[DISCUSSION] One thing that I don't think is emphasized enough is the importance of bracing the right (pick hand) forearm against the body of the guitar - an easy remedy against overuse of the left (fret hand) thumb and forefinger.

Guitar player of 25+ years here. I haven't seen too much about this here or anywhere I think. The obvious application of this for a beginner is barre chords. But I was just now playing a solo melody line that required some bends/vibrato with the middle and index fingers, and realized I wasn't hardly clamping with my thumb at all. Instead, I had the upper hip of the guitar in the fleshy (flabby) part of my forearm about 2 inches out from the crook of my elbow, and the back of the guitar braced against the right side of my ribcage as a fulcrum. Try this next time your thumb gets tired!

Anyone else developing crazy chef hands on their thumb and forefinger?

OK guys, weird subject, I know.... I don't see anyone here talking about it, but I have to bring it up. I know you should never touch your cap while it's hot. That being said, I've gotten into nasty habits like:

- Checking the status of my current pack while the cap is still extremely hot

- Accidentally dropping my just heated cap on the floor and immediately picking it up and juggling it to avoid melting the carpet

- Using my finger and thumbs to work as a heat sink and quicken the cooldown clicks

Anyone else do this? Am I just a dumbass? I don't recommend that anyone do this stuff but I can't imagine I'm alone here.

[TOMT] [Short story] Foreigner takes advantage of his bigoted rival's illiteracy, tricks him into drinking a certain type of alcohol, poisoning and killing him; story told through eyes of forefinger's apprentice

I read this short story in eighth grade (the 2001-02 school year for reference) told through the eyes of a young apprentice to a foreign man running a business in a small town. The apprentice studies his school work in his downtime and his mentor always tells him "Is good to read" or "Is good to know how to read", something along those lines. The antagonist is a bigoted town drunk who can't read and hates the foreign man. He always calls him "Dutchy" and is always trying to provoke a fight, at one point succeeding in egging him into a brawl. Somehow the business owner recruits the bigot to help with a delivery out of town, and while on that delivery run the bigot dies. The narrator sees the body when its brought back to town, along with the barrels he was supposed to deliver. The barrels are labeled as poisonous, for some reason I think grain alcohol but I'm not sure about that, the label says "[something] DO NOT DRINK". At the end the foreigner repeats the words to his apprentice "Is good to read" or "Is good to know how to read", again something along those lines.

Have at it, sleuths!

now i see the importance of forefinger

when i was beginner violinist i watched many youtube videos and they all told me to keep a relaxed forefinger , there is a motion when you do the down-bowing , if you see that animation that means you got it , you have a relaxed forefinger(and probably relaxed right hand in general)

i used to didnt care about this but now im 3 years in and i notice i do this without even noticing. and my hand is indeed relaxed. (not as pro violinist of course but im definitely getting somewhere)

so yeah guys keep your right forefinger relaxed , and try to imitate that animation when you change your bow (change from upbow to down-bow)

also sorry for the english in my shitty country they dont teach us good english but i just wanted to share this here.

How to fix drift/random inputs from the left hand ministick (forefinger joystick) on the thrustmaster t16000m

So I posted this in the comments of another thread but figured I would post it in its own thread for more visibility.

I used to have an issue with the ministick on the throttle where it would constantly give an input even if I wasn't pushing it in a direction. The solution is to increase the deadzone in elite's settings.

I only needed to increase the deadzone by one increment, which was big enough to solve the issue but too small for me to notice a difference in the responsiveness when using the thrusters. If the drift is bigger you may need to increase the deadzone by a little more, but it still shouldn't make a huge difference when playing the game.

Also bear in mind that you need to set this deadzone for the y and x axes of everything you use the ministick for e.g. thrusters, headlook, 3rd person camera etc.

Hope this helps! o7

I've tried googling, but only end up with stories about chefs severing their entire hands etc. Hoping some seasoned pros may be able to shed some light?
