

Here are links I was able to find online, so please download these and save them ASAP. Feel free to upload these .pdfs to file-share sites to poison the waters so to speak.

Extraterritorial Rights - Drew Misham

What the fuck is this rankdown? I joined in a rush to murder Romein Letouse as soon as possible so I didn't think about it, but seriously. By any reasonable metric it's clearly a joke, and yet a majority of the characters are just actual Ace Attorney characters. There's only so many different joke cuts you can do with that kind of material.

I'll continue grappling with what exactly I'm supposed to be doing for the entirety of this events runtime. But in this one moment, my path is clear. Because ironic or unironic, Drew Misham is great.

MOOD MUSIC

a e s t h e t i c

I will complain about many things in Ace Attorney Apollo Justice, but the way it looks and sounds is not one of them. It nails the vibe it's going for and Drew Misham is no exception. His theme is great, as is his design. I love his ridiculous hair contrasting with his incredibly ordinary outfit, all with those beady little eyes.

f i r s t i m p r e s s i o n s

As far as first impressions, the actual initial experience we have with Drew is not the man himself but the place he inhabits.

There are paintings and paint all over the place, along with the latest high tech software for both analyzing and creating artwork. It has paper for writing and sketching on as well as plenty of mugs for drinking that coffee thing.

This is clearly the room of a man who is dedicated to his craft - and to nothing else. The presence of a letterbox in the door makes it clear that the inhabitant of this room didn't leave it unless absolutely necessary.

One last thing I like about this room aside from how it characterizes Drew is the way it changes over time; it's a location you see both in the past and present. Some things stay the same, but you can clearly see the room becoming more high tech and generally lived in.

t r i a l

There's a lot of things that are just a little weird in the 4-4 flashback trial. Why is Phoenix acting so absurdly cocky? Why is Gumshoe reverting to his AA1 self? Why does Phoenix have his ultimate downfall caused by trusting a child? Why didn't they use this time to give Klavier even a modicum of character depth?

My favorite weird thing, however, should be obvious.

Phoenix goes oh yeah I got the diary page. And then Klavier's attitude shifts. He becomes incredibly smug and hosti

The CSI of the Town Guard: The Metagaming DM

TL;DR: Punishment-oriented DM continues finding excuses for the party to be outsmarted by town guards based on meta table discussion in a dedicated attempt to "win."

This is an old post that had been sitting in my documents for years. I'm posting this now for your reading pleasure - this campaign went nowhere and I would like to think that the DM has improved since then. Warning: Some harsh language. I wrote this out of frustration, which I hope you can empathize with.

RE: A three hour argument about the origin of loot that happened during a Pathfinder game. By far my most taxing and frustrating experience playing an RPG.

Part Zero: The Introduction

Does your RPG have enough salt? Do you make your players roll for social, but arbitrarily decide that they fail despite a nat-20, a good RP, and a +12 modifier? Are you the kind of DM that really wants to run every single random NPC as a skeptical asshole that knows why you are wrong before you can roll, just so you can gloat at how was easy it was for a random grunt to outsmart dedicated social characters? Do you enjoy watching your players bang their heads against the wall until their nose shoots out blood like the levee in 2005 New Orleans? If so, you might relate to the tantalizing DM of this cringe-worthy tale.

This story begins with our party returning to a town after a long quest that involved us visiting a compound that produced infernal weapons. It wasn't the focus of the homebrew morally ambiguous adventure, but it is an important detail here. We had some loot to sell that we acquired from the compound and a long-rest ahead of us. The campaign was a decent dungeon crawl up until this point, with minimal social interaction between party and NPCs. We hadn't really been rewarded for anything we had done yet. Feeling underutilized as my diplomatic character, I was itching for a chance to interact with the world.

Enter cast:

 • Trenten: "All rogues are chaotic stupid" attitude. The DM in this story, Trent has "inconsistent" (the most neutral way of putting it) attitudes towards each player. Not characters, but players. At one point, he uttered the words "The players in my game steamroll through every encounter I give them" directly after a boss fight where a player died in one shot from a fireball and my character was losing a close-quarters battle with a fly no larger than my waterskin.
 • Jerry: Our bird-person ranger that just wanted to sell his loot.

30 point Book of Mormon challenge! (with minor grammatical corrections)

Recently, I saw posted the "30-point challenge" that supposedly proves the book of Mormon true. Many picked it apart in the comments, and at least one commenter said he would go more in depth if he had the time, but I have not seen a follow up. So, I will make that post, showing that of the thirty points, most of them do not establish truthfulness of the subject, and those that do, disqualify Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon.

Here is the challenge: Can you accept it?

I certainly can.

 1. Write a history of ancient Tibet covering a period from 600 B.C. to 450 A.D. Why ancient Tibet? Because you know no more about Tibet than Joseph Smith (or anyone else) knew about ancient America.

This criteria disqualifies Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. The phrasing seems to indicate that your paltry knowledge of Tibet would be proven false by those who know about it. However, every non-Mormon archaeologist who studies pre-Columbian American agrees that the book of Mormon has no basis in fact, as the cities, wheels, animals, armor, weapons, and metallurgy simply did not exist in America, and the Mormon apologists can only contend by arguing that the book of Mormon didn't mean what it said, practically denying it as they call horses tapirs. So yes, it does seem Joseph knew as little about ancient America as I do about ancient Tibet, I suspect a bit less. It is also an unfair comparison because Tibet can be pointed to on a map, while the Book of Mormon cities were never found, and the archaeologist who put the most work into finding them lost his faith in the process. Now, as the CES letter shows, Joseph did give a location when he said "Hill Cumorah" originally meaning the hill he found the plates on, and the descriptions of bodies of water and names of places corresponded to nearby towns named after local native American tribes and place names (Such as the Oneida=Onidah, Kiskiminetas=Kishkumen,) but when no corroboration of the cities and battles could be found, the location was re-imagined in Mesoamerica, where there was supposedly an 'original' Hill Cumorah. A more apt comparison would be, "set your fiction in Tibet, and when science proves it wrong, say "Their civilization was wiped out and God is hiding the evidence," and eventually retreat to, "It must have been a different Tibet that hasn't been discovered yet!"

 1. You are 23 years of age.

As has been stated before, there have been many young authors who wrote great (better) works. That Joseph could wri

[โ†Part 4] [My Links] [Index] [Discord] [Subreddit] [Patreon] [Part 6โ†’]

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a repost of a previous chapter to bring everything to the same format.

โ€œWe shall need a donor. Any body will strictly do, but preferably a womanโ€™s, moderately muscular and fairly lean,โ€ the flesh lord said as they removed their coat. Underneath were bare shoulders, with a sleeveless silk top, as well as a multi-layered skirt enclosing a pair of slim, pale legs.

A more foolish man could describe them as โ€˜petiteโ€™ or even, if they were spectacularly stupid, โ€˜daintyโ€™. Such a person would quickly learn that Carnesโ€™s relation with anatomy was fluid at best. In fact, Efrain was confident that they couldโ€™ve easily crushed his skull with just one of their hands. The coat slithered away as itโ€™s user pulled back their hair into an impressive pony tale, huddling in the corner of the room.

As Carnes began to examine the paladinโ€™s body more thoroughly, Efrain departed back to the undercroft. At the clack of his hands, two attendants sprung from the dark to come to his side. Simple grey robes with face cloths covered the stitched together limbs and the toothless mouths as they waited for orders. Efrain unlocked one of the compartments, sliding out the body of a thief that hadnโ€™t treaded quite quietly enough.

Deciding that the body met Carnes specifications, he let the barest huff of magic flow into the ghouls, who stooped down in silence and lifted the tray up, proceeding to shuffle down the corridor. Efrain strolled behind them, following through the doors out to the veranda as the ghoulsโ€™ face masks fluttered in the breeze. By the time they managed to walk to the back of the cell block, Carnes had already amassed impressively organized piles of half-frozen chunks.

โ€œThank you,โ€ they said as the servitors slowly lowered the body onto a cold stone slab jutting from the cell wall, leaving the trolley free. The two left to stand outside, flesh automatons awaiting their next set of orders. On the other end of the cart, Efrain laid the contents of the bag out - the steel blades, needles, and h

As I've made clear in a few of my cuts in the past, I like to take note of the roles various characters seem to fulfill. Naturally, that includes detectives. So, after noting how the various detectives in the series have fared rankdown-wise, it would appear that the detective in the mainline games that we have objectively deemed the best is...

wait what

A Basic Detective Evaluation

Overall, the ranking of the main series' major detectives according to the rankdown has turned out to be Gumshoe > Fulbright > Ema. Personally, I think that ranking should be reversed. However, this isn't a very useful metric for determining how good Gumshoe is when Ema and Fulbright are both top 20 material.

You see, both Ema and Fulbright have many things going for them. Ema has a cool multi-game arc that, while mostly in the background, still works well and gives her depth. Also, she is definitely better than both prosecutors she's paired with. This isn't to mention the whole 1-5 deal. As for Fulbright, I already wrote about why he's great.

In contrast to both of them, Gumshoe is relatively basic. Of course, this could just be my bias towards the newer games kicking in, but I don't think this is too far from the truth. As far as I'm concerned, his role early on is basically just to give you information and occasionally testify against you, and personality wise, he's basically just a guy that tries to be helpful but makes some mistakes. While the same could be said Fulbright, Gumshoe isn't really much more at first, nor does he make the strongest first impression. He's just a detective.

That doesn't mean he's bad, though. Quite the opposite, actually.

Role Retrospective

The first thing to take note of regarding Gumshoe is his role. Gumshoe is the character who establishes what detectives do in the Ace Attorney world. Without him, Ema Skye may have been totally different in AJ and SoJ, and who knows how Fulbright would have functioned in-game. Actually, there was probably a shot for Fulbright to be better if he wasn't just a detective, but I've talked about this before. Point is, Gumshoe established the Ace Attorney Detective.

I don't think this is a particularly good argument on its own, though. Otherwise, I'd care way more

Things You Should Know About: The Rogue Class

Hey all,

I'm trying to start a series of articles about different topics in D&D and similar RPGs. Specifically, I want to bring some context to terms that have become really common in these kinds of stories, but it feels like we might not know much about in reality (words like paladin, monk, lock-picking, pirate, barbarian, etc). And while I'm at it, I have a number of thoughts about a lot of these topics which I would bring to my players to shape how they view their characters and the setting they're playing in.

Quick shoutout, but a lot of my inspiration for this stuff comes from Gm Word of the Week. It's a podcast I've been listening to for a few years now, and it's full of insightful stuff like this from Fiddleback. And if you want to branch out from that, one of the collaborators on the early episodes of that podcast is The Angry GM, who writes a lot of articles on the subject of playing D&D. I'll probably get my research from other sources, but I already know that a lot of the stuff I bring up will come from these guys, so I figure I'll go ahead and source them (plus, if you aren't already checking their stuff out, they're pretty great even after several years of content).

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This time, we're going to talk about the rogue class, and what they're all about.

The Rogue in 5e

The 5e PHB has this to say about rogues (Please be aware, this quote comes from the Rogue page on DnD Beyond, a free recourse provided by Wizards of the Coast):

>Signaling for her companions to wait, a halfling creeps forward through the dungeon hall. She presses an ear to the door, then pulls out a set of tools and picks the lock in the blink of an eye. Then she disappears into the shadows as her fighter friend moves forward to kick the door open.
>
>A human lurks in the shadows of an alley while his accomplice prepares for her part in the ambush. When their target โ€” a notorious slaver โ€” passes the alleyway, the accomplice cries out, the slaver comes to investigate, and the assassinโ€™s blade cuts his throat before he can make a sound.

Galactic Magic

[Responded to a thread in r/WritingPrompts with this and a friend suggested I post it here because you all might enjoy it. Mostly just a one shot for the moment but I think it could be a fun story to work on.]

[EDIT 09/08: Alright. First off, Thank you for the super positive response! I wasn't sure what I was expecting but the response was a lot better than I was thinking it would be. Second: Because this was pulled from a writing prompt, I dove into this without any real prior planning. While I didn't exactly run into a wall in trying to continue it (because I can think of plenty of ways to go forward) I think this deserves more effort than that and with how my brain works I think it'll be easier for me to make this a longer term thing if I approach this like I normally do from a story-telling perspective.

So with that being said, I'm planning on writing up a prologue and a chapter one that will help me set up a better stage for what's to come. This chapter will likely be the second chapter based on the road forward my brain is taking and it won't change too much but it will definitely be getting a rewrite!

Thank you very much once again!]

Among the Cross-Galactic Planetary Federation there are an absurd number of species. There are the Kadrakka, a reptilian species from the Rooz Belt Galaxy that, despite their more brutal tendencies back on their homeworld (by human standards), have adapted to the concept of faith and religion with surprising alacrity. I think Iโ€™ve seen more Kadrakka faith leaders than any other species. Then thereโ€™s the Gariz. Physically theyโ€™re kind of like imps from Old Earthโ€™s mythologies; theyโ€™re typically short, winged, have horns and sharp teeth. Theyโ€™re also astoundingly flexible in how they think and more often than not can be found among some of the biggest conglomerates in the Core Worlds. Cedranians are, by and large, some of the most beautiful creatures in the universe if your preferred aesthetics lean toward more human-like appearances, which apparently a lot of alien species do. Beyond just those three thereโ€™s so many more that I could try to dive into and I wouldnโ€™t even be scratching the surface. I bring all of this up because while humanity, centuries ago by the Old Earth clock, tended to think of ourselves as varied and different it was nothing compared to what we encountered when we made first contact among the stars. We made fast allies, faster enemies, got pulled into a war or two, and through all of t

A Guide to Voting in the General Election in Mississippi, and an Important Note about Restricted Absentee Voting

VOTER REGISTRATION HAS ENDED AS OF MONDAY, OCTOBER 5

POLLS ARE OPEN 7:00am-7:00pm

https://www.sos.ms.gov/pollingplace/pages/default.aspx

IMPORTANT NOTE: FOR ANYBODY WHO DOES NOT HAVE A VALID EXCUSE TO VOTE ABSENTEE, YOU MAY NOT VOTE ABSENTEE IN MISSISSIPPI. YOU MUST VOTE IN-PERSON, AT YOUR LOCAL PRECINCT ON ELECTION DAY. THERE IS NO EARLY VOTING IN MISSISSIPPI, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY. Please see the ABSENTEE VOTING IN-PERSON and ABSENTEE VOTING-BY-MAIL sections down below.

Because Mississippi Election law is rather complex, there are 6 side notes that I have listed below, that I feel are important to note:

SIDE NOTE #1: WHILE "IN-PERSON ABSENTEE" VOTING BEGINS TODAY, IT IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH A VALID EXCUSE.

SIDE NOTE #2: Unlike all other 49 states and DC, being at a higher-than-normal risk for COVID-19 due to a pre-existing condition is actually not technically a minimum valid excuse to vote absentee in Mississippi. Explanation and recommendations on what to do listed down below in the ABSENTEE VOTING-BY-MAIL section.

SIDE NOTE #3: If you qualify to vote-by-mail (see list in the ABSENTEE VOTING-BY-MAIL section below), you must realize that you have to:

(a) have your application (NOT ballot, but application) notarized (b) have (1) witness sign the ballot itself (c) you have to mail it back, as hand-delivery of absentee ballots is illegal and strictly prohibited in the State of Mississippi

SIDE NOTE #4: IF YOU HAVE AN INCONSISTENT OR BAD SIGNATURE, IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU EITHER VOTE IN-PERSON ON ELECTION DAY OR BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL WHEN SIGNING YOUR BALLOT. Mississippi currently provides NO NOTIFICATION OR CURE PROCESS for mismatched signatures, so, if your signature doesn't match the one on your ballot APPLICATION (NOT voter registration, but ballot application), you should assume that it will be rejected outright, without your knowledge. (See page 22 and 23 of the County Election Handbook in the list of links at the bottom of the page.)

SIDE NOTE #5: if you are voting in-person on Election Day or absentee (VALID EXCUSE ONLY), you will need to provide a form of valid photo identification. YOUR PHOTO ID NEEDS TO BE CURRENT AS OF NOVEMBER 3, 2010, AS YOUR ID CANNOT BE EXPIRED NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS BEFORE THE DATE OF THE UPCOMING ELECTION. Why Speedrun.com should disassociate themselves from Guinness World Records

For many years, Guinness World Records exclusively partnered with Twin Galaxies as its authority on video gaming achievements. For all its flaws, at one time TG was the sole major scorekeeping organization. In 2017, Guinness broadened their scorekeeping affiliations, adding material from speedrunning hub Speedrun.com to their annual "Gamer's Edition" of the Guinness World Records book. More recently, Speedrun.com started a new collaboration with Guinness, offering official Guinness world records to anyone who could complete specific challenges in Super Mario Odyssey, God of War, and Minecraft. As Guinness put it, "[W]e're now taking our partnership with Speedrun.com to the next level by working directly with moderators from their community to create some totally new and unique GWR speedrun challenges."

But an issue has come up recently, one that I think deserves a good long look. Everyone heard this bit of news last week, but not everyone is aware of all the underlying ramifications, which when spelled out are actually quite appalling. I think it's worth reevaluating whether this relationship between SRC and Guinness is actually worth maintaining, either from the perspective of the speedrunning community at large, or from the perspective of Speedrun.com administration themselves.

BILLY MITCHELL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2x6ZrWUkWo

I would love to say I had a long list of reasons for this post. I mean, we could throw in last month's brouhaha over Guinness falsely copyright striking several speedrunners' videos, or we could talk about Guinness' affinity for oppressive autocratic regimes, if it really makes a difference. But truthfully, I'm here today to talk about Guinness' recent decision to restore illegitimately claimed world records by longtime video game cheater, Billy Mitchell. But don't think for a moment this is just one minor grievance.

As you'll see, this post is about a lot more than just "Billy Mitchell is a cheater," but let's start there. For the last two years, even after the conclusion of the score dispute, I've been researching the Billy Mitch

Money is the mastermind -- an in-depth analysis [Major Spoilers, all games]

Note: this a remaster of an old post I made a long time ago.

Good vs Evil is a trope as old as storytelling itself. Ace Attorney is no exception, as there is one ultimate hero and one ultimate evil that lurks behind every story. Itโ€™s not Phoenix, itโ€™s not Edgeworth, and itโ€™s not even the Judge.

No, the entire story is an epic struggle of the hero Winston Payne and the great evil, Money the Monkey.

Justice for All:

During Farewell my Turnabout, thereโ€™s a point where Mia is channeled by Maya, who is currently being held hostage by De Killer. Mia looks for possible clues for where Maya is being held while there and gives two specific details. She states that [sheโ€™s on the third floor] (https://i.imgur.com/JKcPo0e.png) and that sheโ€™s near the berry big circus.

Now back in Turnabout big top, we confirmed that Acro and Moneyโ€™s room meet those same conditionsโ€”they were by the circus and on the third floor. This can only mean that Maya was being held hostage in Acroโ€™s room. Acro has been arrested, so itโ€™s not like he would notice anything and it means that Matt Engarde was framedโ€”Shelley De Killerโ€™s client was Money the Monkey. This is very important as it means Money has a connection to and access to De Killer. It seemed like an office building because it was cleaned out after the events of turnabout big top.

His motive is simple. He wanted Phoenixโ€™s Badge. Badly. After seeing the monkey head fall in Turnabout Samurai, Money was obsessed. He hired De Killer to destroy Phoenix's spirit. Using his vast wealth and power, Money began seeking help of everyone he could and as we see in Turnabout Time Traveler, Time travel is possible. This is how Money was able to send in his assassin to ruin as many of the lives connected to Phoenix as possibleโ€”Dahlia Hawthorne.

Trials and Tribulations:

Money the Monkey went back in time to create his first person to ruin the lives of Mia and Phoenix. He needed Mia gone because a line in Justice for all confirms that she knew about his presence. Mia is warning Phoenix about the upcoming battle he doesnโ€™t even realize is going on.

> Mia: You have something money will never be able to buy. Friendship.

This isnโ€™t a cheesy line from Mia, itโ€™s a very direct warning.

Everything from TT unfolded as planned. The reason Dahlia was so obsessed with her diamond plotโ€”she said it herself.

> Dahlia: Fewer siblings means thereโ€™s more money to go around.

Dahlia was doing

A Very Long, Extremely Complicated Rewrite of Dual Destinies (Turnabout Academy Part 1)

The Undersea Turnabout <<< MASTERPOST >>> Turnabout for Tomorrow

Turnabout Academy is a bad, bad case.

It's a case which falls into basically every pitfall of an Ace Attorney case, especially in the context of the post-Takumi era. Its story is half-hearted and meaningless, its characters aren't given the human depth they deserve, the mystery is badly designed and nonsensical, it avoids taking any chances, half the case is wasted nothing, there's a cheap happy ending, it's just a complete flatline, made all the worse since it has to tie into AA5's absolute worst aspect.

Which is a mighty shame, because the characters of the case and setting are interesting, and there are plenty of threads which fit perfectly into AA's themes. Which, in a way, makes this the perfect subject of a rewrite, for it's me figuring out what does, and doesn't work, and how to make the not working genuine.

Get ready, people, this be a long one...

~~~
First off, the case is still set from Athena's POV! Given what happened to Apollo, it make to cut him a break for once, and in that switch, we get to see Athena's own feelings about that, her own relationships with the characters around her, and see Phoenix's desire for the "next generation" expressed with her too.
First Investigation
The case, like the actual game, opens up with the WAA attending the school culture festival. Unlike the game, though, there's no explanation of "Phoenix was invited" as a contrivance. Rather, since Juniper already is acquainted with them, she just invites them. Simple, easy fix.
Since there's no need to hold off on a surprise, Klavier's presence at the school, him being an alumni, Courte being his mentor, and the fact that he's playing at the culture festival are given earlier (with an added running gag of him trying to convince Apollo to be second guitarist, based on apparently an offhand remark Apollo once made about his high-school festival), with an additional surprise as Juniper ends up leading the group to the art room.
 • Juniper: "Hello, uh, I think it's Miss Misham?"
 • Trucy: "What?"
 • Apollo: "No way!"
Yep, in another move to tie this closer to AJ, Vera's back! She's a full committed artist now, but as Klavier reveals she also aids him as an assistant. She's the same old Vera in demeanour, though, down to drawing Widget in her sketchbook.
More over, b
So that dude Dallas Jones of "Elite Change" was apparently involved in some election in Trinidad in 2015. A review
>ELITE Change, Inc. Helps Lead Trinidad & Tobagoโ€™s Peopleโ€™s National Political Movement Party and Dr. Keith Rowley To Victory In Prime Ministerโ€™s Race
>Jo-Carolyn Goode | 9/8/2015, 2:30 p.m.
Technically all his interaction is listed as guidance and counselling, which is not illegal, but the fact he'd be involved in a foreign election is interesting
Ballot harvesting is usually concealed under "Get out the vote" fronts, which is exactly what this fellow was doing
>September 8, 2015 โ€“ (PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO) โ€“ Houston-based Political Consultant Dallas S. Jones and his firm ELITE Change, Inc. helped secure a victory for the Hon. Dr. Keith Rowley and the Peopleโ€™s National Political Movement Party in its successful bid to form the Government of Trinidad & Tobago on Monday. Brought on by partner firm Vestige Strategies as part of a team of five consultants, Jones was tasked with designing and executing the comprehensive, nation-wide โ€œGet Out The Voteโ€ efforts for Dr. Rowley and the Peopleโ€™s National Movement campaign.
Generally if you want to act as a social activist for a cause to raise support, you need a significant background and immersion with the local culture, so I find it particularly odd how his entire group was from the US
>Widely renowned for its knowledge and successes in organizing all communities but particularly communities of color throughout the South, ELITE Changeโ€™s selection to help head Rowleyโ€™s GOTV efforts was a natural fit for the Prime Minister-electโ€™s campaign. Jonesโ€™ team โ€“ made up of consultants from across the United States โ€“ proved to be a crucial factor in the campaignโ€™s success in the weeks leading up to Election Day.
Let's not forget this guy was the one investigated (though not convicted) in Texas due to allegations of fraud organization.
His organization deleted the links to the Biden campaign as accusations heated up.
>Congratulations to Dallas Jones, President and CEO of Elite Change, Inc., for being selected to serve as the Texas Political Director for the Biden Campaign! We look forward to helping Biden/Harris win Texas in November! #vote #BidenHarris2020 #BlueWave #TurnTexasBlue
Worth remembering that the credible cases of directly DNC linked fraud organizing from 2018 weren't even prosecuted until 2020, meanwhile some other unlinked activists got caught
"Nichiren's meat tusks"
In case you all didn't notice, you're in for some kind of treat today. Some days, I just love the way google translate mangles the Japanese. Like this bit with the "fruit report"...
Anyhow, we're talking about the Onikuge here, Nichiren's "living" tooth with the gum tissue miraculously growing all around it!!
>Among these treasures, there is an especially mysterious one, the Onikuge, a tooth of Nichiren Daishonin. He himself pulled a tooth which had become loose, and gave it to his favorite disciple. A tiny bit of flesh that still adhered to the root of the tooth has grown larger for the past 660 years and now, almost the whole surface of the tooth is covered with flesh. Unbelieveably, this is a living tooth.
>Since the Onikuge is thus a mysterious and valuable treasure, it is not customarily shown except on special occasions. However, in recent times, it was opened to the view of all worshippers on the 700th anniversary of Nichiren Shoshu, 1952, and at the ceremonies of Odaigawari (ritual ceremony for the installation of the High Priest), held in 1957 and 1960. At the 1960 ceremony, 200,000 worshippers, including medical specialists and physiologists, were permitted to have the honor of seeing it from a distance of 20 inches, and they were deeply impressed with its dignity, for the Onikuge looks alive and shines with a pearly luster.
Dignified tooth!
>There is nothing in the world more mysterious than this sacred Onikuge. It tells us without speaking, the dignity of Buddhism and the mystery of life. ...from the Nichirenshoshu Sokagakkai - 1960 Source
>Wanna SEE it?
That's from our earlier reporting on the...thing here.
There is nothing more consistent with reason and common sense than a tooth that continues to grow living tissue after having been separated from its original mouth housing for over seven centuries! So much for "Buddhism is reason. Buddhism is common sense."
Apparently, the story goes that when the "gum tissue" grows enough to completely encircle the base of the tooth, that will indicate that the time of kosen-rufu is at hand:
A Cast in Review - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
So I've been replaying (or rewatching, in some cases) a bunch of Ace Attorney lately. It's gotten me in the mood to write up some big text posts, so I think I'll start a series of threads like this one, in which I'll outline my thoughts on the characters in each game as I'm going along. Some characters will get a bunch of detail from me, others won't. So, away we go!
PHOENIX WRIGHT
This is the game in which Phoenix feels the most like a relatively blank player stand-in. The specific intention with his dialogue was to try and give him the kind of reactions that the player would most likely be having at any given moment. About the only thing to give him much developed character of his own is the bit of backstory he's given surrounding the class trial that first inspired his interest in law. This gives us the first sign of what will become a recurring trait of his, in that Phoenix is kind of... weirdly intense about relationships. His friendship with Larry, established in the game's opening minutes, comes across as very mundane in comparison to the way he'll act toward other friends and allies later.
No problem with that, of course. Leaving his characterization open like this makes it easy for the player to step comfortably into his role in the story from the beginning. Given time, it might start to seem a bit strange how very little we know about Nick outside of the relationships we see directly established during the events of the games, though.
Phoenix in Rise From the Ashes is a different story, to some extent. As a natural result of the case being the last one written in the original trilogy's timeframe, Nick comes across considerably more like the world-weary, deeply sarcastic fellow he'll be in later games. The way he becomes totally despondent and unmotivated with Maya temporarily out of his life is interesting, too. The unfortunate circumstances under which they first met made them pretty emotionally reliant upon one another in no time at all.
LARRY BUTZ
This is Larry at his most harmless. Phoenix describes him as a decent guy in the game's first case, and he comes across that way during that episode. He's overdramatic, but give the guy a break - his girlfriend was just murdered, and despite some misgivings that come up during Larry's trial, Cindy actually seems to have genuinely cared about him.
Case 4 Larry is good, too. He's not especially skilled at helping, but he does his best to try and protect Edgeworth from a Guilty verdict. I
Satirical take on US Intervention in HK
Disclaimer: First post on here so apologies if this goes a bit long/off-topic, but here is a satirical take on American political discourse influenced by the recent George Floyd case
Revolutionising the Revolution โ€“ A Call for American Liberation
Few revolutions in History can be considered to have โ€œsolvedโ€ the basic human struggles of self-liberation, mutual co-existence and a fulfilling of human capabilities. As Marx argued in the German Ideology (1846), when an economic base in society impels a revolutionary, and often bourgeois, class to break free from existing modes of production, the ideals of this class become inextricably tied with the material interests of this new ruling establishment. Yet when such revolutions lead not to socialism, but rather bourgeois capitalism, foreign action is necessary to prevent the demise of our freedom-loving comrades. This is no truer for any nation than for the oppressed victims of racial and market-led exploitation living in the tyranny of the United States. Revolutionaries cannot become complacent, nor can we afford to stop historical praxis in its tracks. Thus, in view of such extreme violations of economic and human rights, China and the world must stand with our American comrades and offer unilateral legal support in order to liberate these victims of daylight exploitation. China will continue to seek international action and sabotage the American economy until all five of our demands are met. Not one less.
Minnesotaโ€™s 5 Demands
 1. Recantation of all slurs such as โ€œriotersโ€, โ€œlootersโ€ and โ€œthugsโ€ against American protesters
 2. Independent Inquiry into American police brutality with justice to offending officers
 3. Implementation of complete universal healthcare and worker-led cooperatives through affirmative action
 4. Withdrawal of all US extradition bills
 5. Withdrawal of all military and economic influence from countries affected by US imperialism alongside adequate reparations
Civilising the Civiliser
That regime change is necessary to protect the lives of Americans, and to allow the self-determination of its African-American population has become a truism which hardly needs defending. On Monday 25 May, wounds from centuries of racial-struggle were violently ripped open. Defenceless victims of police brutality and state-led racism watched on helplessly as George Floyd of Minneapolis, a 46-year old Jack Yates graduate, became the latest victim of the totalitarian A
A Guide to Voting in the General Election in Mississippi, and an Important Note about Restricted Absentee Voting
VOTER REGISTRATION HAS ENDED AS OF MONDAY, OCTOBER 5
POLLS ARE OPEN 7:00am-7:00pm
https://www.sos.ms.gov/pollingplace/pages/default.aspx
IMPORTANT NOTE: FOR ANYBODY WHO DOES NOT HAVE A VALID EXCUSE TO VOTE ABSENTEE, YOU MAY NOT VOTE ABSENTEE IN MISSISSIPPI. YOU MUST VOTE IN-PERSON, AT YOUR LOCAL PRECINCT ON ELECTION DAY. THERE IS NO EARLY VOTING IN MISSISSIPPI, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY. Please see the ABSENTEE VOTING IN-PERSON and ABSENTEE VOTING-BY-MAIL sections down below.
Because Mississippi Election law is rather complex, there are 6 side notes that I have listed below, that I feel are important to note:
SIDE NOTE #1: WHILE "IN-PERSON ABSENTEE" VOTING BEGINS TODAY, IT IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH A VALID EXCUSE.
SIDE NOTE #2: Unlike all other 49 states and DC, being at a higher-than-normal risk for COVID-19 due to a pre-existing condition is actually not technically a minimum valid excuse to vote absentee in Mississippi. Explanation and recommendations on what to do listed down below in the ABSENTEE VOTING-BY-MAIL section.
SIDE NOTE #3: If you qualify to vote-by-mail (see list in the ABSENTEE VOTING-BY-MAIL section below), you must realize that you have to:
(a) have your application (NOT ballot, but application) notarized (b) have (1) witness sign the ballot itself (c) you have to mail it back, as hand-delivery of absentee ballots is illegal and strictly prohibited in the State of Mississippi
SIDE NOTE #4: IF YOU HAVE AN INCONSISTENT OR BAD SIGNATURE, IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU EITHER VOTE IN-PERSON ON ELECTION DAY OR BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL WHEN SIGNING YOUR BALLOT. Mississippi currently provides NO NOTIFICATION OR CURE PROCESS for mismatched signatures, so, if your signature doesn't match the one on your ballot APPLICATION (NOT voter registration, but ballot application), you should assume that it will be rejected outright, without your knowledge. (See page 22 and 23 of the County Election Handbook in the list of links at the bottom of the page.)
SIDE NOTE #5: if you are voting in-person on Election Day or absentee (VALID EXCUSE ONLY), you will need to provide a form of valid photo identification. YOUR PHOTO ID NEEDS TO BE CURRENT AS OF NOVEMBER 3, 2010, AS YOUR ID CANNOT BE EXPIRED NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS BEFORE THE DATE OF THE UPCOMING ELECTION.
