First-Gen Definition (per US Gov’t)

I’ve seen a number of posts here asking if a student is or isn’t a β€œfirst-generation college student.” Here is the definition from the US government (I believe this is from the FAFSA):

β€œThe term β€˜β€™first-generation college student’’ means (A) An individual both of whose parents did not complete a baccalaureate degree; or (B) In the case of any individual who regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, an individual whose only such parent did not complete a baccalaureate degree.”

Hence, if one or both of your parents earned a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) you are not a first-generation college student.

Now, some schools may have different definitions. if so, they’ll provide their definition.

Ultimately, being labeled a first-gen student won’t have much sway one way or the other, but it’s important you answer this question honestly.

Hope this helps!

26 w/New Gov Job & No debt

I saw a similar post below but wanted to also ask a similar question. What even is TSP? I have 0 debt (will buy a car soon but not worried) & wanted to know how to maximize my retirement/investments. I know I’ll be filling out this paperwork soon (or on mypay) and I want to make sure I’m setting myself up for a great retirement. I’m not worried about take home pay, I want to maximize what I can. Is there a TSP for dummies book or explanation? Thank you!

AP US GOV Are there any students with teachers that are EXTREMELY bad at teaching, to the point of not even teaching us ANY of the required documents except for the constitution.

My teacher is a good person and is truly passionate about government but literally spends the whole class time discussing her own political views instead of teaching us the AP curriculum. Now that AP Gov is over, I literally don't even know what we learned the whole year. I could tell you zilch about US Government. I don't know what to do cuz I'm signed up for the AP Test in May, and I really don't wanna waste $90 bucks.....
