Wikipedia Page of the Day: Pushpaka Vimana (1987 film)

[Pushpaka Vimana (1987 film)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pushpaka_Vimana_(1987_film)

Pushpaka Vimana (transl. The Flower Chariot) is a 1987 Indian comedy film written and directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, who co-produced it with Kannada actor Shringar Nagaraj. The film, which has no dialogue, stars Kamal Haasan, Amala and Tinnu Anand with Sameer Khakhar, K. S. Ramesh, Loknath, Pratap K. Pothen, P. L. Narayana, Farida Jalal and Ramya in supporting roles. It revolves around an unemployed graduate who encounters a drunk millionaire unconscious and takes over his lifestyle after keeping him prisoner. However, he does not realise the dangers he has brought upon himself because a hired hitman believes him to be his target.

Rao's desire to make a dialogue-less film came when he was working as an assistant director in a film where a character had to emote fear without dialogue in a scene. Once the idea for Pushpaka Vimana materialised, Rao wrote the screenplay within two weeks. The film was the only one produced by Nagaraj. Due to the lack of dialogue, Rao was able to cast actors from different parts of India. Cinematography was handled by B. C. Gowrishankar, editing by D. Vasu, art direction by Thota Tharani and the background score was composed by L. Vaidyanathan. The film was shot in Bangalore.

The film was released on 27 November 1987 with different titles for different regions: its original title Pushpaka Vimana in Karnataka, Pushpak (transl. Flower) in Hindi-speaking regions, Pesum Padam (transl. Talking Picture) in Tamil Nadu, Pushpaka Vimanamu in Andhra Pradesh and Pushpakvimanam in Kerala. It received critical acclaim and became a commercial success, with a 35-week theatrical run in Bangalore. The film later won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and in three categories at the 35th Filmfare Awards South: Best Film, Best Director – Kannada (Rao) and Best Actor – Kannada (Haasan).

Ankita - Sushant breakup news articles

A six-year relationship that was expected to end with a big fat Indian wedding this year, the groom leading the baraat on an elephant, has ended. And they are both devastated," a close friend of Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande informed Mirror, insisting that even though the estranged couple has fought bitterly and reconciled many times, this time they are determined to go their separate ways.

The 30-year-old actor takes off with Kriti Sanon for a two-month schedule of Dinesh Vijan's directorial debut, Raabta, to Bucharest and Croatia today. Ankita will continue living in their Pali Hill penthouse, the Rs 20 crore love nest they'd moved into last year, till she figures out what she wants to do now that Sushant is out of her life.

"He has been urging her since last year to get back to work. She's a natural actress and dancer and he wasn't happy that she'd quit on her passion to make him the focal point of her existence. It wasn't to earn money, he was capable of supporting both of them in style, but because he knew that her self-worth two years from now would be moulded by what she was doing today,"reasons the friend. After the break-up Ankita has been talking about picking up the reins of her career.

Buzz is, the long shoot away from home was the reason for the split. But the friend insists that's not true. He reveals that even without her asking, Sushant had given her the details of his schedule, inviting her to visit him on location, whenever and wherever.

He also dismisses rumours that a selfie with Parineeti Chopra which the actor shared on Instagram was the bone of contention. The Shuddh Desi Romance co-stars had run into each other after two years of silence at Vijan's office. And this had not gone down well with his 31-year-old live-in partner who had not cared for them locking lips ever so often in the film and is believed to have slapped Sushant in full view in a studio canteen. The friend rubbishes this story saying Ankita was not affected or threatened by Parineeti or any other woman.

"She knew he was not cheating on her. In fact, a few days ago, when Sushant went to Cape Town for three days for a shoot with two girls, he surprised her by asking her to accompany him. She was the only woman in his life for six years, He was happy if she was happy and vice versa," he asserts.

But the couple who met on the sets of Ekta Kapoor's tele drama, Pavitra Rishta, and moved from heated arguments and cold silences to a m

Let's all take a moment to appreciate the gem that Avinash Tiwary was in Laila Majnu.

Good Lord. I know I'm a bit late to the party but I watched Laila Majnu (2018) recently. The guy who played Majnu acted his ASS off. I am talking REAL, enough to make you cry your eyes off acting. Heavenly stuff. Laila's character was a treat as well. Not your usual Bollywood Mary Sue, the character was pretty likable. Not to mention the occasional Kashmiri accent was endearing too. But the guy really won this for me. He absolutely went to town on this role.

How in the ever loving hell did a mediocre film like Dhadak (which released in the same year) manage to beat a film like this? Ishaan was the only saving grace of that film. I'm sorry to the stans, but Janhvi can't emote to save her life. She has the screen presence of a potato, and cannot move her face because of all the surgeries. I still haven't recovered from: "Puppy, matlab kutte ka baccha?" We as the audience love to cry the woes of Nepotism literally every opportunity we get. But all of us can agree, Nepotism is what sells, right?

Now the stalker that I am, I dug up a little dirt on this guy. So this guy apparently threw a huge fit on twitter after he wasn't nominated for a single award for his brilliant portrayal of Majnu. Justifiably so, if you ask me. But what made this sadder is that he pulled a Siddhant Chaturvedi and stopped recognising Nepotism for the cancer that it is after Karan Johar cast him in a role in his flop webseries 'Ghost Stories'. It makes my heart break that even talented outsiders fall prey to their overlords' evils in Bollywood. It also boils my blood that Bollywood can award Ananya Pandey a Filmfare for sTrUgGliNg so much but has got nothing for such talented non-nepo products.

R. K. Narayan

Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami (10 October 1906 – 13 May 2001), commonly known as R. K. Narayan, was an Indian writer known for his work set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi. He was a leading author of early Indian literature in English along with Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao.

Narayan's mentor and friend Graham Greene was instrumental in getting publishers for Narayan's first four books including the semi-autobiographical trilogy of Swami and Friends, The Bachelor of Arts and The English Teacher. The fictional town of Malgudi was first introduced in Swami and Friends. Narayan's The Financial Expert was hailed as one of the most original works of 1951 and Sahitya Academy Award winner The Guide was adapted for film (winning a Filmfare Award for Best Film) and for Broadway.

Narayan highlights the social context and everyday life of his characters. He has been compared to William Faulkner who also created a similar fictional town and likewise explored with humour and compassion the energy of ordinary life. Narayan's short stories have been compared with those of Guy de Maupassant because of his ability to compress a narrative.

In a career that spanned over sixty years Narayan received many awards and honours including the AC Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, India's second and third highest civilian awards, and in 1994 the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour of India's national academy of letters. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India's parliament.

An introduction and guide to Pakistani pop music and stars

Hello everyone. Not sure how many people would be interested in this but I decided to do a little write up on pop music and stars from my country. I've decided to include a variety of mainstream music as "pop music" even though some may include more traditional sounds as well as rock fusions. This post is meant to showcase a small handful of Pakistani songs and artists from every generation to hopefully introduce these artists to western popheads.

To start off, due to the similarity of Urdu and Hindi Pakistani pop music is closely linked to India. In many ways it has influenced the Indian/Bollywood pop music scene and in a lot of ways it has been influenced by them. Cultural exchange is huge and Pakistani artists like Atif Aslam are some of the biggest musical artists in India.

#60s-70s

Early Pakistani pop music doesn't have a lot of documentation behind it. Most of the songs, similar to Bollywood, were film playback songs from the 60s-70s. With the decline of the Pakistani film industry this style of music was eventually phased out. The biggest song from this era can be summed up with Ko Ko Korina by Ahmed Rushdi, the song was absolutely massive and to this day remains one of the most legendary songs ever in the country and is still played and sung at every Pakistani wedding. Weddings have a huge influence on the popularity of songs in Pakistan.

Other big names from this era include: Runa Laila, the Queen Bengali pop who started her career when Pakistan and Bangladesh were one country, she now lives in Bangladesh and is still active musically. Alamgir, another Bengali pop king although this one identified with Pakistan after the independence of Bangladesh. There was no match for Alamgir's popularity in those days, he was the Michael Jackson of Pakistan, although not as fondly remembered as his contemporaries, he was massively influential nonetheless, bringing over a more western pop sound to Pakistani music as well as disco and funk.

#80s

Now in the 80's, Pakistanis had become more accustomed to the westernized sound introduced by Alamgir, and unlike the tensions of the 60s and 70s of war between India and Pakistan, things were relatively more normal between the countries which meant there could be more art collaboration between them. Less tensions gave birth to the career of the biggest pop star in Pakistan's

The Mani Ratnam Rabbit hole - Part 2 - Roja/Bombay/Dil Se - The Thematic Trilogy

𝟭. 𝗥𝗼𝗷𝗮(𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟮)

On 28 June 1991, K. Doraiswamy, an executive of the Indian Oil Corporation, was kidnapped by Kashmiri militants and put in captivity for two months. This inspired Mani Ratnam to make the film Roja. Doraiswamy's wife was fighting for his release, and according to Ratnam, it was her plight that the film was based on.

Filmmaker Mani Ratnam, coming off of a successful collaboration with music director Ilaiyaraaja, chose to work with a young composer called AS Dileep Kumar for the first time. When Roja hit screens, audiences heard the gentle melody of ‘Choti si Asha’, the thundering chorus of ‘Bharat Humko Jaan se Pyara hai’, the beautiful visuals painted by 'Yeh Haseen Vaadiyan', the fun cult classic track 'Rukkumani' Dileep became AR Rahman and Roja went on to be listed in Time magazine’s 10 Best Soundtracks of all time.

Roja starts out as a simple love story but soon transforms into an abduction tale. Ratnam’s Roja is a sweet-faced country girl who loves her blissful life. Her name means Rose.

Roja(1992) is also a contemporary adaptation of the story Savitri and Satyavan from the Indian epic Mahabharat set in the backdrop of the Kashmir conflict. The tale of Satyavan and Savitri is recited in the Mahabharat as a story of conjugal love conquering death. Satyavan is the soul carrying the divine truth of being within itself but descended into the grip of death and ignorance; Savitri is the divine word, daughter of the Sun, Goddess of the supreme truth who comes down and is born to save while Yama is the Lord of Death & Justice being responsible for the dispensation of law and punishment of sinners in his abode, Yamlok. In that sense Roja is allegorical, the characters are personified qualities from mythology.

The film traces the story of a woman (Savitri)Roja who marries (Satyavan)Rishi, a cryptologist working with R.A.W and fights a tenacious battle to rescue him from (Yama)Liaqat played by Pankaj Kapur. From then on, even as we're shown Roja battling on the sidelines, pleading with authorities to enable the release of her husband, she essentially becomes an idea - one that keeps Rishi alive and fighting. It was by making the audience invest their emotions in this couple thrown into a kind of violence that they've only read about in the newspapers that Mani Ratnam succeeded in bringing home the Kashmir conflict.

One could argue that the director paints too simplistic a picture while depicting the conflict in Kashmir depicti

Jacqueline Fernandez to play Smita Patil’s role in the remake of 1982 film Arth

Mirror had earlier reported (September 11, 2017) that Sharat Chandra has roped in South actress-filmmaker Revathi to direct the remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s path-breaking 1982 drama Arth, which had featured Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi as the leads. Incidentally, Revathi played one of the leads in the film’s 1993 Tamil remake, Marupadiyum, directed by the late Balu Mahendra, as the estranged wife who eventually chooses to live independently as a single mother to the daughter of her domestic help.

Shabana played the role in the original, bagging the National Award and a Filmfare Black Lady for her performance. Smita was equally impressive as the other woman, Kavita, who after breaking up Inder and Pooja’s marriage, is racked by guilt and insecurity and ends up breaking off the relationship. Mirror has now learnt that the makers have approached Jacqueline Fernandez to reprise Smita’s role of a glamorous actress.

According to a source close to the development, Revathi has been working on the script for a while, besides the prep, before starting on the casting. “Now, with that in place, the makers reached out to Jacqueline recently and she really liked both, the concept and her role. She is really excited to be a part of the remake of an iconic film like Arth and has given her verbal consent to the part but is yet to sign on the dotted line,” informs a source.

R. K. Narayan

Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami (10 October 1906 – 13 May 2001), was an Indian writer known for his works set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi.

Narayan's The Financial Expert was hailed as one of the most original works of 1951 and Sahitya Akademi Award winner The Guide was adapted for film (winning a Filmfare Award for Best Film) and for Broadway.

In a career that spanned over sixty years Narayan received many awards and honours including the AC Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, India's second and third highest civilian awards. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India's parliament.
