The Whirler is a small poof of cloud, spawning at high altitudes. They are small, spinny, and very cute!
Whirlers cannot be harmed, instead dissapearing into a puff of cloud when hit. They only spawn around cloud heights, and dislike getting too low or high. They float around, hovering slightly up and down. They are also relatively rare, spawning about as commonly as Spiders at night time. They also only spawn when the player is at y=90 or above.
Now, for a use - their spinning! When somebody with an Elytra flies around these little guys, they'll try and get underneath the person, then SPIN!
This spinning sends cloud particles up into the air, similar to a bubble column. It lasts for a few seconds, and when the player goes above a spinning Whirler, they get pushed up 10 blocks or so. A cute little boost for players flying with Elytras. This is really nice if you can get boosted by a few Whirlers in a row.
There are a few easter eggs, too!
The player will get the advancement, "Head in the Clouds", when they are boosted by a Whirler.
If one were to name a Whirler "Rainy", they'd get a darker color, and spew rain particles from their underside. A little rain cloud!
It's hard to do, but you CAN catch a few of these guys as pets, or something. They're lured by Phantom Membranes (their favorite food!), but will immediately try to float up if they go below y=90. You'll want your base in the mountains if you want some of these guys!
They are adorable babies, and I love them. What do you think?
Pretty simple, just use the fly animation and have the parrot follow you when you are using elytra to make transporting them easier.
Edit from comments: Parrots could showcase a “swooping” animation when they are flying at top speeds, which has the added benefit of making jungle biomes more lively than before.
To simplify put it, this would make it so that you can dye elytra into different colors, and even make special pattern when combine with other items.
Patterns: Since you can imagen the base dye colors ill just list the unique ones.
Phantom Wings-Combine blue dye with a phantom membrane to make the elytra appear as their wings. They would also make those particles from their wings when you fly. You can also make the "Red Phantom" wings by using red dye instead of blue.
Dragon Wings: To make dragon wing elytra you will need black dye and a dragons head. When worn they would appear as the ender dragons wings and would flap when flying. It would also increase the elytra's durability by 50%.
Vex Wings: To make vex wings you will need soul sand and grey dye. When worn they would appear as the wings on the vex. When you are invisible you would be able to pass through one block walls with the wings on.
Wither Wings: To make wither wings you will need a wither skull, a bone, black dye and soul sand. When worn they would appear as black bone wings with soul fire in between the wings fingers. When flying they would also make the soul speed particles.
Chicken Wings: These would appear as the wings on the chicken, same size as they are on the chicken, they would also give you slow falling at the cost of durability.
Elytra Enchanting is pretty boring since only 2 enchantments can be applied, i think (Unbreaking and Mending). So some new enchantments could make it more interesting. And if those special Enchantments can only be found as books in End cities, that would give players a point to explore the End further.
My Ideas (Leave yours in the comments):
- Turbine I: This Enchantment lets the player glide underwater like in the air. A good Idea would be that this would be some kind of underwater temple loot, encouraging the player to find them.
- Glide I to III: This Enchantment just increases the speed cap for the Elytra, so multiple Rockets would get the player to greater Speeds.
- Razorwing I to V: If you fly into a entity, it deals damage depending on the speed and level of the enchant.
Leave your suggestions in the comments!
When using an elytra, the player's attack damage should be multiplied based on how fast they are flying.
It's extremely difficult and risky to land melee hits while flying at high speeds, and following through with consecutive attacks is impossible. Instead, you have to resort to a form of hit-and-run tactics involving carefully angled dives, but it usually takes two or more of these to kill most mobs, and players can easily heal back up or create a shelter by the time you can line up for a second attack.
I am suggesting this because I would like to see more interesting interactions in pvp and pve involving the elytra, and would like to encourage a wider variety of viable strategies in combat.
I started my journey on 2b after watching a Sal video about the Nether Roof, and said “wow! That’s pretty neat” I’ll go check it out for myself.
Fast forward to now, I found some stuff such as shulkers full of totems and Golden Apples, and what I really want to do on the server is explore the history on the server. And I wasn’t really getting anywhere(fast) exploring on foot, so I said I was gonna get an Elytra. So I remove my bed and go back to spawn. Boy was that a mistake, not only did I strike out, but was trapped there. Eventually I made myself a boat, and decided to try to get one in the end. I boated the ice highways, until a server kickback occurred at 46k, and found myself falling into the void, to my certain death. Back to spawn I went.
At this point I was thinking the benefits of playing the server were far less than the negatives. However today, I decided I’d give it one more go. So I geared up, got another boat, and went back to the end. I’m still traveling at this point, so I don’t know the outcome.
The point I’m going at here, is how in the world do you get an Elytra? All end cities seem to be raided, building bridges across end islands is a feat on its own with the server lag; and, dupe stashes are not exactly easy to find, and heavily based on luck.
I’m not into the whole cancer culture thing, but I figured I minus well ask: how did YOU get your Elytra? I’ve seen chat, and hopefully reddit will have some more mature users, but I’m not holding my breath.
Currently the hitbox for someone flying with an elytra is less than one block. Combine this with the elytra's fast speed and it is nearly impossible to hit someone flying with elytra.
My solution is to used the inflated hitboxes from the new combat test snapshots and make the hitbox somewhere around 2x2x2. This would make it so we can have proper elytra dogfights and still be able to fly through one block holes.
Today my elytra broke while i was flying above a lava lake in the nether and i lost a lot of stuff and i think this would prevent that from happening to any other minecraft player.
I have some ideas for changing how your elytra looks and also changing how it works. These are made by surrounding an elytra with a certain item in crafting grid.
Phantom elytra: Looks like phantom wings and made with membrane. Makes you fly slowly but you can stay in the air for a lot longer and do fast dives like the phantom mob. Made with phantom membranes.
Feathered elytra: Made with feathers. Looks like white bird wings and will give make you fall slowly and you glide better. Rocket boosts are not as powerful though.
Dragon elytra: Looks like dragon/ender dragon wings and could be made from a new item called dragon scales dropped from a new dragon or the ender dragon. Gives armor but only provides chainmail level protection to keep it balanced.
Rocket elytra: looks like jetpack and made with fire charge or rockets. not good at basic flying and gliding but rocket boosts are a lot more powerful.
Bat elytra: made from possible new bat drop, looks like bat wings, makes you go super fast but you have less control like minecraft bats.
