**Rhythm of War Spoilers
So I am super new to this. Long time follower first time commenting but I can't help it with the the cool new stuff. If I lived there in Roshar I don't care who it would upset I would absolutely be an artifabrian. So two huge questions
I know we may not know yet so maybe some cool ideas but if any one has heard anything from WoB I would love to hear.
Does it work like F-Tin? What you Store depends on your Intent? Relationships in one metal and language in another.
It’s said that when you Store Connection your friendships and others trust in you is reduced, but what if your Connection to someone IS that they distrust and hate you? Do they like you more if you Store Connection? Can you Store individual Connections from specific people or is it more broad?
I’m very curious if it can be used like conjoined fabrials, creating a device that Connects Steelpushing and Ironpulling.
What effect do people think this would have on fabrials?
Huge amplification of effect, followed by the gem stone breaking?
Like is that just very specific knowledge she researched herself, or do all Japanese scholars know what B-29s are made of and that they reflect light differently?
(Does... This belong on this sub?)
Random thought, but couldn’t Mistborn use a duralumin- enhanced riot to give someone a heart attack? Surely, if they pushed hard enough on someones fear they could literally insta kill them from far away? Would be an awesome assassination technique.
So we've learned that things created from aluminum cannot be affected by allomancy. They cant be pushed and someone wearing an aluminum hat cant be affected by emotional allomancy. What about duralumin? Is it especially susceptible to allomancy? If a coinshot pushed on a coin made of Duralumin, would it be pushed with extreme force instead of the normal amount? Would a duralumin hat make one especially susceptible to emotional allomancy? I feel like there are a lot of potential applications here. You could embed a Duralumin plate into the tops of streetlights to make an extreme high speed travel lane for coinshots and lurchers. Therapy patients could wear Duralumin hats so that emotional allomancers could more easily affect their emotions. Have we gotten an official answer to this?
Had a thought while listening to an episode of The Worldhopper's Guide to the Cosmere
Theoretically a duralumin spike steals a person's identity. So working off that thought would a person then be able to place that spike in another body? Some possible examples might include:
Any thoughts as to what this might mean or if it's even possible?
So if Aluminum mainly deals with purifying your self of spiritual realm shenanigans, then Duralumin must enhance them.
An Aluminum Gnat (Misting) could probably resist or recover from the following: Soothing/Rioting, Shade attacks, non fatal shardblade attacks, Gravitation Surge, Friction surge, Soulcasting, Soulforging, Bloodsealing, effects of Hemalurgy. Pushes and pulls on metal inside their body.
In contrast Duralumin should enhance all those effects plus all the positive effects like stormlight healing, silverdust to heal from shade attacks, Bio Chromatic Breath heightenings, enhance Hemalurgy,
I welcome all thoughts and criticism.
If you were a duralumin misting, you would be useless on Sel. However, could you use your duralumin powers to boost say surgebinding? There have got to be some WoBs on this
We know you can change things slightly with soulstamps if it aligns with their spiritual self, which also relies on their cognitive view of themselves. So if someone managed to convince a misting that they were an aluminum or duralumin gnat even if they were another misting, then they were soul stamped to actually have those abilities, would they gain them? P.S sorry for bad English
So I've been thinking, I know ive seen somewhere that Brando Sando has said that there are ways to use hemalurgy without killing the person you're taking power from.
So I thought hard about this because mostly I feel bad for Duralumin gnats. And especially with allomancy, feruchemy and hemalurgy becoming more mechanical and capitalistic in nature. What if they discover a way to transfer powers without killing the base person. By making use of the bind points and possibly stealing small portions of the power.
Therefore in the day of capitalism and mechanical uses of the magic systems I was thinking duralumin gnats could sell their power out to people for a high price in long needled syringes filled the needles being the hemalurgic spike and the syringe being filled with the duralumin solution. Essentially being a super boost for an allomancer. A tad dramatic but honestly I think it's fun.
Anyways what do you guys think?
Trying a DIY restoration.
Say a mistborn has a single atom of duralumin in their reserves (obviously as duralimin is an alloy and not an element there is no such thing as an alloy of duralumin but the point is that the amount of duralumin is miniscule) and the burn this 'atom' of duralumin while simultaneously burning another metal ( which they have huge reserves of) would they still burn out ALL the reserves of this second metal? Same question for aluminium. Would burning even a tiny amount of aluminum wipe out the entire reserves of an allomancer, no matter how large they are?
Let me know what you think would happen
Edit: this happened in the third book so it’s void
I just finished Well of Ascension, and this question has been stuck in my mind ever since Vin discovered the effects of Duralumin. I was hoping it would play a part in the finale, but obviously it didn’t. Do we ever find out?
Okay so I just figured out how to use duralumin (as a mistborn of course) in a really OP way.
So a duralumin works but super burning all your resurves of a metal you are burning
Also metal incased in another metal can't be burned and is therefore not part of a reserve
So if you make metal balls (small enough to swallow) made of layers of alternating metals then you could make repeated duralumin mega flares
Hopefully this is an interesting theory to think about
Have a good day
We know thar burning duralumin while burning another metal burns out the other metal. But what does flaring duralumin while burning another metal do?
So there are listings that have useable, but still rather useless powers like burning gold. What about duralumin? Would nothing happen to a misting who could only burn it, or would they have something else happen to them?
Do you think an Elantrian could use an unpaired duralumin(connection) metalmind to increase the power of their aons in on a shardworld other than Sel?
Would burning duralumin while tapping a feruchemical store have the same effect on the feruchemy as it does on allomancy?
Edit: I guess this applies for all other magic systems not just feruchemy. Thanks :)
DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! STORMLOAD OF CONJECTURE AHEAD! Hey all!
There was a thread a few weeks ago about how aluminum might interact with a shardblade, and I put forth the idea that it may have already been tried, since 1. They're aware of aluminum on Roshar, as it can only be Soulcast, and 2. Zahel has no idea what the shardguards are in the training area.
Now, my idea of why aluminum might not accurately protect against a Blade is because it basically doesn't exist in the Spiritual Realm. It's been described as an "Investiture Sink," so from what I'd assume, since it has no Investiture or perhaps even Identity (which makes sense; it would probably be easier to soulcast into something without Identity, as well as the fact that aluminum is what stores that Feruchemical attribute) or some kind of "anti-identity", it acts weird. So, a Blade might fizzle or act weird with aluminum, or it might not be able to cut it, but I feel like it wouldn't stop one. However, where aluminum has weird anti-investiture properties, we've seen duralumin exhibit the opposite, enhancing Investiture when allomantically burned. While they're aware of aluminum on Roshar, they may not be aware of duralumin. But yeah, that's all I have for now. Whaddya think, everybody?
So does duralumin increase the output of power from a metal when it burns or just give you the regular amount of power from the metal all at once? I’m wondering if a gold twin born enhanced with duralumin would be able to gain even more health by burning duralumin while burning his goldminds.
Spoiler! Can’t remember how to hide them... sorry To take it even further is that could be how a certain someone would have relatively quickly filled the bands of mourning
So, if a duralumin misting gets a bead of lerasium and burns it together with duralumin. Would he be a much stronger mistborn? or would that not work.
I'm re-listening to Misborn Era 1 and I just passed the part where Vin has her internal monologue about searching for aluminum's alloy. She mentions that Atium and Gold have alloys (where one is Malatium, although I'm not sure which she thinks that is an alloy of), and says that the alloys (plural) of those metals are not as useful.
Does she not care enough to look for the other alloy? I know they don't discover Electrum until HoA, so in this passage it seems odd that she is so dismissive of it's potential.
One could say that Gold is too rare to try and make an alloy out of, but the man who makes Duralumin for her mentions that Aluminum was also hard to get a hold of. You could also say that because Gold is so useless, it's alloy must be useless as well (according to Vin at the time), but Aluminum was also pretty useless on it's own. It seems out of character for Vin to ignore something like that. Any thoughts?
I’ve only ever read the official translations from the physical releases (i’ve never liked reading digital manga/comics), I noticed that while Yotsuba’s bear is named Juralumin, some of the fan translations, various media, and fans refer to the bear as Duralumin. Why is that? I can’t read Japanese, is it to do with the direct translation?
I just had a though about those poor Duralumin gnats after reading another thread about possible Era 3 or 4 Hemalurgy.
So assuming modern medicine, with some Southern Scadrial help, evolves enough that Spiking someone isn't fatal Duralumin gnats could sell their power to law enforcement or military.
I had a random thought on a possibility for Duralumin Compounding: Burning metal opens a channel of power from a Shard, to fuel the typical allomanctic effect. The Compounding "hack" works because the Allomancy provides an End-Positive conduit of Energy to power the End-Neutral circuitry of the Feruchemical Ability, letting the Feruchemist surpass the natural limits of an End-Neutral ability. Duralumin allows an Allomancer to surpass the normal limits on how much of a Channel they can open at a given time.
Soooo, say you have a very sad person that thinks they are useless but is actually a Duralumin Compounder. They swallow both an invested Duralumin metalmind and some amount of mundane durlumin. They Burn. The uninvested Duralumin acts as normal, forcing all the duralumin to Flair at once and theoretically opening the Maximum capacity power-channel possible. But since a lot of that Duralumin was an Invested Metalmind, that Super-flare gets channeled into the ferumchemical Connection ability.
Does that sound like it would work, mechanically?
What might that sort of massive Connection surge look like?
In alloy of law we discover that aluminium cannot be pushed or pulled, and some of its alloys are inert as well. Is duralumin also allomatically inert? It seems alumin can't be pushed because it eliminates metal reserves - but in duralumin's case it boosts them.
