This will raise on average $37b a year. [Which isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things because it's taxing people who are making >1m. Capital gains tax is how the poor thinks the upper class lowers their tax burden. In actuality, it's how the upper-middle class lowers their tax burden. It's mostly professionals and stemlords in high CoL areas who are making just above six figures getting a portion of their salary from shares of their company. It halves their tax burden if they hold their investment for a while, which is nice, but it's not even close to the pro league in terms of dodging taxes. If this tax wants to make some real revenue, it should apply the higher rate to everyone making six figures or more. Keeping it only for people above 1m is virtue signaling at best, and taxing morality at worst. The actual wealthy have other ways of avoiding taxes. This article contains the list: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/robinhood-expands-trading-restrictions-50-225241993.html
I know other brokerages restricted GME/AMC. But Robinhood's restricted list was way bigger and included stocks such as AMD, AAL, BYND, GM, IPOE, MRNA, and SBUX. I had got into stocks in January 2021 as a new years resolution. Which was a couple weeks before the GME stuff and reddit trading was even all over the news. At the time I honestly thought the buying restriction was something a part of the stock market. As a few stocks had been getting suspended in trading in both buying/selling quite frequently prior to RH restrictions.
Now that a couple months have passed looking back. Im honestly shocked RH didn't receive any type of fine/punishment for that. They limited the upside on 50 stocks while still leaving holders open to the full downside. I really hope that doesn't happen again.
I just got into an argument with a friend because I don't want to go to grad school or "move up" at my job and instead I am getting a CDL and looking at driving over the road. I am just tired of dealing with people's complaining and drama. No co worker I don't care how much your task or life sucks. I don't care about your gf/wife or boyfriend cheating on you. I want to drive semi trucks because almost everything I need is in the truck. I can drive for 12 hours a day, park and just crawl into the sleeper cab and fall asleep. I don't have to deal with anyones drama, nobody is relying on me other than the dispatcher and the shipper and receiver, I don't have to listen to anyone's drama anymore. It is just me and the road. Sure there will be times where I will be stressed out but I won't have to listen to everyone complain about how much they hate work or their family and home life.
fines should hurt people equally. $50 to a person living paycheck to paycheck is a huge setback; to someone earning six figures, it’s almost nothing. to people earning more than that, a drop in the ocean. a lot of rich people just park in disabled spots because the fine is nothing and it makes their life more convenient. Finland has done this with speeding tickets, and a Nokia executive paid around 100k for going 15 above the speed limit. i think this is the most fair and best way to enforce the law. if we decided fines on percentages, people would suffer proportionately equal to everyone else who broke said law. making fines dependent on income would make crime a financial risk for EVERYONE.
EDIT: Well, this blew up. everyone had really good points to contribute, so i feel a lot more educated (and depressed) than I did a few hours ago! all in all, what with tax loopholes, non liquid wealth, forfeiture, pure human shittiness, and all the other things people have mentioned, ive concluded that the system is impossibly effed and we are the reason for our own destruction. have a good day!
As the title says, I don't see any wrong in pirating content that isn't available to buy in your country. I think you are rather doing the content creator team a favor by doing so as you are in a way increasing the popularity of the show and the people who have access to the content and can afford to buy the dvd might be more inclined to buy something that is more popular. So you are kind of doing them a favor by pirating their content.
Moreover I think people should make it a habit to at least rate the movie or series that they watch. That way you'll be contributing to the popularity of the show.
So yeah that's my two cent. I can't write like most of the other people here as english is my second language. Anyway if it makes sense then that's pretty cool. If it doesn't then please don't downvote as downvoting would cause it to die in new without any interaction and I won't get to hear why my view isn't correct.
I very well understand that piracy is not acceptable, but the current model of content delivery is broken. At the moment I have no qualms whatsoever ripping off the odd movie and TV show that isn't available to buy in my country and I see no reason to not experience something for a reason like not being available. There's so much infighting and lack of collaboration from TV and movie studios that no one service is good enough.
I go to the cinema plenty, and I buy movie dvds when I have the chance, so i pay my dues. But this experience is getting less and less pleasurable as it is struggling to compete with my 4k TV connected to my PC at home where I can easily download any movie or series and stream/play it easily. But I always make it an attempt to look for a possibility to watch it in a way that it contributes to the content creator. If it's not available then of course piracy is going to be my choice.
If you look at it then piracy is entirely a distribution problem. There will always be some people who pirate no matter what but majority of people might pirate for only easy access and not only for the sake of pirating. Let's take Netflix(subscribed to it) for example , it allows us to browse large numbers of movies , watching previews of them and then watch it on the spot. Most methods of piracy require you to download the complete movie first and then watch it. This is exactly why streaming platform like Netflix is so popular. Now if only if these studios would realize that the only thing Netflix needs is selection. If pretty much eve... keep reading on reddit ➡
I was working at this clothing store years ago, no commission. It was the brand’s first store in my area, and I stayed with them for about 2 years. They were pretty desperate too as they hired me on the spot.
Anyway, all the supervisors I liked ended up quitting and the remaining ones were just plain not nice. I was the youngest on the team and they always excluded me and bullied me. I guess jealousy? Which I never understood, because although I got positive reviews and customers making sure to point out that I helped them, we did NOT have sales commissions. I just liked to help, and I liked fashion. I also was in school, and they often called me to cover for people (school was close by, so I could be there fast).
I was always adaptable for them, but this one supervisor just had it out for me. My hours got cut, they were messing with my mental health... I needed a change. I applied to this other job and I was quite sure I got it. I decided I would book two weeks off work, around the time the start date would be. My supervisor did not even want to let me have the time off (despite it being the only days other than exams I had booked off in 2 years). And they are unpaid!
Fast forward to the day before my 2 week vacation. I got the job. I show up at the clothing store (no shift) and ask to speak with my supervisor. We talk, i quit. She had the sarcastic happiness, but I did not care I was over it. The supervisor made it clear that I was still required to work all my shifts for the next two weeks, and that I better not slack.
I smiled at her, thanked her for acknowledging my work ethic, and put my name tag and keys on her desk. She looked confused. I reminded her that I took two weeks off, so this is goodbye. I turned around and left. Mental health has been so much better without her. The store is now closed permanently.
EDIT: original contract said I was supposed to give 2 weeks notice. I don’t know what they penalty would be if I went MIA. This job was not a career job, I did not care for a reference and did not intend to put it on a resume.
EDIT 2: This is a Canadian story and I could’ve just quit on the spot but I followed the rules.
Thanks for the awards 😎
But apes just keep buying. We know what's happening and their bought "news" sources can't fool us anymore. The only way is BUY AND HODL.
So stop expecting things to happen or the price to moon on certain dates, stop thinking we moon if we reach certain prices. Their plan is to shut our hype down, make us bored and doubtful. But it won't happen anymore. The only way is BUY AND HODL.
The only way is BUY AND HODL.
It's really simple apes. Keep reading DD, keep learning investing and finance, keep questioning everything. But the bottom line won't change.
Diamond fucking hands 💎🙌
Let me start by saying im not suicidal but contemplate death and it's endless possibilities on what comes after.
How insignificant all of our actions are in the grand scheme of things and it's asphyxia-like grip.
I love my wife and kids without a shadow of a doubt.
Everything I do is for them, but I don't want to be a battery in the machine just to run out and be replaced after a certain expiration date.
Everything is bland, tasteless but also beautiful and vibrant.
The more knowledge acquired, the clearer the world's issues become.
I'm alive when spectacular things happen to me but for the most part I'm just coasting until the next cool thing happens.
Then I have these moments where I think to myself "Come on DDH, how can YOU complain about xyz when there are FAR worse off people than you?"
So if I go tomorrow, today, or 7 minutes from now.
That's okay with me.
Tl;dr Am I the only one in feeling this way?
Edit: To the kind stranger who reported this post, thank you:) I don't need assistance but im glad you would help your fellow human.
Edit 2: I'm still in awe of the amount of people who lean this way with me. I've spent all day replying and learned a lot that were great takeaways.
Just do your best.
