At the moment I'm binge watching Schitts Creek. For what is mostly a comedy, it's got me in the feels.
TL;DR: Many of the technical architectural changes to this game like AI and gear overhauls will take at least 12-18 months of development. Do not expect a miracle, if CDPR decided to invest resources into improving the game beyond basic optimization/bug fixes at all.
We all know the game is disappointing technically. Even the fanboys are frustrated, but just won't openly critique the game. I see a lot of people saying the issues with this game will be "patched out." While it is possible for some aspects of the game to be rectified in maintenance patches, other core elements of the game require complete overhauls or creation in the first place. Such overhauls demand significant time and resources to develop and implement.
Here's a list of some things that standard patches can address:
Here's a list of things that likely require full overhauls that would be equivalent to a major title update a la The Division or No Man's Sky due to poor implementation (or lack thereof):
Here's a list of actual quest/story DLC that is likely planned or should be restored:
I am beyond hyped for Cyberpunk, it's preloaded from GOG, just teasing me with that play button that works.
Regardless if you are a die hard fan or not, the way that reviews have been handled by the media is misguided, and the way that CD Projekt Red handled it is downright deceitful.
They are actively marketing and asking for you to pre-order. Regardless of Day 0/1/2/3 patches, they are asking you to pre-order something that comes as a physical item for most people getting it.
When Cyberpunk 2077 went gold, then they should have had the game in a state that it would be sent to reviewers. Instead from leaked footage. By leaked footage I mean that this is gameplay footage of the data that shipped with the physical copy for the Xbox, uploaded before release day. So if someone lives out in the sticks with barely good internet or do not have reliable access to the internet then that is the game they have.
We can see that the game was not ready to ship, at all, period.
Things need to change, this is one of the most hyped games I have ever seen, but I feel so many people on the PS4 and Xbox One are just being lied to and are set for disappointment. Some probably will be so disappointed that they will be in disbelief and think something else is wrong.
Things need to change, even if it is an industry wide gentlemen's agreement.
In addition to that, gaming media should,
It's just insane the amount of hype this game has with it's troubled development of being delayed three times, people working [six day work weeks since September](https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-09-30-cy... keep reading on reddit ➡
With 7 years under this game's belt, I would expect to see certain things that have become staples in RPGs (yes...I know this game is arguably an RPG). And for all the hype and a $60 price tag, these things should have been included, but weren't.
Better driving AI. It's atrocious. I took this video yesterday of AI driving THROUGH highway barriers
Better driving controls for certain platforms (namely PC). The mouse should be able to be used as a steering wheel, and not solely the camera. I'm either flooring the gas or not touching it, and either turning the steering wheel hard over or leaving it center. Who drives like this?
Better law enforcement AI. Stand next to them for longer than 3 seconds? They shoot you. Cross the yellow tape? You get shot. Shoot someone from a 100 story building roof? They immediately spawn behind you and start shooting you. They don't chase you, and there is no "star" system like GTA has. You're either wanted dead, or you're a model A citizen. But that can change in 3 seconds.
No "barbershop", or any way to change your character's look post-creation. Why? All that work was put into the creator, but you're stuck with your look forever? World of Warcraft does this. GTA does this. But Cyberpunk 2077, the most hyped game of 2020, can't do this?
No car customization. I ask the same questions I did about the lack of a barbershop.
The crafting/upgrade system is poorly thought out. Upgrading blue or higher tier items just isn't worth it. The required materials are too rare just to get an extra 3-5 armor, when you can just wait a level or two and get a white item that has a 10 armor or better increase. Crafting my own items is also trivial considering how numerous loot is in the world, and how easy it is to make money and just buy better stuff from a vendor.
No way to see what level requirement upgrading gear has. All I get is a message telling me my level is too low to upgrade an item, but I'm not told what the new level requirement is. Why the secrecy?
Certain attachments, like scopes, don't say what weapons or items they can be slotted into. It's a guessing game, and when trying to clean my inventory of the dozens of scopes I've accumulated I'm afraid of tossing anything for fear of throwing out the one scope a certain gun could have used. We need better information on our inventory items.
No control over my mobile phone. If someone calls
Throwaway for obvious reasons.
I've spent the last year planning my exit strategy. I moved to somewhere with a lower cost of living. I lowered my expenses. I prepared to live on a fraction of my income.
Then I quit my job as a Principal Software Engineer for a major tech company. They offered me a promotion, I said no. I have zero plans of ever getting another job in this industry.
I love coding. I love making software. I love solving complex problems. But I hate the industry and everything it's become. It's 99% nonsense and it manufactures stress solely for the sake of manufacturing stress. It damages people, mentally. It's abusive.
I'm sick of leetcode. I'm sick of coding interviews. I'm sick of everyone being on Adderall. I'm sick of wasting time writing worthless tests. I'm sick of fixing more tests than bugs. I'm sick of endless meetings and documents and time tracking tools. I'm sick of reorgs. I'm sick of how slow everyone moves. I'm sick of the corporate buzzwords. I'm sick of people talking about nebulous bullshit that means absolutely nothing. I'm sick of everyone above middle management having the exact same personality type. I'm sick of worrying about everyone's fragile ego. I'm sick of hissy fits. I'm sick of arrogance. I'm sick of political games. I'm sick of review processes that encourage backstabbing. I'm sick of harassment and discrimination. I'm sick and I'm tired.
And now I don't have to deal with it anymore.
I've never felt happier. It's as if I've been freed from prison.
I won't discourage anyone from pursuing a career in software, but I will encourage everyone who does to have an exit plan from day one. One day, you'll realize that you're rotting from the inside out.
I wasn't expecting this many responses, so I'll answer some questions here.
I'm in my early 40's and I've been doing this since college.
I didn't get a large sum of money, I simply moved to a small place in a small town where I'll be taking a part time job working outdoors. I was living in a tech center with a high cost of living.
I've worked at 7 companies, including Microsoft and Amazon. The startups were much nicer, but they become more corporate over time.
Finding a good company culture is mostly luck, and I'm tired.

Due to an increasing number of updates and a continually evolving situation regarding CDPR and the current state of Cyberpunk 2077, we've decided to establish a megathread to consolidate recent and future updates to prevent them from overwhelming the subreddit.
Posts regarding CDPR or Cyberpunk 2077 will be redirected to this thread for a short amount of time. We will continually post updates to this thread as needed until the initial blitz dies down, then we will evaluate separate posts on a case-by-case basis: we may allow substantial updates to continue outside of this megathread, but they must be significant in nature.
SIE offers a full refund for digital purchases of Cyberpunk 2077 through PSN store, as well as removal of the game from the store.
CDPR responds via Twitter.
Bloomberg: CDPR faces hostile staff after failed launch
Microsoft expands refund policies for digital purchases of Cyberpunk 2077 through Microsoft Store
Best Buy allowing full refunds for opened copies of Cyberpunk 2077 through December 21st.
CDPR releases a statement on refunds via Twitter announcing a refund initiative for owners of physical or digital copies bought at retail with a valid proof of purchase, through December 21st.
For comparison GTA spend more than 50% of their budget on development.

The Roster has been there FOREVER and is stale
In November 2000, The Undertaker was the longest serving active wrestler on the roster by some distance. It was so unique that they built a whole marketing campaign around it; “Decade of Destruction”. The Undertaker is also a once in a lifetime anomaly, so let’s put him to one side for now and just use him as a point of reference. The next longest serving main event guys were Triple H and Steve Austin, two top guys who had both been there 1995. Both HHH and Austin underwent huge character changes in that five year period. Austin of course coming in as ‘The Ringmaster’, before transitioning into Stone Cold Steve Austin. The other two top stars at that time were The Rock and Mick Foley.
Of the five top guys in 2000, it’s Triple H who is the perfect example of character development. Let’s take Triple H from the fall of 1997 through to 2000. October 1997, as a co-founder of D-Generation X, he wears mostly dark blue/black tights and wore his hair in a half-ponytail. He is sophomoric and immature. While he is a co-founder, Shawn Michaels is obviously the natural leader. Triple H in March of 1998 seizes the opportunity following the departure of Shawn Michaels. Now the leader of DX, he is more mature, a leader, but still occasionally a class clown. He tweaks his look and begins wearing black, red or purple tights and starts wearing his hair down. The same guy, the same gimmick, the same stable (with newer members), same theme music – but he looks different, he looks fresh. Eventually DX becomes so popular as an upper-midcard stable that they turn babyface organically for the rest of their initial run.
HHH starts 1999 as leader of DX, but then he betrays them at Wrestlemania in order to join The Corporation. The Corporation merges with The Ministry, but by June 1999 HHH becomes tired of playing second to The Undertaker. Ok, but Why? Because he is beginning to view himself as the top dog. Why, and this is the crux of it all. Why? Because what else is there for him to do. There is nowhere left for him to go but up to that next level. He’s been both deputy and sheriff of the group he helped create. He’s been the King of The Ring, he’s been European Champion, he’s been Intercontinental Champion, there is now only one LOGICAL step left to take. To become WWE Champion.
So now, he begins to cut an increasingly frustrated figure, and now we see HHH as a true singles competitor for t... keep reading on reddit ➡
Just mad truly that my own life was spent taking care of kids that I didn’t want and obviously my parents didn’t have time for, it’s like a pet but you can’t surrender them to a shelter when you start neglecting their needs. I have three younger siblings 19, 15, 12. I hate them I spent all of my time watching them as selfish as that sounds my childhood wasn’t me being a carefree child, it was exhausting repetition and my siblings are horribly behaved. thanks mom for beating me and not them because it’s child abuse suddenly.
I’m child free, but I see so many people pooping out vagooter gremlins like “but it has to have a friend!” No we don’t I would’ve preferred to be an only child.
Edit: I wasn’t expecting this much feedback, but I’m reading all of your comments and trying to updoot for sharing your experiences!
I love the games, if executives decide to make crappy business decisions that’s on them. I prefer Nintendo games over any other games in the industry, just because the people in charge are dumb or old, doesn’t mean I won’t care about their newest games and won’t support their products. I will buy their games as long as they interest me. The entire industry is filling up with subscriptions, micro transactions and poor work environments, so is supporting Nintendo any worse or different? it isn’t. I buy the games because I love the developers. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything they do.
> This is according to a report from TV and film industry insider Daniel Ritchtman. Richtman claims that Netflix wants the series to be just as, if not more popular than its 2019 adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher, which also drew inspiration from CD Projekt Red's iconic video game series. The series is expected to directly adapt the version of Tamriel fans are familiar with from the long-running video game franchise.
I’m still learning quite a lot and formulating my understanding, so please be kind. I believe Oligarchy, or a small ruling class of “elites”, springs up like a cancer and manifests in some way in all forms of government. I see it in the United States and most other countries of the developed world. I see it in countries currently industrializing. Seems to me that these “elites” systematically prevent Capitalism or Socialism from benefitting the masses so that they can reap an ever-growing unequal share of benefits for their own class. How can we eradicate existing Oligarchies worldwide and also prevent future development of Oligarchies in either Capitalist or Socialist systems?
I get they're all software development in a sense, but is there one area or areas of software development whose outlook is better over the next decade? My concern with web dev is things like automation/applications that basically do all the coding for you
