When a bullet kills someone else, you know it’s been fired
I’m still disappointed.
Edit: I never realised Reddit had so many geologists. Also yes, quicksand! Hello Brollin!
In the process of getting a HELOC. Good credit, high income, ~45% equity in the house. Should be a no brainer.
Underwriter keeps kicking back my application because the gross income reported by my company is about $10K higher than my taxable income on my W2.
This is entirely because of pre-tax deductions for health insurance premiums and HSA contributions.
The keep getting hung up on this "discrepancy" and asking me if maybe I got a second W2 from my work that shows "the rest" of my income. I'm like "it's right there in Boxes 12c and 14 of my W2, don't you know how these things work? You're a **** bank for crying out loud."
As someone who grew up watching South Park, I like dark humor. So I decided to check out some the dark humor subreddits, and jesus christ, it's fucking awful. Full of memes that are just blatant transphobia and racism. The comments are worse. Anyone who tries to call out the bigotry will get called a "tranny" or "n*gger" lover. "If yOu'Re So Easily OfEndED, TheN LEavE PusSy!". Someones name was literally had the flair "n*gger hater". Every now and then, someone will post a dark meme thats actually funny and not some stupid racist shit, but the amount and bigotry I saw in those subbredits forced me to leave because I don't want a friend or a family member to think I'm some psycho neo-nazi. There is a difference between dark humor and hate speech.
Edit: grammar fix
Edit #2: I'm done replying to anything on this post because people aren't understanding what I'm trying to say. So let me say it loud enough for the people in the back. DARK HUMOR IS OKAY AND SOMETIMES REALLY FUNNY! BUT S... keep reading on reddit ➡

I’m 5’2, and my highest weight that I stayed at for a long time was 215. I got to 25, and realized I had never been in a relationship. I was too self conscious about my body, and no one really hit on me, anyway. I’d get things like “but you’re pretty regardless!” And that was such a weird feeling of “oh good, I’m glad I’m not ugly?” Mixed with “oh wow, there’s something really bad about me”. I was fat, but I knew myself, I was (mostly) comfortable, I was generally happy, I was sure of myself.
Then, I lost 100 pounds. I weigh between 115-120 now. What gets me is how differently I’m treated.
After 70 pounds lost, in one month I had gotten hit on more times that I’ve probably even interacted with a man in my life. I thought it was a fluke. At my job today, a guy came in who I recognized has been coming to our town for the past couple years on vacation. Incredibly cute, really nice and personable. When he used to come in, he didn’t really look at me twice, and I would think “if only I... keep reading on reddit ➡
Wondering if the difference is tangible, if for instance I am just playing alone by myself and don't neccessarily ~need~ the absolute best guitar
I haven’t been doing any shopping on “wants” and not “needs.” I would go into the mall when it opened thinking which card I would use and walked out without buying stuff. Because I realized I’m poor and broke af with 20k in debt to pay and that 19k credit limit ain’t gonna pay for it. Not sure if this is the right place for this. It’s my baby step of being debt free.
Edit: didn’t realize I used a throwaway. Not that it matters much.
Edit 2: to add more context, 13k out of 20k is a personal loan debt. There were major life events that I didn’t have enough money to cover.
But that doesn’t change the fact that I got my spending habit out of control after that. I’ve been pouring all my paychecks plus half my husbands’ into paying credit cards. At least $2k/month. Sometimes more when I have my quarterly bonus. So even though I’m at 7k Cc debt, I’ve also paid off a lot of it already. But I never realized I needed to have the above mentality to get rid of my debts entirely until recently... keep reading on reddit ➡
It’s easy to forget how good Chamberlain was and even easier to discredit his accomplishments because of the era in which he played. But make no mistake: Wilt Chamberlain belongs in the GOAT conversation. As a 13x All-Star, 7x Scoring Champ, 4x MVP, and 2x NBA Champion, he’s got a lot to show for his career. Over 15 seasons, he averaged 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds per game.
At his peak, he was so dominant that the NBA literally had to change the rules to slow him down — like the 1956 rule that prohibits players from crossing the plane of the free-throw line until the ball hits the rim or passes through the basket. Things like that were created because Wilt was so much stronger and faster than anyone else that they needed a way to slow him down.
In fact, according to Isiah Thomas, Wilt himself alluded to this fact in a chat with Jordan about being the GOAT.

I moved into a 1952 house last spring. During the inspection we found out that the attic had about an inch of compressed old double faced insulation.
Shortly after we moved in we had 5 Mitsubishi hyper heat split units installed. If we turned all of them on the house was comfortable and cool during hot sunny days.
But in the back of my mind I knew the lack of insulation in the attic was a serious issue- but summertime in the North East is not a time to be in an attic - you would die up there.
This past fall we hauled out all of the old insulation and spent a lot of time air sealing the entire attic. There were an unbelievable amount of air leaks. I then blew in 20 inches of cellulose, Which is equivalent to R-60. This past winter the house was very comfortable.
Right now it’s 93 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Last year on hot days like this I could feel the ceilings radiating heat inside in our upstairs bedrooms. I went out and bought a laser thermometer and the highest... keep reading on reddit ➡
North Koreans can’t tell if their leader is seriously dead. Americans can’t tell if their leader is dead serious.
Hello. I've been organizing my coworkers in union activity in an effort to get safer working conditions (and maybe higher pay) when we, a retail business, reopen after COVID-19. We don't feel like our safety concerns were taken seriously or that they were willing to budge on some important parts of our requests. This business is a small chain with a corporate structure above us. Our demands were sent to the higher ups after our boss freaked, and I don't think enough was done and neither do any of my coworkers who have participated. We were told that they "are aware of [our demands] and will address them when the time is right." After our demands they very suddenly decided that they are going to reopen this Saturday, the 30th. Without discussing doing more about worker safety concerns than the half assed nasty email that was sent. About half of the staff at this store has an underlying health condition, and imo, they have offered the bare minimum if that.
I have educated myself and... keep reading on reddit ➡
Back in high school, I worked for a fast food place. Not to name names, but I worked for the US east coast equivalent of the place that had a smiley yellow star as the logo.
At the time I was there, we had a deal on the apple pie turnover things (we always just called them pies). Regular price for one was $0.99 and the deal was 2 for $1.00. Someone way above my pay grade in the company made a rule that we were to automatically do the deal whenever someone ordered pies and then gush to the customer that they essentially got one pie free.
Cue the Karen.
I had just finished the lunch rush and was taking care of the last few stragglers when she came up. All she ordered was a pie. Per the rule, I rang up the deal.
As soon as the little price screen flashed "2 apple - $1", she lost her mind.
Karen: excUSE ME!! I SAID A PIE!
Me: Well, ma'am, we have a deal where you get 2 for a dollar and since--
Karen: NO! NO NO NO! I SAID ONE! YOU ARE TRYING TO STEAL FROM ME!!
Me: Not at all, ma'am.... keep reading on reddit ➡
