YSK Biodegradable plastics can still pollute the environment.

In order for biodegradable plastics (which are different from Bioplastics) to decompose properly they need to be disposed of in a special way:

> This typically involves temperatures of over 50Β°C and the right combination of moisture, air and microbes – meaning that these plastics won’t break down if left in the ocean or on domestic compost heaps.

https://www.sciencefocus.com/science/what-does-biodegradable-plastic-degrade-into/

Why YSK? You should make sure when you dispose of Biodegradable plastics that they are being disposed of properly, just putting them in the trash is a bad idea.

This is what idpol does. Democrats are creating an environment where Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate have to compete against each other for media attention. Racial groups are being formed and set against each other in a """"fight for survival"""" by a party that brands itself anti-racist

Democrats have a lot of identity groups to satisfy. Gender is one thing with all the various sexual groups (which are somehow political groups as well, idk) but now there is also Race and honestly BLM could only be the start of it. Stop Asian Hate is the newest one, and more are gonna be created because Democrats and leftist college activists seem to love doing it. And all of these identity groups have to fight for attention from the Democratic Party to feel heckin' valid.

Will it ever stop?

Candidate: If you don't provide a flexible working environment post pandemic I'm not working for you. Companies: *surprised Pikachu*

My company has had major financial troubles since the pandemic began. So I've slowly been looking for work over the past few months. My wife works too and we live well below our means and have a lot in savings so there's no rush.

What I've encountered is a lot of misleading job postings and/or offers regarding working remote vs. in office post pandemic. For example:

  • Posts labeled as remote then in the description "remote until after covid". Bait and switch nonsense.

  • Companies already back in the office for months, well before vaccines. 5 days a week in the office was expected even though they did well with people working remotely.

  • Companies offering flex between in office and remote during the initial interviews, but backpedal as you interview further

  • One company who said "your entire team has to determine whether or not you can work from home that day". Yeah, because I want a committee to decide whether or not I can leave my wife home alone with a strange contractor who is working on the house that day. Fuck that.

So some of these places I bailed early, and others I bailed after I got an offer and got the real truth in the final interviews. Their reaction was always the same, total shock that I would remove myself from contention or turn down an offer because I was unable to choose my working environment. Some even reached out to me twice and sent me surveys asking what happened (I never respond to these, they know already).

Full disclosure, I just want flexibility to determine whether or not I want to be in the office that day, or remote, or full remote. Trust is an important part of any relationship, and right away if I don't have that trust from an employer than our relationship is already off to a bad start. I don't want to be treated like a baby and/or lied to.

Also there is a massive financial cost to consider with owning an extra vehicle/gas/wear and tear/and above all time when commuting. That is a huge financial factor that I just can't gloss over as a candidate.

So yeah, talented candidates are going to shop around for flexibility in the future and companies will either have to adapt or get left behind. Remote flexibility is not only the future, but the present in tech.

What do you think is the future of employees who demand flexibility like this? Have you turned down offers due to remote or lack thereof?

Why do people put 20% Down on a home in a low interest rate environment?

If you are able to get a 30 year mortgage with an interest rate of 3%, why do people put down 20%? I understand you have to pay PMI but that's usually around 1% per year. The stock market over time returns 7% per year, so if you can borrow money at 4% (3% mortgage+1% PMI), why would you put down 20%?

I understand that some people feel more comfortable with a lower housing payment, but if this is the case then you probably can't afford the house to begin with. It just doesn't make sense to tie up so much of your $ into an asset that returns close to inflation.

In addition, if you put all of your savings into a 20% down payment then you now have a higher risk of exposure in case of job loss/etc. when all of your money is tied up into a mortgage.

Am I missing something here?

I'm looking to hire 12-15 people, good paying job in a great work environment (Hull St and Courthouse)

Hey everyone, I posted this a few days ago in r/RVAJOBS, but that place does not get a lot of traffic. Posting again here, hopefully that's ok. Mods feel free to delete if not.

I run a Tommy’s Express Car Wash. We are opening a new location in mid-June on Courthouse and Hull St. We are looking to hire our crew ASAP to get everyone trained up and ready to go. Our team members average $14-$22/hour consistently (based on our $12/hr base pay, plus bonuses paid weekly). I want to stress that this is actual, consistent income. This is not β€œyou COULD make up to…” BS that a lot of places try to lure you in with. The ownership team of this franchise is super forward-thinking; our idea is to hire the best people, pay them well, and keep them for a long time. I come from the restaurant world, so working for a place that doesn’t view its team as disposable is a breath of fresh air.

Since most people have never worked in a car wash, I’ll give a brief rundown. We focus on two things: guest service, and cleanliness. The job is dynamic; you never get stuck doing one thing all day. We rotate positions hourly throughout the day. Some time is spent on the register, other times we are cleaning equipment, and other times we are outside interacting with the guests. Because of this, the time flies by. There is some bending/lifting/general physical components to the job, but nothing that I would consider physically challenging.

Shifts are typically 8 hours long, with either a 10 minute paid break or 30 minute unpaid break. The earliest shifts start at 6:30am, and the closing shifts are over no later than 9:00pm. We offer tuition assistance after 6 months of employment (as long as certain GPA requirements are met and you are still in good standing with the company). We offer a $500 referral bonus as well (you refer someone, as long as you are both with us after 60 days, and in good standing with the company, we pay you $500). We are open 363 days/yr (closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas). We DO NOT close for inclement weather. The reason for this is twofold. First, our club members pay for unlimited washes, and we want to honor that, rain or shine. Second, we do not want our team’s income to be determined by factors beyond their control. No one is called off just because it is raining. There is always more cleaning and maintenance to be done, and we use those slow days to catch up. If you are a full time employee and want 40 hours per week, you will get 40 hours per week!

Making the Environment Deadly Again

So we all know the rules on extreme cold and heat from the DMG. I find this is okay but not great. So let's expand upon it.

So let's start with heat. My players are currently in a volcano so I've worked on these, and it doesn't have other outside sources to pull from like Icewind Dale.

So let's start by splitting "heat" into multiple categories that correspond to temperature but are easier to implement than having to determine the temperature of each location. To keep it simple I'll say only two although you might break this down further if you desired. Let's just say Harsh Heat and Extreme Heat.

So while in Harsh Heat they make Con Saves every hour they don't have water against exhaustion beginning at DC 5 and increasing by 5 for every hour they don't have water. They require twice the daily amount of water, as do their mounts and beasts of burden except for camels and other creatures native to desert environs.

Now for the fun one: Extreme Heat.

While in Extreme Heat every hour they must make a DC 10 Constitution Save against exhaustion regardless of if they have water or not. This increases by 5 every hour they don't have water. They require triple the amount water as normal and water that isn't within a closed container evaporates after 1 minute.

I'm not gonna bore you with the science and math of water's phase changes because it's fairly complicated but suffice to say that when in a volcano all water in an open container will evaporate in under a minute when under typical atmospheric pressure. Magma is roughly 1/5th the temperature of the surface of the sun.

When long resting in Extreme Heat they must make a DC 15 Con Save against exhaustion.

Creatures with resistance to fire make their Con Saves against Extreme Heat at advantage and ignore saves against Desert Heat. Creatures with immunity to fire are immune to the effects of Heat. Creatures wearing metal armour or who are made predominantly of metal have disadvantage on the save.

This incentives players to bring methods of cooling their rest location, such as Tiny Hut, or leaving to come back another day. Don't punish players for circumventing the Rest Exhaustion with Tiny Hut. A 3rd level spell at level 5 makes needing to save that slot for survival a massive expenditure of resources.

For the Cold we'll split into Harsh and Extreme Cold as well.

In Harsh Cold they make Con Saves against Hypothermia each hour starting at DC 10 and increasing by 5 each hour.

Hypothermia (which we're co

AITA for telling my cousin to leave after she saw my plastic straw stockpile and accused me of "destroying the environment"?

I (20f) have neuromuscular disabilities. I cannot drink things without a straw/lid. I need a lid so I don't spill, a straw because I cannot lift drinks to my mouth and have difficulty getting liquid to the back of my mouth to swallow. Straws alleviate this problem.

Plastic straws are necessary because biodegradable/paper ones break apart easily, silicone is not flexible enough, metal straws get hot/cold too easily and are inflexible - which hurts my mouth and makes it impossible to swallow.

My city is currently laying out plans to ban plastic straws, and it has already been implemented in some areas. I am currently stockpiling. My cousin came around to drop something off a few days ago, and found my stockpile when she opened a cupboard. She immediately goes on about how "plastic straws are convenient, but you're destroying the environment", "Just get reusable straws" etc. She's super passionate about the environment, if you can't tell.

I tell her to leave, and she drove off really upset. My mum comes home later, and I tell her what happened. Mum is upset that I told her to leave, because my aunt apparently got angry at my mum for me being rude, and that I probably should have explained to her why I need straws instead. That the majority of people who support straw bans don't realise that single use straws are usually the only way that people with certain disabilities can get hydration safely. I needed to educate her, according to mum.

Every single day a new species is driven closer to extinction by the abusive and unsustainable use of natural resources. Official reports of the UN state that about 1 million animal species are now threatened by extinction and about 40% of all mammal, as well as amphibian species, already went extinct within the last decade. The majority of humanity claims that we have lost our way. I ask you all, are you ready to prove them wrong, prove that we are still in it for the good and the just cause that kept this world alive for so long? This is where our Token comes into play, we donate 2% of the weekly transaction tax to charities that preserve biodiversity like land reclamation projects, wildlife sanctuaries, sustainable fishing projects and many more. These projects will preserve endangered species by allowing them to eventually return to their natural habitats where they can sustain and possibly even grow their population.
