This is why the β€œcommon denominator” theory is so dangerous

β€œThe victims of physical violence may also remain victims. Martin Seligman has done extensive studies on what is called β€˜learned helplessness.’ In essence, arbitrary, random, and unpredictable beatings create a state of passivity in which the victim no longer feels that there is anything that she can do. A negative belief system is adhered to. The person no longer believes she has a choice.

A simpler explanation for the bonding to violence is the fact that as one is beaten more and more, one is shamed more and more. The more internalized the shame, the greater the belief in oneself as defective and flawed. The more one believes one is defective and flawed, the more one’s choices are diminished. Internalized shame destroys one’s boundaries. Without boundaries one has no protection.”

The Case for an Intel-Mobileye, MicroVision-STM Strategic ADAS Partnership with STMicroelectronics being the Common Denominator

From the Q4 2020 CC

Sumit Sharma:

"We expect our long-range lidar sensor to demonstrate what we believe will be the high performance required for advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. This performance is calibrated to meet current OEM requirements and would include range of up to 250 meters and beyond, a high-resolution point cloud with up to 10.8 million points per second from a single return, object velocity relative to ego vehicle from a time-of-flight lidar, low latency, intensity, inertial output, and interference immunity from sunlight and other lidars. With such capabilities in our first potential product, we believe a future product could then include a lidar and camera module combined in a single sensor. We expect such a product could reduce the number of sensors required per vehicle to achieve features for advanced safety and autonomous driving. This improvement in cost could support faster adoption."

Note this sentence: "With such capabilities in our first potential product, we believe a future product could then include a lidar and camera module combined in a single sensor."

Mobileye currently is the leader in camera based ADAS systems with STMicroelectronics being the supplier of their advanced chips.

"The EyeQ4 chipsets are developed by Mobileye and manufactured by STMicroelectronics using the proprietary 28nm Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator (FD-SOI) low power consumption technology. Thanks to the SOI substrate, the EyeQ4 is 10 times as powerful as the EyeQ3 for just 20% more power consumption."

The β€œmy parents have no friends” (common denominator argument)...many of us, in ignorance, created adult lives also populated by narcs (that must be abandoned) how to differentiate the difference? Ideas?

This statement (another Redditor just posted this, and I agree with them of course)...but often our lives come out looking exactly the same (pretty alone) when we get to the β€œawake” stage, and stop supporting other n friendships and relationships (either they slink away when we drop the rope, or we finally start actively dropping them)...

Now, of course, we all know what they are and what they’ve done to us (and continue to do if they have opportunity), yet this common denominator explanation really messes with my inner resolve at times. Often, many of us eventually look around and realize that our entire family system is toxic, then we see it in our friends, maybe even marriage and in-laws. Now, that’s a lot of people, and one common denominator...so...it’s a troubling and confusing notion. How have others managed to differentiate the two β€œalones” (especially during moments of loneliness and self-doubt)?

What is the common denominator for all of your characters?

What is one things that you do with all of your characters. For example, since all of my characters are usually some kind of adventurer, they all have at least one extremely negative event in their past that defines them and/or sent them on their chosen path.

Here are some of the events of my characters.

Shalltear is a physician and a surgeon who regularly takes on Divine Beings as patients. At a very young age, his parents sold him to the military in hopes to get out of the slums. He was raised to be a soldier but was unable to kill someone when it came down to it. He was given over to the Medics, a neutral party in all wars, dedicated to saving all the people they can regardless if their side. His defining moment was when an a trigger happy soldier shot his friend, also a Medic, and killed him. As his friend's dying wish, Shalltear took his friend's organs and used them to save the dying people around him. From that point, he promised himself and his friend that he would dedicate the rest of his life saving others.

Baan is a minor god of protection, ascended for his morals and strength. As an Averial (basically a winged elf) he never held the same ideals as his kin and got him exiled. He then found himself at a dwarven outpost where he lived for a while before the dwarves eventually disappeared. This sense of abandonment drove him to do his best to make sure no one had to go through it. This manifested as protecting those that can't protect themselves and the ideal that got him ascended.

Sebastian is an Urboon, a being beloved to take in cold energy and use it as a unique magic. Sebastian was given a folklore title of King of Storms of Ice and Cold after joining a war against a mad sorcerer that burnt down his home. Now he roams taking down soon to be massive threats.

Sesha is a Grand Fire Djiin born into a family of renowned voice casters (people who cast magic via their voice). He was kidnapped by a mad scientist and experimented on. To stop his protesting, the mad scientist cut Sesha's vocal cords. Before the scientist could do anything beyond that, Sesha's nature as a Djiin awoke and killed the scientist.

Xerxes, oh good god Xerxes. Many things have happened to him over his existence. The first was the death of his parents, having the Void touch him. Next, he was forced to kill his only two friends (at the time) because their hearts were corrupted by a force threading his home nation. There are many, many more over his 10,00

Could we use rankings and percentages in order to manage resources as a common denominator?

I’ve been seeing a lot on ECP since I joined this sub and was wondering if it would be possible to get an input-output ratio based on the following:

Input: Ranking are essentially given like to the factors of production (1,2,3,4,5) this ranking is determined by the branch which makes it as the same as companies do under current-day capitalism based on the input-output ratio again. We take the percentages of how we take from each (so 20% level 2 workers, 20% level 2 machines, 20% level 2 land for example) and add it up to get the input value (this case would be 1.2)

Output: we can get the output ratio based on how much of the population buys it and the rating they give to it based on functionality (so if 20% of the population buys and gives it a 5 altogether, the output would be a 2)

The branches can then use this common denominator to form a supply chain similar today without the problems of hoarding wealth. I’m still pretty new to this so I’m prob wrong. Lemme know issues or reasons why it wouldn’t work in the comments.

What is the common denominator??

My person is someone who will not say he qanon, however after years of listening to him, I would say he is q-light. He doesn’t believe all the way to the blood drinking cabal part of it, but he floats around and sympathizes with most everything else, especially anything relating to Trump. He also has a general love of and interest in conspiracy theories in general.

He is a smart man, a professional with a masters degree, upper middle class, is a decent person, a good family man, a contributing member of society. If you met him you would Never think he believes what he believes.

What has absolutely boggled my mind over the last five years or so is WHY the hell does he fall for or at the very least sympathize with this stuff, and other conspiracy theories in general.

In an effort to figure it out, I was wondering does your person have any of the following characteristics (which mine does). I ask because my theory is that these characteristics make him more vulnerable to following this crap.

  1. Smokes probably way too much weed for years and years.
  2. Has an addictive personality.
  3. Grew up in an authoritarian household.
  4. Has low self esteem.
  5. Has a ridiculously low tolerance for uncertainty in life.
  6. Has a lot of anxiety. Actually on medicine for it.

[Question]Why there is no denominator in the Wald test?

I’m taking and adv econometrics class and my professor said that the Wald test is the asynthotic equivalent of the F test.

I get that a F distribution can be approximated to a chi square as the sample size increases. However in the F test formula has at the denominator the sample variance (s^2) divided by degrees of freedom of the chi square: number of restrictions r and the N-K (N is the sample size and K number of parameters to be tested). I don’t get why in the Wald test we correct only for r degrees of freedom and and if the variance estimator we use is same s^2 we used for the F-test. I hope I was clear enough, sorry for the mistakes and thank you redditors!

I'm the common denominator, but I still feel like I was in the right. Was I the asshole?

Every single one of my "best friendships" that was cultivated throughout middle and high school has imploded in a dramatic fashion during our college years, and I am the common denominator. My sister cruelly pointed that out to me once when she was commenting on how she still had all her best friends from grade school whereas I had no friends left. I can't deny that is true, so what is wrong with me? What did I do wrong? It seems completely obvious (to me) that I was not the one at fault in either of these events - I absolutely could have handled them better, by having a proper discussion with my friends instead of splitting and cutting them off, but am I wrong for thinking what they did really was unforgivable? Even after years of therapy and self-reflection, I still feel like I was well within reason for not believing I could ever trust these people again.

---

Freshman year of college, I flew back to my hometown to spend my birthday weekend with my three best friends from grade school. At a party, I had a threesome with one of my friends and her friend-with-benefits. We all seemed to enjoy ourselves, and the next morning we all laughed and teased each other about it at brunch. No indication that anything was wrong.

Later that same day, we were supposed to leave for a theme park but 2/3 of the friends (including the one I had slept with the night before) didn't show up. I texted them to ask where they were and they said they were at the FWB's house. I couldn't believe that they had ditched me on my birthday when I had been the one to fly up to see them, so I said they were no longer welcome to come and our friendship was over. I never got an explanation for why they decided to ditch me.

*Unrelated to the original event but worth noting: a few months later, I begin attending the same university as the friend I slept with. We have no contact between us, but have several mutual friends. When I am out of town one weekend, she attends a party hosted by one of my roommates then breaks into my room, steals clothes, smashes a mirror, and cuts my face out of a large canvas print I had of my sister and myself. I get the university's judicial affairs office involved (after the police refused to get involved) and am granted a no-contact order against her after I provide Snapchat screenshots where she admits to being the one who had done it. She is also required to give me a money order to cover the damages. Thankfully, we make it through the rest of coll

The common denominator of Episode 13

Every bot with a wedge won the fight (excluding Uppercut with its driving issues and Bloodsport's short wedgelets). They are established for a reason:

  • strong armour and counter to horizontal spinners (Whiplash)
  • support to your own weapon by breaking the stance of the opponent as well as nullifying their attacks (SawBlaze, Hydra)
  • failsafe for when your weapon breaks, allowing you to win pushing competitions and gain points in control/aggression (End Game, Black Dragon)

Whether you win the lower ground determines most of the time the fate of the match. There's a reason why pure-wedge bot designs are rejected (beside being boring).

Wedgelets can be used as counter to heavy wedges as they can stay closer to the ground, tho they offer less protection and don't counter horizontal spinners.

People want variety, but not running these weapon supports leaves a lot of openings.
