On first glance this looks like a terrible low budget film that you would just skip by without a thought haha. While it is indeed low budget itβs really good. Kept me very entertained the whole time. Loved the whole impending doom feeling.
I love discussing movies and am always looking to branch out and find something new. I realize it can be a fairly difficult task to decide which ones make the cut, so if you can, I'd love to hear them and why they made your list!
Mine are as follows:
Scream
Halloween: H20
The Faculty
Halloween (1978)
Dawn of the Dead (original and remake)
Evil Dead (2013)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (original and Dream Warriors)
Shaun of the Dead
Freddy Vs. Jason
Cabin Fever (original)
Bonus 11th movie: Showgirls (kidding)
Aside from the top 3, the order of the rest tends to change depending on the day.
Honorable mentions: Ready Or Not is quickly becoming a favorite as well. Paranormal Activity, Scream 4, Saw, Zombieland, Jennifer's Body, Army of Darkness, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Tusk, The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror (orig./remake), It (original tv movie and remakes), Secret Window, Halloween (2018), The Last House On The Left (orig./remake), Red State (if you consider that a horror flick), Trick 'r Treat, all could end up on a longer list.
I've been curious on how others play this game. I find that swinging my arms is more fun personally, as I feel it makes the game more challenging, but that's the reason I play the way I do. How do you play?
I would not want to be the maintenance person for that.
Much like /r/changemyview, this /r/Flicks CMV thread is for you to post viewpoints you hold about movies, directors, trends, genres, etc, and learn and discuss reasons for dissent. Your CMV topic does not have to be a long comment/question, but try and give some short insight to avoid rule #5. Have fun and remember rule #1.
Iβve discovered I really dig movies like Bring it On, Blue Crush, and of course Mean Girls, and would really like to check out more like these. Iβm not looking for straight up chick flicks, as Iβd argue the above three films have quite a bit more to offer than your run of the mill formulaic teen movie. Thanks!
Just had a neighbour come back from a 300$ vet visit after her 12 month pup ate a discarded joint. It's a brutal thing for animals to eat.
Get lit, then bin it!
So... Here we go.
Pulp Fiction is the only Tarantino movie without any self referencing. You may think it's because it was one of his first movies and he had nothing to self reference yet. But the real reason is that the only real world we see is the one in Pulp Fiction, and all other movies are in-universe movies the characters in Pulp Fiction watch on TV. The continuous references to Red Apple cigarettes are product placement; this is the reason this particular brand is referenced in most movies. Why would Tarantino insist into putting a constant reference to a non-existing brand of ciggies? It makes no sense. But, if Red Apple cigarettes are an actual brand of cigarettes in the Pulp Fiction world, it would make sense that the brand put some product placement into the movies, since they all are violent movies targeted to adults. It would also explain why The hateful 8 announces itself as "The 8th film by Quentin Tarantino", when it actually is the 9th: Pulp Fiction isn't a movie, it's real life, and Tarantino is a TV film director who lives and directs in that world.
