A math teacher welcomed a new French exchange student into her class and then started teaching a lesson on fractions.

The French exchange student raised his hand and said, "Excuse me Madam, but I don't know how to say fractions. How do you say those?"

"Easy," said the teacher, "you just say the top number and then the bottom number is read as an ordinal number. For example, 2/3 is 'two-thirds', 3/4 is 'three-fourths', and 2/5 is 'two-fifths'."

"Thanks, I understand, "said the exchange student.

"Good," said the teacher, and then asked the student, "so how do you say 4/8?"

"Should I reduce?" asked the boy.

"That would be best," said the teacher.

"One-second," said the boy.

"Take as long as you need," said the teacher.

As more and more people are restricted from their right to trade in by the likes of Robinhood and other platforms, I am here to propose my solution. A Decentralized Stock Exchange Discussion

A year ago I start production of creating a decentralized stock exchange that would allow people to trade without the median party interfering. I got pretty far in the project but I had to table it to focus on other businesses. But Since now is a better time than any to introduce this, I will offer both the video explaining how it works and the foundational code of this project to hopefully build something for the people. I hope that this can be a community collaboration with this fellow community of developers to weigh in on how they wish this project to progress! If this gets a lot of support we can turn it into a foundation where the people contribute.

The Code: https://github.com/tycooperaow/stock-dex

The Explainer Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcR-eGkItE0

My Documented Journey before I tabled it: https://twitter.com/tycooperaow/status/1210734095447117824

Mockup: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ENZucp4XYAAgjHk?format=jpg&name=large

Let's make our own exchange - Stonks App

Stonks App Logo

Over the past few days, we have seen that no one is on the retail investor's side. News anchors shit on us and exchanges are against us. They restrict our buying power, ability to trade and access to our portfolios. I know this seems far fetched but we need to do something to protect us and the retail traders.

There are over 3 million of us and while we have a bad rep we actually have something that the hedge funds don't have. A huge talent and skilled resources. Within these 3mil members, we have lawyers, financial experts, professionals, and IT specialists. Here is why this is great and why I have this stupid idea. But it could work.

I think we should create our own exchange app. Why? We know who we are against and how we can get the retail traders to join our app. We will get massive attention and users within the first few days. Think of this as our own Robinhood but with high chances of immediate success. We are a community and we have the user base already. We can set new download and user base records. Now that we also have media attention this is free advertising all day every day.

What should we do? Well, I have a grand idea explained below. But I guess what we would need is a couple of talented UI and programming enthusiasts/experts who are in for the cause. Perhaps a couple of in-house lawyers and advisors when it would come to launch it. You see the reward for such contribution would be a part of the entity - made by us and owned by us.

So here are the features.

GME Trading - Best example of why we need Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs)

If during this whole process of /r/WallStreetBets attacking institutional short-selling assholes is not the best case for for decentralized exchanges (DEX’s) idk what is. The market making platforms literally halt trading on reddit stocks like GME, AMC, and BB multiple times during the trading session making it so you cannot trade the way you want. This usually happens when the short sellers trigger a huge sell off, and you bet your ass they have a mainline that’s directly plugged into the NYSE that is going to let them get out of their short positions faster than you can put your buy positions through so that they can mitigate their losses. Now we also have all these different banking platforms putting restrictions on your ability to buy and sell these stocks, the highest volume stocks ever, while having multiple platforms also crash or become unusable without them having to take any responsibility whatsoever (even though they seem to love taking those transaction fees). Nothing about this whole thing is transparent. DEX’s are coming, and while in their current form they are not there yet they will be especially when we add layer 2 solutions or get into phase 2. I can’t fucking wait. Ethereum is currently the best poised to take advantage of all of that and together we will have a different way of trading

Edit: even worst than we thought. Robinhood + all citadel supplied brokers can only sell, not buy. Blatant market manipulation

If Gambling is illegal then shouldn't investing in Stock Exchanges be illegal as well?

Investing in stocks means you are betting based on some assumptions hoping that the stock you purchase will go up in value. Since a stock can go up in value as more and more people buy it with the same hope of increasing its value even if there is no actual value in the company when compared to its stock value. This can sometimes mean that the stock price and the actual company value does not have a directly proportional relation.Doesn't this mean that someone with enough resources actually drives up the stock prices of a company by buying out more and more stocks and then driving unknowing users thinking the actual stocks as legitimate starts investing on it and then that someone sells all their shares, can make money out of nowhere?

Doesn't this happen often like when Zoom's stock prices were going up and then another stock with a similar name also had it's stock prices go up as users confused this for the original company? And the recent Gamestop stock prices going up ? Wouldn't the stock prices go down ultimately if the company does not perform well eventually and people who invested now will be losing money?

TL;DR: In short if the prospect of a company making profit can drive their stock prices up (keeping in mind that this can be manipulated) , isn't investing in Stock Exchange essentially gambling/betting and hence shouldn't it be illegal ?

Edit: I am from India. Gambling is illegal here in India.
