..and asks, “W-w-w-what’s y-y-your L-l-lay a-a-away p-p-policy?” The clerk behind the counter just looks at him and says nothing. The man repeats himself: “W-w-w whats y-y-your L-l-lay a-a-away p-p-policy?” Again, the clerk doesnt answer him. The guy asks several more times: “W-w-w-whats y-y-your L-l-lay a-a-away p-p-policy?” And the clerk just seems to ignore him. Finally, the guy is angry and storms off. The customer who was waiting in line behind the guy asks the clerk, “why wouldnt you answer that guy’s question?” The clerk answers, “D-d-do you th-th-th-think I w-w-w-want to get m-m-m-m-m-y ass k-k-k-icked?!!”
Not my story but my dads.
EM - Entitled Mother
D - My Dad
So my Dads pager went off (Used to contact firemen) and he rushed out to get to the fire station. He got there and a car is parked in front of the fire station gate. He got out of his car and went to talk to the Karen.
D: Hey, you can't park here.
EM: Oh I'll just be 10 minutes my daughter is just in the supermarket.
D: No you have to move there is a fire.
EM: Don't worry she'll be back soon.
D: If you don't move I'll have no choice but to call the police.
EM: NO! I need the food my daughter is getting. I'll starve!
D: Ma'am someone could die.
ED: Fine, But I'll be complaining to your Station Officer!
She eventually moved and no one was hurt in the fire. PLEASE don't be like this.
While he seems to think that this will mean he can abuse his powers with no repercussions, what will be more likely to happen is that the other party will record his abuses of power, and then threaten to release the recording unless he agrees to their policy demands.
For a man who thinks he is smart, he doesn't seem to be able to predict that actions may have multiple consequences. And the fact that he is more scared of US government officials than any foreign leader is bizarre and terrifying.
Edit: in fact foreign leaders will be able to release a doctored transcript or a faked recording alleging wrongdoing, and the US will have no competing transcript, testimony or recording they can reply with. Not that evidence of wrongdoing will be in short supply.
William Bradford Bishop Jr. was born August 1, 1936, in Pasadena, California to Lobelia and William Bradford Bishop Sr. He has a bachelor's degree from Yale and a master's degree in Italian from Middlebury College. He also holds a master's degree in African Studies from UCLA.
After graduating from Yale in 1959, Bishop married his high school sweetheart Annette Weis, with whom he had three sons. He joined the U.S. Army and spent four years in the counterintelligence area. Bishop also learned to speak four foreign languages fluently: Italian, French, Serbo-Croatian, and Spanish. After leaving the Army, Bishop joined the U.S. State Department and served in the Foreign Service in many postings overseas. This included postings in the Italian cities of Verona, Milan, and Florence (where he did post-graduate work at the University of Florence) from 1968 to 1972. He also served in Africa, including posts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and in Gaborone, Botswana, from 1972 to 1974. His last posting... keep reading on reddit ➡
This is a story my Dad told me the other day and I thought I would share here.
My Dad has been working for the same company for about 30+ years now. My Dad is extremely smart. I don't say that lightly. When he was 3 years old (yes, 3 years old) he rewired my grandmothers toaster oven when it broke. He graduated high school early and has always excelled in mathematics, physics, and most tech related areas.
My dad began working for Company X after finishing his associates degree. He was taking some time off before going back to school as he and my mom had just got married and he needed money. So my dad began working in Company X's printing pressroom as he did not have the academic credentials to apply for the job he really wanted at the time. This company printed everything from books, to magazine, newspapers and the like. According to my Dad, he actually really enjoyed working in the pressroom, it was a lot of manual labor and he was stuck on 2nd shift but he really liked his coworker... keep reading on reddit ➡
"These people are separate from the Americans who are under stricter federal quarantine, including those housed at four U.S. air bases and the 328 who were recently evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Those groups arrived from locations where the virus was rapidly spreading, whereas the people self-monitoring at home are thought to be at lower risk of having been exposed to it."
In the summer of 1973, a young man named Shawn McKenna graduated from Morse High School in Bath, Maine, and received a class ring engraved with his initials & the name of his high school. He gave it to his girlfriend, Debra, before heading off to college.
That fall, Debra lost the ring. She was washing her hands in the bathroom of a department store in downtown Portland, Maine, and forgot to put it back on again. When she remembered a few minutes later, the ring was gone, and was never found. She was upset, but Shawn was understanding. Shawn and Debra later got married in 1977 and were married for 40 years before Shawn passed away in 2017 from cancer.
In January of 2020, 38-year-old sheet metal worker Marko Saarinen (who metal detects for a few hours a week in the city parks of Kaarina, near the city of Turku in southwestern Finland) found Shawn's ring 6 inches deep in the soil of a forested city park. Googling the name of the high school, he posted on Morse's Facebook alumni pag... keep reading on reddit ➡
Schools: The latest recommendations from King County Public Health do not recommend closing schools summarily.
Public Health: As for schools, Hayes says they are not encouraging schools to close at this time unless a student or staff member has been diagnosed with the virus. The reason for this, she said, is that children have not been shown to be a high-risk group, and if kids aren't in school, they will just go someplace else. All school closures, she added, should be decided by local schools and school systems.
No one is doing anything.
Local Homeland Security Department is taking it more seriously
Itay and Japan taking it more seriously.

Good moaning, What’s the grumbles this week? Delayed train? Buggered car? Dropped / spilled everything?
Come on in and have a grumble.
For reference when international men’s day rolled around they had a few token mental heath posts on LinkedIn and sent a group email or two but that was it. Asked if I could attend this event and was told it was “at capacity”.
For reference I work in a large MNC
Since the usual thread is AWOL I thought I’d continue our lovely tradition!
I’ll start with radio ads that repeat the same thing over and over again. This is really starting to drive me up the wall on my commute, there’s a new one for the Royal Navy which starts every sentence with “I was on a ship...” repeat ad nauseam!
