Edit: Wow, thanks for the overwhelming responses AND awards! Honestly I only expected a few replies. It's gonna take me some time to read through everything. Thank you again!
I am 31, with a pleasant personality, good sense of humour, exercises regularly, dresses well, have proper social etiquette and in gist, an okay human being.
But I have never been in a relationship. I was overweight with low self esteem when I was young and extremely introverted, bordering on being socially anxious. I would get out of social situations by avoidance, lying, or even hiding. I always thought that I would never get a partner because I was unworthy.
When I started working in my early 20s, I gained some confidence and was able to present a better myself. I lost weight, started looking after my appearance and was able to face people/talk to them properly by taking little steps. I held onto hopes of finding someone suitable for me. Many asked why I was single and assured that I'll find someone soon.
However, the first guy that actually asked me out ended up telling me, "You'll look better if you lost weight." That absolutely crushed me back to my starting point and I pushed myself to exercise vigorously daily and eating a tiny diet to the point of losing my period, when I should have just said "Screw you if this is how you talk to girls." I pushed that deep down into my psyche and never really acknowledged how much it affected me, that I should never had let such words even hurt me. It hurt me because I didn't see myself as worthy, again.
Then, there were suitors that came up but some of them were too young/old. Some men were not looking for anything serious. Some men were just wasting my time (letting me wait 2-4 hours for one to turn up on multiple ocassion s, for example). I went overseas to work for a couple of years and met this guy that I liked but he also was not looking for a gf(he had one) but just wanted some snacking on the side. I was pretty affected by that again although nothing happened between us and it sent me into the "I'm not good enough because I'm not skinny" mentality again. Again, I ran from my emotions through running.
I started using dating apps when I got back to my home town and met plenty of men that I just did not feel anything for. I didn't just want to be with someone for the sake of trying out a relationship-I wanted a connection. Earlier this year, I met someone who seemed to be equally excited as me. He was enthusiastic about bringing... keep reading on reddit ➡
In interviews with Robert Bigelow and Eric Davis, we see a common theme of poltergeist phenomena being associated with the study of UAPs when an area like Skinwalker Ranch is in focus. Bigelow's most recently released interview goes into depth on this topic, and reveals that the intelligence present at Skinwalker ranch can manifest several different types of paranormal phenomena. The ranch itself has seen the sporadic appearances of classic UFO crafts, and associated with these have been poltergeist phenomena, creatures, cattle mutilations, intelligent communication with the researchers, and various manipulations of matter and light.
Let's look into the context and delve into what this actually means. There is the UFO phenomenon, which has been described by individuals associated with the military and government as being extraterrestrial and primarily seen in space or the oceans. Then there is paranormal phenomena, which is usually thought of as rare, sporadic, and interdimensional. Bigelow and Davis are confirming a link between the two, with the extraterrestrial intelligence being able to manipulate our perceptions on a multidimensional level. Bigelow strongly believes in an afterlife, but is choosing to associate the poltergeist phenomena with UFOs, indicating poltergeists aren't spirits after all and are instead the extraterrestrial intelligence fucking with us (or using this to experiment with us to see our reactions).
When Bigelow and Davis state that the extraterrestrial intelligence follows researchers home and makes their presence known in the form of poltergeist activity, this could mean it's a form of monitoring the researchers and intimidating them to "show who's boss".
Based on all available information and the appearance of UFO crafts during these encounters, we can surmise the phenomenon is extraterrestrial and can go into other dimensions as well. The reason I'm linking this to extraterrestrials is specifically because UFOs have been linked to the skies and underwater, in some instances being said to specifically come from space. If the crafts were entirely extradimensional we would see crafts manifest in people's livingrooms and houses, going through furniture and other things of that nature. Meaning being extradimensional they would be able to appear anywhere indoors, but what we are seeing are UFO crafts themselves appearing consistently outdoors which indicates they are more of an extraterrestrial craft phenomenon that has seeming... keep reading on reddit ➡
I already know that male infants are circumcised in the Jewish religion. I’m just curious if other cultures or religions practice the same, or if any cultures or religions expressly forbid it.
I was reading some Shin Megami Tensei Wiki and found out this a couple hours ago and I have a theory.
Demiurge is literally the God or facet of God in various mithologies that created the physical world without knowing there was more, a divine spark or soul, that existed in it. He, according to what I read, creates Adam Kadmon, the first human, but only in concept, this human has everything a human has, but it's incomplete as it lacks the soul only God knows it exists. Adam Kadmon ends up having a Soul only because the real God feels sorry about both Demiurge and Adam Kadmon and decides to imbue him with it.
You cab put your tinfoil hats now.
This makes sense to me in the story of Overlord as Demiurge is the only Guardian that doesn't fully respects the authority of Ainz/Momon. If we analize his interactions with Ainz, he cares more about protecting him, and keeping him from harm, than following him blindly.
We see this at the beginning of the story, as Ainz decides to go outside and even Albedo decides to respect his choice of "going alone" while Demiurge says that "respectfully, I can't allow that" and his way of view also shows when he is facing Shalltear he is well on his way to stop Aiz, but is only stopped by the other guardians even if not without much effort.
This makes me think, Demiurge isn't really a Guardian, he is a primordial being that precedes the Guardians, Ainz and all alive on the world and that is also on the know about the servers closing on Ygrassil and the future that implies.
I think Demiurge is indeed scared, because he knows there won't be any other "Supreme beings" or "Players" going his way, and he cant indeed, create then like he could other beings of that world.
I think that's the reason he brought this last time, a Lych. He knows older/Human/Elvish/Living races of players end up dying by natural causes.
Thats the reason a Lych was chosen. He just wants something... Or someone... That can survive for eternity.
I think Demiurge making comments like "Momon-sama CAN have children," is coming from a place of knowing and wishing.
I think Demiurge will show his true colors if he detects any sort of real danger against Aiz.
I downloaded some publicly available inscription data from my university, transformed it a bit and now I want to visualize it. The following code...
geom_segment(x = students_plot$men, xend = students_plot$women, y = c(seq(1:16)), yend = c(seq(1:16))) +
geom_point(aes(x = men, y = major, shape = degree), size = 3, color = "green2") +
geom_point(aes(x = women, y = major, shape = degree), size = 3, color = "deepskyblue3") +
labs(title = "Biggest Differences in Numbers of inscribed Men and Women by Major",
x = "Number of Students",
y = NULL) +
geom_text(aes(x = (men + women)/2,
y = c(1.25, 2.25, 3.25, 4.3, 5.3, 6.3, 7.3, 8.3, 9.25, 10.25, 11.25, 12.25, 13.25, 14.25, 15.25, 16.25),
label = diff)) +
facet_grid(majority~., scales = "free") +
...produces this plot:
As you can see, the lower part is the way I want it to be while in the upper part, it looks like R just kept the visuals from the one without the scales = "free" specification:
I could, of course, just stick it all in one plot without faceting and draw a line to make that distinction but this'd be a much better graphic if I can get it to work.
Also, not sure why but adding a legend doesn't work. I tried in several ways but it always only shows me the "degree"-legend, while a color legend (green: men, blue: women) would be important.
For some time, I have wanted to distill an abstract thought that's been churning in my head so that I can put it in front of an audience for critiques and/or concurrence. What follows is that attempt:
If you are reading this, there is a good chance that at some point in your life you have been told "You are really smart!" While that's always a nice thing to hear, it is quite a vague descriptor of a complex situation. For example, perhaps you heard this after solving a problem faster than anyone else, or maybe it was because you knew the answer to an obscure trivia question. Perhaps you've even heard it after a tough conversation with someone who was struggtling in which you gave them some solid advice.
In none of these scenarios is it objectively wrong to call a person "smart", but how is it that such a vast number of possible scenarios can be summed up by a singular word? Part of the answer of course lies in language itself and the accepted meanings of words, but I'd argue that something else is at play as well. We tend to identify and value the quality of "smart" in others, but if you asked 50 different people what the word "smart" means, you might get 50 different answers.
I would posit that the trait we refer to as "smart" is actually not a catch-all term for cleverness, intuition, or memorized facts. Instead, the quality we refer to as "smart" is an amalgamation of three distinct traits, present in all individuals in varying quantities. Some people exhibit more of one trait than another, whereas some strongly exhibit only one or two, and a rare group of "very smart" individuals exhibit all three to high degrees. These traits are:
Intelligence, which is almost totally inherent.
Knowledge, which is exclusively acquired.
Wisdom, which can only be earned.
Individuals can be intelligent without being knowledgeable or wise. They can be knowledgeable but not intelligent or wise, and so on. To elaborate:
Intelligence in this context is defined as problem solving ability and the application of logic. There is a large amount of research into what makes some people more intelligent than others, and the current consensus is that it's a mix of nature and nurture in the formative years. Nutrition is vital to intelligence, as are genetics and proper sleep habits, but even if all non-genetic factors were controlled for, some people would still have a higher "ceiling" of intelligence than others. This is a fact of life -... keep reading on reddit ➡
Has this ever been discussed or brought up? I was wondering if Greendude and his team, or even the PoD community has thought about adding Physical damage and Magic damage Rainbow Facet to the game and what everyone's thoughts are.
Fashion and clothes were always for me a second though. Clothes were needed to protect myself from the weather but I never associated myself with them. I did on occassion have a good feeling when wearing something nice, felt like I could express myself more in that time but it was always a fleeting sensation.
Lately though it seems like some clothes speak to me more than others. I will actually take some time to look at different items to see what speaks to me. It is as if my inner self wants to find a shell that projects itself into the external world?
This leaves me wondering if it's my ego who is trying to assert itself in some way. At the same time though, I really doesn't feel like I want to do this for others to judge me. It instead feels like I want to express myself without any after thoughts...
This is confusing to me, any thoughts?
Hello, i made a homemade flat lap with 6" wheels. It goes at 3450 rpm and i take my cabs through a 150 disc, 360 disc, and a 1000 disc. I keep getting small facets on my finished pieces. Am i moving the dop too fast? Too slow? Is my machine too fast? Any help would be appreciated
I’ve made the decision after this past season to retire our C9 incandescent bulbs 😩 As much as we love them and the nostalgia we’re going to make the switch to commercial grade LED bulbs this season.
Questions: What are pros and cons between a faceted and smooth C9 bulb? What’s been your experience if you made the switch?
Hi, I’m working on making a new alien god. This god represents love, but more important, the 8 facets of love that’s shown in Ancient Greek text.
You know the ones like Agape, Mania, Philia, those types of things. But I’m having a hard time coming up with a name for it? I don’t want to say “Love” because then everyone would assume romance, which is a facet as well, but not the only thing that this god represents.
Like this god, (I already have the concept that the god does exist, but nobody can see them, but they know they’re there) And it encompasses things like someone caring for homeless individuals? It’s not love, but you feel the need to help them, and at the same time they are great full for the help?
Or like when you feed a pet, the pet can’t express love, but it knows that you will be there to provide and protect them?
If anyone can help me manifest these feelings or what I’m trying to say, that would really help me to get a feel of what I should do with this god.
