A new "Double Cymbal" problem (not double hits)

Hello All!

I am playing RB3 on the XBOX 360. I have the MPA and a Yamaha DTX900 kit. Everything works great when I am not using cymbals. I have been doing really well on expert mode using my tom pads and snare. No problems there.

I recently moved and now have space for my full kit. I have been playing pro mode using my PCY cymbals. I don't have any trouble with the kit when I am playing through my amp or with headphones, but when I am playing RB3 and I hit two cymbals at the same time, sometimes it triggers the toms instead of the cymbals. It only triggers a tom that corresponds to the cymbal that I am hitting, so it isn't like it is some kind of crosstalk that always triggers a specific tom when I make a double cymbal hit.

I tried adjusting the slider, which didn't change anything. I tried using different cymbals to see if the problem was a specific cymbal, and that didn't help either. For example, I have my hi hats set to yellow cymbal, as well as a crash cymbal set to yellow cymbal. I have the same problem when I use either for double cymbal hits. Same goes for when I use my ride (blue cymbal) with my second crash (green cymbal). Every now and then it triggers a blue or green tom hit instead of a cymbal hit.

I know that doing flams helps prevent this from happening, but I am hoping there is a better solution than that. My flams are decent, but its really hard for faster double cymbal hits when you are in the middle of hitting a bunch of other notes.

Thanks for reading my post :)

Edit: Did more testing. To check for crosstalk, I unplugged everything except for my cymbals and my snare. Same problem. When hitting two cymbals at the same time, I randomly get Tom hits.

Also, to test to make sure it was only double cymbal hits and not just an individual cymbal problem, I booted up my test song (β€œBehind Blue Eyes”, there’s nearly no drums in the song) and just all out rolled on individual cymbal pads. No Tom hits were registered. I seem to have no problems with my individual notes on any pad, cymbal, Tom, or snare.

Don't buy beginner B8 cymbals

So I've seen this again and again in this sub. They are a bad value.
I get it:
Buying used cymbals is not for everyone. But at almost every store you can get a B20 set for about the same price. Like Wuhan, Zultan or Fame.
Don't buy big brands new for that kind of money.

Edit: This is not meant to bash b8s. If you like them thatβ€˜s great. But telling a beginner to buy a big brand b8 pack is just bad advice imho.

Dream Cymbals Recycling Program

Hy Drummit! Dream Cymbals here checking in to make sure you know about our recycling program!

The DREAM Cymbals Recycling Program is the easiest way to get a new cymbal into your setup while saving money and the environment.

The Recycling Program is simple, bring your broken or unwanted cymbals (regardless of brand) into your local DREAM dealer and you earn one dollar for every inch of cymbal you bring in towards the purchase of a new DREAM Cymbal. For example, bring in two 20 inch cymbals for recycling and receive 40 dollars off the price of a new DREAM Cymbal. It's that easy.

We in turn take the recycled cymbals and use them to create new products like our Re-FX Crop Circles, Crotales and Naughty Saucers.

Head here and fill out the form and we will get back to you with exactly how to turn your old unwanted or broken cymbals into a brand new Dream! If you have no active recycling dealers in your area, Don't fret, we will work with you to find a solution that works!

Right now the Recycling Program is only avaiable in North America but are working to expand it worldwide in the coming months.

If anyone has questions feel free to ask in the comments, We're looking forward to recycling your cymbals!

Cymbal help!!!

Okay so I play punk music and I just bought the 22 inch sabian aax medium ride it’s kinda dark and bright (a happy medium of both) it’s gotta great crashing ability and a nice dry raw bell but bc it’s very big I’m wondering if when I upgrade my crashes should I go up to a 20 and an 18? I’m just worried it’ll be to much or really washy because I’m a fan of darker sounding cymbals like the hhx line and I just don’t want the cymbals to not fit my type of playing if that makes sense.

Cymbal Art

Hello guys,

I’ve recently seen on Anika Nilles’ instagram a photo of her doing a doodle on one of her cymbals. I wanna try the same.

I want the marker to be as permanent as possible so it won’t rub off when I play the cymbal as I want it on my main kit.

Any suggestions on what I should use to draw on it?

All the best!

How much does the pitch of a cymbal really matter?

Context: I've been playing guitar for around 20 years, and bought my first drum kit about 3 years ago. (Largely to enable me to host jams.) As of this January, I started aggressively woodshedding and studying drums. I can't say enough about how positive of an experience this has been for me!

This eventually lead me to become very curious about cymbals.. How they inspire you to play different, how to get the most out of them, what makes a cymbal sound the way it does, and the many different approaches to choosing a cymbal setup.

My question for you folks is.. How much does pitch really matter? I have heard differing opinions on this, and still don't really know how I feel about it. When you pick out crash cymbals, are you thinking more about textures, or pitch?

I can't help but hear the fundamental note of a cymbal when I hit it. Nor can I block out the melody that I hear when playing two cymbals within a short period of time within a measure. Some people claim it doesn't really matter that much when you are part of the overall mix of a band.

One thing I have noticed is that trashier cymbals with more "white noise" seem to be easier to pair than something that would be considered very clear.

At the end of the day, I realize I need to go with what my ear tells me, but I am worried about having an unrealistic perspective and obsessing about details that don't really matter all that much.
