Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge The tool that EVERYONE needs to own!

I never had one until I wrecked my MTB and obviously bent my derailleur hanger that was previously tuned just right. I picked up a Park Tool alignment gauge and boom; good as new! It was so quick and easy I hit all my bikes just because and now they all shift WAY better! Even though I'm careful with my bikes, I guess little things over time like loading in and out of trucks, dragging them out of a cluttered garage, leaning them on things, had minutely bent my derailleur hangers. I bet in the past 80% of times I thought I needed to tune my shifters, I really just needed to straighten my derailleur.

I have fitted a brand new Hanger to my road bike after the old hanger was snapped when trying to straighten it. I checked the new Hanger with the hanger alignment tool which revealed that the hanger is not parallel with the wheel at the top.

Is this normal for a brand new hanger to need adjusting so it's parallel with the rear wheel??

Chain rubbing Front Derailleur cage

Hello everyone. first of all English is not my first language. so sorry if a type an stupid thing.

I own right now a Canyon Endurace 6.0 Tiagra group set.

so what is happening is this; when I'm in the biggest gear (smallest cog in the back, big ring in front) and the bike is in the bike stand. and i pedal de bike. the chain wont touch the cage on the front derailleur. I did a research and this video was super helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNG7g83lI-s&vl=en and i adjust everything to perfection, using this video and other web pages and articules. just FYI i did leave spaces between the chain and cage angle of cage etc, exactly as suppose to be.

the thing is that when I'm pedaling my bike and I want to go hard on this gear (small cog back, big ring in front) and a put pressure on it. will always rub no matter what i do i always get this fucking annoying sound and feel it. obviously if I'm in this gear going slow will not rub or if I'm going very fast downhill and fast cadence will not rub.

is this normal????? i saw a video from the GCN guys with hank i thing is his name. going only in this gear putting 900 watts of power (was a challenge video) and he never got the annoying rubbing thing. He was on a Pinarello bike with a Durace di2.

i just want to know if it is normal that sometimes the chain rube the front derailleur on any group set or depends on the bike? or if my setup is wrong. at the end of the park tool video this guys says that a little of rubbing is okay, but is not OK if the chain is falling off or the sound its super bad. and that sometimes some bikes tend to flex more than others because of the pressure we put on the pedals. but this is the first time this happens to me.

thanks to all if you really read this i want to know what he Reddit experts thinks about this. and if you have the same group set will be better to know your experience.

Shimano XT Deore derailleur paired with a road shifter? Plus a bonus question..

Hello all, I'm converting my early 80s Nishiki Backroads to drop bars and a 1x for a more comfortable commuter/easy single track rider. I don't have the biggest budget, so I'm trying to make some stuff work. Currently I have a XT Deore 11-speed derailleur that is not being used (was on my mtb, broke, I rebuilt it), which I would love because it has a clutch and will be nice for some of the easy XC single track where I live, plus it can handle larger cogs. However, I'm not sure if it will work with Shimano road shifters...any thoughts on compatibility?

Bonus question:

I also have a line on a free One-Up 10-speed cassette, it's in good condition and has a good gear range. I've seen that video from Spindatt where he made a 10 speed derailleur work with a 9-speed cassette. Can I do the same with an 11-speed derailleur and 10-speed cassette?

Anyone tried a 40t+ cassette with the shimano RD-RX810 rear derailleur?

The RD-RX810 is spec'd for a max cassette site of 34T. There's also a RD-RX812 which can handle up to 42T but it's only for 1x11 (not 2x11).

According to my local bike shop:

>The double front chain ring requires using the compatible RD-RX810 rear derailleur which has a 34t Max cog capacity. The single front chainring version uses a different rear derailleur RD-RX812 that is the 42t max capacity. Unfortunately that rear derailleur will not work with 2 front chainrings- we’ve tried it with zero success. They look almost the same, however, they are very different.

I want a 2x11 setup, so that's why I'm wondering how big I can go with the RD-RX810.

Bought second set of wheels, is it possible to swap without derailleur adjustments?

Hey everyone,

I bought a secondhand wheel set with the idea of having a set of β€œtrail wheels” with mtb tires and keeping road tires on the wheels that came on my bike so I could swap between the two setups. Here’s what I’m working with:

Bike: 2018 Giant roam disc 3

Road setup: Rim: Giant Alloy, double wall 700cc Cassette: Shimano HG31 11x34, 8-Speed

Trail setup: Rim: Specialized Axis Sport Disc 700cc Cassette: Shimano hg cs-hg50, 8 speed

My hope was the trail setup would work right away since they are both Shimano 8-speed but I quickly learned it wouldn’t.

Is there a way for me to have everything set up so I can easily swap wheels? The road wheel has a dork disc, does that affect anything? Would cassette spacers work or would buying the same exact cassette solve my issue?

Thanks

Do 2 extra teeth on a derailleur make a noticable difference when climbing?

I got myself a Fuji Touring bike with 3x9 speed system. For touring in a mountainous area I would like to be able to use use a larger rear gear.

The cassette I have now is a 10-34T Shimano Deore, and the smallest gear in front has 26 teeth. I was thinking to just buy a new cassette, but I couldn't find any other cassette that features more than 36 teeth on the biggest gear.

Is the change from 34 to 36 worth it or negligible?
