Petrol Engine v Diesel Engine

I understand that the compression ratio of the diesel engine is higher than the petrol engine and this is mainly because the auto ignition of diesel is lower and no spark plugs are required. However people still talk about how tough it is to maintain and service a diesel engine. Since the wear is mainly due to the higher compression ratio, wouldn't it make sense to reduce the compression ratio and add a spark plug to the diesel engine?

Caterpillar 3412 Diesel Engine Maximum Combustion Temperature

I'm trying to do a school project analyzing the Diesel Cycle of the Caterpillar 3412 Diesel Engine but I can't seem to find the max temperature or cutoff ratio of the engine based off publicly available data on the engine.

Would anyone happen to know the maximum temperature / cutoff ratio in the T-S diagram (T3) of the Diesel Engine?

Thanks in advance :)))

Diesel Engines running Natural Gas?? Anyone else?

Just found this sub! I'm a fairly new Diesel Mechanic and love the trade, (yes I'm that new) but I have almost no experience with diesel engines!

I work on a fleet and probably 90% of it is Natural Gas. Most of our engines are Cummins ISX12's or ISL9's and being located in the frozen north it's obvious they didn't spec them for cold.

The pistons also don't like the higher heat of CNG (compressed natural gas) and we've had most of our fleet swapped from Aluminum to Steel. You tend to lose compression when your pistons have holes blown in them...

It's weird having to remember that our few diesel trucks don't need sparkplug changes, or that (for the most part) unlike CNG diesel isn't looking to fucking kill you any chance it gets. Haha.

Anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this post. I thought it was cool to find a diesel sub and just wanted to see if anyone else deals with CNG/Diesel engines, since there isn't a sub for that.

Would love to hear some of your headache stories! XD

I don't understand this bit. I know it's a detail, but it upsets me because it would've been a very easy change so it must be intentional.

A diesel engine wouldn't work in space, cause it requires air, and an electric vehicle would be extremely easy, just one sound effect change in the sequence.

Just picked up my first diesel engine vehicle

It's not what I normally prefer, or work on, but it was the right price. Just picked up a 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 Bluetec. It has just over 87,000 miles on it. I've never owned a Mercedes Benz before and actually never had the desire to. I still prefer the torque of a Powerstroke or Duramax, but this thing rides so nice. I've actually gained a little respect for the people that own these things.

Check Engine Light on, No Errors, Sounds Like a Diesel in Idle

The Check Engine light of my 2005 S60 5T came on yesterday. Today I went to AutoZone to check for errors, but nothing was shown. Now it sounds like a Diesel in Idle.

Update:

Went to my favorite shop and got codes!

ECM-6140 -- Camshaft control exhaust -- Slow

ECM-611B -- Camshaft control, intake. Faulty

Repair shop says that the gears the timing belt runs over are wearing out. Sounds serious.

Is it?

Why is it bad to put diesel in a petrol engine or vice versa if they both work on combustion?

Like if you fuck up and put petrol in a Diesel engine, you’re suppose to not move the vehicle and drain the tank but, I don’t understand why it’s bad if both are fuels and they both combust.

PS: maybe the answer is really simple and I’m stupid

Could someone explain diesel engines in this pack?

I looked at other posts and some people said that the best power gen for IV is the diesel engine, but I don't really understand how it works. Most of my power comes from nitro diesel already, but I need way more of it even just for the IV assemling machine and assembly line. Looking at how it needs 30000 eu/t to make a mark 1 fusion reactor, wich then I could make plasma with.

Diesel engine is leaking diesel-oil-mixture

Hello everyone!

Our diesel engine is leaking diesel/oil at the fuel injectors. I renewed the whole sealing of the valve cap twice including the copper rings at the base of the injectors.

I work as a mechanic now for about six months and am still learning. What am I missing here?

I hope I could explain it understandable because english is not my native language. Thanks for your answers!

Edit: The engine is a 2.2 litre diesel Ford engine in a Peugeot Boxer. The car itself is from 2008 but the engine was later replaced by a refurbished one. No problem with oil pressure or working in general.

$DYA - dynaCERT builds Carbon Emission Reduction Technology for diesel engines

Disclaimer: This is my first attempt to do a due diligence. So please tell me if I'm doing okay or have a steep way in front of me to learn how to do it right.

So I invested in dynaCERT ($DYA or $DYFSF) before COVID-19 and in Trump's last year. $DYA took a deep nosedive in those times, but is rising ever since then. (Hasn't recovered all the way yet)

Con:

- $DYA is currently unprofitable. RoE -64.84%

- Losses have increased over the past 5 years at a rate of 35% per year

- The CEO's earnings have increased while the company was unprofitable and are above average for this Canadian market

- insiders have sold more shares than they have bought in the past 3 months

- Shareholders have been diluted in the past year

- mdh1119 pointed out their silence when the market crashed 6 months ago in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pennystocks/comments/i7td15/dynacert_presenting_at_super_stock_conference/

Pro:

- $DYA's short term assets (CA$21.0M) exceed its short term liabilities (CA$982.5K) Long term looking good as well

- They reduce debt constantly, current debt to equity ratio is 0.6%

- $DYA has sufficient cash runway for more than a year based on its current free cash flow.

- CEO Jim Payne has more than 8 years experience and his team averages around 3 years experience

- The current price is 0.7 US$ which seems undervalued

- Market Cap is CA$267M

- Here is an 6-month-old DD https://www.reddit.com/r/pennystocks/comments/igntyc/dyfsf_is_the_way_of_the_future_for_green_engines/ I found

Neutral:

- Ownership: Private Companies 1.9%, Institutions 5.5%, Individual Insiders 13.2%, General Public 79.4%

- Employees are around 40 people
