I discovered the EFF through their interventions at Defcon, and I'm quite impressed by the quality of their speakers and aligned with most of their views.
To summarize their point of view: "The leading nonprofit defending digital privacy, free speech, and innovation for 30 years and counting!" (it was hard for me to summarize, I had to copy-paste their slogan ^^).
But, it's a very us-oriented organization, so, I'm looking for European or French ones which would have the same goals. The ones I find are very generic, hence their intervention on tech-related subjects is... well... not so convincing.
The characteristics should be one or more of:
P.S. Sorry if it's not the right place, but when I'm posting on r/TheRegionIAmIn subs I get instant-moderated for BS reasons, you are kindof my last resort XD
FUPM is dedicated to defending digital privacy, free speech, and innovation by proudly supporting the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). 5% of all pool profits taken by FUPM will be donated to the EFF in the name of stake pool delegators.
FUPM is run by an international team of bespectacled dorks with over 50 years of combined experience in the fields of systems design, engineering, and information technology. One dude even has a PhD in Engineering Sciences, so you know they geek-out hardcore and probably don’t have girlfriends.
With barebones nix installs and load-balanced, cloud-based servers, our expertly-configured nodes insure uptime, reliability and performance, so that blocks will be pwnd, and massive gains of bigly proportions will be had for everyone contributing to the pool.
For those who have money left in your 2020 budget, consider donating or becoming a member of some of these organizations supporting software freedom and other technology-freedom issues:
The Deeplinks Blogs by EFF are some of the greatest reads online about online privacy, but there are a HUGE number of them. I became interested in privacy recently, so can't visit the best articles published by them in the previous years.
UPDATE 2:15pm: The cats that run the Internet need our attention, so we have to get back to work. Thanks for joining us and for all the great questions! Sign up for our EFFector newsletter to stay in touch with us and to know more about our work: https://www.eff.org/effector
We are lawyers, activists, technologists and lobbyists at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world. We champion user privacy, free expression, and innovation through impact litigation, policy analysis, grassroots activism, and technology development. We work to ensure that rights and freedoms are enhanced and protected as our use of technology grows.
But recently, Members of Congress have mounted a major threat to your freedom of speech and privacy online. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) recently introduced a bill that would undermine key protections for Internet speech in U.S. law. It would also expose providers of the private messaging services we all rely on to serious legal risk, potentially forcing them to undermine their tools’ security.
Join us to discuss the ways that the EARN IT Act would be a disaster for Internet users’ free speech and security. Ask us anything about the EARN IT Act, CDA 230, or encryption. We will be answering your questions starting at 1 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
