> King’s Landing, 380 AC
Not so long ago the Great Hall of King’s Landing was a place of bloodshed. Now it was a gathering for reveling, at least for this night. The skulls of the dragons had been moved from the sides of the hall to circle around the Iron Throne to make more room for the dozens of tables needed for the capacity they would be seeing. Nobility and knights from across the realm were gathered for the first time since the rebellion.
Atop each of the tables were plentiful amounts of meat: roasted duck, boar’s ribs, and potted hare, seared beef, assorted sausages, and baked goat legs. Vegetables also accompanied each dish of meat in smaller bowls, most notably the assorted salads of spinach, onion, olives, mushrooms, and green pepper. Heated vegetables were also present in the form of roasted carrots, beans, and lentil soups.
Wine, of course, was also present. King Daeron had requested wine from across the realm in anticipation for the feast to accompany the meals. Most... keep reading on reddit ➡
Once all the events of the tournament had been completed, next on the itinerary came Grand Feast within Highgarden's Great Hall, with dozens of long tables set up with places for each of the houses and guests present to celebrate the long reign of King Garth Gardener XII.
A dozen courses are sent out throughout the night, with a vast array of dishes from across the continent being served to both lower lords and monarchs alike. Cakes, soups, dozens of different meats, and pies all laid out for any and all to feast upon.
At the front of the Great Hall sat the High Table, with Houses Gardener, Martell, Lannister, Bracken, and Arryn (and any other monarchs who would attend, message me if I missed any).
The rest of the tables were set out separate areas, with one assigned to each visiting region. The area for the Reachlords and other members of the High Kingdom was biggest of all.
Well, you've asked and I'll deliver: this morning I exited my 6/19 SPX 1500 position at -$689k (almost -90%).
It doesn't feel great, but it could've been worse. I can't afford to go below $100k so I'm closing things now. My belief in my thesis remains the same; my only mistake is underestimating the Fed's willingness to gamble away America's future just to prop up the stonk market for a month.
I'll be returning to my regular theta gang activities to climb back out of this hole, but rest assured: we'll meet again.

With the tourney of Strongsong having drawn to a close, the attendants are brought into the Hall of Bells for the Feast to formally begin.
Early 9th Moon, Year 7 Loren (75 AD)
The vastness of the Rock could not be understated, nor could the diversity and intricacy of its residents and their dwellings. The Crown and Mane, almost in their entirety, were full of festive decorations and an atmosphere of mirth and leisure. The Casterly Retainers, the nine noble houses whose holdings were almost solely within the Mane of Casterly Rock, had all sought to outdo each other, to draw the King’s guests to their respective suites with food, drink, song, dance, curiosities - and a touch of sin, in many cases, with some of the less-discerning lordlings bringing amorous serving girls to the forefront where normally they would’ve been kept out of sight, or putting games of chance and nights full of playing-cards on offer for notable outsiders who might become friends and patrons, o... keep reading on reddit ➡

The Great Hall of the Stone Drum was a cavernous room at the base of Dragonstone’s mightiest tower. Made of the same smooth, dark stone as the rest of the keep, the tower formed the centerpoint of the fortress’s defenses. At its broad base, the stone was carved into the shape of a great stone dragon whose mouth gaped open, showing the courtyard a mouthful of long, sharp stone teeth. After passing through the teeth, the guests would find themselves in the Great Hall itself. The center of the room was... keep reading on reddit ➡
I was reading "true" hiking stories online and one of them was about a hiker who was injured. Long story short, they thought they made a crow friend because it was cawing and jumping around them after they got injured, but after returning home and researching it, they found that the crow was actually trying to attract some type of predator to them so the crow could eat the leftovers. I say "true" because, after looking online myself, I didn't find anything like that "fact".
Is it bullshit?

The events of the tourney would be followed the next day by the wedding of Russell Merryweather and Samantha Caswell. They were married in the cozy sept inside Longtable. Lord Arthur Caswell walked Samantha down the aisle, trying his hardest to hold back his tears of joy as the Septon raised his eyes to the pair. Lord Arthur quietly squeezed his daughter's shoulders one last time and removed her gold and cream cloak.
"Who stands before the Seven Who Are One to be bound in eternal holy wedlock?"
"Russell of House Merryweather."
"Samantha of House Caswell."
The septon turned to Russell.
"You may cloak the bride and bring her under your protection."
Russell took off his cloak and brought it gingerly around the shoulders of Samantha before returning to her side.
“My lords, My ladies, Sers," the Septon began, "We stand here in the sight of Gods and Men to witness the union of man and wife.... keep reading on reddit ➡

It was dusk, and the last golden glow of the setting sun could be seen glinting off the harbor of Oldtown with all it's many ships coming and going. Everything was cast in a dim golden light from the silver serving platters to the gossamer fabric covering the large open windows that looked over the entire city. The great hall in which the feast was being held was in one of the lower levels of the tower, just above the fortress. At the high table sat Lord Elyas Hightower, his wife Falena, and the rest of his family. A large white gray banner with a white tower, lit by flame, covered the wall behind them, the sigil of House Hightower.
It seemed as though their hosts spared no expense on the feast itself. Servants clad in dark gray clothes came by to place new dishes in front of the attendees at regular intervals. The centerpiece of the feast was a large boar with a face uglier than sin with a golden apple shoved into it's mouth. Cooked slowly in a glaze of ho... keep reading on reddit ➡
After the ceremony in the Sept of Andtown -built of pink marble with great coloured windows - the newly wedded Lord and Lady Ball would host a feast in the great hall of Foxburrow.
The sun set over the sea, bathing the hall in red, golden and orange light. The tables would be laden with fruits, cheese, white bread, venison and roasted meat of lambs, calves and piglets.
The meat would be served with sauces seasoned with pepper, ginger, nutmeg and saffron. Fishes, crayfishes and roosters had also been set out on the tables. Oil was dripping off eel pies, honey off sweet yeast bread, cakes and almond pudding.
To wash all this down there was a wide selection of wines and ales, brandies and ciders, meads and spirits. The smell of hippocras and red vintages hung in the air.
Musicians would play their tunes and the parquet in front of the dais was to serve as the dancefloor.
I’ve just started ‘A Feast for Crows’ and I’ve only read the first chapter and was a little confused as to why the first chapter’s character was called ‘The Prophet’ so I know that that’s Aeron, however I quickly flicked through the book and seen that there’s several chapters where the character has a nickname instead of their actual name. ‘The Captain of The Guards’, ‘The Soiled Knight’, ‘The Queenmaker’, ‘The Reaver’ etc. Without giving spoilers, is there a reason why all these characters are given nicknames instead of their real names?

The Maiden's Ball takes place in the Hall of Bells at Strongsong. I didn't write anything else because I only realized that a dedicated Maiden's Ball thread was the thing I wanted to do like 17 seconds ago.
EDIT: Important info, everyone is given a little piece of paper with the name of their match on it and told to find them.
They were probably already humiliated that a few 11-year-olds managed to get past all their defenses that were meant to keep out dark wizards, and then Dumbledore brings attention to it by publicly giving those students buckets of points for getting past the staff's protections in front of the entire school.
With the day's activities done, the numerous competitors were given the opportunity to get out of their armour, clean and treat themselves, freshen up, and get ready for the feast. And what a feast it would be!
Bertrand Tarly, Lord Tarly's brother, had led Horn Hill's hunters out to acquire numerous game to accompany the food supplied by House Tarly's smallfolk and merchants. Not only was there roast beef, roasted chicken, fat pork sausages, and legs of lamb, but also roasted duck, venison, chamois, ibex, and hare available to eat. Along with all of these meats came loaves of bread, stews, roasted vegtables, fish from the Mander, Honeywine, and Sunset Sea. After these main courses came sweeter treats; cakes, honey-coated biscuits, and sweet fruits from Brightwater Keep and elsewhere in Dorne.
Alcohol was freely flowing too; wines from the Arbor and Oldtown's markets, ciders from Cider Hall, meads from Honeyholt all filled cups. Alongside them were ales and lagers, light and dark alik... keep reading on reddit ➡
OOC: Don't be intimidated by the number of options, you likely won't want to skip on this meal..
It was ready. It was going to be perfect. All it took the boy was some convincing, some preaching about the progress of science, and some compliments. His new assistant was a lot easier to push around, as she only really needed to have a friendly chat rather than the threats and lies that someone like Kara needed. And to add to the situation, his new assistant Alice had Charmspeak to ensure that no one could find him making modifications to all the food..
All he had to do was manufacture evidence of a Circe Child's interference by leaving a tome on illusion-based magic near the scene of crime, and then get food like the rest of these fools. When they all realized what was done and tried to investigate, Alice would be the one to have registered for the meal. When they investigated further, their suspicions would turn to the Circe Cabin. Lucien was going to be among them all, free o... keep reading on reddit ➡

With the nobles of the Vale having assembled at Strongsong, Lady Ursula Belmore has called for the Tourney to officially begin. The Tourney grounds are located just east outside of Strongsong, in a flat meadow by the banks of the meeting of the Glacier’s Yoke and the Frosty Run rivers; the tourney grounds take full advantage of the beautiful weather as the Spring flowers bloom in the Belfry Dale.
The events will proceed as follows: the first day will have the Joust, the second the Melee and the Squire’s Melee, the third the Archery Contest, and on the final day before the feast there will be the Pie Eating Contest followed by the Maiden’s Ball.
I'm reading the series for the second time, and I wanna combine the two books. I found a couple of different combinations. The most famous seems to be Boiled Leather, but there are a few others too. Which one would you recommend and why?
>"Perhaps spring will ring out our reunion, and I'll ride south with a hundred red flowers just for you. I love you."
^(From the correspondence of Lord Harlen Tyrell, "Queenmaker", 379 AC)
"When I was a boy, aye." Vaegon spoke as if his fifteenth year had taken place a decade after his fourteenth, though he was still as much a child now as he was then. "I remember it. Green enamel, same color as my toy soldiers, coming down the Roseroad..."
A trio of lightning bugs flew about, as if embers from Redgrass Field had been given life anew. "Where do you think that good men go when they die, Qyra?"
The lady-in-waiting remained silent. Her cup sat full with Arbor Gold, whilst Vaegon's had been emptied thrice over.
"Perhaps I'd be better served asking a septon." The lordling's laugh was cruel, edged with a grimace that appeared when his chest drew breath. "Go on, then. It's late. Head to your chambers before the old maid catches you." The girl vanished silently thereafter, fleeing... keep reading on reddit ➡
The Tor was a small castle, there was no way around that. Granted it was larger than some holdfasts, but it was little more than stone walls and fortification. Within the keep itself there was little more than dwellings for the Jordaynes, a council chamber, a private dining hall, an armory, and some other small rooms of little importance. Nymeria had forgotten just how tight space was within The Tor. The keep was no place to host a feast and guests.
Fortunately, just outside of the keep and within the inner castle's walls was a more welcoming manse. It hadn't been used in far too long, but after a week of intense cleaning and refurbishing, it became once more a place for guests to come and visit. The lower floor hosted a decently sized hall where a banquet was set out for all those that had traveled to The Tor. Elsewhere on the floor, and the two floors above, where rooms where the nobles and other esteemed visitors could spend the next couple weeks. All others were welcomed to set up... keep reading on reddit ➡
