Then his constituency calls for him to resign as a senator from Texas.
Well, I didn't expect that. In case you aren't familiar with my previous posts:
I've been dating my girlfriend (Eva, fake name) for almost 3 years now. She's the most beautiful and amazing (in every way) person ever. However, my mother doesn't see her quite the way I do.
The things my mother hates about her and constantly insulted her about are how she looks - a skin condition (vitiligo) affecting her entire body including face, foreign ancestry with Muslim family members and her cheeky and petty "no shit taken, no fucks given" character. Most insults were about vitiligo. Which for me of course is something beautiful.
I of course have always done my best to protect her from my mother's bullshit and will always do. It is one of the main reasons why I wanted to move out in the first place. I blocked her, we changed social media and numbers, and I never exactly hesitated to counter her hurtful crap using my own hurtful crap.
Well, a week ago, I was told by my father that my mother wants to talk to me and Eva about something important. I refused to start any kind of contract.
However, a few days later, both Eva and I were contacted by my mother, who after months made the effort to find our new social media accounts.
The content of her messages first shocked me, then I remembered that Eva told her during one argument something along "I really wish you went through what I did" (Eva basically suffered years ago because of the afore mentioned vitiligo), then I realised it: karma hit her hard.
In the messages, she said that she understands what Eva has gone through now that she has white patches around elbows, knees and hands... insert photos
I told Eva about it, who found out that my mother messaged her as well. At first she suggested that we send her screenshots of her previous hurtful messages.
It took 2 posts on reddit, few days of thinking and talking things through with Eva to figure out the best thing to do, all while my mother was constantly messaging us (which we ignored). We decided against sending the screenshots as it would be pointless drama mongering and my mother might use it against us (note: thank you reddit!)
So, what I wrote (earlier today) in return was:
,,I'm sorry that happened to you and that now you know what it is like, but to me it comes of like you apologise only because your insults turned against you and you realised how hurtful it is. This doesn't change anything, leave us alone!" I immediately blocked her

I always see people saying that 2008 can’t happen again because xyz is not like it was then.
The problem I see with that logic is that major financial crises rarely happen for the exact same reasons. You can compare apples to apples for what caused the 2008 housing market collapse, but in reality the cause of the next major recession in real estate will be very different.
Then, after that collapse’s recovery, you’ll have people in the future saying oh, 202* can’t happen again, xyz caused the decline in housing prices then, and that’s not what the data says now.
CDPR decided to make an open world RPG placed in a huge and supposedly alive futuristic city, and they made the player character a walking time bomb. There is no room to add interesting stuff like creating your own faction, exploring the world and chill etc. cuz the player would die like in few weeks. In TW3 Geralt was looking for Ciri, and in Fallout 4 the sole survivor had to find Shaun but even those games didn't make the player character this desperate.
Why can't the open world games today be like good old Skyrim where you are allowed to do pretty much anything from the start and not bound by certain plot conditions? The basic setting of this game started all wrong and I don't see the way how to save this game.
I do not want to throw shit that the gaming industry as many people have already blamed the gaming industry for many things - violence, or mental disorders and whatever (which is ironic because many studies have stated that video games are actually useful and beneficial for one's mental health ... if used well of course)
With the monetisation design of many video games of nowadays like
- the 60 dollars price, plus the add-ons and the DLC,
- the microtransactions (especially in free games that force players to pay instead of wait for a certain action to end
- the demand and/or design to make money off of skin and cosmetic (which I think is really bad that certain players went for this type of market like in CS:GO which made players create a market for this)
- casino-style of getting rewards that may or may not force players to use their own real money to get the rewards that they want
- the potential targeting of children or younger players that may be tempted to pay more to get what they desire like children who play free games that are mostly designed to force players to pay more to gain that desired rewards like the currency system of most games, or the cosmetics
- updates and tweaks that may change the skill curve which provokes players to work hard to earn the desired rewards, whether it is loot or a victory and so on
- add-on and content that are meant to make players come back for more to keep them hooked for months or maybe even years.
... and probably a lot more
I get that these design elements are meant to make players want to be invested in these games and that is fine. I think you need to make ways to want players to want to play certain games over others, like the aesthetic, the feel, or any other type of flair that quenches the tastes of a player.
And many games have these mechanics that I mentioned, possibly as a means to make players hooked (and like every other object that is meant to be pleasing and give a dose of dopamine, they are meant to be rewarding and almost any rewarding object or action can lead to an addiction if not used well), and knowing the gaming addiction is quite real and very dangerous, it is a very worrisome thing that the reason why gaming addiction exists is that video games nowadays are even more intentionally designed than before to make players hooked at an unhealthy level.
It is as though games are intentionally designed like that of slot machines in a casino, the expectation of a reward, the d... keep reading on reddit ➡
