Howdy Reddit, I'm the one and only Real Cat Lawyer. As many of y'all may know, I struggled to remove a cat filter during a court hearing on Feb 9th. I'm here because while I'm glad to provide the world a bit of joy, I'm hopeful we can help raise money for my niece's nonprofit, Firefly Fund, which funds and supports the research and education necessary to accelerate a cure for rare neurodegenerative genetic diseases that affect children and currently have no cure. Read more here.. The Firefly Fund is currently selling cat lawyer t-shirts through which all proceeds flow to their fund. You can find the t-shirt on the Real Cat Lawyer website by clicking on the Firefly Fund T-Shirt link.
Throughout the coming week we hope to do some giveaways through social media challenges. You can find us on all the socials here: https://linktr.ee/RealCatLawyer
I'm here live, I'm not a cat, and I'm prepared to go forward with this Reddit, fire away!

... keep reading on reddit β‘Our board of education just voted to remain online until the end of the school year. With that, the worst of our community is coming out. βYouβre just lazyβ β youβre just union pawnsβ βteachers arenβt specialβ β#f*ck(ourdistrict)teachersβ My favorite is βOther schools around the country are open!!β
Yeah and many of those teachers really wish they werenβt.
We are so fortunate to have leadership that cares for us, but man itβs hard when your community flips on you. Itβs ugly in our district right now, but at least we will get through this alive.
Tonight my whole school, and district, got emails about a Facebook post that was made. Apparently someone had used the public record request for teacher/support staff salaries. Along with this information the person received the teachers full names, phone numbers, addresses, full birthdays, and salary. This person then posted all of that information publicly on Facebook. Apparently the goal was for teachers to be able to be able to compare salaries, and when he saw all the other information attached decided to post it as a βlessonβ in how much information people can request.
Iβm so mad. I donβt think people realize how bad this is. Not just what the guy did but the rule in general. I have an active restraining order against someone. My husband has changed his name to hide from his βfatherβ. We intentionally donβt post stuff about our location or house or any of that stuff for a reason. This could seriously endanger people. Even get people killed.
Sorry for the dramatic rant, Iβm just so angry idk what to do.
ETA: this is a Florida school district
Update: a message was sent out that some people may qualify for exemption from the public record. These are people like ex-military/law enforcement, married to military/law enforcement, lawyers/former lawyers, judges, fighter fighters/ems, and those that worked for the Heath department, and a few other groups. So literally every government employee but not just teachers.
I saw it last night and it is for sure one of the best sci-fi movies I've seen in a while. The concept was of aliens landing in Johannesburg, SA and due to the negative reaction of the people there, they were put into segregation, also known as District 9. The movie was set at a time when District 10 was being created, and the aliens were being forcefully evicted from their homes. A weapons company was pretty much behind this, for "humanitarian reasons". In reality they were >!doing genetic experiments on the aliens, and trying to gain their weapons technology!< . I won't say too much because I don't want to spoil the movie, but it's free to watch on Crackle rn, definitely check it out if you haven't already.
If you have seen D9, what are your thoughts and do you think that it represents an accurate view of how we, as humans would treat aliens?
