"Credit one" credit card is a massive scam & the definition of debt trap for the vulnurable. Spread the word.

I'm posting this here for everyone to not fall for this scam.

So long story short, CREDIT ONE sends you a nice credit card offer. Everything looks legit & unsuspecting. You reply to the credit offer and sign up. You think it's a normal credit card like all the other credit cards in the market RIGHT? WRONG!!!!!

As soon as you login to the credit card you just received, you will have a minimum of 75$ balance, even if you have not even activated your card yet, you have a 75$ balance !!!!

Even if you call them to increase your 200$ total credit limit, they will charge you 20-25$ to even consider it (and then telling you no.)

You will be charged extra & additional hidden fees that you never knew existed before for every single transaction. Everything turns out to be extremely costly and more expensive than it already is with their hidden fees.

Last but not least, even if right after replying to their offer and realizing you were scammed with a surprised 75$ bill you decide to close your account, YOU WILL STILL OWE THEM 75$ even if you have not activated your card yet !!!!

Did I mention that credit one credit card charges you more than 20% interest aside from all the hidden fees mentioned above?

If you received an offer from Credit One, "RUN!!!!"

What is your definition of being buffered? Should I use my holiday bonus to get fully buffered or pay off some debt?

As of last month, my routine getting paid biweekly:

Paycheck 1:

  • Fund last of current months bills (electric, storage, cable)

  • Fund second portion of current months daily expenses (food, gas, fun money)

  • Fund the big one for next month (Rent)

Paycheck 2:

  • Fund next months major bills (student and car loans, insurance, credit card)

  • Fund first portion of next months daily expenses (food, gas, dog, fun)

So going into a new month, the only things not funded are latter-half secondary bills, and about 2 weeks worth of daily expenses.

I don't have any separate "Emergency Fund". I have about $2,500 in credit card debt.

Today I received Paycheck 1 AND my holiday bonus (which is roughly $500 more than regular check). So basically I am receiving 3 Paychecks + $500 this month. The extra 500 is going towards some overdue car repairs. About $400 is going towards gifts.

With the remainder, I can either fully fund next month and eliminate $1000 of CC debt (with $1500 left)....OR stay in my "half-buffered" state but completely pay off the CC debt and pay some extra on loan debt.

It should be noted that my credit debt is interest-free for 10 more months.

Since 1940, Congress has raised, extended, or altered the definition of the debt limit 91 times. 36 times under a (D) president, 55 times under an (R) president. "They have done so with some 300 days to spare on average."

This fact is from this Economist article. But I didn't like the fact that they left out the "55 times under a Republican president".

And I think their graph sucks. I think my graph illustrates who got us here and shows that we need the House to introduce their first jobs bill (like they promised) to increase receipts!!!
