Hubble and the idea of an expanding Universe: the biggest mistake ever made in Cosmology.

The whole Big Bang idea stems from observed cosmological redshift by Edwin Hubble way back in the 1920's.

Redshift made it look like everything in the Universe was moving away from us. So either we're the center of the Universe, or the entire universe is expanding, or there's something else that explains the redshift.

As far as I can tell, Hubble either preferred the expanding universe explanation or was unable to come up with any plausible alternatives.

So if the universe is expanding as we go forward in time, that implies contraction if you go backward. Since you can't have infinite contraction, there has to be an origin point in spacetime (if space actually is expanding).

But spacetime means that any movement equals an equivalent movement in time (where C is the "clock"). Since space and time are part of one thing, a difference in time can also be the equivalent of a difference in distance.

Simple reflexive logic...

If Ξ” T = Ξ” D (with C as a constant)... Ξ” D = Ξ”T

So light travelling across a certain duration of time between 2 fixed reference points which are not moving apart from each other is the equivalent of some amount of increase in distance. Since the speed of light is constant, redshift is the result.

tldr; Spacetime means you can have an appearance of movement (ie. an apparent increase in distance) because of the effect the passage of time has on light (or the way an observer will perceive the light)

As time passes, the light gets "stretched" and this is what causes redshift. This doesn't necessarily prove or disprove curvature though.

Imo Hubble was wrong and there's perhaps no way to know how old the Universe really is. If my explanation is correct, Hubble made the biggest cosmological mistake of all time.

Edit: If you think of E=MC^^2 in terms of an equilibrium equation, You can see units of energy (on the left) equal a combination of units of mass, distance and time (on the right). So the extra time that causes redshift must have an energy equivalent... and this is where the "missing energy" problem is solved.

Your light starts out with a given amount of energy, gets redshifted as it passes across spacetime between any 2 points in space (with zero relative velocity to each other). The increased duration of time (proportional to energy as per E=MC^^2 ) is reflected in the lower energy frequency wavelengths that result from redshift.

I hope this idea catches on because I think it's right.

Planar Cosmology of the Zelda Games

Is there any exhaustive information about the planar cosmology of the Zelda games? I've posted a few ideas in the recent thread about time travel speculation.

We see a primordial chaos mentioned in the Golden Goddess creation story. I may be wrong on this, but from what I can gather the sacred realm seems to be linked to the spot from which they exited the material realm after its creation (a possible dimensional tear). I've speculated that perhaps the Temple of Time exists to contain this dimensional rift ~ and possibly that time travel exploits this rip in the spacetime somehow (maybe link could sort of leak through it into other timestreams or something).

Ganondorf mentions an ethereal plane when you defeat his phantom in the Forest temple of OoT, talking about banishing the ghost to a space 'between' planes. Perhaps the hero's shade in Twilight Princess conducts his lessons in the ethereal realm?

Lorule reminds me of Shadowfell. I haven't given this much thought yet but off the top of my head there seems to be: primordial chaos, a dark realm, a light realm, a twilight realm (between the dark and light realms?), several conjunctive material realms and demiplanes, and an ethereal realm (existing between all of these).

Can anyone think of other planes mentioned in separate titles?

Question about exaltation and Mormon cosmology

I've been reading up on Mormon theology out of curiosity. I came across the quote "As man now is, God once was: As God now is, man may be" from a church father.

This means that God was once a man who reached a level of exaltation by being faithful to his God? And that faithful Mormons will become Gods themselves someday? If so, how does Mormonism address the problem of infinite regress? Most Christians simply claim that God is infinite and eternal. Do Mormons believe that there is a 'root' God who has always existed and created all other Gods? Do other Gods exist in other solar systems/galaxies or does it posit an infinite system of parallel universes like modern cosmology does?

Respectfully, A non-mormon :)

Edit: wrote irreducible complexity when i meant infinite regress

Strong alignment between the implied cosmology behind Throawaylien's story and the beliefs of modern New Age movements

Xpost from elsewhere including /r/aliens where it was removed :

Unfortunately I dont have time to get into the details at length here, but i noticed that Throawaylien's description of humanity being interesting to the "current" aliens because of innate tendence to worship idols etc fits directly with the arguments of new age woo woo types like Lee Carrol.

Carrol and others claim that humans were engineered by a higher dimensional species named "The Pleiadians" with a tendency to search for the nature of God baked into our DNA as an experiment (along with some other species i believe).

Anyone familiar with this stuff have any thoughts?

Smash Bros. has quite the overlooked cosmology

You might be surprised to see what’s outlined in this post, so let’s get into it, shall we?

The Smash continuity has a special function which is applicable to all universes interconnected to one another. Every time either an action or inaction is executed, an entire infinite universe/timeline is generated within the Smash spectrum. Literally doing nothing is all it takes to perform such a command in this multiverse of sorts. And what is this outstripped by? The answer is the Real World.

The Real World is a metaphysical plane of existence in which the beings who reside there view the Smash continuity as futile pieces of toys and fiction. Master Hand is the creator of the Smash-verse, so he is one to fictionally transcend it by housing himself to the Real World. Yet, with all that power, he got bodied by Tabuu, then was superseded by Galeem, who should be more powerful than the former since he was able to control dozens and dozens of these exact copies of him (Dharkon also gripping onto duplicates of Crazy Hands). This means that there is a stack of meta narrative concepts intact within the abstract Real World looming outside and over the lower world of the entire Smash multiverse.

So, how is the main Smash world connected to the canon universes? In order for us to plummet further into this, we have to dive into Smash Ultimate. You see, each Spirit contains their origins above their title, and we learn from gameplay that once they are no longer needed for assistance they’ll return back to their home worlds. See what I’m trying to get at? This heavily implies that all universes mentioned up to this point in the Smash franchise are interconnected. To further support this, there’s been numerous crossovers that have taken place in these worlds. Take Kirby’s world, for example. We encounter a family of Metroids in the midst of the good ending in Kirby’s Dream Land 3. A second conceivable one is one where unique enemies are fought in the Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which are clearly ones that are normally found in other existing universes. There’s many more where that came from, but I’ll spare you the details in favor of a counterargument.

You might say this is irrelevant as the characters differentiate fr

Cosmology visualization

Hey guys. So, weird question. Keith said the planar orrery is more of a metaphor for the planes:

> "They aren’t actually little planets orbiting Eberron; they are layers of reality that exist sideways to Eberron. But because they move in and out of alignment in a predictable fashion, the orrery is a convenient way to depict them. And Eberron is at the center because it touches all of them, while they don’t directly touch one another."

My question is: What is a more accurate visual representation of the cosmology? I thought about a tesseract grid, like a 13 sided polyhedron with Eberron at the center, but it still doesn't make much sense to me.

How would you imagine this?

I Just Had An Idea For the Cosmology of My World But I'm Overthinking It

I had the idea that my world, Kisunda, is one of the many petals of a cosmic world-flower in a much greater garden of worlds so I guess the universe would be infinite, then?

This world-flower, and the garden, will be tended to by Guardians who protect the worlds from creatures born from the Womb of Chaos who want to devour the world-flowers in order to gain the power of Creation. The Guardians try to keep the world-flowers alive because when the flower itself begins to wither and die, so do the worlds it sustains.

I'm not very good at science, so this concept is more in the vein of Yggdrasil from Norse mythology. This isn't much information, I know, but does this sound interesting at all? What sort of questions do you have that you feel I should focus on to flesh this out?

I imagine the middle of the flower might be the heavens or maybe the sun? And the stem could be where the hells are located. I'd love to hear any thoughts or ideas about this concept!

Musings on life, the universe and everything within the Sandman/DC Omniverse - Part 7; The evolution of archetypes and cosmology within the Omniverse

”In the beginning, if there ever was a beginning, God created a number of things, including the universe, and, to some degree, let them get on with it.

After that, the tale grows a little muddy.

On this, as with so many things, secrets are kept, and mysteries are held.”

- Neil Gaiman; Notes Towards a Vegetable Theology (1989)

In what will probably be my last musings post (for now at least!) Im going to expand upon the ideas explored in the the Retcon Factor post , as well as building on the posts examining DC synergies between the First Circle , the Archangels and the Endless , and look at how parts of previous canons (as well as implied past versions of reality) would influence aspects of the Omniverse in later iterations. I’ll also look at how concepts can grow and evolve even if the universe isn’t rebooted, becoming new and more things and beings as they adapt and grow with the universe.

Since I’ve already covered the big one in creation stories; that Lucifer and Perpetua are different aspects of the same being, I’ll start with how other aspects of the Fall from Heaven could have changed reality.

The first thing I noticed is that the origins of demons, and specifically when and how they originate tend to be inconsistent. Some versions of Creation show the first demons to all be fallen angels, but others make a distinction between demons who are fallen angels and demons who are Hellions, as in born that way. The story of the First fo the Fallen says the Second and Third of the Fallen are not Angels, just demons, and Lucifer fell Fourth. There are also origins that show demons as a full race of beings long before any angels fall, with no origin given.

Given that we know many reality retcons do not actually erase beings, but give them vastly different origins or powers, could the firs

In Ptolus there is no travel to other planes besides the astral plane and angels and demons make a one way trip if they come there. How does resurrection work in this context? Is there a canon explanation to how the dead can go to Heaven or Hell and be resurrected while the outsider inhabitants of those planes can’t return from the world? Basically I’m curious as to how souls cross planes from the world when they die. I’m probably greatly over thinking things here.

Cosmology connections...

So, I have a theory that the cosmological forces are inherently connected with the other and aren’t as separate as we might think. When I say this I specifically mean the antithetical force, so Light/Void, Order/Disorder, Life/Death.

We have evidence that Light beings, Naaru, can become void beings, Dark Naaru. We also see that beings of Order, Titans, can become beings of disorder, Sargeras.

Now we also have mortals who become demons, and mortals who become void infused. Which makes me think mortals are just a combination of all of the forces already rather than they are changing to an antithesis force. Originally titan constructs, corrupted by void, but what were they made of by the Titans? Earth? Elements?

The shadowlands in Ardenweld specifically seems to be linked to the dream. So if we assume the dream is life, and Ardenweld death, it would appear there’s a connection between life and death directly.

So I would not be shocked if we come to find out that each antithetical force is actually just a side of a coin and are actually two sides of the same overall force. That demons killed in the twisting nether are reborn in the arcane planes, or that Titans and arcane beings killed in the arcane planes are reborn in the twisting nether. Would possibly explain why Titans would imprison sargeras rather than kill him.
